00:00As an interactive medium, video games are truly like no other art form, with developers able to
00:05reward active players who dig deep and attempt to experience every last thing that they include
00:09in their game. Easter eggs are an absolute joy in gaming, that allow devs to tip the hat to
00:15curious and inquisitive players who venture off the beaten path by showing them something that
00:19players just sticking to the critical route wouldn't ever see. But not all easter eggs are
00:23created equal, and in the case of some, they're still waiting to be fully unveiled. So let's take
00:29a look at them, as I'm Jules, this is WhatCulture.com, and these are 10 video game easter eggs that are
00:33still undiscovered. 10. The Live Sega Chant – Sonic Mania
00:38Now, Sonic Mania was first announced at Sega's 25th anniversary event for Sonic during San Diego Comic
00:44Con. And during the show, Sonic Team producer Takashi Iazuka even had the live crowd record
00:49a rendition of the iconic SEGA jingle to be included in the game as an easter egg. Now,
00:55there are two takes from the crowd that were recorded for safety, and yet, more than
00:58six years removed from Sonic Mania's acclaimed release, the Live Sega Chant still hasn't
01:03been found. While players might have expected to hear it in the game's opening screen or
01:07perhaps during the end credits, it's present in neither case. Players have extensively trawled
01:12through Sonic Mania in an attempt to unlock the jingle, and even datamined it to no avail,
01:17leaving fans to wonder quite how to trigger it. Others have speculated that the easter egg
01:20may have been cut during development due to the sound quality being too poor, yet to date,
01:24there's still no concrete word from anyone involved with the game on it.
01:289. The 15th Wish
01:30Destiny 2
01:31The Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion included a new raid mission called Last Wish, which contained
01:37a puzzle room where players could enter a sequence of symbols in order to solve a series of wishes.
01:42Now, to date, 14 wishes have been found, but the 15th remains a pure mystery. Fans have racked
01:47their brains for the better part of five years trying to crack this code and get to the bottom of the
01:5215th wish, with even some surmising that the Last Wish raid itself is the 15th wish, given its name
01:58and all. Despite this theory gaining substantial traction in recent years, Bungie still hasn't
02:02confirmed the truth one way or another, perhaps suggesting that it's nothing more than, wait for
02:07it, wishful thinking.
02:088. The 2113 Box
02:13Trials Evolution
02:15Trials Evolution plays host to one of the greatest video game easter eggs, which while still ultimately
02:20unresolved led players on one hell of a wild goose chase. You see, shortly after the game's 2012
02:25release, players discovered that a series of planks throughout the physics-based platformer
02:29spelled out a cipher, which told players to perform a specific move on the bike, which in turn unlocked
02:34a hidden song that contained a secret piece of Morse code. The code took players to a website with a
02:40series of image ciphers and an equation, the answer to which unlocked a set of coordinates located in
02:45four cities, Helsinki, Sydney, Bath, and San Francisco. Fans around the globe teamed up to
02:51visit the coordinates, and in each case a chest containing a key was found alongside a plaque.
02:56The back of each plaque read, Midday in the year 2113, the first Saturday in August,
03:02one of the five keys will open the box underneath the Eiffel Tower. To be clear, developer Red Lynx has
03:08arranged for one of the four keys, the fifth one being a digital key unlocked in the game,
03:12Trials Fusion, underneath the Eiffel Tower 101 years after the game's release. Incredibly,
03:17everyone involved in the easter egg's creation, and anyone who had discovered one of the keys will
03:21surely be long dead by 2113, ensuring only future generations have any chance at all
03:26of learning what's inside that chest. 7. Todd Howard's Terminal Secret
03:31Fallout 4 At DICE 2016, shortly after Fallout 4's release,
03:35game director Todd Howard revealed that there was still undiscovered easter eggs hidden in one of
03:39the game's many computer terminals. Bethesda's VP of publishing, Pete Hines,
03:43eventually tweeted in 2018 that he knew some players had stumbled across the secret on social
03:47media, yet hadn't put two and two together and realised that it was the easter egg. In the years
03:52that followed, players continued trying to make sense of it, even activating noclip and literally
03:56teleporting inside each terminal to see if anything was cheekily hidden in there. But alas, nada.
04:01In 2020, popular YouTuber JuiceHead claimed that the secret would reveal that the player was
04:06actually a synth all along, yet despite their passionate delivery, this was still just a
04:11theory without any cold, hard evidence. Almost eight years removed from Fallout 4's release,
04:15with Bethesda's latest AAA behemoth, Starfield now out in the wild, were seemingly no closer
04:20to figuring out what that damn terminal secret was. 6. The Aloha Ice Jam Shortcut
04:25SSX Tricky Back in 2014, a Redditor by the name of
04:29user tbtsynchro claimed to have worked on the hit 2001 snowboarding game SSX Tricky as a level designer,
04:37and revealed that the Aloha Ice Jam track had a secret shortcut which hadn't yet been discovered.
04:42The designer couldn't specifically remember how to trigger the shortcut, but knew that it involved
04:45grinding an invisible wall. This in turn energised SSX enthusiasts to hammer the track in search of the
04:51hidden trigger. But after eight years of searching and even a comprehensive data mine, it still hasn't
04:56been found. Those spearheading the data mining efforts considered their attempts exhausted,
05:01leading them to speculate that the shortcut could have been removed from the game during
05:04development. The designer themselves entertained the idea that it had actually been cut, though
05:08wasn't completely convinced either. All the same, without another person who worked on the game
05:12piping up and putting everyone out of their misery, this easter egg seems destined to remain
05:16unsolved forevermore. 5. The Startup Easter Egg
05:20The Original Xbox In 2021, an anonymous developer
05:23who worked on the original Xbox console revealed an easter egg that was hidden in the Xbox's own
05:28dashboard. By ripping a music CD to the console and renaming the CD's title to Timmy with a lot of
05:34wise, players would unlock a secret credit screen for the members of the Xbox dashboard team. This was
05:39initially assumed to be the last of several secrets discovered on the Xbox over the years,
05:43but the console's designer, Seamus Blackley, subsequently tweeted that another undiscovered
05:47easter egg was still waiting to be found. Blackley wouldn't give much away about the secret,
05:51though did reveal that it related to the console's boot animation, but curiously didn't require the
05:55player to perform any controller inputs whatsoever. Though Blackley is clearly relishing how thoroughly
06:00his responses have dumbfounded, inquisitive players, this at least feels like one secret which might
06:05actually get solved one day, especially given how active Blackley is on social media. Well,
06:09here's hoping at least.
06:104. The Endless Mode Mystery – Mega Man 9
06:14Shortly after Mega Man 9's release in 2008, Capcom's then-community manager, Seth Killian,
06:19posted on the company's forums that the game contained a secret which hadn't yet been found.
06:24This prompted the series' passionate fans to tear the game apart looking for this elusive secret,
06:28and though they did find a number of them, none were the specific one that Killian was cryptically
06:33referring to. Capcom later gave fans a hint by revealing that the easter egg could be found in
06:37Mega Man 9's Endless Attack Mode, with comments from Capcom employees suggesting that it involved
06:42getting far enough in this mode to trigger, well, something. Yet, in the years that followed,
06:46the trail ran cold, and with data mining also bringing up no fruitful leads, some fans accused
06:51Killian of fabricating a mystery to simply keep people talking about the game. In an interview shortly
06:56before Killian left Capcom, though, he insisted that the secret was real and would be confirmed if
07:01any player ever discovered it. Almost 15 years later, with no promising leads, though,
07:05most fans seem to have basically given up. 3. The Super Secret Easter Egg
07:10Amplitude The reboot of legendary rhythm
07:12action game Amplitude was released in 2016, but more than three years later in August 2019,
07:18the game's official Twitter account asked a player who platinumed it whether they'd found
07:21the super secret easter egg yet. When the player responded in the negative and asked if Amplitude
07:26players had reported finding said easter egg, the account replied that it was still undiscovered.
07:31Harmonix did give players a message of encouragement in 2020, though, claiming that they seemed to be
07:36on the right track to finding it, yet refused to elaborate for fear of fully spoiling the solution.
07:40In the three years since, a small but dedicated collection of fans have continued to comb their
07:44way through Amplitude in a desperate pursuit of this easter egg, yet it remains unknown to this
07:49very day. With the game's Twitter account having gone entirely radio silent in recent years,
07:53it sadly doesn't seem terribly likely that this mystery will ever be sewn up. 2. FF06B5
08:00Cyberpunk 2077
08:02Unlike the vast majority of the easter eggs on this list, Cyberpunk 2077's big undiscovered secret
08:08even has its own damn subreddit, which is a testament to how pervasely it has provoked,
08:12fascinated and tortured the game's avid fanbase. On Union Street in the Corpo Plaza, players might
08:18notice a string of letters and numbers displayed on a robotic statue, FF06B5, which is being worshipped
08:24at all times by a group of monks. Even after data mining the game and scanning through every single
08:29piece of text that players can interact with, the sequence seemingly related to nothing.
08:33The game's quest designer, Poel Sasko, later commented that players were indeed on the trail
08:37of a secret, though refrained from elaborating on it for fear of giving it away. Players have creatively
08:42attempted to link the sequence to basically everything imaginable, from in-game coordinates to classical
08:46music, but to date have only come up empty handed. Though the recent next-gen update for The Witcher
08:513 did include a new secret which had some connections to FF06B5, it seemingly hasn't gotten
08:57fans any closer to figuring out what it actually means. 1. The Mount Chiliad Mystery
09:02Grand Theft Auto V
09:04And finally we come to what is surely the most agonising unsolved mystery in the history of
09:08video games, Grand Theft Auto V's Mount Chiliad. And much like Cyberpunk's easter egg,
09:12Mount Chiliad even has its own very active subreddit. And as for the mystery itself,
09:16players who reach the cable car station atop the mountain will find a bizarre distinctive mural
09:21on the wall, a map of Mount Chiliad filled with strange symbols of a UFO, a cracked egg,
09:26and a man wearing a jetpack, while a large eye-like object is mounted at the very top of the mountain.
09:31Ever since the mural was discovered shortly after the game's 2013 release,
09:35fans have agonised over its true meaning and what figuring it out could possibly reveal.
09:39Some have rather optimistically theorised that it might unlock a demo for Grand Theft Auto
09:436 one day, while others simply believe it outlines the conditions for achieving 100%
09:48completion. Doing so will cause UFOs to appear over Mount Chiliad. And yet,
09:52the theories are myriad enough that there's no real consensus on what the mural relates to.
09:56It's absolutely worth considering that Rockstar might have included the easter egg simply to
10:00troll players, and it may be nothing more than a piece of weird art, or it may even relate to
10:04cut content from the final game. Needless to say, it'll be interesting to see whether or not
10:08GTA 6 can rustle up a mystery this singularly compelling when it eventually releases, which
10:12will be some day. And there we go my friends, those were 10 video game easter eggs that are
10:16still undiscovered. Hope you enjoyed that, and let me know what you thought about it down in the
10:20comments section below. As always I've been Jules, you can go follow me over on the social
10:23medias where it's at RetroJ, but the O is a zero for most things, and I hope that you go over to
10:28the Future Games Show or FGS to go check out my other daily gaming content. Hope to see you over there.
10:33But before I go, I just want to say one thing, I hope you're treating yourself well my friend,
10:36with love and respect, because you deserve the bloody best things in life, alright? And do not
10:40let anything or anyone else tell you otherwise. You are a massive ledge, and I will speak to you soon.
