The Week Ahead with Jack Houldsworth at The Yorkshire Post.
Transcript
00:00Hello, I'm Jack Hallsworth, writer at the Yorkshire Post, and here's what to look out for this week.
00:05In football first, and the Premier League is back, and tonight Leeds United face their first test of the new season as they host Everton at Ellum Road.
00:14Leeds will then be travelling to title hopefuls Arsenal to continue their campaign on Saturday.
00:19Leeds' two-year absence from the top flight came to an end when they secured the Championship title in the final game of last season.
00:25Manager Daniel Farker will be hoping that his team, including new signings, can start on a positive foot as last year all three promoted sides were relegated from the Premier League.
00:36Turning to arts, and it's the last week of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025.
00:41Locals and tourists alike have been descending on the cobbled streets of the Scottish capital throughout August, soaking up the atmosphere of what is the world's largest arts festival.
00:50Since 1947, the festival has acted as a rite of passage for many aspiring comedians and performers of all genres.
00:59This year is no different, with an eclectic blend of promising acts entertaining the ornate streets of Edinburgh for one final week.
01:07In music, and sticking with the theme of festivals, the renowned Leeds Festival 2025 rolled back into town on August 21st.
01:13The annual festival boasts a glistening line-up this year, with headliners including Hosea, Chapel Rowan, Bring Me the Horizon and Travis Scott.
01:23This will be a European-exclusive headline set from Travis Scott, as an array of household names share the Bramham Park stage, including Becky Hill, Rudimental, The Cooks and AJ Tracy.
01:34This year's edition of Leeds brings a transformation to festival camping as well, with new campsite areas created to reflect the needs, interests and energy of the range of festival goers.
01:45Now to auction. An unseen sketches of Queen Elizabeth II, which were drafted ahead of one of her most famous portraits, are set to fetch more than £5,000 at auction this week.
01:57The art by Geoff Stultines is set to be sold at Hanson's Auctioneers in Royston, Hertfordshire, on August 24th.
02:05Stultines produced one of Her Majesty's most famous portraits for her Golden Jubilee back in 2003.
02:10The seven and a half foot painting evoked worldwide recognition for its grandeur and realism.
02:17And now in education, there will be some nervous parents and young people this week, as teens across the country eagerly await their GCSE results.
02:25From 8am on Thursday, students will be able to find out their grades to complete the end of their secondary school training.
02:31But unfortunately in England, children must continue in some form of education or training until the age of 18.
02:38Whether that's at sixth form or college, through apprenticeships or traineeships, or combining work with part-time training.
02:44And that's it, that's the roundup for the week ahead. Cheers!
