00:00when i first got hired um it was like another two or three years before i felt like i had my skills

00:36can learn from and you can say oh i like the way he someone does that in fact i like the way josh
00:41will draw like a mitten for a hand and just put some fingers on it and so i started doing that
00:46on some of my boards i'm like oh i'm stealing that it works so good there was a lot of things i wasn't
00:51good at when i started in feature i had to get better at drawing i had to learn screen direction
00:55i had to learn staging i had to learn composition one of the things i noticed for myself was it was
01:00too many things to try to do all at once it's like it's a lot when you're storyboarding because you're
01:05essentially directing it writing it you're acting it doing all the stuff you're doing everything and
01:11it was really overwhelming when i first started so one of the things i tried to do was every
01:16sequence i said okay this sequence i'm going to focus on poses and clear and clear silhouettes so
01:22when somebody taps through it they're not going to be confused about any of the poses the camera
01:27might be all over the place but the poses are going to be good you know and i would just focus
01:31on once not just one thing but i would pay more attention to one thing for a whole sequence get
01:37that under my belt move on to the next one now i'm not thinking about poses as much because i just did
01:42200 drawings you know where i did a bunch of poses and shape and you know silhouettes now in the next
01:47one i'm going to go okay this time i'm going to keep this character on the left and this character
01:51on the right the whole time all the cuts and just make sure and if it changes i'm going to show it
01:55now this one's on the left and i was good the next sequence i'm like i'm going to make sure nobody you
02:01know nobody gets confused okay great next time now i'm going to work on a camera move in this you know
02:05i'm going to find a way you know and so it's like slowly each time you do something just try to build on
02:10it because if you try to do everything all at once it's like it's going to break your brain
