00:36The Two Towers
00:39We have not found what we saw, but what have we found?
00:46Not orcs, elves.
00:48Nay, not elves. Elves do not walk in Ithilien these days, and elves are wondrous fair to look upon, or so it is said.
00:54Meaning we're not, I take it?
00:57And when you finish discussing us, perhaps you'll say who you are, and why you can't let two tired travellers rest.
01:03I am Faramir, Captain of Gondor, and there are no travellers in this land, only the servants of the Dark Tower of the White.
01:09We are neither, and travellers we are, whatever Captain Faramir may say.
01:14Then make haste to declare yourselves and your errand. Where is the third of your company?
01:18The third?
01:19The skulking fellow that we saw with his nose in the pool down yonder. Some spying breed of orc, I guess. He gave us the slip by some fox trick.
01:27I do not know where he is. He is only a wretched, gangrel creature, but I have him under my care for a while. If you come upon him, spare him and send him to us.
01:37As for us, we are hobbits of the Shire. Frodo, son of Drogo, is my name, and with me is Samwise, son of Hamfast. We have come by long ways out of Rivendell.
01:49Out of Rivendell?
01:50Yes. Seven companions we had. One we lost in Moria. The others we left at Parthgarlen above Rauros. Two of my kin, a dwarf there was also, and an elf, and two men, Aragorn and Boromir.
02:05Boromir. Boromir, son of Lord Denethor. You came with him. He was High Warden of the White Tower and our Captain General. What had you to do with him?
02:17Are the riddling words known to you that Boromir brought to Rivendell? Seek for the sword that was broken. In Imladris it dwells.
02:27The words are known indeed. It is some token of your truth that you also know them.
02:31Aragorn, whom I named, is the bearer of the sword that was broken, and we are the halflings that the Rhyme spoke of.
02:38And what of Isildur's bane?
02:42That is hidden. Doubtless it will be made clear in time.
02:46Hidden, then? Is not that because you choose to hide it?
02:49No, not because I choose. It does not belong to me or to any mortal, great or small. Though if any could claim it, it would be Aragorn, the leader of our company from Moria to Rauros.
03:00Why he, and not Boromir, prince of the city that was founded by the sons of Elendil?
03:04Well, because Aragorn is descended in direct lineage from Isildur, Elendil's son. And the sword that he bears is Elendil's sword.
03:13The sword of Elendil?
03:14Maybe. But so great a claim will need to be established if Aragorn comes to Minas Tirith.
03:19Boromir was satisfied of that claim. He will tell you when he comes.
03:24So, Boromir will tell us when he comes.
03:28Were you a friend of Boromir?
03:30He was a valiant member of our company. Yes, I was his friend for my part.
03:38Then you would grieve to learn that Boromir was dead?
03:43I would grieve indeed.
03:46Dead?
03:48Do you mean that he is dead and that you knew it?
03:52You've been trying to trap me in words, playing with me.
03:54How then did he die and how do you know of it?
03:56But I had hoped that his friend and companion might tell me the manner of his death.
04:01But he was alive and strong when we parted.
04:03And he lives still, for all that I know, though surely there are many perils in the world.
04:08Many indeed. And treachery, not the least.
04:10Now, beg your pardon, Mr. Frodo, but this has gone on long enough.
04:13He's no right to talk to you like this after all you've been through.
04:15Now, see here, Captain.
04:16Let's come to the point.
04:18If you think my master murdered this Boromir and then ran away,
04:20well, you've got no sense, but say it, have done.
04:23Patience!
04:24Do not speak before your master, whose wit is greater than yours.
04:29You asked, Frodo, how do I know that the son of Denethor is dead?
04:35Tidings of death have many wings,
04:37and night oft brings news to near kindred.
04:41Boromir was my brother.
04:41Do you remember aught of special mark that Boromir bore with him?
04:51I remember that Boromir bore a horn.
04:56Eleven days ago, at about this hour,
04:59I heard the blowing of that horn.
05:02From the northward it seemed, but dim,
05:05as if it were but an echo in the mind.
05:07On the third night after,
05:11a stranger thing befell me.
05:13I sat at night by the waters of Anduin,
05:15under the pale moon.
05:17I saw, or...
05:18It seemed that I saw
05:21a boat of strange fashion,
05:23with a high prow,
05:25almost filled with clear water,
05:27and locked in the water,
05:29a warrior lay asleep.
05:32About his waist,
05:33he wore a strange belt
05:35of linked golden leaves.
05:38It was Boromir,
05:40my brother,
05:42dead.
05:44The boat passed on into the night,
05:47like a dream,
05:48and yet there was no waking.
05:51And I do not doubt that he is dead,
05:55and has passed down the river to the sea.
05:59Alas, that was indeed Boromir,
06:02for the golden belt was given to him in Lothlorien.
06:06By the Lady Galadriel.
06:07You passed through the land of Lorient?
06:09Yes.
06:10Much that is strange about you,
06:12I begin to understand.
06:15Oh, Boromir,
06:16what did she say to you?
06:19The lady that dies not.
06:21Oh, I...
06:22But it was no dream,
06:26for the horn returned in truth,
06:28and not in seeming.
06:30It was found cloven in two
06:31in the reeds below the infalls of the Entwash,
06:33and now lies upon the lap of Denethor,
06:36as he sits in his high chair waiting for news.
06:39Your tale fills me with dread,
06:40for if Boromir was slain,
06:44then I must fear that all my companions perished too,
06:48and they were my kindred and my friends.
06:50Oh, I'm weary and full of grief and afraid.
07:01But I have a deed to do,
07:03or to attempt,
07:04before I too am slain.
07:06Go back, Faramir,
07:08and defend your city while you may,
07:10and let me go where my doom takes me.
07:16Will you not put aside your doubt of me
07:18now
07:20and let me go?
07:23I doubt you no longer, Frodo.
07:27But I cannot do as you ask.
07:30I should now take you back to Minas Tirith,
07:32there to answer to Denethor,
07:34and my life will justly be forfeit
07:36if I now choose a course that proves ill for my city.
07:38So, I will not decide in haste what is to be done.
07:43We will go to a secret place we have,
07:45some ten miles from here.
07:47There we may rest for a while.
07:49In the morning I will decide what is best for me to do,
07:52and for you.
07:54They set out at once,
07:56passing like grey and green shadows
07:59under the old trees,
08:00their feet making no sound.
08:03Above them many birds sang,
08:06and the sun glistened
08:08on the polished roof
08:09of dark leaves
08:10in the evergreen woods
08:12of Athelion.
08:15I thought it better not
08:16to pursue the matter of Isildur's bane
08:18in the open before many men.
08:20But I think you were not
08:22wholly frank with me, Frodo.
08:25I told no lies, Faramir,
08:27and all the truth I could.
08:30I do not blame you.
08:32You spoke with skill in a hard place,
08:34but I learned more from you than your words said.
08:37You were not friendly with Boromir,
08:39or you did not part in friendship.
08:43Isildur's bane,
08:44I would hazard that was what lay between you
08:46and bred contention in your company.
08:48Though what it is,
08:49I know not.
08:50I remember only that I heard of it
08:52in a tale told by Mithrandir
08:53when I was a child.
08:56Mithrandir?
08:57You knew Gandalf?
08:59He was the leader of our company.
09:01And where is he now?
09:03Ah, he was lost in Moria.
09:07An evil fate seems to have pursued your company.
09:10But fear me not.
09:13I have no desire for this thing
09:14which Isildur took from the enemy.
09:16I would not take it if it lay by the highway.
09:19Not were Minas Tirith falling in ruin,
09:21and I alone could save her
09:22using the weapon of the Dark Lord
09:23for her good and my glory.
09:26No, I do not wish for such triumph.
09:29Neither did the Council of Elrond,
09:31nor do I.
09:32I have nothing to do with such matters.
09:34For myself,
09:35I would see the white tree and flower again
09:37in the courts of the kings,
09:39and the silver crown return,
09:41and Minas Tirith in peace.
09:44But now,
09:45you must pardon me.
09:47It is a command that no stranger,
09:49not even one of Rohan that fights with us,
09:51shall see the path we now go on.
09:54I must blindfold you.
09:57Very well.
09:59All that Frodo and Sam knew
10:01of the last mile of their road,
10:03they learned from guesswork.
10:06Always the noise of running water
10:08was on their right hand.
10:11And it grew nearer and louder.
10:13Then they were picked up
10:15and carried down many steps.
10:18The water seemed all round them now,
10:20and they felt a fine rain
10:22on their hands and cheeks.
10:25At last,
10:26they were set on their feet once more.
10:28Let them see.
10:30Let them see.
10:32Well, I never, Mr. Frodo.
10:35We're behind the waterfalls.
10:39Just look at the colors.
10:42It's just like being inside a rainbow.
10:46At least by good chance,
10:47we came at the right hour
10:48to reward you for your patience.
10:49This is the window of the sunset,
10:53Henneth Arnum,
10:54fairest of all the falls of Ithilien,
10:57land of many fountains.
10:59Few strangers have ever seen it.
11:01But there is no Kingly Hall to match it,
11:03only what meagre hospitality
11:04we can provide within our cave.
11:07Enter now,
11:08and take your rest.
11:09After so long journeying
11:13and camping
11:13and days spent in the lonely wild,
11:16the evening meal
11:17seemed a feast to the hobbits.
11:20Neither Frodo nor Sam
11:21refused anything that was offered,
11:23nor a second,
11:24nor even a third helping.
11:27The wine coursed
11:28through their veins
11:28and tired limbs
11:29as they sat at their ease
11:31with Faramir,
11:32telling tales of their adventures
11:33and listening to him
11:35tell of his.
11:36You don't say much
11:38in all your tales
11:38about the elves, sir?
11:40No, indeed,
11:41Master Samwise,
11:43for I am not learned
11:44in elven law.
11:45Yet there are among us
11:47still some
11:47who have dealings with elves,
11:48and ever and anon
11:49one will go in secret
11:50to Lorien,
11:51seldom to return.
11:53Not I.
11:54Yet I envy you
11:56that you have spoken
11:57with a white lady.
11:58She must be perilously fair.
12:00I don't know about perilous.
12:03Perhaps you could call her perilous
12:04because she's so strong
12:05in herself.
12:06You could dash yourself
12:07to pieces on it,
12:08like a ship on a rock,
12:10or be drowned yourself
12:11like a hobbit in a river.
12:13But neither rock nor river
12:13would be to blame.
12:15It strikes me
12:16that folk
12:16takes their peril
12:17with them in Tellurian
12:19and finds it there
12:20because they brought it.
12:21Now, Boromir...
12:23here.
12:23Now, Boromir,
12:25you would say,
12:26what would you say?
12:28He took his peril with him.
12:30Yes, sir.
12:31Begging your pardon.
12:32And as fine a man
12:34as your brother was,
12:34if I may say so.
12:36But you've been warm
12:37on the scent all along.
12:39I watched Boromir
12:40all down the road
12:41from Rivendell,
12:42looking after my master,
12:43as you understand.
12:44And it's my opinion
12:45that in Lorien
12:46he first saw clearly,
12:48what I guessed sooner,
12:49what he wanted.
12:51From the moment
12:52he first saw it,
12:53he wanted the enemy's ring.
12:58Sam.
12:59Huh?
12:59Oh, save me.
13:03There I go again.
13:04Now, look here, sir.
13:07Don't you go
13:08taking advantage of my master
13:09because his servant's
13:10no better than a fool.
13:11You've spoken very handsome
13:12all along
13:13and put me off my guard.
13:15But handsome is
13:15as handsome does.
13:17Now's a chance
13:18to show your quality.
13:20So it seems.
13:23So that is the answer
13:25to all the riddles.
13:27The one ring
13:28that was thought
13:28to have perished
13:29from the world.
13:32And Boromir
13:33tried to take it
13:34by force
13:34and you escaped
13:36and ran all the way
13:37to me.
13:39And here
13:40in the wild
13:41I have you.
13:44Two halflings
13:45and a host of men
13:46at my core
13:47and the ring
13:49of rings.
13:53A chance
13:54for Faromir,
13:56captain of Gondor,
13:57to show
13:58his quality.
14:00Draw your sword,
14:01Sam,
14:01stand by me.
14:09Alas for Boromir.
14:12It was too sore
14:13a trial.
14:17How you have
14:18increased my sorrow,
14:20you two strange
14:21wanderers
14:22from a far country,
14:23bearing the peril
14:24of men.
14:28We are truth speakers,
14:31we men of Gondor.
14:33I said,
14:34not if I found it
14:35on the highway
14:36would I take it.
14:37Even if I were such a man
14:39as to desire this thing,
14:40and even though
14:40I knew not clearly
14:41what this thing was
14:42when I spoke,
14:43still,
14:44I should take those words
14:45as a vow
14:46and be held by them.
14:48But I am not
14:50such a man,
14:51for I am wise enough
14:54to know that there
14:55are some perils
14:56from which a man
14:57must flee.
15:00I sit,
15:01sit at peace.
15:07Be comforted,
15:08Samwise.
15:09If you seem
15:10to have stumbled,
15:11think that it was
15:12fated to be so.
15:14It was safe
15:15to declare this thing
15:16to me.
15:17It may even help
15:17the master
15:18whom you love.
15:21Well, Frodo,
15:23at last
15:23we understand each other.
15:25Yes.
15:25If you took this thing
15:26on yourself,
15:27unwilling,
15:28at others asking,
15:30then you have pity
15:31and honour from me.
15:33And I marvel at you
15:34to keep it hid
15:36and not to use it.
15:39You are a new people
15:41and a new world to me.
15:43But tell me,
15:47if you will,
15:48whether you wish
15:48to go
15:49and what to do,
15:50for I must watch
15:52and wait
15:52and think.
15:54Ah.
15:56Yes,
15:57I was going...
15:58I was going to find
16:00a way to Mordor.
16:02I was going
16:03to Gorgoroth.
16:06Must find
16:07the mountain of fire
16:09and cast the ring
16:10into the gulf
16:11of doom.
16:15Gandalf,
16:16sir.
16:17Oh,
16:17Mr Frodo.
16:19Help me to carry him,
16:20Master Samwise.
16:21Yes, sir.
16:21I don't think
16:21I shall ever get there.
16:23Here we are, sir.
16:26Here we are, sir.
16:28Here.
16:29Now,
16:30I reckon
16:32he's just about all in.
16:34Yeah,
16:34he will sleep soundly tonight.
16:36I'll see to him now.
16:37Yes, sir.
16:38It's all right, sir.
16:39Good night, Captain.
16:41And
16:41you took the chance, sir.
16:44Did I, sir?
16:45Oh,
16:45yes, sir.
16:46And showed your quality.
16:48The very highest.
16:51The praise of the praiseworthy
16:52is above all rewards.
16:55Yet
16:55there was naught in this
16:56to praise.
16:58I had no love
16:59or desire
16:59to do other than
17:00I have done.
17:01Ah, well,
17:02sir,
17:02but I will say this.
17:05You have an air
17:06that reminds me
17:07of, well,
17:09Gandalf.
17:10Of wizards.
17:13Hmm.
17:14Maybe.
17:15Maybe you discern
17:16from far away
17:17the air of Numenor.
17:21Good night.
17:22And while Frodo slept
17:25in Ithilien,
17:26Aragorn
17:27and the Grey Company
17:28passed swiftly
17:30over the plain
17:31and came to Dunharrow
17:33as darkness fell.
17:35Beyond the ancient
17:36stronghold
17:37rose the grim
17:38black wall
17:39of the haunted mountain
17:41and at its foot
17:42the dark door
17:44to the paths
17:46of the dead.
17:51Is it then
17:52your errand
17:52to seek death?
17:54That is all
17:55you will find
17:55on that road,
17:56Aragorn.
17:57They do not
17:58suffer the living
17:58to pass.
17:59Lady Eowyn,
18:00I walked in this land
18:01ere you were born
18:02to grace it.
18:03The paths
18:04of the dead
18:04hold no terrors
18:05for me
18:06and they may
18:07suffer me to pass.
18:08I must venture it.
18:09No other road
18:10will serve.
18:11But this is madness
18:12for with you
18:14are men of renown
18:15and prowess
18:16whom you should not
18:17lead into the shadows
18:18but should lead
18:18to war
18:19where men are needed.
18:21I beg you
18:22to remain here
18:22with me
18:23to await the coming
18:25of my brother
18:25Eowyn,
18:26the king.
18:27Then when the muster
18:28of Rohan is completed
18:29shall you ride forth.
18:30It is not madness,
18:32lady,
18:32for I go on
18:33a path appointed.
18:35Those who follow me
18:36do so of their own
18:37free will.
18:38But why must you
18:40go on this deadly road?
18:42I do not choose
18:44paths of peril,
18:45Eowyn.
18:46I go because
18:47I must bear my part
18:48in the war
18:48against Sauron.
18:51Were I to go
18:52where my heart dwells
18:53far in the north,
18:54I would be wandering
18:55in the fair valley
18:56of Rivendell.
19:00You are a stern lord
19:02and resolute.
19:04But if you must go,
19:07let me ride
19:08in your following,
19:09for I am weary
19:10of skulking in the hills
19:11and I wish to face
19:12peril and battle.
19:13Your duty
19:14is with your people.
19:15Oh, too often
19:16have I heard
19:16of duty.
19:17But am I not
19:18of the house
19:19of Eowyn?
19:19A shield maiden,
19:21not a dry nurse?
19:22I can ride
19:23and wield a blade
19:24and I do not
19:25fear pain or death.
19:26What do you fear,
19:28Eowyn?
19:29A cage.
19:31To stay behind bars
19:32until use
19:33and old age
19:34accept them
19:35and all chance
19:36of doing great deeds
19:37is gone
19:38beyond recall
19:39or desire.
19:40And yet you counseled me
19:41not to adventure
19:42on the paths
19:43of the dead
19:43because it was
19:44a perilous road.
19:46So may one
19:47counsel another.
19:49Yet I do not
19:50bid you flee
19:51from peril,
19:52but to ride
19:53to battle
19:53where your sword
19:54may win renown
19:55and victory.
19:55I would not
19:57see a thing
19:57that is high
19:58and excellent
19:59cast away needlessly.
20:00Nor would I.
20:01Therefore I say
20:02to you,
20:03lady,
20:04stay,
20:05for you have
20:06no errand
20:07in the south.
20:09Neither have
20:09those others
20:10that go with thee.
20:12They go only
20:12because they would
20:13not be parted
20:14from thee,
20:15because they
20:16love thee.
20:19The sun
20:20was not yet
20:21risen above
20:21the high ridges
20:22in the east
20:23when Aragorn
20:24and his company
20:25set out.
20:27Eowyn stood still
20:28as a figure
20:29carven in stone,
20:31her hands
20:32clenched
20:33at her sides
20:34as she watched
20:35them
20:36until they
20:37passed into
20:37the shadows
20:38under the
20:39haunted mountain.
20:42A dread fell
20:44on Aragorn's
20:44company
20:45as they passed
20:46between the lines
20:46of ancient stones
20:47and so came
20:49to the dark
20:50door.
20:51It gaped
20:52before them
20:53like the mouth
20:54of night.
20:56Signs and figures
20:57too dim to read
20:58were carved
20:59above its wide
21:00arch
21:00and fear
21:01flowed from it
21:03like a grey
21:04vapour.
21:05My blood
21:07runs chill.
21:09This is a
21:10fearful place.
21:12This is an
21:12evil door
21:13and my death
21:14lies beyond
21:15it.
21:17I will dare
21:17to pass it
21:18nonetheless
21:18but no horse
21:21will enter.
21:21Our horses
21:22will face
21:23the terror
21:23of the paths
21:24of the dead
21:25if our own
21:25hearts are steady.
21:27They must
21:27go with us
21:28for if ever
21:29we come
21:30through this
21:30darkness
21:31many leagues
21:32lie beyond
21:32and every hour
21:34that is lost
21:35will bring
21:35the triumph
21:35of Sauron
21:36nearer.
21:38Light your
21:39torches.
21:41Follow me.
21:46Who shall
21:47call them
21:47from the grey
21:48twilight
21:49the forgotten
21:49people?
21:51the heir
21:52of him
21:52to whom
21:53the oath
21:53they swore.
21:55From the north
21:56shall he come
21:57need
21:59shall drive
22:00him
22:00he shall
22:03pass
22:03the door
22:04to the paths
22:05of the dead.
22:17And bearing
22:19his torch
22:19aloft
22:20Aragorn
22:21strode
22:22into the
22:23whispering
22:23darkness.
22:26Oath-breakers
22:28of Dunharrow
22:29the time
22:31has come
22:32to fulfil
22:33the promise
22:33made to
22:34Isildur.
22:35He laid
22:36a curse
22:36upon you
22:37that you
22:38should never
22:38rest
22:39until your
22:40oath
22:40was fulfilled.
22:42I
22:42Aragorn
22:44the heir
22:45of Isildur
22:47summon you
22:47summon you
22:48to the
22:48stone
22:49of Erech
22:49where you
22:50swore
22:51your
22:51allegiance.
22:54Follow.
23:00The torches
23:01have gone
23:01out.
23:02They will
23:02not be
23:03rekindled.
23:05Follow me
23:06through the
23:06darkness.
23:07Do you hear?
23:14The dead
23:14arise
23:16and follow
23:16us.
23:18I hear
23:18and I
23:20would that we
23:20were out of this
23:21terrible darkness.
23:22Of the time
23:25that followed
23:26Gimli
23:27remembered
23:28little.
23:29The others
23:30pressed on
23:30but he
23:31was ever
23:32hindmost
23:33pursued
23:34by a
23:35groping
23:35horror
23:36that seemed
23:37always
23:37just about
23:38to seize
23:39him.
23:41At length
23:41the company
23:42passed
23:43through a
23:43gateway
23:43high arched
23:45and broad
23:46and into
23:47a chasm
23:48of dark
23:48shadow.
23:51Above
23:51them
23:51the first
23:52stars of
23:53evening
23:54glinted
23:54in the
23:55sky.
23:57Friends
23:57forget
23:58your
23:58weariness.
23:59Mount

32:25me
32:26whither
32:27would you
32:27go
32:28where my
32:29guide
32:29leads
32:29me
32:30he said
32:32that there
32:32is
32:32or there
32:34may be
32:34a path
32:35near to
32:36Minas
32:36Ithil
32:36a path
32:38that climbs
32:39up into
32:39the mountains
32:40do you know
32:41the name
32:42of that
32:42high pass
32:43no
32:43it is
32:45called
32:45Kirith
32:46Ungol
32:47is not
32:50that its
32:50name
32:50no
32:51yes
32:52yes
32:53yes
32:54yes
32:54we heard
32:55the name
32:56one says
32:56yes
32:56but what
32:57does the
32:57name matter
32:58master says
32:59he must
33:00get in
33:01there is
33:01no other
33:02way to
33:02turn
33:02no
33:03no other
33:05way
33:05there is
33:08some dark
33:08terror
33:09that dwells
33:10in the
33:10high passes
33:11if
33:12Kirith
33:13Ungol
33:13is named
33:13old men
33:15and masters
33:16of law
33:16will blanch
33:18and fall
33:18silent
33:19Frodo
33:21do not
33:23go there
33:24the time
33:27came for
33:27Frodo
33:27and Sam
33:28to set
33:28out
33:29the cool
33:30morning air
33:30was fresh
33:31and sweet
33:32about them
33:32and they
33:33were in
33:33haste
33:34to depart
33:34but
33:35Faramir
33:35drew them
33:36aside
33:36for one
33:37last
33:37counsel
33:38Frodo
33:40I think
33:41you do
33:41very unwisely
33:42in this
33:43I do not
33:44think you
33:44should go
33:44with that
33:44creature
33:45he is
33:45wicked
33:45not
33:46altogether
33:46wicked
33:47not
33:47holy
33:48perhaps
33:48but malice
33:49eats him
33:50like a
33:50canker
33:50he will
33:51lead you
33:51to no
33:51good
33:52I have
33:52promised
33:52many times
33:53to take him
33:53under my
33:54protection
33:54and to go
33:55where he
33:55led
33:55you do not
33:56ask me to
33:56break faith
33:57with it
33:57no
33:58but my
33:59heart
33:59would
34:00I do not
34:01think you
34:01are holden
34:02to follow
34:02him to
34:02Kirith
34:02Ungol
34:03of which
34:03he has
34:03told you
34:04less than
34:04he knows
34:04it is a
34:06place of
34:06sleepless
34:07malice
34:07full of
34:08lidless
34:08eyes
34:08do not
34:10go that
34:10way
34:10where else
34:11would you
34:11direct
34:12me
34:12you cannot
34:14guide me
34:14to the
34:15mountains
34:15or over
34:15them
34:16but over
34:16the mountains
34:17I am
34:17bound to
34:18go
34:18by a
34:18solemn
34:19undertaking
34:19if I
34:20turn back
34:21where then
34:21shall I
34:22go among
34:22elves and
34:23men
34:23would you
34:24have me
34:24come to
34:25Gondor
34:25with this
34:25thing that
34:27drove your
34:27brother mad
34:28with desire
34:29oh
34:30oh
34:31Faramir
34:33what spell
34:34would it
34:34work in
34:35Minas
34:35Kirith
34:36would it
34:38not bring
34:38evil and
34:39decay
34:39as Sauron
34:40brought evil
34:41to Minas
34:41Ithil
34:41your twin
34:42city that
34:43was once
34:43so fair
34:44and turned
34:45it into
34:45the horror
34:46that is
34:46Minas
34:46Morgul
34:47shall there
34:49be two
34:49cities of
34:50Minas
34:50Morgul
34:51grinning at
34:52each other
34:53across a
34:53dead land
34:54filled with
34:55rottenness
34:55I would
34:57not have
34:58it so
34:58then what
35:00would you
35:00have me
35:00do
35:01I know
35:02not
35:02it
35:04is a
35:05hard
35:05doom
35:06and a
35:07hopeless
35:07errand
35:07I do
35:09not hope
35:09to see
35:10you again
35:10on any
35:11other day
35:11under the
35:12sun
35:12but you
35:14shall go
35:14now with
35:15my blessing
35:15upon you
35:16and upon
35:17all your
35:17people
35:18dear
35:20Faramir
35:21farewell
35:23farewell
35:24at the
35:28rising of
35:29the sun
35:29Gandalf
35:30and Pippin
35:31came at
35:31last
35:32to
35:32Minas
35:32Tirith
35:33and passed
35:34through the
35:34seven gates
35:35of the city
35:36to the
35:36court of
35:37the fountain
35:37with a tree
35:39why leave a
35:42dead tree in the
35:43courtyard when
35:43everything else is
35:44so well tended
35:45don't you remember
35:46the rhyme
35:47I spoke to you
35:48seven stars
35:49and seven stones
35:50and one white
35:50tree
35:51but it isn't
35:52white
35:52it's dead
35:54and broken
35:55and black
35:56it died
35:57with the
35:58twenty-first
35:58steward of
35:59Gondor
36:00and no
36:01sapling
36:01could be found
36:02to replace it
36:02but why leave it
36:03there
36:03because it is a
36:04descendant of
36:05Nimloth
36:06the white tree
36:07of Numenor
36:07which Sauron
36:08burned on the
36:09altar of the
36:10temple of
36:10Armenelos
36:11for Isildur
36:13stole a fruit
36:14from that tree
36:15and from it
36:15grew the white
36:16tree of Gondor
36:18yes but why
36:18leave it
36:19no more questions
36:20peregrine
36:20we must go
36:23before Denethor
36:24and be careful
36:25of your words
36:25Denethor is not
36:26a kindly old man
36:27like Theoden
36:28he is proud
36:29and subtle
36:30a man of far
36:32greater lineage
36:33and power
36:33though he is not
36:34called a king
36:35but he will speak
36:37most to you
36:38and question you
36:39much
36:40since you can tell
36:41him of his son
36:42Boromir
36:42he loved him
36:44greatly
36:45too much perhaps
36:47but under cover
36:48of his love
36:49he will think
36:49it easier
36:50to learn
36:50what he wishes
36:51from you
36:51rather than
36:53from me
36:53really
36:54do not tell him
36:55more than you
36:56need
36:56leave quiet
36:58the matter
36:59of Frodo's
37:00errand
37:00well of course
37:01and say nothing
37:02about Aragorn
37:03unless you
37:06must
37:06why not
37:07what's wrong
37:08with Strider
37:08he'll be arriving
37:09here himself
37:10soon anyway
37:11maybe
37:11maybe
37:12though if he
37:14comes
37:14it is likely
37:15to be in some
37:15way no one
37:16expects
37:17not even
37:18Denethor
37:18who sees
37:20much
37:20at least
37:22he should
37:22come unheralded
37:23by us
37:24well I'm very
37:24sorry but I
37:25don't understand
37:25if you hadn't
37:26passed your time
37:27in the shire
37:27bird nesting
37:28and playing
37:29truant
37:29you might have
37:30known that
37:31Denethor
37:31is only
37:32steward
37:33he holds
37:34the office
37:34in the name
37:36of the king
37:36until he
37:37shall return
37:38yes
37:39but it is long
37:40since men
37:41believed that
37:41the king
37:42would truly
37:42return
37:43it's scarcely
37:45wise when
37:46bringing the
37:47news of the
37:47death of his
37:48heir to a
37:49mighty lord
37:49to speak
37:50over much
37:51of one who
37:51will claim
37:52the kingship
37:53kingship
37:54yes
37:54but I didn't
37:55know Strider
37:56if you've
37:56walked all
37:57these days
37:57with closed
37:58ears
37:59and mind
37:59asleep
38:00wake up
38:01now
38:01yes
38:02Gandalf
38:02come
38:03hail
38:07lord
38:08and steward
38:09of Minas Tirith
38:10Denethor
38:11son of
38:11Ekthelion
38:12I am
38:15come with
38:15counsel
38:16and tidings
38:17in a dark
38:17hour
38:18dark
38:18indeed
38:19is the
38:19hour
38:20and at
38:21such times
38:21you are
38:22wont to
38:22come
38:22Mithrandir
38:23but though
38:25all the
38:25signs
38:25forebode
38:26that the
38:26doom
38:26of
38:27Gondor
38:27is drawing
38:28nigh
38:28less
38:29now
38:29to me
38:29is that
38:30darkness
38:30than my
38:31own
38:32darkness
38:32it has
38:34been told
38:34to me
38:34that you
38:35bring with
38:35you one
38:35who saw
38:36my son
38:36die
38:37is this
38:37he
38:37it is
38:38one of
38:39the twain
38:40the other
38:41is with
38:42Theoden of
38:42Rohan
38:43and may
38:44come after
38:44halflings
38:46but this
38:47is not
38:47he
38:48of whom
38:48the omen
38:49spoke
38:49yet a
38:50halfling
38:50still
38:51and little
38:52love
38:52do I
38:53bear the
38:53name
38:53since
38:54those
38:54accursed
38:55words
38:55came to
38:56trouble
38:56our
38:57countryside
38:57and drew
38:58away
38:58my son
38:59on a
38:59wild
39:00errand
39:00to his
39:00death
39:01my
39:02Boromir
39:03now we
39:05have need
39:06of you
39:06Boromir
39:08should have
39:09gone in
39:09his stead
39:10he would
39:10have gone
39:11be not
39:12unjust
39:12in your
39:13grief
39:13Boromir
39:15claimed
39:15the errand
39:16and would
39:16not suffer
39:17any other
39:17to have
39:18it
39:18but you
39:20speak
39:20of his
39:21death
39:21you have
39:21had news
39:22of that
39:23ere we
39:23came
39:24I have
39:25received
39:26this
39:27that's
39:28the horn
39:28that Boromir
39:29always wore
39:30verily
39:30and in
39:31my turn
39:32I bore
39:32it
39:33and so
39:33did
39:33each
39:34eldest
39:34son
39:34of our
39:35house
39:35far back
39:36in the
39:36vanished
39:36years
39:37before the
39:37failing
39:38of the
39:38kings
39:39I heard
39:40it blowing
39:41dim upon
39:41the northern
39:42marches
39:42thirteen
39:43days ago
39:44and the
39:44river
39:44brought it
39:45to me
39:45broken
39:47what say
39:50you to
39:50that
39:51halfling
39:51thirteen
