00:00Hello there, you are watching One India, my name is Pankaj Mishra.
00:11As US President Donald Trump reignites his aggressive tariff war, this time targeting India and Brazil,
00:17a new counterforce is gathering strength and that force goes by the name BRICS.
00:23We bring you a story of shifting alliances, economic pressure and global resistance.
00:29India, Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa, five major emerging economies,
00:34are beginning to find common ground as Trump's trade tactics rattle their national interests.
00:40Just this week, Trump announced a 25% increase in tariffs on Indian goods, taking the total duty to 50%.
00:47His reason? India's continued purchase of discounted Russian oil.
00:51Brazil faced a similar blow.
00:53Trump's move to hike tariffs on Brazilian products, including aircraft and energy,
00:58was linked to what he called a witch hunt against former Brazilian President Bolsonaro.
01:04But these punitive tariffs may have unintentionally achieved what decades of diplomacy couldn't.
01:11A stronger, more aligned BRICS.
01:14India and Russia were quick to reaffirm their strategic partnership.
01:18National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met top Russian officials in Moscow and even President Putin at the Kremlin.
01:25Their message? Clear and defiant.
01:28We are committed to building a more just, sustainable world order.
01:33It was told by Russia's Sergey Shogu.
01:37At the same time, Brazil and India are talking trade strategy.
01:41President Lula called Prime Minister Modi just days after the tariffs spike, proposing that BRICS take up this challenge collectively.
01:50The two leaders agreed to push bilateral trade beyond $20 billion by 2030.
01:56But the real surprise came from China.
01:59Yes, China, a country that shares a complex, often tense relationship with India, backed New Delhi.
02:06Chinese Ambassador Xu Fehong didn't mince words, calling the United States a bully.
02:12He warned that Trump's tariff-first approach threatens the foundations of global trade itself.
02:19And this wasn't just rhetoric.
02:21China's foreign minister echoed similar support for Brazil as well.
02:25Donald Trump, on his part, has never hidden his disdain for multilateral platforms.
02:30In his first term and now again, BRICS is seen by his administration as a club of dissenters.
02:37Countries challenging the dominance of United States-led institutions.
02:42But now, by targeting several BRICS economies simultaneously, Trump may be accelerating their realignment.
02:49Bringing them closer, not as a formal bloc, but as a coalition of willing against trade coercion.
02:57What's emerging is not just symbolic cooperation.
03:01India is weighing a pivot towards China for diplomatic leverage.
03:04Brazil is readying to push back within BRICS.
03:07Russia and India are discussing defense deals, energy routes and tech sharing.
03:12And China is playing the role of a global stabilizer for now.
03:17Together, these nations represent over 40% of the world's population
03:22and nearly a quarter of the global GDP.
03:25That is not a club to ignore.
03:28So, what does this mean for the rest of the world?
03:32We may be witnessing the slow rise of a multipolar global order
03:36where no single nation, however powerful, can dictate terms through economic punishment.
03:42BRICS, born as a financial electronics,
03:44is today evolving into a platform for resistance, resilience and realignment.
03:49Trump may have triggered a trade war, but what he has also triggered is a strategic awakening.
