00:00...in that moment, so yeah, that was the story of the day for the McLarens, brilliant drive from both of them, and we can hear from Oscar Piastri now.
00:18Hi Oscar, first of all, congratulations, it's another podium, the great run continues, I know you'll be disappointed though that it wasn't the P1, so where was it lost today?
00:27Do you think there was too much focus on battling Leclerc or, not for me, from the team or a general look?
00:35It's hard to say, I mean, you know, going into the race we thought a two-stop was the best thing to do, and, you know, in clean air potentially it still was, but, you know, having a two-stop race in clean air versus dirty air is a different story, so, you know, it's very easy now to say that a one-stop was the way to go,
00:57but, you know, one second different, and the answer would be very different, so, yeah, some things to analyse with the team, but overall I thought it was a good day.
01:08The pace the Ferrari had at the start, was that a bit of a surprise, the race pace, when he got away?
01:13Not massively, you know, he was quick, he was pushing a lot in the first few laps, but then, you know, towards the end of that stint,
01:20I felt like I could close the gap a little bit, but it was tough, but I expected him to be quick, and around here the dirty air is such a big difference that I wasn't that surprised.
01:34It looked like when you got out you were still able to smile, and you enjoyed a really good battle on track today, so what are you going to focus on over this break to keep that gap you've got?
01:43It might be down to nine points now, but over the break, what are you going to focus on for the rest of the season to make sure that you're the one with the hands on the trophy at the end?
01:51I mean, I think just doing mostly what we've been doing, I think the pace has been very good, you know, my execution of races has been good as well,
02:02and it's going to be a tight battle all the way to the end, so, yeah, just doing the same things.
02:09But you're enjoying it?
02:10Yes, thanks.
02:13Yeah, he is still managing to smile, although perhaps not so much on the podium.
02:18He still leads the championship, doesn't he, ladies, by nine points, and actually that was the closest winning margin, just seven-tenths between him and his teammate.
02:27There's not much more he could have done, really, today.
02:30Yeah, I don't think there is a lot more that he could have done.
02:32And I think back in the office now, when they start to review the strategy, there will be questions to be asked.
02:38Should they have stopped for the final stop a little bit later?
02:41Could that have given more of a tyre delta to Norris?
02:44Those sorts of questions they'll start to go through, and they'll look at what the traffic looked like.
02:48You know, I think his point is valid on the traffic, potentially, on the two-stop does hurt you a little bit, but, you know, he only really properly overtook Leclerc.
02:55So, they'll have a lot to go through.
02:59It was very interesting listening to his radio at the end of the race.
03:01He was really quite positive at the end of the race.
03:04So, I don't know if that's outwardly to encourage the team, or just, you know, he thanked them for the strategy.
03:10He said, thanks to all the strategy guys, thanks to all the team back there, you know, good work today.
03:14So, he was really positive.
03:16There will be stuff they'll review, and one of them is the two-stop versus the one-stop, and one of them is the second stop, should they have been a bit later.
03:22Okay, well, it was a really tough day for Charles Leclerc, because he wasn't able to convert that sublime pole position to a win today.
03:30Let's just hear his frustrations over Team Radio.
03:35Yeah, I can feel what we discussed before the race.
03:40We need to discuss those things before doing those.
03:48We are going to lose this race with these things.
03:51We are losing so much time.
03:52This is so incredibly frustrating.
04:00We've lost all competitiveness.
04:02You just had to listen to me.
04:03I would have found a different way of managing those issues.
04:07Now, it's just undrivable.
04:11It's a miracle if we finish on the podium.
04:12Charles, I'm guessing everyone's asking you what you were talking about on the radio when you said what we discussed before the race.
04:23We need to discuss those things.
04:24Can you give us any insight into what you were dealing with in the car?
04:27I spoke too quickly, I guess, because going out the car had a bit more details about what went on.
04:34I thought it was about something else that we had discussed.
04:39But unfortunately, it was a problem on the chassis.
04:41So there was an issue on that side and we'll look into it for it to not happen again.
04:46It doesn't really make me feel any better because when you are fighting for a win and then you have those kind of issues, I mean, it never happens.
04:55But today we've had this problem and we need to look at it for it to never, ever happen again because the car was just undrivable.
05:01So it's not the same issue that was happening earlier on in the season?
05:04No, no, no.
05:05It was a one-off.
05:08So it's something that we need to look into, but I don't think it's something that we'll have anywhere else again.
05:16Did it develop during the race then?
05:17Because you got away brilliantly at the start.
05:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:20It was around lap 40, I think.
05:22As soon as I started to struggle and complain, it's basically where we started to have the issue and then unfortunately it got worse and worse.
05:28So it must have been pretty difficult in the car then because you can't then, I guess, talk about that at the time and tell everyone what's going on.
05:34All you're doing is trying to do the best you can and it's not there for you.
05:37Yeah, I mean, it's very frustrating to have everything under control, to know that the pace is in the car to win and then you end up being nowhere.
05:49So we even lost the podium, so very disappointed.
05:51All right, thank you, Sean.
05:52Thanks.
05:54Well, Sean has only won one of his last 16 starts from pole.
05:57That was Monaco last year.
05:59He'll certainly want to reverse that pattern.
06:02I mean, it's a tricky one, isn't it?
06:04I know there will be positives that he can take from today.
06:07It's probably just a bit too soon to see them just yet.
06:09Yeah, I think there hopefully will be positives.
06:12His qualifying pace has won the positive.
06:14He seemed very frustrated.
06:15I don't, we don't have any idea what we were talking about, do we?
06:18No, he was incredibly cryptic on the radio, which doesn't really help us.
06:21But interestingly, he's talking about a chassis issue.
06:23So to me, that can be damage or a mistake on the car that, or mechanical mistake on the car that then failed lap 40.
06:30But we're not sure, are we?
06:31Yeah.
06:32My only wonder is, he seemed to suggest it started from a lap, but it seemed to be both hard tyre stints were much worse than the medium stints.
06:40So I don't know if it's cooling, either in the brake docks or what they're feeding into the hot tyres.
06:46You know, some teams will want a slightly different temperature in the hot tyres than they will in the medium tyres.
06:50So it feels like he, at least initially, emotionally on the radio, was saying, we should have handled this in a different way.
06:59So I'll need to go back and watch the pit stops and see if they took off a bit of tape or something to change the coolings in the brake docks.
07:05or maybe something has changed around the pit stops, but we don't have the answer right now and it's all very cryptic.
07:13Well, to compound his woes, he got a penalty for movement under braking.
07:20If we just have a quick look at it now.
07:21Yeah, this is a little bit naughty.
07:22I think this will be the second one where, oh no, that's the first go where George should have had a look up the inside.
07:28That didn't look too bad to me.
07:29It's always worse in the cockpit from George's perspective, but the second one, that was bad.
07:33George was already alongside and he started to squeeze him pretty closely and could have been a bit costly with potential floor damage and what have you if it ended up being a bit worse.
07:43So that warrants the penalty.
07:45I think obviously it didn't affect his race in the end, but I think just set to precedence and I think he was just frustrated at that point.
07:50Yeah, I was going to say, born out of frustration, do you think, about the fact that he just lost all this performance and saw the wind slip away from him?
07:57Yeah, you know, at that point on the radio, he was already very frustrated and there was a lot of strong communication between him and the team is probably the best word to use.
08:08You know, and he has that in his mindset that things are not going well.
08:12At that point, he went into the race, race in the two McLarens.
08:16He's already said on radio, if with these sorts of things, we're not even going to be in the podium.
08:20Then he's told, George is catching, catching, catching, catching, and then suddenly he's behind me and he's like, I told you I wasn't going to be on the podium.
08:27Why is nobody listening to me?
08:29And it does just feel like your day has sort of fallen apart.
08:33He came into this on the podium or on the pole position and now he's finishing in P4 at best.
08:40And that's got to be desperately hard when he hasn't actually done anything particularly wrong in the race.
08:45No, well, hopefully he will enjoy something of a summer break to just to take it all in, process it and put his feet up.
08:52But it will be celebrations for Lando Norris through the summer because he has won here in Hungary and closed the gap to his teammate to nine points.
09:05200 wins then for McLaren.
09:07And it looks like it could well be another special season.
09:25It's going to touch it.
09:26What a man, a brilliant goal.
09:27Great kick.
09:28What is it that just sensational?
09:31Running right.
09:33The only way is up these days.
09:35Oh, it's sturdy.
09:37That's a magnificent goal.
09:40This is world class.
09:43I am all the champions.
09:45Get ready or go first.
09:55You gotta hustle.
09:57You gotta be tough.
09:58If your dreams don't scare you, they ain't big enough.
10:00You gotta work it.
10:01Here's your shot.
10:02You only got one left.
10:03Give it all you got.
10:04Let's go.
10:05Let's go.
10:06Let's go.
10:08Locked and loaded.
10:10About to blow.

10:22The best tennis players in the world in Toronto.
10:32What a win on Canadian soil.
10:36Oh, he makes it.
10:37Très magnifique.
10:38Oh, he's got it.
10:41Center now starts to seize the momentum and control.
10:49That's incredible.
10:50That's incredible.
10:59What's all of the action?
11:02Let's go.
11:03Big names wherever you look.
11:08Up.
11:09Wow.
11:10Outrageous.
11:13It's extraordinary.
11:15I'm here to entertain.
11:18Oh, have you ever seen anything like it?
11:22Five-star tennis.
11:24On theme four.

12:36I remember my first actual race.
12:54In fact, I won it.
12:57To win a race now,
12:59it means that we've beaten other teams,
13:01other constructors.
13:02You have a better car.
13:06You drive it better.
13:10Formula One world champion.
13:13This is the thing you're trying to do.
13:15I was, I think, more excited
13:17than I've ever been before in my life.
13:19Debut in 1966.
13:21It is win number 200 for the McLaren team.
13:24This is very thrilling.
13:28Congratulations to McLaren.
13:30What a landmark result for them.
13:32Delighted to be joined now by SAIL VAS Gabriel Butoleto.
13:35Congratulations.
13:36Your third point's finished in four races.
13:39You probably don't want a summer break, do you?
13:41You just want to keep on racing.
13:42Yeah, I mean, it's a short break anyway.
13:46It's only three weeks
13:46and then we are in Zandvoort already.
13:48So I'm looking forward to have a week with my family now,
13:51but I really want to drive again
13:52and keep this momentum that we are having
13:54because it's very important to keep up like this.
13:57You know, a lot of points scored in the last rounds
13:59and six points scoring in a row for Sauber, I would say.
14:03So that's great.
14:04You say there's a lot of momentum for you.
14:06You're one of the few drivers not to have loads of mileage
14:09in an F1 car prior to this season.
14:11How would you rate your season so far?
14:13Do you feel like you're really coming on strong now
14:15and do you feel like you're at the halfway point of the season
14:17or does it already feel like a long season?
14:19Yeah, I mean, as you said,
14:21my junior career was very fast as well.
14:25So that was not a really planning testing,
14:28one year of testing with F1 for me or anything.
14:30You know, it was literally, F2 was going so well
14:33and then I got my contract
14:35and then they didn't have a TPC car at the time.
14:39So when we got the TPC car,
14:42FIA put the rule of a thousand kilometers,
14:44you know, for the title drivers, the main drivers.
14:47So it was a problem because then I couldn't drive much
14:50and I was a very rookie, rookie driver
14:52when I started the season.
14:53But that's, you know, normal
14:55and you progress a lot through your season
14:56when you start in that level.
14:59And I feel like I've been learning so much.
15:01We're not only in raw speed,
15:02but I think mainly on understanding of my car
15:05and what do I need from it,
15:06working with the engineers and everyone.
15:08So today, your first race in an F1 car around Hungary,
15:13right behind Fernando Alonso's 22nd race around Hungary.
15:17So how much do you learn by following someone of that caliber
15:21so closely for 70 laps today?
15:24But not too closely because you're not allowed to beat him, right?
15:26Because he's your mentor.
15:27Not too closely.
15:28He's your mentor.
15:29You can't beat him.
15:30It's difficult to beat him.
15:31He knows how to play the game
15:32and he's slowing down at the right time,
15:35pushing at the right time.
15:36Also having Max behind was not easy at the beginning of the race
15:38and keeping him, you know, behind me was super tough.
15:41So honestly, it was a great race
15:43and I'm glad that I've been fighting with these guys
15:45at this moment of my career already.
15:48Gabi, it's great to see you.
15:49Great result.
15:50Thank you for your time and enjoy your holiday.
15:52Enjoy some family time.
15:53Thank you very much.
15:53Thank you so much.
15:55Okay, really tough day for Lewis Hamilton.
15:57His worst result here in Hungary for 15 years.
16:00Let's hear from him now.
16:04Hi, Lewis.
16:06Can we just ask you about the move with Max at Turn 4?
16:10I know that's being investigated.
16:11What was your take on it?
16:14I don't really remember, of course.
16:16When we spoke to you yesterday,
16:18you made a comment that I know has been picked up everywhere
16:20and you said change the driver.
16:22Can you just tell me, do you genuinely feel that way?
16:25Is there a point right now that you just don't have the answers
16:28and so you're finding it really difficult to pick yourself up
16:31or can you help us understand the comment a bit more?
16:37Not particularly.
16:38When you have a feeling, you have a feeling.
16:39and there's a lot going on in the background
16:43that it's not great.
16:49You lost your love of racing right now?
16:52No, I still love racing.
16:58Well, Lewis is still expecting more from himself.
17:01I think it's only natural sometimes when he changes teams
17:04and on a circuit where he's been so successful in the past as well.
17:07And maybe he was expecting more from today,
17:09but on the circuit where it's so difficult to overtake,
17:11he found himself in battles with,
17:14well, at least he was in decent company
17:16with people he's fought very hard before for world championships.
17:19and this was kind of the moment of the race where he got most involved,
17:25wasn't it, through turn four.
17:26Play on slow motion because Max tries to send it down the inside
17:30and if you stop it there, it kind of looks like the move was,
17:34he had a reason to be there as you come close to the apex of the corner.
17:38It's funny what different camera angles does sometimes
17:40when you look at how people race.
17:43And the two of them were sensible as well, as you would expect.
17:46Lewis having that capacity that you would expect
17:50from the seven-time world champion to not crash into each other.
17:55Although Max, you could argue, forces him off the circuit.
17:59And that's still under investigation.
18:00Fascinating to see how the stewards are going to play this one.
18:02But if you look at it from a different angle,
18:04first of all, let's go to the the on boards on this side by side.
18:09We've lined them up as best we can as they head up that hill.
18:12And unfortunately, on the left hand side here,
18:15I'll just go full frame for this momentarily because
18:17that we go to the nose camera
18:20is the only shots that we have.
18:22This is what happens sometimes just unlucky.
18:25It goes from the angle we really would have wanted
18:28to something that is a bit harder to judge.
18:31So by that point, I'll go back to the side by side
18:34and Lewis looking towards the apex
18:36and obviously can see somewhere in his mirror,
18:38unbelievably at those speeds, I must say,
18:40he can see where Verstappen is.
18:42And as I just roll it on a bit more,
18:45what you're looking for is, remember, the rule says the car overtaking
18:49or trying to overtake on the inside.
18:51The front axle must be in line with the mirror of the car,
18:56which is up there.
18:57So we're sitting basically alongside the wheel, just in front,
19:01in fact, of the of the axles and there's the mirror.
19:05So I think as the rule goes, before you get to the apex or even at the apex,
19:10as it is there on Verstappen's on board anyway,
19:14he he's not he hasn't got his front axle alongside,
19:17but it's still a bit difficult thanks to that nose cam that we're on.
19:21The best shot for that, really, I'm sure the stewards be looking at right now
19:27is this moment here from the helicopter shot
19:30just before they go in towards the where the trees are,
19:33which, again, it would be unlucky here because that is right on the apex.
19:38But if even before the apex, you can see that front axle nowhere near the mirrors.
19:44So I think that there was no contact Lewis acted accordingly and somehow managed to survive.
19:52Many drivers would have just turned in on the normal racing line
19:55and there would have been contact.
19:57There would have been a high speed spin.
19:59So that's something to consider there.
20:01So well done to Lewis for avoiding that one.
20:04But yeah, it's it's not really the race he wanted today,
20:07not the race that Verstappen wanted either.
20:09But that happens when the car hasn't quite got the the performance.
20:13And luckily for Lewis as well, just those two, two and a half tenths
20:17that he was away from Leclerc in Q2.
20:20And then eventually it meant that he couldn't get through to Q3.
20:23That's why his day was so difficult today.
20:25And that's, I believe, what he's reflecting on still at this moment right now.
20:30So hopefully that makes sense to to the fans that might be questioning,
20:33like, why is he still so downbeat after a pretty decent day?
20:37I think he did the most he could have done with that one stop today
20:39on a track where it's so difficult to overtake.
20:41Back to you, Nats.
20:42Thank you, Ant.
20:44Yeah, it was always going to be hard, wasn't it?
20:45I guess the issue with Lewis as well, certainly stepping back and looking at objectively,
20:50it was such a huge moment, him signing for Ferrari.
20:53I mean, a moment in history in the sport.
20:55And it's just been a massive anticlimax so far.
20:58Where do you think it's gone wrong for him?
21:00Yeah, I think there was a lot of hype around it.
21:03There was a lot of excitement around it.
21:05It was going to potentially be this dream team.
21:07You know, Lewis and a Ferrari reignite his love of the sport, bring back the performances
21:12of old that we've not seen in recent years with Mercedes.
21:15You know, if Ferrari could produce a big enough car, the eighth world championship was talked
21:19about a lot.
21:19But, you know, there was also a lot of talk about how difficult it would be to integrate
21:24to the team very different culturally, very different car, different engine, all of these
21:29things that Lewis has been used to for so much of his career.
21:32And we're seeing some of that play out.
21:34We're seeing some of that difficulty adjustment play out.
21:37But we did see Leclerc on pole.
21:40So he's obviously frustrated that he's not getting the best out of the car, even though
21:44the car is not as good as he would like it to be.
21:46So there's these two stages happening.
21:49And it does need a bit of a reset.
21:51It will need, I don't know if the end of the year can be turned around.
21:56Obviously, Lewis hopes they can and Ferrari hope they can.
21:59But they need to set themselves up for the strongest position they can be in next year.
22:03And I guess, well, he's already alluded to it, hasn't he, that the summer break can't
22:06come soon enough.
22:07He needs that mental reset as well.
22:09If nothing else, just to stop beating himself up.
22:12It's horrible to see him like that.
22:14It is horrible.
22:15It's hard listening.
22:16But to pick up on Bernie's point as well, I think he's in a different position as well.
22:19He's gone to Ferrari to try and win his eighth world title with a third team.
22:23He's not gone there just to try and get a few good results.
22:25He's not a young driver that, you know, is just on his way up the ladder.
22:28And hoping to kind of progress his career.
22:31He wants that world title.
22:33And he knows, exactly as Bernie said, that the car's not there to win a world title.
22:37And for whatever reason, he feels like he's not there at the moment either.
22:40So it's like double whammy.
22:41And I think you're absolutely right.
22:42A summer break is needed.
22:44It's not actually that much of a break, to be honest, when you actually think about how
22:48much time they get off.
22:49But hopefully he can bounce back.
22:50And we won't see him quite in this frame of mind.
22:53Yeah, hopefully just enough to press the reset button.
22:56OK, let's hear from his old teammate now.
22:57George Russell, who got his sixth podium of the year.
23:04George, huge congratulations.
23:07Were you aware that Charles was having an issue at all?
23:10Or was it, did they tell you that the pace was...
23:12Well, I saw how slow he was.
23:13I presume something was not right.
23:16The only thing we can think of is they were running the car too low to the ground and they
23:21had to increase the tyre pressures for the last stint because they were using an engine
23:26mode that was making the engine slower at the end of the straight, which is where you
23:30have the most amount of plank wear.
23:32So, I mean, he said to me just now it was a chassis, something with a chassis he wasn't aware of, but that's what...
23:38He's not going to tell you that they're close to being illegal.
23:41This is true.
23:42This is true.
23:43That's the only thing we can think of based upon the lap times and the engine mode they
23:46were running and stuff like that, but nevertheless, really pleased with the result.
23:51Strange weekend when you look at, if you exclude McLaren and you look at the order of sort of
23:57P3 to P13, it's quite odd.
24:01You know, you wouldn't expect Max to be so far down.
24:04Aston had an amazing weekend, so we'll take the positives and we won't get carried away
24:09with it.
24:10I mean, you capitalised on whatever was going on because you had a fantastic start.
24:13I mean, just talk us through that start because it was quite chaotic, but you saw an opportunity
24:17and you went for it.
24:18Yeah, for sure.
24:19It was a lot going on at the start and once I got past Lando, I kind of wanted to block him
24:25a little bit to let Alonso through because I knew Lando was going to be too quick, but that
24:30lasted for a lap and I was quite happy to keep Lando at bay for the first stint, but
24:37you know, those guys are just doing an amazing job right now.
24:40They're head and shoulders above everyone week in, week out.
24:44I don't think that's going to change much in the second half of the year because everybody's
24:47so focused on 26.
24:49So our goal is to be best of the rest.
24:52So at the end of the race, Toto came on the radio, great drive George, does that add
24:56a zero to the contract and will you sign it during this ever?
24:59But we've been told it's in your hands.
25:01I don't know how true that is, but, but, but, but does that help in negotiations?
25:07I mean, it's been tricky for you.
25:09There's been so much other talk going on, but you put in a performance like that.
25:13Yeah.
25:13I mean, I don't think today was anything sort of different to what I've shown my whole career.
25:19Really.
25:19Um, I know what I'm capable of.
25:22I got to be honest.
25:23I'm, I'm going straight on holiday tonight.
25:25I'm going to do 10 days off and then make him sweat.
25:28Uh, no, I mean, there's nothing, he's got nothing to be worried about.
25:31I've got nothing to be worried about and nothing's going to happen, happen over summer because
25:35honestly, I just want to have a rest and recharge and come back stronger for the second half
25:41of the year, but you know, there's no time pressure either way now.
25:44So it'll happen when it will happen.
25:46It's a when, not if.
25:47Yeah.
25:48It's a when, not if, um, you know, I'm 27 now.
25:52I've been with a team for four years.
25:53Next year would be my fifth.
25:54Uh, we want to build the relationship together, but it's got to be right.
25:58And I don't want to rush it.
26:00I've been waiting 12 months.
26:02I'm not going to just rush it in the course of two weeks.
26:05So we'll, we'll sit down when the time is right.
26:07Great job today.
26:08Have a good summer.
26:08Thank you.
26:09It's kind of the race I was expecting today before it started was that Russell was going
26:15to be fighting Leclerc, but one thing I didn't expect was Leclerc to be motoring off into
26:21the distance and even pulling away from the McLaren.
26:23So for me, that was the biggest surprise of today, uh, despite their pole position.
26:27I thought that was just a great lap by Charles, but he was showing that speed the whole time.
26:31Really interesting though, picking up what George Russell was saying about the possibility
26:35of what was going on chassis wise with, uh, with Leclerc and the Ferrari.
26:40So I just want to try to pick that apart here.
26:43And from straight away off the line, you see, I'm watching plank wear potential on the Ferrari.
26:49Watch for the sparks.
26:50Watch for the plank wear.
26:52Look at that dust coming up.
26:53Look at the sparks getting thrown up, even at moderately low speed before turn one.
26:58But let's fast forward this on through, uh, the slower speed stuff until we get onto the
27:02next straight.
27:03Cause I've seen a bit more here on the run up towards turn four.
27:06Well, actually what I might do just to help you at home is play this on in the magnifier.
27:13Yeah.
27:13Look at that.
27:14All the bumps going up towards four and sparking is a telltale sign that the car is very low.
27:20And it's something that's really hard for all of the teams to get right.
27:24Cause you want that for qualifying, but then you dump a whole load of fuel around a hundred
27:27kilos of fuel on this track.
27:29We'll go into it heavier, colder tires at the start of the race as well.
27:33And you can do a lot of damage to the plank wear.
27:35Uh, and if it's checked at the end of the race, well, George Russell knows full well himself,
27:39what can happen when you come to the final pit stop, of course, and they're worried about
27:44the car being too low and therefore the plank wear being too high.
27:47Then they comes in and this next set of tires going on, if they've boosted pressures inside
27:54those, that plays havoc with your grip.
27:58So it's a good, uh, it's a good case study, I think, and analysis from Mercedes and George
28:05himself.
28:06Funny how the teams look at each other and they've got all the data as well.
28:09They would see exactly what was going on with Leclerc's straight line speed.
28:12I even mentioned it standing in the pit lane, Sandra Crofty and Martin, how hard it was going
28:16to be for Leclerc to get overtaken because they've been quick all weekend down the straight.
28:21And it was, he was like a sitting duck, wasn't he?
28:25And that was a real surprise to me is so that the other teams have seen the data.
28:28They've seen the straight line speed drop through the race because at maximum speed, you're
28:32doing most downforce and the biggest damage to the plank.
28:35So that set of tires that went on could have had a lot more unwanted pressure and they overheat
28:41much quicker and there goes your grip.
28:45It's a good assessment.
28:46So, uh, I'll throw it back to you, Nat.
28:48Thank you, Ant.
28:49So was this a preventative measure to avoid disqualification on Ferrari's part?
28:53Yeah.
28:54So interesting that George said it in the pen, but I think one of those, it is a preventative
28:58measure.
28:59So there's two things George mentioned.
29:01We've obviously picked up on the tire pressure.
29:02As Ant said, raising tire pressure raises the ride height.
29:06So that's why you get less plank where it's very, very small, but in these cars, millimetres
29:10are making the difference.
29:11So that is a preventative measure.
29:13That's a way of preventing the plank hitting so much.
29:17Why they do it on the later tires is because they can see how much the plank is contacted
29:22in the earlier stints.
29:23And they can take the pace on the earlier stints, but maybe not for the whole race.
29:28Interesting though, on the lighter car, the problem should be getting less and less and
29:31less.
29:32The other thing that George mentioned was maybe they've turned down the engines a bit.
29:36So the end of straight, the car is not so fast.
29:39And if the car is not so fast at the end of straight, basically you take off downforce
29:44and the rear of the car will lift up a little bit.
29:47So both methods would prevent the plank being as in contact with the ground.
29:53So the straight line speed is easy to spot on GPS for any team.
29:57And it'll be a control system they've done on the car.
30:00The tire pressure, much more difficult for a team to spot.
30:03You don't get that data from other teams.
30:05Pirelli will get it.
30:06The FIA will get it.
30:07But other teams, no.
30:08It'll be interesting to see how it progresses going forward.
30:11Ferrari will not have wanted that information to be given away in either direction.
30:17But we know they have suffered with plank wear earlier this year.
30:20So it's not surprising that it's plank wear.
30:22It's surprising that the two methods are being so openly discussed here now.
30:25And the ultimate impact of it, of course, that Charles Leclerc finished in fourth.
30:28Pick up on just one point that George made about his contract.
30:32Maybe the whole Max Verstappen to Mercedes thing was just a storm in a teacup.
30:36Potentially.
30:37I mean, I quite enjoyed it because I think it brought so much interest to the sport.
30:40I think everyone was talking about it.
30:42I think we like to see this driver market move.
30:44I know we call it silly season, but when you look at the top 20 drivers in the world,
30:48it's not really that silly that they were all looking elsewhere.
30:50So it'll be interesting to see how it kind of finalizes.
30:54I feel like he's performing at his best.
30:57So hopefully a contract will come soon for him.
31:00Absolutely.
31:01So, yes, he was on the podium alongside the two McLaren drivers.
31:04Lando Norris on the top step.
31:07Pure delight for him going into the summer break.
31:10And McLaren's 13th Hungara Ring victory.
31:13Six more than any other constructor.
31:16Lando has now closed the gap to his teammate to nine points.
31:33Welcome to the Dutch Grand Prix.
31:35This is the house that Max rebuilt.
31:38Welcome to Zandvoort.
31:39It's a poor start for Lando Norris.
31:41And Max Verstappen takes the lead.
31:43What a great circuit.
31:45This is an old school race track.
31:47It's the ultimate challenge.
31:48It makes a noise for Max Verstappen.
31:52It is a stunning venue.
31:54This is the Dutch Grand Prix.
31:56Lando Norris wins with a crushing performance.
32:00It was unbelievable.
32:01Let's keep pushing.
32:09Woo!
32:10Come on!
32:11You lose control if you want to.
32:12No, no, no, no, no.
32:13You can do whatever you want to.
32:14You can do whatever you want to.
32:16Over the tracks.
32:18Money on that.
32:19You sleep on that.
32:20You run away and turn up crazy.
32:22You can do whatever you want to.
32:24Let's go.
32:25Let's go.
32:26Let's go.

32:28Let's go.
32:29No go crazy.
32:30Let's go.
32:31No go.
32:32No go.

38:40Martin go ahead of Sauber, they were
38:42eighth, they're now sixth
38:44going into the summer break, so a great day
38:46for them
38:47Okay, so a tough
38:51day for Max Verstappen
38:53he finished P9
38:55let's hear
38:57from him now
38:58Hi Max
39:04I'm going to start because we were waiting for you
39:07if your take on why you were called
39:09to the stewards, what's your take on it?
39:10I think no one was really sure if we
39:13touched or not going into the corner, but we didn't
39:15touch, I mean now it's up to
39:17the stewards
39:17what they think of that
39:20from my side of course it was a very difficult weekend
39:22and the race was the same, just a very
39:25low grip and there was not much
39:27that we could make out of it
39:28On the radio at the end it was
39:30we're going to look into this and you said yeah I'll have a look at it
39:33how much do you get involved
39:35and what sort of things can you help the team with?
39:37It's a fully open discussion between everyone
39:40And so can you, I mean you ask for what you want more of and they say what they can do
39:46or how does it work just for people to understand?
39:47There are always a few ideas that you look into but of course I cannot go into detail
39:51No that's fine, but in terms of I guess you're looking at balance, you're looking at all sorts of things
39:55because a lot gets talked about this car being designed for you
39:58and then it comes out that actually it's quite tricky to drive
40:00you can handle it because of your skills
40:03whereas that's where others find it more difficult
40:05Would that be fair?
40:06Designed for me, I don't think that's true
40:09Yeah, I'm saying we understand now it's not designed for you
40:11it's a very tricky car that only you can drive
40:13because of your talent and your skill
40:14It's very complicated to explain
40:18because I mean
40:18this weekend is just, yeah nothing worked
40:21unfortunately
40:22and I think in Spa we had a much more competitive weekend
40:25now I know we're not on the level of McLaren
40:27but they're also doing of course a really good job this year
40:30but this is a bit, yeah, a bit weird for us
40:35and that's something that we just need to investigate
40:36Okay, have a good summer, thanks Max
40:38Take care
40:39So yeah, as he touched on he won the sprint in Spa
40:42but he hasn't finished on the podium in the last four Grand Prix
40:45and finished a full minute and 12 seconds behind the race winner
40:50I mean it's frustrating times
40:51he's robust, he's resilient
40:53he'll work hard, he'll gather the team around him no doubt
40:56but there's a lot of work to do at Red Bull, isn't there?
40:59Absolutely
40:59I think one thing I do like about Max
41:02is I don't think he'll ever doubt his own ability
41:03I think he's in a position where he just knows it's the car
41:06and he knows that he's not able to get results
41:09He excited me quite a lot in that race
41:10He's doing some really nice moves into turn six
41:12a bit over the limit I think with Lewis in the end
41:14up into turn four
41:16but I think they need to really look at the drawing board
41:20because if he's saying that he doesn't even think
41:23they're going to get a race win for the rest of the year
41:24it's a long year and that's going to really be tough on the whole Red Bull team
41:28Okay, well Bernie's old team Aston Martin had a great day today, didn't they?
41:31Let's hear from Fernando Alonso now
41:33who finished P5
41:3444? I mean, who cares, right?
41:42Yeah, so far the best result of the season
41:44for myself and also for the team
41:4616 points, very important
41:49at this part of the championship
41:50and before the summer break
41:51so yeah, it's good to go
41:53with a smile into the break for everybody
41:56How pleased are you though?
41:57Because I know the team have been working hard
41:59it's been really tough for you two
42:00they've kept trying to bring parts
42:01but for everyone to have that lift
42:03of a P5 and a P7 for Lance
42:05going into the break
42:06knowing that work's worth it
42:07Yeah, yeah, yeah
42:08definitely
42:09I'm super happy
42:10I'm proud of the team
42:11you know, with all the new parts
42:12that we have this last push
42:15you know, into the 2025 car
42:17and it seems that they delivered
42:18what we were expecting
42:19and obviously the track also was
42:21a little bit friendly to us
42:23that's in all the circuits
42:24but yeah
42:25you know, we take one at a time
42:27and today I think we executed
42:29a good weekend
42:29You say the track was kind to you
42:31so for the rest of the season
42:33is it going to be peaks and troughs
42:34for you again
42:35or do you think you can get
42:36a consistent level?
42:36I think so
42:36I think it's going to be up and down
42:38for everybody
42:38you know, we saw
42:39the best example
42:40I think are the last two races
42:42you know, how teams seem to
42:45you know, deliver
42:46and perform very differently
42:49from track to track
42:50and I think it's going to be the same
42:52for the rest of the season
42:53but we need to minimize the losses
42:56when we are underperforming
42:57and we need to maximize
42:58like today
42:59the good tracks
43:00Thank you, well done
43:01Well, it's not just a good track
43:04for Aston Martin
43:04it's a great one
43:05for him specifically
43:06scored points in 13
43:08of the last 14 Hungarian Grand Prix
43:10I mean, what a spring in their step
43:12going into the summer break
43:13and by the way
43:14you were absolutely on brand
43:15right there
43:15with your Aston Martin
43:16no bias here, please
43:18No bias
43:19I was actually
43:20before we interviewed
43:21Zach Brown
43:21after the podium
43:22Zach was asking me
43:23why green and why not orange
43:24so I'm going to have to
43:25balance that at some point
43:27Well, if you wear papaya in Holland
43:29you're going to blend in well
43:30Yeah, that's it
43:30I will blend in well
43:31I won't be a Max fan as well
43:32Yeah, no bias here
43:35let's start with that
43:36but it is great to see that team
43:38doing so well
43:38they've had a really, really tough year
43:40I think people underestimate
43:42the teams that are at the back of the grade
43:44and not scoring points
43:45and week in, week out
43:46working as hard as other teams
43:48it becomes really, really relentless
43:50to not get that performance
43:52and they've seemed a bit lost
43:54I think is fair to say
43:55on where the car performance has gone
43:57you know, this week
43:58they've brought a new front wing
43:59that's all that we've been told about
44:01one new component
44:02you know, it's a big component
44:03but one new component
44:04and it seems to have revolutionised
44:06the car
44:07it's a very different circuit
44:08to Spa, for sure
44:09much higher downforce
44:11but we've been to high downforce tracks
44:13this year
44:13we've not seen that sort of performance
44:15that we've seen from them
44:16this weekend
44:16consistently all weekend
44:18so they've got to be buoyed
44:20that whatever they have changed
44:21on the specifics of that front wing
44:23has worked
44:24and that's a good correlation point
44:27for their wind tunnel
44:28for their fluid dynamics
44:30back at the factory
44:31for the simulator
