00:00When the COVID-19 lockdowns ended, Samantha Nair found herself alone in her pay rack home.
00:07The rest of her family had moved on with their lives.
00:10But what began as a difficult period of loneliness soon evolved into a chapter of independence,
00:16as the former corporate secretary chose to move into Suka Senior Resort.
00:22Samantha said what stood out for her was the social interaction at the facility,
00:26which she described as peaceful and spacious.
00:30Suka Group chairman N. Raj Selvarajan said he started the initiative partly because many seniors were stuck at home
00:37without physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:41During the COVID especially, when we were all trapped between the 10-kilometer radius
00:47and families would not be able to meet and there was no physical interactions
00:51and there was a rise of dementia cases within the seniors in Malaysia due to that.
00:56So they think this is a better option and it's a more luxury option.
01:00It's not downsizing their lifestyle, it's actually upgrading, moving into a resort.
01:06It's something like a long-term vacation for them.
01:09Located in the heart of Pataling Jaya, the historic Shah Village Hotel has been given a new lease of life
01:15following its transformation into a senior living facility.
01:20With over 5,600 square meters of built-up space and 100 rooms,
01:26the facility has been in operation since March this year,
01:30offering flexible stays from just one day to long-term residencies.
