The Edge of Seventeen is a coming-of-age comedy-drama film that follows Nadine Franklin, a 17-year-old high school student struggling to cope with her father's death and her complex relationships with her family and friends. When her best friend, Krista, starts dating her older brother, Darian, Nadine's life becomes even more unbearable. She navigates her relationships with her brother, her mother, and her classmates, including Erwin Kim, a kind and talented animation filmmaker who harbors feelings for her. With the help of her world-weary teacher, Mr. Bruner, Nadine learns to confront her insecurities and find her place in the world.
