00:00A number of Welsh rugby players have provisionally agreed deals to join a proposed new Rebel League
00:08R360.
00:10Fronted by Mike Tindall, the former Bath director Stuart Hooper and agent Mark Sporz, R360 plans
00:18to launch a 12-team global French ties competition aimed at delivering generational change in
00:23rugby.
00:24Backed by big investors including FSG, the Glazer family and Red Bull, according to Mail
00:31Online, the competition is targeting elite players such as Antoine de Pont.
00:37Despite Wales' struggles on the international stage with only Jack Morgan and Thomas Williams
00:42selected for the British and Irish Lions tour, there remains strong interest in Welsh talent.
00:48The league is set to offer lucrative packages, with top players expected to earn around £740,000
00:55per season.
00:56R360's initial format would include just eight games between September and December next year,
01:02allowing players to remain available for international fixtures like the Six Nations.
01:06The league has also promised player-friendly perks such as 12 weeks off per year and two
01:12fully funded family visits.
01:14The WIU is preparing for its own radical shake-up, with plans to cut Wales' four professional regions
01:21to just two by 2027.
01:24The aim is to consolidate talent and invest around £9 million per side in a bid to improve domestic
01:30and international results.
01:32However, this reduced structure and current financial limitations could make it even harder
01:37for Welsh rugby to hold on to top-tier players, particularly with interests from Japan, France and England
01:44already strong.
01:46Sources have revealed that several Welsh players have already indicated a willingness to join R360
01:52if the project proceeds, though their names remain confidential.
01:56World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin acknowledged the potential disruption, reiterating the importance
02:02of international rugby.
02:04Players want to play World Cups, the Olympics and the Six Nations, he said.
02:08If competitions don't allow that, the players will vote with their feet.
