00:00I'm going to assume here that you saw Barbarian.
00:04So we know that Zach is known for subverting expectations.
00:08When reading the script, how many of these moments did you have?
00:12Like, wait, what just happened?
00:14Yeah, a lot.
00:16And I read the script very slowly, which is a good sign.
00:19You know, when you read something quickly and you want just a general understanding of the overview of the story and all that kind of stuff.
00:26Like, is this somebody who I want to meet?
00:27And I read it slowly because I was into it.
00:30You know, I know that I have a tendency to do that.
00:32When I read Whale Fall by Daniel Krauss recently and I read the end very, very slowly because I didn't want it to end.
00:39And then when I met with him, I hadn't seen Barbarian yet.
00:42And then I met with Zach and really, really enjoyed our meeting because it was very personal.
00:48And then I saw Barbarian.
00:50And I was confused by Barbarian because it's, you know what I mean?
00:54You talk about what he's figured out a way.
00:57I don't know how, because it feels like everything has been done, but he's figured out a way to consistently surprise the audience, you know?
01:06And then when I saw Weapons, ultimately, I was blown away.
01:10I was blown away by what he did.
01:12Yeah.
01:13Well, same here.
01:14I really, really enjoyed it.
01:15And it's so different from Weapons, which I also think is like a feat, you know, to not make the same movie again, which is something a lot of people like.
01:25Yeah.
01:26Yeah.
01:26So, and what's something about working in horror movies that audience might not realize?
01:32Well, I mean, it's such a reactive genre.
01:35I mean, there's no way because it uses these cosmetic things and cinematically you can, you know, create a tone and dark and you can't see things and all that.
01:44And so it feels like this great, it feels like the story itself is its own character, which is very, you know, a horror film.
01:54It's very horror to do that.
01:56I remember that as a kid.
01:57I remember reacting not necessarily to the acting and all that.
02:00So you look at a role like this and you go, well, where's the role?
02:03You know, can I, can I have a Serbian accent or can I have a limp or something like that?
02:09But it's not about that.
02:10It's just all serving the story, you know?
02:13So I think it's, yeah, I think it's something that, that, that people are going to be very, at least from what I've sensed from you guys.
02:23I got a lot of texts last night from journalists who just saw it and it was all pretty positive and very reactive.
02:30Yeah, no, definitely.
02:31And speaking of childhood, do you remember the first horror movie experience that made you either fall in love with the genre or made you really, really scared?
02:40Because this one speaks to my childhood nightmares.
02:43Yeah, I think the, the one that I remember most, the one that affected me the most was Friday the 13th.
02:50And I, you know, you look back at that film and you go, is it a great film?
02:53No, not necessarily.
02:54But the story is, it's, I just never saw it coming.
02:59You know what I mean?
02:59And I, I was so raw and naive at that point.
03:03And it had a massive effect on me then.
03:07And then my memory of it had a massive effect on me, you know?
