00:00You live with the awareness that anything can happen in this world.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:06And today, we'll be looking at 50 of the darkest moments in the history of television.
00:12We will not be including live disasters like 9-11 or the Challenger explosion.
00:17Robert Crane says when he was a teenager, his father admitted he had a secret life.
00:24Christine Chubbick.
00:25TV 30 presents what is believed to be a television first.
00:32A television news reporter from Florida, Christine Chubbick worked for Sarasota's WXLT-TV,
00:39focusing mainly on her weekly segment, Suncoast Digest.
00:43While a strong worker, Chubbick was not popular and reportedly struggled with depression,
00:49loneliness, and intense feelings of isolation.
00:52It all led to the tragic events of July 15th, 1974.
00:57Chubbick was airing a segment of Suncoast Digest when she suddenly declared that she would be
01:02dying on live television.
01:04She then produced a gun from behind the desk and did just that.
01:09Chubbick became the first person to take their own life on live TV,
01:13and the footage has become one of the most mythical pieces of lost media.
01:17I'm okay, you're okay.
01:21Repeat it, say it, say it, say it.
01:24Anna Shannon.
01:25Your mother was working outside the home.
01:27Yes, she worked night shifts.
01:28And he was home at that time.
01:30Yes.
01:31Take me through the moment, the first time that you have a recollection that
01:35something here is, this isn't right, I'm uncomfortable.
01:38Here comes Honey Boo Boo was the laughing stock of television in the early 2010s,
01:44but it was hiding an unbelievably dark and twisted secret.
01:48Anna Shannon, nicknamed Chickadee, was the eldest Shannon girl, born when matriarch June was just 15 years old.
01:56Unfortunately, Anna had a tragic childhood, as she was repeatedly assaulted by June's then-boyfriend,
02:02Mark McDaniel.
02:03After some time apart, June allegedly began dating McDaniel again in 2014,
02:09despite his sordid history with her eldest daughter.
02:13And if that wasn't bad enough, June also stole thousands of dollars out of Anna's trust fund,
02:18leaving her virtually penniless.
02:21But the tragedy doesn't stop there, as Anna was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2023,
02:27and died later that year, aged just 29.
02:31Cardwell is survived by her mother, sisters, partner, and two daughters, Caitlin and Kylie.
02:37Anna Marie, Chickadee Cardwell, was 29 years old.
02:41Danny Masterson.
02:42Masterson, learning his fate just moments ago here at LA Superior Court.
02:49It's pretty hard going back to that 70s show knowing what we do now.
02:53Hyde was one of the show's breakout characters,
02:56played to laid-back, stonerific perfection by a young Danny Masterson.
03:00But it was also around this time that Masterson began assaulting multiple women,
03:05all of whom, like Masterson, were Scientologists.
03:09The LAPD began investigating Masterson in 2017,
03:13after several women came forward with allegations of sexual assault,
03:17the long delay attributed to continued interference from the Church of Scientology.
03:22In May 2023, Masterson was convicted on two counts,
03:27and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison.
03:30The Church has said the testimony and descriptions of Scientology beliefs during the Masterson trial
03:35were, quote, uniformly false.
03:37Masterson did not testify at his own trial.
03:40His lawyers also called no witnesses.
03:42The defense had argued all along that these acts were consensual.
03:47The Chris Benoit memorial.
03:49For what anybody wants to say,
03:51if he had any problems, he could have taken care of them in those times.
03:55He could have asked for help.
03:56If he chooses not to ask, there's nobody else can help him.
03:59The WWE committed the blunder of a lifetime
04:02when they accidentally aired a touching memorial for a wife and child killer.
04:06On June 25, 2007, it was announced that popular wrestler Chris Benoit,
04:13his wife Nancy, and their son Daniel had all died, seemingly under mysterious circumstances.
04:19The WWE then canceled Monday Night Raw and aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit.
04:26But that very night, details began to emerge that something more sinister had occurred,
04:31and police soon announced that Benoit had murdered both his wife and child before taking his own life.
04:37The WWE was deeply embarrassed and publicly denounced his actions
04:41before scrubbing all mentions of Benoit from the organization.
04:44You know, the sheriff's office is saying that the instruments of death were located inside the house,
04:49and the DA has said that once the details come out, it'll prove to be very bizarre.
04:55Those were his words.
04:56The Stephen Collins revelations.
04:58Bombshell confession straight from the headlines.
05:00That famous TV dad after Stephen Collins coming forward for the first time.
05:05Why now?
05:05One of the WB's most successful shows, and its longest running,
05:097th Heaven was a part-religious, part-family drama about Protestant minister Eric Camden and his seven children.
05:17Eric was played by Stephen Collins and was quite the popular character,
05:21renowned as an idealized father figure with a strong emphasis on things like ethics, religion, and compassion.
05:27But in 2014, news broke that Collins had engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with three underage girls,
05:35with the scandalous events dating back decades.
05:38No criminal charges were filed,
05:41but the stark contrast between Collins' real-life actions and the values he preached on screen
05:46made the revelations especially jarring,
05:49and his career came to a screeching halt overnight.
05:53The first incident was in 1973.
05:56You were 25 years old.
05:58How old was the victim?
06:00Red Fox dies on set.
06:02And I suppose now you're going to tell me that you're not superstitious.
06:05I'm not.
06:06That's something you made up in your mind.
06:07I'm not superstitious.
06:09Oh, no!
06:11Real name John Sanford,
06:14Red Fox was a successful stand-up comedian
06:16before landing the role of Fred Sanford on the seminal NBC comedy Sanford and Son.
06:22By 1991, Sanford and Son was long over,
06:26and Fox was in his late 60s starring in a short-lived sitcom called The Royal Family.
06:32On October 11th, Fox was rehearsing a scene when he suddenly collapsed on set.
06:37Unfortunately, no one reacted at first.
06:39Ironically, the character of Fred Sanford was known for faking heart attacks,
06:44so his co-workers believed that Fox was just doing an old bit.
06:48Unfortunately, the heart attack was very real,
06:50and Fox was pronounced dead just a few hours later.
06:54Oh!
06:56I think I'm having a heart attack.
07:00You hear that, Elizabeth?
07:02I'm coming to join you, honey.
07:03In your neighborhood, say,
07:09Who are the people in your neighborhood?
07:12The people that you meet each day.
07:16Actor Northern Calloway had a great job,
07:19appearing in over 1,200 episodes of Sesame Street.
07:23He played David Robinson,
07:25one of the few human characters on the show,
07:27for nearly 20 years between 1971 and 1989.
07:31However, intense trouble appeared in 1980,
07:35when Calloway experienced a troubling episode.
07:38On September 19th, he severely beat a woman,
07:41vandalized numerous properties,
07:43and was witnessed pouring herbicide on himself.
07:46Co-workers also noticed a drastic change in Calloway's personality,
07:51including increased agitation and erratic behavior,
07:54and began distancing themselves from him.
07:57He was eventually fired from the show
07:59after biting a music coordinator,
08:01and was placed in a mental institution,
08:03where he died of exhaustive psychosis at the age of 41.
08:07They're the people that you meet
08:09when you're walking down the street.
08:11They're the people that you meet each day.
08:19Matthew Perry.
08:20This week, federal investigators arrested five people
08:23in connection with Perry's death.
08:25Two doctors, a live-in personal assistant,
08:27an acquaintance, and a drug dealer known as the Ketamine Queen,
08:31who provided Perry with the drug after doctors limited his treatment.
08:34Watching Friends can be difficult,
08:37knowing what we do now about the personal struggles of Matthew Perry.
08:41Perry struggled with substance use disorder throughout much of his life,
08:45but his problems got quite severe in the late 90s and early 2000s,
08:50with recurring stints in rehab and severe drug and alcohol intake.
08:55His problems are manifested throughout Friends,
08:59as Perry's weight fluctuates wildly between seasons,
09:02and he often has a puffy or sunken face,
09:05both of which are indicative of his disorder.
09:09Perry himself claimed that there were entire years of working on Friends
09:12that he could not remember.
09:14Unfortunately, he struggled to the very end of his life,
09:18and he drowned after using Ketamine in 2023.
09:21So should Ketamine be demonized?
09:23It's a good question.
09:24I think my take-home for patients, really,
09:26is that if you are using Ketamine,
09:28you want to make sure that you're using it
09:29in a strictly supervised medical professional setting.
09:32Michael J. Fox hides his Parkinson's.
09:34The most paranoid fantasy I could think of
09:36would not have prepared me for the two words
09:38the neurologist bludgeoned me with that day.
09:44Parkinson's disease.
09:45The legendary Michael J. Fox
09:46had the very unfortunate distinction
09:48of being diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991,
09:52when he was just 29 years old.
09:54However, he didn't publicly reveal his diagnosis until 1998,
09:59when he was starring in the ABC sitcom Spin City.
10:03In his documentary Still,
10:05Fox revealed that he used various tricks on set
10:07to mask his symptoms,
10:09like leaning against desks and doors,
10:12continuously holding props,
10:14or putting his hands in his pockets.
10:16At the time, viewers thought this was just
10:18the fidgety nature of the character.
10:20But now that we know the truth and can spot the signs,
10:23the situation becomes a whole lot more depressing.
10:27Fred, Joe, pleasure to see you guys, as always.
10:31You know, I was just thinking.
10:35And still, no one outside of my family knew.
10:39The Different Strokes Curse.
10:40Last time we told you about the new Gary Coleman documentary,
10:43the questions if foul play was involved
10:46in his sudden death at age 42.
10:48But he wasn't the only Different Strokes star to die young.
10:51The dangers of early fame,
10:53the lack of support for child stars,
10:55and the predatory aspects of the entertainment industry,
10:59all combined to develop the so-called Different Strokes curse.
11:03Different Strokes was an extremely popular sitcom
11:05in the 70s and 80s,
11:07but its stars suffered incredible problems
11:09in their personal lives.
11:11Gary Coleman later fought financial instability
11:13and multiple legal disputes
11:15before dying from a brain hemorrhage at 42.
11:18Dana Plato also suffered from severe substance use disorder
11:23and legal issues,
11:24and she overdosed at just 34.
11:28Additionally, Todd Bridges took multiple illegal substances
11:32before he was arrested for shooting a drug dealer in 1989.
11:36Luckily, he was acquitted of the crime
11:38and later became clean,
11:40successfully escaping the curse.
11:42You're talking to us?
11:45Of course.
11:45How about that, Willis?
11:47Downtown two minutes and already we're gentlemen.
11:51Rick Medina commits murderer.
11:53Medina spent three days in jail
11:54after police say he used a sword
11:57to stab his roommate Joshua Sutter
11:59in their suburban L.A. home.
12:012000s kids may remember Rick Medina
12:03as the Red Lion Ranger
12:05from Power Rangers Wild Force.
12:07He appeared in all 40 episodes of the show
12:09before returning to the franchise 10 years later
12:12to play Decker in Power Rangers Samurai.
12:15On February 1st, 2015,
12:18shortly after Samurai had concluded,
12:20Medina killed his roommate Joshua Sutter
12:23with a medieval sword
12:24inside their California apartment.
12:27According to Medina,
12:28he killed Sutter in self-defense
12:30in the middle of an intense argument.
12:32Medina was arrested and faced life in prison,
12:35but he pled guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter
12:38and was given six years in prison.
12:41He has since been released.
12:43A Hollywood actor has been sentenced now
12:45for attacking his roommate with a sword
12:47and killing him.
12:48A judge in Lancaster sentenced this man,
12:51Ricardo Medina, to six years in prison.
12:53The murder of Judith Barsi.
12:55Kids, this is Mr. Sam Malone.
12:58Hi.
12:58Hi.
13:00While she's known for providing the voice of Ducky
13:03in The Land Before Time,
13:05Judith Barsi spent most of her life on television,
13:08playing many bit roles throughout the 1980s.
13:11She appeared in the likes of Cheers and Growing Pains,
13:14but during this time,
13:16she was suffering horrific abuse from her father, Joseph.
13:19He reportedly had a dependence on alcohol
13:22and repeatedly threatened to murder Barsi,
13:25all while subjecting her to physical violence.
13:28Barsi eventually exhibited symptoms of severe stress,
13:31like pulling out her own eyelashes
13:33and suffering mental breakdowns.
13:35Unfortunately, the tragedy culminated on July 25th, 1988,
13:40when Joseph killed both his wife and child
13:43before taking his own life.
13:45Aw, come on, Mikey.
13:46You're gonna love your first day at school.
13:49I wish I was old enough to go to school.
13:51Shut up, Caro.
13:52No, yes, no!
13:54Seth Caro's Breakdown.
13:56I'm not sure what's going on with Seth.
13:59And then I realized that Seth was crying
14:02because he didn't put his ice cream on the plate.
14:05Top Chef Just Desserts was a short-lived spinoff
14:08of the main series.
14:10And one of the contestants was Seth Caro,
14:12who collapsed under the stress of the competition.
14:15Caro suffered numerous on-air meltdowns,
14:18often doubling over in tears,
14:21shaking, and angrily knocking food to the ground.
14:23At one point, he even cried and said,
14:27the Red Hots are for my mommy,
14:29which was widely mocked on the internet
14:31and late-night television.
14:33Caro's behavior grew so concerning
14:35that he was eventually removed from the competition
14:38and placed in involuntary psychiatric admission.
14:42Caro has since claimed that the experience,
14:44quote, destroyed his life,
14:46as he couldn't find culinary work
14:48and even considered changing his name
14:50to avoid association with the show.
14:52I am like the Red Hots are for my body.
14:57Paula Goodspeed on American Idol.
15:00Inside, we were hoping some talent would shine through.
15:03I'm Paula Goodspeed,
15:04and I'm from Los Angeles, California,
15:06and I'm a student.
15:08Oh yeah, definitely.
15:09I really think I'm a pop star.
15:11Back in 2005,
15:12a woman named Paula Goodspeed
15:14auditioned for American Idol,
15:16and this was largely played for comedic effect on TV.
15:19However, the reality was anything but comedic.
15:23Goodspeed was actually a stalker of Judge Paula Abdul's,
15:27even legally changing her name to Paula
15:29to be more like her idol.
15:31Abdul was aware of Goodspeed,
15:33and she allegedly begged the producers
15:35not to let her audition.
15:38The producers, in turn, have denied this,
15:40claiming that they had no knowledge of Goodspeed
15:42being a legitimate stalker.
15:44On November 11th, 2008,
15:47just three years after her audition,
15:49Goodspeed took her own life
15:51outside Abdul's Sherman Oaks home,
15:53her body surrounded by photos of the singer.
15:56I'm like a really big fan,
15:58and I make life-size drawings of Paula.
16:00I've been drawing ever since I was a little kid,
16:02and my first drawing was of Paula Abdul.
16:05The death of Gérald Babin and his physician.
16:0838-year-old Thierry Costa killed himself in Cambodia
16:12where the French version of the show Survivor
16:14was being recorded.
16:15It was halted last week after contestant Gérald Babin
16:18suffered a heart attack and died.
16:20On March 22nd, 2013,
16:23the French version of Survivor,
16:25titled Koh Lanta,
16:26was filming on the Cambodian island of Koh Rong.
16:30One of the contestants was 25-year-old Gérald Babin.
16:33During the very first day of filming,
16:35the contestants were partaking in a vigorous tug-of-war challenge
16:39when Babin began experiencing severe cramps.
16:42He received medical attention on site
16:44and was airlifted to a local hospital,
16:47but he suffered cardiac arrest during the flight
16:49and passed away shortly after.
16:52Cambodian authorities ruled
16:53that he had died of a heart attack.
16:56Less than two weeks later,
16:57the show's physician, Dr. Thierry Costa,
17:01took his own life in Cambodia,
17:03citing unfair media coverage
17:04and a public smearing of his name.
17:07Thierry Costa said his name
17:08had been tarnished in the media.
17:10A producer of the program said
17:11he and others were angry over anonymous witnesses,
17:14angry over untrue allegations,
17:16and angry against those who spread these stories
17:19without checking if they were true.
17:21Tetoshi Yanagira's on-air accident.
17:24Working for TV Miyazaki,
17:26Tetoshi Yanagira was a Japanese presenter
17:29who, in June of 2008,
17:31was covering a quirky local game
17:33which saw participants pushing each other
17:35off a platform into a rice paddy.
17:37Although he hadn't planned to participate,
17:40Yanagira agreed to try the game,
17:42only to fall headfirst into the flooded field.
17:45While he lay prone and motionless,
17:48those around Yanagira treated it like a joke,
17:50believing that he was simply laying still
17:52for comedic effect.
17:54But that wasn't the case.
17:55Yanagira had actually broken his neck in the fall
17:59and he was conscious but unable to move
18:01as he lay face first in the mud.
18:04Luckily, they quickly realized
18:05that something was seriously wrong
18:07and Yanagira was airlifted to the hospital.
18:11David Angel dies in 9-11.
18:13Finally, Niles.
18:15Stop babbling.
18:16Listen, Niles, you'll have to speak up.
18:17I can't hear you with that baby
18:18screaming in the background.
18:21Oh my God!
18:22An esteemed television writer and producer,
18:25David Angel wrote for Cheers
18:27before co-creating the sitcoms Wings and Frasier.
18:30The latter was a spinoff of Cheers
18:32and was enormously successful,
18:35running for 11 seasons
18:36and winning a total of 37 Emmy Awards.
18:39On September 11th,
18:41Angel and his wife Lynn
18:42boarded American Airlines Flight 11
18:44to return home from a vacation in Cape Cod.
18:48But at 8.46 a.m.,
18:50the airplane hit the North Tower
18:52of the World Trade Center
18:53beginning the events of 9-11.
18:55The Angels were two of the 76 innocent passengers
18:59on that fateful flight
19:00and their names are now engraved
19:02on the North Pole of the 9-11 memorial.
19:04Hey, David.
19:07Remember me?
19:08I'm your grandpa.
19:09The Discovery Channel helicopter crash.
19:12He survived two tours of duty in Iraq,
19:15but a local veteran died
19:17in a tragic helicopter crash
19:19while shooting a reality TV show
19:21out in California.
19:22The Discovery Channel
19:23was shooting a military-themed reality show
19:26on Pulsarosa Ranch
19:28near Acton, California
19:29on February 10th, 2013.
19:32A helicopter was tasked
19:33with capturing a low-altitude shot
19:35that was intended to capture
19:37a cast member dropping a backpack,
19:39but it tragically struck a valley wall
19:41and exploded,
19:42claiming all three lives on board.
19:45The NTSB investigated
19:46and determined the primary cause
19:48to be pilot error,
19:50with David Gibbs continuing to fly
19:52despite poor visibility
19:53caused by internal lighting
19:55and the rugged terrain.
19:56The accident was one of the deadliest
19:58on-set incidents in California
20:00since the infamous
20:02Twilight Zone tragedy of 1982,
20:05reigniting debates over safety standards
20:07on film and television productions.
20:09Now, the FAA is investigating.
20:11They have not said
20:12what caused this crash.
20:13The Discovery Channel
20:14released a statement
20:15saying they are cooperating
20:17fully with authorities.
20:18Their thoughts and prayers
20:19go out to the families.
20:21Michael was 45 years old.
20:22To Catch a Predator
20:23comes to a shocking end.
20:26You could pretty much clearly assume
20:29that he didn't want to face
20:30the music on that
20:30and chose to take his own mind.
20:32To Catch a Predator
20:33was a short-lived
20:34and controversial show
20:35in which host Chris Hansen
20:37would trap and confront
20:39sex predators
20:39in a sting operation,
20:41leading to their arrest.
20:43The series earned
20:44a mixed reception,
20:45with many praising its intentions
20:47but criticizing the delivery,
20:49with some arguing
20:50it constituted entrapment.
20:52These controversies
20:53came to a head in 2006.
20:56The target was
20:56Assistant District Attorney
20:58Bill Conrad,
20:59who was fooled
21:00into exchanging pictures
21:01with a volunteer
21:02posing as a teenage boy.
21:04Just as a filming crew
21:06and police entered his home
21:07to serve a search warrant,
21:09Conrad took his own life.
21:11NBC was sued
21:12by the Conrad family
21:13and the show
21:14was soon taken off the air.
21:16How did you feel
21:16when you found out
21:17that he died?
21:18It was, you know,
21:20a difficult moment
21:22for everybody involved.
21:23You don't want to see
21:23somebody do that.
21:24I don't feel responsible for it.
21:26I sleep well at night
21:27and did after the fact.
21:29We completely reported
21:31on it the next morning.
21:32The Shusha Park Fire
21:34She warms up
21:35the family audience
21:36with her hit songs.
21:39But this week's episode
21:40gets a little too hot
21:42for TV.
21:43It was January 6th, 2001
21:45and 300 people
21:47were crowding
21:48a sound stage
21:49to watch a live taping
21:50of the Brazilian
21:51kids show
21:52Shusha Park.
21:53Shortly before
21:54the show ended,
21:55a small fire began
21:56in the Prop's
21:57spaceship on stage.
21:59A stagehand
21:59attempted to quell
22:00the flame
22:01with a fire extinguisher,
22:02but it quickly spread
22:03out of control
22:04and engulfed
22:05the entire stage.
22:07People ran
22:07for the exits
22:08as the fire spread
22:09and consumed
22:10the sound stage,
22:12but the cameras
22:12continued to roll,
22:14capturing the
22:14nightmarish scenario
22:15for all to see.
22:17Miraculously,
22:18no one died
22:19in the fire,
22:20but 26 people
22:21were injured,
22:22a number of them
22:23seriously.
22:24The network,
22:25Ready Globo,
22:27funded their medical
22:27expenses
22:28and all made
22:29a full recovery.
22:31And extinguishers
22:32are no use.
22:35The inferno
22:36spreads
22:36and the workers
22:37scramble
22:38to get everyone
22:38out safely.
22:42Jeanette McCurdy.
22:44In 2022,
22:45former child star
22:46Jeanette McCurdy
22:47of iCarly
22:48and Salmon Cat fame
22:49released a memoir
22:50with the somewhat
22:51blunt title
22:52of I'm Glad
22:53My Mom Died.
22:54Stardom was never
22:55your dream.
22:56Whose dream was it?
22:57My mom's.
22:57I think she
22:58wanted me to have
23:01a better life
23:02than she had,
23:03but I also think
23:04her approach
23:05was very unhealthy
23:06and informed
23:07by her own
23:08lack of self-work.
23:10And she lived
23:12vicariously
23:13through me.
23:14It's a dark statement,
23:15but the book
23:16is exceptionally
23:16well-written.
23:18This account details
23:19what being part
23:20of the TV industry
23:21at a young age
23:22was like
23:22after being pushed
23:23into it
23:24by her abusive
23:24and controlling mother.
23:26The retired actor
23:27reveals the lengths
23:28her mother would go
23:29to control her life
23:30down to what
23:31she was allowed
23:32to eat.
23:32I think my mom
23:33wanted to keep me
23:35as controllable
23:37as possible.
23:38I think she really
23:39wanted to have
23:40her influence on me
23:41and me growing up
23:43was a threat to that.
23:44She also alludes
23:45to an unnamed creator
23:46who made her time
23:47in the industry
23:48miserable,
23:49including being
23:50pressured to drink
23:51and being photographed
23:52in a bikini,
23:53both while underage.
23:55The Duggar family.
23:5719 kids and counting.
23:59A reality show
24:00that had the number
24:00of kids in its title
24:01increased twice
24:02while it was on the air
24:03came to a halt
24:04in 2015
24:05when a 2006 police report
24:08was made public.
24:09We went through
24:10one of the most
24:10darkest times
24:11that our family
24:11has ever gone through.
24:12The report concerned
24:14the Duggar's eldest son,
24:15Josh Duggar,
24:16who the report stated
24:17inappropriately touched
24:19five girls,
24:20including four of his sisters,
24:22on multiple occasions
24:23as a teenager.
24:24Six years after the show ended,
24:26he was arrested
24:27and subsequently convicted
24:28after being found
24:29to be in possession
24:30of explicit material
24:32featuring minors.
24:33Regardless of their status
24:35in society,
24:36regardless of their wealth,
24:38regardless of their fame,
24:39this case shows
24:40that no person
24:41is above the law.
24:42The downfall of Ellen DeGeneres.
24:44For years,
24:46groundbreaking comedian
24:47Ellen DeGeneres
24:48was a beloved
24:48talk show host
24:49and gay icon.
24:51There had been whispers
24:52about DeGeneres,
24:53but they were mostly hushed
24:55until more people
24:56began to question her
24:57in the late 2010s.
24:58This summer,
24:59there were allegations
24:59of a toxic work environment
25:01at our show.
25:02And then there was
25:03an investigation.
25:04I learned that things
25:05happened here
25:06that never should have happened.
25:07I take that very seriously
25:09and I want to say
25:09I am so sorry
25:10to the people
25:11who were affected.
25:12In 2019,
25:13she faced criticism
25:14for being friends
25:15with former American
25:16President George W. Bush
25:18and giving a cushy interview
25:19to fellow comedian
25:20Kevin Hart
25:21while he faced controversy.
25:23And of course,
25:24who could forget
25:24the awkward
25:25but iconic
25:26Dakota Johnson interview?
25:28DeGeneres claimed
25:29she wasn't invited
25:30to Johnson's birthday party,
25:31but the actor
25:32called her out.
25:33This time you invited me?
25:34Yeah.
25:35Are you sure?
25:36Yeah.
25:36How do you know?
25:37I don't think so.
25:38Ask everybody.
25:42Ask Jonathan,
25:43your producer.
25:44Who said you were?
25:45I was invited?
25:46Why didn't I go?
25:47I don't know.
25:48By far,
25:49her biggest controversy
25:50came when investigations
25:51unveiled an alleged
25:52toxic work environment
25:54on her show,
25:55including racism,
25:57sexual misconduct,
25:58and an air of intimidation
26:00and fear.
26:01Philip Schofield scandal.
26:03British daytime TV anchor
26:05Philip Schofield
26:06stepped down
26:07from hosting duties
26:08on his popular
26:09morning show
26:09this morning
26:10after admitting
26:11to an affair
26:12with a young co-worker.
26:13And then,
26:15in my dressing room
26:16one day,
26:18something happened.
26:21The matter got
26:22so much attention
26:23in the British media
26:23that it was even
26:24discussed in Parliament.
26:26It was the second
26:27media blitz
26:28for Schofield
26:28within the decade
26:29after he had
26:30shocked viewers
26:31by announcing
26:32that he is a gay man
26:33after 27 years
26:34of marriage
26:35and two daughters
26:36with his wife.
26:37After reports
26:38of tension
26:38between Schofield
26:39and his co-host
26:40Holly Willoughby
26:41that coincided
26:42with a drop in ratings,
26:43he initially resigned
26:44with no mention
26:45of an inappropriate
26:46relationship.
26:48But he soon released
26:48another statement
26:49describing what he called
26:51a, quote,
26:52unwise
26:52but not illegal
26:53relationship.
26:54Why is all this
26:55coming out now,
26:56Philip?
26:56What was the catalyst?
26:57What changed?
26:58It got too big.
26:59The lie got too big
27:01for both of us.
27:02It just got enormous.
27:04Drake Bell
27:04As a teenager,
27:06Drake Bell
27:06delighted audiences
27:08on Nickelodeon classics
27:09like The Amanda Show
27:10and Drake and Josh.
27:12Yeah, man!
27:13Awesome!
27:13In the 2024 documentary
27:15Quiet on Set,
27:16Bell shared an experience
27:18that severely darkened
27:19his days as a child star.
27:21The actor said
27:21dialogue coach
27:22Brian Peck
27:23sexually assaulted him
27:24on multiple occasions
27:25during his years
27:26at Nickelodeon.
27:27Years later,
27:28at the age of 31,
27:30Bell himself was found
27:31to have exchanged
27:32inappropriate social media
27:34messages with a minor.
27:35I accept this plea
27:36because my conduct
27:37was wrong.
27:40I'm sorry
27:41that the victim
27:41was harmed in any way
27:42but that was obviously
27:43not my intention.
27:44The silver lining
27:45in all of this
27:46is that following
27:47his interview
27:47for the documentary,
27:49he was able
27:49to check himself
27:50into rehab.
27:52Justin Roiland
27:53As far as anyone
27:54knew at the time,
27:552020 was a normal-ish time
27:57within Rick and Morty,
27:58for better or worse.
28:00Dad,
28:00there's a way
28:01we do this now.
28:03Morty,
28:04would you please
28:06accompany me
28:06to Forbojilan Prime
28:08for Death Crystals?
28:09Well,
28:10thank you for asking.
28:11Yes,
28:12I will do that.
28:13Three years later,
28:14it would finally
28:14be made public
28:15that in that same year,
28:17the show's co-creator,
28:18Justin Roiland,
28:19was charged
28:20with domestic battery
28:21and false imprisonment.
28:23When this broke,
28:24a cavalcade of abuse
28:25allegations
28:26against Roiland
28:27were made,
28:28including some
28:28involving minors.
28:30Also revealed
28:31in 2023
28:32was a sexual harassment
28:33claim from a female
28:35Rick and Morty writer
28:36that had been investigated
28:37by Adult Swim
28:38in 2020.
28:39While he was not
28:40let go by the network then,
28:42it was a no-brainer
28:43for them to part ways
28:44with him amid this fiasco,
28:45even though he also
28:46voiced Rick and Morty's
28:48titular duo.
28:49Betrayal!
28:50Betrayal on all sides!
28:51Don't overreact, Morty.
28:52The firing of Roseanne Barr.
28:54Roseanne's history
28:55with these sort of remarks
28:56in regards to African Americans
28:58had already been documented,
29:00and yet,
29:00you know,
29:01the network decided
29:02to reboot her show anyway.
29:04Barr was the creator
29:05and star of Roseanne,
29:07which was one of the most
29:08popular sitcoms
29:09of the late 80s
29:10and 90s.
29:12It was so popular,
29:13in fact,
29:13that it was brought back
29:14for a very brief revival
29:16in 2018.
29:17We say brief
29:18because the show
29:19lasted just two months
29:21before Barr was fired.
29:22On May 29th,
29:24Barr made a racist comment
29:25about Valerie Jarrett
29:26on Twitter,
29:27who had just finished
29:28her role
29:29as senior advisor
29:30to the president.
29:31The tweet garnered
29:32immediate controversy,
29:34and ABC cancelled Roseanne
29:35that very same day.
29:37Huge in the ratings,
29:38making a lot of money
29:39for ABC,
29:40for them to so swiftly
29:42cancel this show.
29:43They're going to take a hit.
29:45Owen Hart.
29:46In one of the darkest moments
29:47in television
29:48and professional wrestling,
29:50tragedy struck
29:50during the World Wrestling
29:52Federation's
29:52Over the Edge
29:53pay-per-view event
29:54in 1999.
29:55Last night
29:56in Kansas City, Missouri,
29:57with more than
29:5818,000 people in the arena
30:00and a large
30:01worldwide pay-per-view audience,
30:03Hart was getting ready
30:04to make a spectacular entrance,
30:06similar to one
30:07he'd made before.
30:08While participating
30:09in the event,
30:10wrestler Owen Hart
30:11was meant to be lowered
30:12into the ring for a planned match
30:13against The Godfather.
30:15However,
30:16following an accidental release
30:17from his safety harness,
30:19Hart fell 78 feet
30:21during the stunt
30:21to his death.
30:22While the incident itself
30:24was not televised,
30:25announcer Jim Ross
30:26informed the audience
30:28of what had happened,
30:29having to make clear
30:30that this was in no way
30:31part of the show.
30:32Shocked ring announcers
30:33tried to tell the home audience
30:35what they were seeing
30:35was no act.
30:36The murder of Rebecca Schaefer
30:48On the CBS sitcom
30:49My Sister Sam,
30:51Rebecca Schaefer
30:51was a fan favorite.
30:53Brandon asked you out
30:54on a date?
30:56Yeah.
30:56Sam, that's hysterical.
30:59It is?
31:00I mean, I can't believe
31:01you actually thought
31:02he asked you out.
31:02While the show only lasted
31:03a couple of seasons,
31:05Schaefer was still due
31:06to make a big break
31:07with roles in movies
31:08like Scenes from
31:09The Class Struggle
31:10and Beverly Hills.
31:11In the summer of 1989,
31:13she was awaiting
31:14her biggest opportunity yet
31:16with an audition
31:17later that day
31:17for the role of Mary,
31:19Michael Corleone's daughter
31:20in The Godfather Part 3.
31:22When she answered the door
31:23expecting a script,
31:24she was shot dead
31:25by an obsessed stalker.
31:27Mr. Bardo stated,
31:28I forgot to give you something.
31:30Withdrew a handgun
31:31from his waistband
31:32and shot her once in the chest.
31:33Something good came
31:34from the tragedy at least.
31:35as it set in motion
31:37the first laws in California
31:38that criminalized stalking.
31:41The Jenny Jones Show murder.
31:43In a 1996 episode
31:44of the daytime talk program
31:46The Jenny Jones Show,
31:48Scott Amador,
31:49an out and proud gay man,
31:50admitted to a forbidden crush
31:52on Jonathan Schmitz,
31:54his straight friend.
31:55Did you think Donna
31:56had the crush on you?
31:58Did I?
31:58No, we're good friends.
31:59Well, guess what?
32:00It's Scott that has the crush on you.
32:01You lied to me.
32:03On camera,
32:04Schmitz is shocked
32:04but appears to laugh anyway.
32:07When he wasn't on TV,
32:08he didn't think
32:09there was anything funny
32:10about the confession,
32:11shooting his so-called
32:12best friend to death
32:13just three days
32:14after it was filmed.
32:16In court,
32:17Schmitz would go on
32:17to unsuccessfully utilize
32:19the gay panic defense,
32:21ultimately being convicted
32:22of second-degree murder.
32:24Members of the jury,
32:25have you reached your verdict?
32:26If so,
32:26let your foreperson please rise.
32:29Our verdict
32:30as to the charge
32:32of first-degree premeditated murder
32:33is guilty
32:35of the lesser offense
32:36of second-degree murder.
32:37The abuse of David Yost.
32:39Right there, Tom!
32:4390s kids have fond memories
32:45of Power Rangers,
32:46but making the show
32:47was not as fun
32:49as watching it.
32:50At least not for
32:51Blue Ranger David Yost.
32:53A gay man,
32:54Yost was reportedly harassed
32:56by producers
32:57and crew members
32:58for his sexual orientation.
33:00The harassment got so bad
33:01that Yost harbored thoughts
33:03of self-harm
33:04and eventually
33:05quit the show altogether.
33:07After leaving the program,
33:09Yost attempted to alter
33:10his sexuality
33:11through conversion therapy
33:12and later suffered
33:14a nervous breakdown.
33:15After spending some time
33:16in a psychiatric institution,
33:18Yost accepted his sexuality
33:20and has since returned
33:21to the Power Rangers
33:22community.
33:24She's a kid.
33:25She's a kid, Billy.
33:26She doesn't need to know
33:27that we're Power Rangers.
33:28She needs to know
33:29that Rita Repulsa
33:30killed her mom.
33:31The franchise has also
33:32not been kind
33:33to Allison McInnes,
33:35the pink Lightspeed Ranger
33:36who broke her leg
33:37while training
33:38for a dangerous stunt.
33:40The death of
33:41John Eric Hexum.
33:42I was in Special Forces
33:43for Denny, Georgia.
33:45They came in
33:46and looked sober,
33:47about as uncomfortable
33:48as what you're doing here.
33:49Between September 1984
33:51and April 1985,
33:54CBS aired an action thriller
33:56called Cover Up.
33:57It starred John Eric Hexum
33:59as Mac Harper,
34:01a former Green Beret
34:02who's hired by a fashion photographer
34:04to find her husband's killers.
34:06On October 12, 1984,
34:09Hexum was waiting on set
34:10when he got bored
34:11and began playing with a gun
34:13loaded with blanks.
34:15He unloaded all but one blank
34:17and played a round
34:18of Russian roulette.
34:20Not knowing how dangerous
34:21this was,
34:22he pulled the trigger
34:23and fired a blank
34:24straight into his temple.
34:26The shot fractured his skull
34:28and caused an enormous
34:30brain hemorrhage.
34:31Unfortunately,
34:32the damage was too great
34:34to repair
34:34and Hexum died
34:36six days later.
34:38Clayne Crawford's
34:39Unfortunate Behavior
34:40In 2016,
34:48Fox began airing
34:49a lethal weapon show
34:51based on the iconic film series.
34:53Roger Murtaugh
34:54and Martin Riggs
34:55were back
34:56after nearly 20 years
34:58and they were respectively
34:59played by Damon Wayans
35:01and Clayne Crawford.
35:02Unfortunately,
35:03the latter caused
35:04a slew of problems on set.
35:06Crawford was reportedly
35:08known for his angry outbursts,
35:10which made those
35:11around him uncomfortable.
35:13One instance
35:13even resulted
35:14in studio-appointed therapy
35:16and Crawford giving up
35:18some of his paycheck
35:18to the afflicted party.
35:20It was all too much
35:21for the cast and crew,
35:23many of whom voiced
35:24their displeasure
35:24at working with Crawford
35:26and he was fired
35:27at the end
35:27of the second season.
35:29Murtaugh is without a Riggs.
35:31A Lethal Weapon star
35:32leaves the action series
35:33after multiple accounts
35:34of bad behavior on set,
35:36including endangering
35:37his fellow castmates.
35:39The fall of Louis C.K.
35:40I go to my daughter's school
35:42to volunteer sometimes.
35:44My daughter goes
35:45to a public school
35:45and I volunteer
35:46not because I'm a good person
35:47but because you have to
35:49because nobody works there.
35:51While he's primarily
35:51known for his stand-up,
35:53Louis C.K. also found
35:54great success on television,
35:56especially with his surreal
35:58Emmy-winning Louis.
35:59The series entered
36:00an indefinite hiatus
36:02in 2015
36:03at the end of its fifth season,
36:04with C.K. planning
36:06on returning to it
36:07at some point in the future.
36:09But that changed
36:10when the comedian
36:10was accused
36:11of inappropriate
36:12sensual behavior.
36:13The story began
36:14that very year
36:15when fellow comedian
36:16Roseanne Barr
36:17shared some nasty rumors
36:19about C.K.'s secret behavior.
36:21These rumors
36:22were confirmed
36:23two years later
36:24in the midst
36:24of the Me Too movement
36:25and C.K. admitted
36:27his transgressions.
36:28As a result,
36:30FX cut all ties
36:31with their star
36:32and Louis was canceled.
36:33News this morning
36:34about the comedian
36:35Louis C.K.,
36:36who has come out
36:36to say that
36:37the accusations
36:37against him
36:38are in fact true.
36:40The Dollar 98 Beauty Show.
36:42And now a lovely young lady
36:44who is truly one
36:45of television's
36:45brightest stars
36:46from the show
36:47One Day at a Time,
36:48Mackenzie Phillips.
36:51The 70s were certainly
36:53a different time,
36:54one in which producers
36:55thought laughing at people
36:56would make for
36:57appropriate television.
36:59The Dollar 98 Beauty Show
37:00was a parody
37:01of beauty pageants,
37:03with contestants
37:03demeaning themselves
37:04for less than $2
37:05in prize money
37:06and a bouquet
37:07of rotten vegetables.
37:09Much of the humor
37:10came at the expense
37:11of the contestants,
37:12with host Rip Taylor,
37:14announcer Johnny Jacobs,
37:15and a group
37:16of celebrity panelists
37:17often ripping
37:18into their physical appearance.
37:20When an overweight woman
37:21is comedically called
37:22a, quote,
37:23tow truck,
37:24you know things
37:24have gone too far.
37:26The show
37:26is viciously criticized
37:27for being mean-spirited
37:29and canceled
37:30after two seasons.
37:31Molly measures
37:3235, 25, 35.
37:35Molly says
37:36that she has
37:37a tremendous love
37:37for horses,
37:38which is probably
37:39the reason
37:40why she's been
37:40divorced twice.
37:42The allegations
37:42against Dan Schneider.
37:44Well, um,
37:46better get going.
37:47Oh, and be careful.
37:48Why be careful?
37:49You may not know
37:50his name,
37:51but you certainly
37:51know his TV shows.
37:53A successful producer,
37:55Schneider created
37:55some of the most
37:56iconic Nickelodeon
37:57programs of all time,
37:59including Drake and Josh,
38:01iCarly,
38:02and Zoey 101.
38:03If you can name
38:04a Nickelodeon sitcom,
38:05chances are
38:06that Schneider made it.
38:07But this prosperous
38:08relationship
38:09came to an end
38:10in 2018
38:11when Nickelodeon
38:12fired Schneider
38:13for inappropriate behavior.
38:15This included
38:16a long history
38:16of temper issues,
38:18angry outbursts,
38:19and an alleged
38:20foot fetish
38:21that saw him
38:21posting photos
38:22of his actress's feet.
38:24New allegations
38:25emerged a few years later,
38:27claiming that Schneider
38:28would ask for massages
38:29and was prone
38:30to gender discrimination.
38:32I see the problem.
38:33Oh, do ya?
38:35A workplace hazard.
38:36Bryce Dion was killed
38:37in August 2014.
38:39He had followed
38:40Omaha police
38:41into a Wendy's
38:41where a robbery
38:42was taking place.
38:43Cops has been
38:44a TV staple
38:44since 1989
38:46and has aired
38:47well over 1,000 episodes
38:49in that time.
38:50The premise is simple.
38:51A small camera crew
38:52follows everyday cops
38:54and films them
38:55doing their job.
38:56Usually,
38:57the show consists
38:58of minor things
38:59like public drunkenness
39:00and drug arrests,
39:02but sometimes
39:02things get tragically heated.
39:05On the night
39:05of August 26, 2014,
39:07a crew operating
39:08in Omaha
39:09responded to a robbery
39:10at a local Wendy's.
39:12The police opened fire
39:13on the suspect
39:14and accidentally hit
39:15the cop's audio technician,
39:17Bryce Dion.
39:18Dion was hit
39:19by a stray bullet
39:20and rushed
39:21to the hospital,
39:22but he quickly died
39:23of his injuries.
39:24Dion's brother
39:25later sued
39:26the city of Omaha,
39:27but his case
39:28was dismissed.
39:29An 11-page lawsuit
39:30claims negligence
39:31on the part
39:31of the Omaha
39:32police department
39:33and asked the city
39:34for payment
39:35to the heartbroken
39:36family of Dion.
39:37Jimmy Savile.
39:38British television
39:39personality
39:40and DJ Jimmy Savile
39:42was adored
39:43for years
39:43as the host
39:44of iconic BBC
39:45programs
39:46Top of the Pops
39:47and Jim'll fix it.
39:49Last week,
39:49we fixed it
39:50for Katie
39:50to meet Doctor Who
39:51and she sent me
39:52a very nice letter
39:53to Jimmy.
39:54Thanks for fixing
39:54it for me.
39:55Posthumously,
39:56several minor abuse
39:57allegations
39:58spanning decades
39:59were made
40:00against Savile.
40:01It called into question
40:02for many
40:02how and why
40:03he was never caught
40:05while he was still living.
40:06The BBC
40:07has also been criticized
40:08for turning a blind eye
40:09to a monster
40:10who one survivor
40:11called,
40:12quote,
40:12the most disgusting
40:13human being
40:14I've ever met.
40:15To this day,
40:16the total number
40:17of Savile's victims
40:18is unknown.
40:19The silence
40:20has been shattered
40:21and more of those
40:22who were scared
40:23or felt they
40:24wouldn't be believed
40:25are coming forward.
40:26Karen Ward
40:27had told BBC's
40:28Newsnight last year
40:30of what she saw
40:30as a 14-year-old
40:32at the BBC
40:32but to her anger
40:34they didn't run it.
40:35The mysterious death
40:36of George Reeves.
40:38Before Christopher Reeve
40:39donned the red and blue
40:40of the Man of Steel,
40:42George Reeves
40:42played him
40:43on the syndicated
40:44Adventures of Superman,
40:46the first Superman
40:47television show.
40:48it ran for six seasons
40:49between 1952
40:51and 1958.
40:53The next year,
40:54Reeves died
40:55of a mysterious
40:56gunshot wound.
40:57Reeves had supposedly
40:59taken his own life
41:00inside his L.A. home
41:01the result of depression
41:02and feelings of failure.
41:04But this finding
41:05has long been contested
41:06and debated.
41:08Some have theorized
41:09that famed Hollywood fixer
41:11Eddie Mannix
41:11was involved.
41:13Others point to
41:13Reeves' fiancee,
41:15Leonore Lemon.
41:15We'll likely never know
41:17what truly happened
41:18and for now,
41:19we just have to accept
41:20the potentially bogus
41:22self-harm theory.
41:23And now,
41:24another exciting episode
41:25in the Adventures of Superman.
41:27The cancelled makeover
41:28of Deleese Williams.
41:30Tonight,
41:31a My Fair Lady makeover.
41:33More extreme
41:34than any done before.
41:36I would just love
41:37to be able to look at myself
41:38and see
41:39a whole different person.
41:41Extreme makeover
41:42was an ABC program
41:43that saw ordinary people
41:45undergoing plastic surgery
41:46to attain their dream appearance.
41:49Needless to say,
41:50the show garnered
41:51much controversy
41:52in its day
41:53and it even resulted
41:54in a death.
41:55A Texas woman
41:56named Deleese Williams
41:57was slated to appear
41:58on the show.
41:59Producers arrived
42:00at her hometown
42:01and goaded family members
42:03into saying awful things
42:04about Williams'
42:05physical appearance.
42:07She was in the next room
42:08listening in
42:08for reaction shots.
42:10But Williams' spot
42:11was cancelled
42:12at the last minute
42:13owing to scheduling conflicts
42:15and she had already heard
42:17the nasty things
42:18that were said about her.
42:19Williams' sister,
42:20Kelly McGee,
42:21was so distraught
42:22and guilt-ridden
42:23over what she had said
42:24that she took her own life.
42:27The quiz show scandals.
42:29Dan Enright
42:30came to see me
42:31in my kitchen
42:32and he said,
42:33how'd you like to make
42:34$25,000?
42:36And I said,
42:36who wouldn't?
42:37It was the late 1950s
42:39and television
42:39was still a very young industry.
42:42Enter the producers
42:43of various game shows
42:44who wish to increase ratings
42:46and make stars
42:47out of their players
42:48by fixing the games.
42:49These are now called
42:50the quiz show scandals
42:52and they threatened
42:53the very integrity
42:54of television.
42:55While these scandals
42:56rocked numerous shows,
42:58the most infamous story
42:59involved 21
43:00and contestants
43:01Herb Stemple
43:03and Charles Van Doren.
43:05Reigning champion Stemple
43:06was instructed
43:07to throw the game,
43:08so Van Doren could win
43:09and he went on
43:10to enjoy his own
43:11famous winning streak.
43:13Both would later testify
43:14in front of Congress,
43:16which in turn
43:16amended the law
43:17to prevent future cheating
43:18on TV game shows.
43:20See, I don't think
43:21an adult of your intelligence
43:22ought to be commended
43:23for simply at long last
43:25telling the truth.
43:26The Poor Horses
43:28Guess I still know a peach
43:31when I see one.
43:33The HBO horse racing drama
43:35Luck had a slew
43:36of talent behind it.
43:37It was created
43:38by David Milch
43:39of Deadwood fame
43:40and the pilot
43:41was directed
43:41by Michael Mann
43:42and it starred
43:44Dustin Hoffman
43:45in the lead role.
43:46Yet, it only lasted
43:47nine episodes.
43:49The show was actually
43:50picked up for a second season,
43:52but it was then revealed
43:53that the show's racehorses
43:54had suffered
43:55numerous tragedies.
43:56Two horses had died
43:57during production
43:58of the first season
43:59as they suffered
44:00fractures during runs
44:01and were subsequently
44:02euthanized.
44:04A third horse died
44:05while filming the second season,
44:07prompting HBO
44:08to suspend production
44:09and launch an investigation.
44:11The show was then cancelled,
44:13with HBO claiming
44:14that they didn't want
44:15any more accidents
44:16to occur.
44:17Google.
44:18Don't shoot.
44:21No Girls Allowed
44:24Amy Allen?
44:26I'm Hannibal Smith.
44:28I understand you want
44:28to hire the A-Team.
44:29One of the most popular
44:30shows of the 80s,
44:32the A-Team followed
44:33the adventures
44:33of four mercenaries
44:35working in Los Angeles.
44:37Nothing screams
44:3780s machismo
44:38quite like it,
44:40and perhaps unsurprisingly,
44:42women had a very difficult
44:43time working on the show.
44:45The first two seasons
44:46starred Melinda Cuglia
44:47as reporter Amy Allen.
44:49Cuglia often voiced
44:50her displeasure
44:51at playing second fiddle
44:52to the A-Team
44:53and asked for more to do,
44:55and she was fired
44:57as a result.
44:58In came Marla Heasley
44:59to replace her
45:00as Tanya Baker,
45:01but she was quickly dropped also
45:03and was never even added
45:04to the opening credits.
45:06Most people lay blame
45:07at the feet of George Pepperd,
45:08who reportedly insisted
45:09that no female
45:10be given a lead role.
45:12Now, if you wanted somebody
45:13with good manners,
45:15you should have hired
45:15an English butler.
45:16Tommy Cooper dies
45:18on live TV.
45:20I should have produced
45:21some zepty cloth
45:21for live ducks.
45:23Oh!
45:25They've got away again.
45:27A popular English magician,
45:29Tommy Cooper saw great success
45:30throughout the 60s and 70s
45:32by appearing on numerous
45:34television programs.
45:36Unfortunately,
45:37his health began to suffer
45:38in the late 70s,
45:39owing to excessive drinking
45:41and cigar smoking,
45:42resulting in tragedy
45:44on the night of April 15th, 1984.
45:47Cooper was performing
45:48on a variety show called
45:49Live From Her Majesties
45:51when he suddenly collapsed.
45:53The audience laughed
45:54at the sight of Cooper
45:55falling over,
45:56believing that it was part
45:56of his comedic act.
45:58In reality,
45:59Cooper had suffered
46:00a fatal heart attack.
46:02The show continued
46:02as people tried to revive
46:04Cooper offstage,
46:05and he was eventually
46:06taken to Westminster Hospital.
46:08Unfortunately,
46:09he was declared DOA,
46:11having died in front
46:12of 12 million viewers.
46:15And you put your hand
46:15in the bag,
46:16and you're bringing
46:17the egg out
46:17with hundreds of applause.
46:22The Glee Curse
46:24And I know that there have been
46:25a lot of memorials for him,
46:27but I had this made,
46:28and I was hoping
46:30that we could hang it in here.
46:31Despite being one of the most
46:33popular shows of the 2010s,
46:35Glee has left behind
46:36a questionable legacy.
46:38That has nothing to do
46:39with the show itself,
46:40but the actors
46:41who were at the helm.
46:42Many dark and disturbing things
46:44have either befallen
46:45the young cast
46:46or been perpetrated by them.
46:48Regarding the latter,
46:49Mark Salling pleaded guilty
46:51to some horrific crimes
46:52in 2017,
46:54and later took his own life.
46:56It has also been reported
46:57that Blake Jenner
46:58was physically abusive
46:59towards his then-wife,
47:00Melissa Benoist,
47:01even giving her
47:02a permanent eye injury.
47:04But horrible things
47:05have also happened
47:06to the actors.
47:07Cory Monteith died in 2013
47:09from a drug overdose,
47:11and Naya Rivera later drowned
47:13while boating with her son
47:14in California's Lake Piru.
47:17The Demise of Phil Hartman
47:19Hi, I'm Troy McClure.
47:21You may remember me
47:22from such films
47:22as The Greatest Story Ever Hooled,
47:24and they came to
47:25burgle Carnegie Hall.
47:26A television legend,
47:28Phil Hartman drew
47:29widespread acclaim
47:30for his work on shows
47:31like Saturday Night Live,
47:33News Radio,
47:34and The Simpsons.
47:35But throughout the 1990s,
47:37Hartman was in a strained
47:38relationship with
47:39Brim Omdahl,
47:40his third wife.
47:42Known for heavy substance use,
47:44Omdahl would often
47:45behave erratically,
47:47sometimes even violently.
47:49While Hartman was advised
47:50to leave Omdahl,
47:51he never did so.
47:53Tragically,
47:54in the early morning hours
47:55of May 28, 1998,
47:58an inebriated Omdahl
47:59shot and killed Hartman
48:00while he slept.
48:01After confessing
48:03to numerous people
48:03and drawing police attention,
48:06Omdahl locked herself
48:07in the bedroom
48:08and took her own life
48:09as well.
48:10The unsolved murder
48:12of Bob Crane.
48:13We're running a little bit
48:14behind times,
48:14pass the word around,
48:15football game is off.
48:16Oh no, Colonel,
48:18I was supposed to play
48:19fullback today.
48:21Fullback?
48:22Now I know we've got
48:23to get the game canceled.
48:24After running
48:25a successful radio show,
48:27Bob Crane moved on
48:28to acting
48:28and found work
48:30on Hogan's Heroes.
48:31The popular sitcom
48:32ran for six seasons,
48:34with Crane playing
48:35the titular Colonel
48:36Robert Hogan.
48:37But when the show
48:38came to an end in 1971,
48:40Crane struggled to find work
48:42and began doing
48:43dinner theater.
48:44By 1978,
48:46Crane was living in Arizona
48:47and doing a show
48:48called Beginner's Luck.
48:50On June 29th,
48:51Crane missed a meeting,
48:52prompting one of his co-stars
48:54to visit him
48:55at his apartment.
48:56There,
48:57they found Crane's
48:58dead body,
48:59which had been both
48:59bludgeoned and strangled.
49:02Blame fell on his friend,
49:03John Henry Carpenter,
49:04but he was acquitted
49:05in court.
49:06While some continue
49:07to point the finger
49:08at Carpenter,
49:09the murder
49:10is officially unsolved.
49:12Hey, you need a ride
49:13tomorrow to the airport.
49:14I got a luncheon at noon.
49:19John, don't bother.
49:21An unfortunate guest.
49:23And I really didn't want
49:24to get in the car.
49:25Um, but I was raised
49:28to respect my elders.
49:30You never know
49:31what types of people
49:32will show up on game shows.
49:34The dating game
49:34typically saw a woman
49:35asking questions
49:36to three men
49:37sitting behind a partition.
49:39She would then pick
49:40the man she liked the most,
49:41meet him face to face,
49:43and then go on a date.
49:44In 1978,
49:46a photographer named
49:47Rodney Alcala
49:48appeared on the show
49:49and won a date
49:50with Cheryl Bradshaw.
49:52However,
49:52she found him creepy
49:53and refused the date,
49:55and for good reason.
49:57By this time,
49:58Alcala had killed
49:59at least four women
50:00and served years
50:02in prison
50:02for sexual assault.
50:04He would kill
50:04even more
50:05after his appearance
50:06on The Dating Game,
50:07bringing his official
50:08body count to eight.
50:10Some believe
50:10it could be as high
50:11as 130.
50:13I'm called
50:14the banana
50:15and I look
50:16really good.
50:19Bill Cosby.
50:21Did you ever think
50:21that this day
50:22was gonna come?
50:25I've driven
50:25to this day
50:26for 32 years.
50:29It's amazing
50:29how fast
50:30a reputation
50:31can plummet.
50:32For many years,
50:33Bill Cosby
50:33was regarded
50:34as America's dad,
50:35winning over millions
50:36with his work
50:37on The Cosby Show.
50:38But allegations
50:39of sexual abuse
50:40followed Cosby
50:41throughout most
50:41of his career,
50:42with the earliest instance
50:44dating back
50:44to the mid-60s.
50:46These allegations
50:47continued
50:47into the 21st century,
50:49with the most
50:50legally formidable
50:51coming in 2004.
50:53It was then
50:53that a woman
50:54named Andrea Constand
50:55accused Cosby
50:57of sexual abuse.
50:58While most of Cosby's
50:59crimes fell outside
51:00the statutes
51:01of limitations,
51:02Constand's did not,
51:04and it was her case
51:05that briefly sent
51:06the comedian to prison.
51:08It is now believed
51:09that Cosby
51:09had been assaulting
51:10women for decades,
51:12even while serving
51:13as America's dad.

51:31The world loses
51:32Steve Irwin.
51:33Have a look at this.
51:38What a beautiful lizard.
51:41You're all right, mate.
51:42A popular wildlife expert
51:43and conservationist,
51:45Steve Irwin found
51:46unbelievable success
51:47on television
51:48as the crocodile hunter.
51:50He hosted the TV series
51:51of the same name,
51:52but also appeared
51:53on other programs,
51:55including the nature documentary
51:56Ocean's Deadliest.
51:57It was while filming
51:58this show
51:59that Irwin met
52:00his tragic demise.
52:02The host approached
52:03a short-tail stingray,
52:04which proceeded
52:05to sting him
52:06in the chest.
52:07Unfortunately,
52:08the barb got him
52:09directly in the heart,
52:10and Irwin quickly
52:12bled to death.
52:13The accident
52:14was captured on video,
52:15but the footage
52:16has never been released.
52:17Irwin's memorial service
52:19was held two weeks
52:20after his death
52:21and was watched
52:21by 300 million people
52:23around the world.
52:25Today's memorial service
52:26is a celebration
52:28of a man
52:29who's touched our lives
52:30and changed the world.
