00:01The Mets start a six-game homestand with the first of three against the San Francisco Giants.
00:06The trading deadline was yesterday, and the Mets made some very big moves to shore up what they felt was a need for them.
00:14They got Ryan Helsley and Tyler Rogers to go with Gregory Soto quite earlier in the week to shore up the bullpen,
00:21and they picked up Cedric Mullins to help them out in center field.
00:25David Peterson heading out to the mound when he has taken the mound at home this year.
00:30The Mets are 10-0.
00:32Only one Mets pitcher has ever had a longer streak from the start of the season.
00:36That was David Cohn.
00:37The Mets won his first 11 home starts in 1989.
00:41The Giants' leadoff batter is Elliot Ramos.
00:45Swing and a mess, and Peterson with a four-seamer strikes out Ramos for the first out of the night.
00:50So, starting him out with a 90-mile-an-hour fastball, finishing him off,
00:55three ticks higher, and with one man away, it'll bring up Raphael Devers.
01:00That's a swing and a miss, and he got him with a changeup.
01:03Back-to-back strikeouts for Peterson to start his night.
01:07So, two up, two down.
01:09It'll bring up Willie Adamas.
01:11Peterson's 1-1.
01:12Reached four, hit in the air to left field.
01:14Fairly deep.
01:15Back goes Nimmo with a play in front of the track.
01:17Makes the one-hand catch.
01:19Side retired.
01:20Peterson gets the Giants in order.
01:22It's Robbie Ray on the mound to make the start.
01:24And for Robbie Ray, 9-5 with a 2-9-3.
01:27129 innings, 134 strikeouts.
01:3052 walks, 15 home runs.
01:32He's got the big strikeout stuff.
01:33Big four-seam.
01:34Plays really well with his slider.
01:36Now, Robbie Ray, former Cy Young Award winner, left-hander facing Brandon Nimmo.
01:40Left-hand batter for the Mets.
01:42Swing and a miss.
01:43He struck him out with the curveball.
01:45Well, he makes you aware with the high fastball, and then he tunnels that slider curveball right
01:51off that high fastball.
01:54That's ball.
01:54Ball four.
01:55Real close, but call the ball.
01:57Chapman's got to walk.
01:59I mean, look at Wilmer Flores.
02:00He's always a guy who hit lefties.
02:01He's in 2-40 against lefties.
02:03It's a nice hand for the Mets faithful.
02:05Wilmer will always be below here.
02:08Wilmer swings and lines one in the right center field.
02:10That gets down for a hit.
02:12Around second, going for third.
02:14Chapman, the big turn at first by Wilmer, and he'll hold on there.
02:18But the Giants, with a walk and a hit, they've got first and third, nobody out.
02:22So now Casey Schmidt, good opportunity here for the Giants.
02:26And Peterson pitches.
02:27Swing, line drive down the left field line.
02:28That's in there.
02:29Base hit.
02:30It will roll through quickly into the left field corner.
02:32Chapman into score.
02:34Flores heading for third and into second with a stand-up double.
02:37Casey Schmidt, one to nothing, Giants.
02:41Here's John Hooley, the center fielder, on the ground, to short.
02:47And that'll get the run home.
02:48Ledore throws out Lee.
02:50Flores scores.
02:51Schmidt does have to hold, but still, John Hooley makes it 2-0.
02:55The Mets swept the series in San Francisco last weekend.
02:58The Giants never had a hit with a runner in scoring position.
03:01They've already had one today.
03:03He's got two in the top of this second inning.
03:05Pete Alonzo, a powerful right-handed hitter, leads off.
03:09Alonzo strikes out swinging on the high fastball.
03:13One kind of exploded on Pete Alonzo.
03:16Robbie's been tougher to hit away from home.
03:19Now there is strike three called at the knees
03:22with a slider at 87 miles an hour.
03:26That's their first baserunner of the night.
03:28As McNeil is aboard, one out in this third inning,
03:30and Tyrone Taylor coming up.
03:32Here's the pitch, swing and a hard smash up the middle,
03:35far to his left, who loved the ball.
03:37Adamas to second for one, and Schmidt the first to a double play.
03:43Wow.
03:44What a play on a ball that looked like a sure base hit to center.
03:49Instead, inning-ending, double play.
03:52Two down, runner at first, the pitch.
03:55Swing and a hard smash up the middle, base hit into center field.
03:59On an 0-2 count, he shot one right over the middle.
04:04Two on, two out for the Giants,
04:06with their ninth-place hitter, the catcher Patrick Bailey coming up.
04:10So a big batter here for Peterson, already down in the game, 2-0.
04:12Two out and two on for Bailey.
04:15Hit high in the air to left field, but playable for Nimmo,
04:18who stops deep in left, steps forward and makes the catch.
04:22Peterson is out of the fourth inning.
04:24That's still looking for their first hit against Robbie Ray.
04:27They've had only one baserunner.
04:28McNeil walked in the third.
04:29He was erased on a double play.
04:31Now Soto with two out and nobody on.
04:33And Soto takes one inside.
04:36Did it hit him?
04:37Yep.
04:37He was on the plate enough to get hit by the pitch.
04:39It looked like he was going to miss inside anyway,
04:41but you worry about if it did hit Soto in the hand.
04:44And, no, it got him on the elbow.
04:46Well, Soto's on base.
04:48Question is, is he okay?
04:50He's going to stay in the game.
04:51Pete struck out his first time up.
04:54Swing and a miss.
04:54He struck it out on the same pitch again.
04:56A high fastball away.
04:58Mark on a nine-game hitting streak has grounded to short.
05:01So, the Mets offensively crickets.
05:04The 0-1.
05:05Breaking ball looped over second base at center field.
05:09The Mets have their first hit of the game.
05:10And Mark Vientos, who holds on at first,
05:13now has a ten-game hitting streak.
05:15Here's Luis Terrens, who took a call third strike his first time up.
05:20Gets a curveball and hits it up the middle for a base hit.
05:23Vientos scurries into second.
05:25And the Mets up the tying runs on base.
05:28And now Tyrone Taylor, who is starving for a hit, will be next.
05:33He is 0 for his last 16, but he hit a hard ground ball up the middle his last time up.
05:40That one not hit very hard.
05:42Chapman cuts in front of Adames.
05:45A good stretch by Devers to get the out.
05:48Two hits, two left.
05:49No runs.
05:50Two nothing.
05:51Ryan Stanek will come out of the Mets bullpen.
05:54Jung-Koo-Li leads off.
05:55Now he pulls out one fair inside the bag at first.
05:59It hits up against the sidewall.
06:01Lee is going to speed into second.
06:03And he's got a leadoff double.
06:05Jung-Koo-Li into second base.
06:08In the scoring position, his 23rd double of the year.
06:11So now Bailey, runner still at second.
06:13Swing, a line drive into right field.
06:15Base hit.
06:17Headed down into the corner in right field.
06:19It will roll to the wall.
06:20Coming around third is Lee to score.
06:22It's a stand-up double for Patrick Bailey.
06:26And the Giants have a 3-0 lead.
06:28We go to the bottom of the seventh at Citi Field.
06:30Mets down 3-0.
06:32I just feel like the Mets need a spark.
06:35Pete Alonzo leads off.
06:37Alonzo throws one to deep right center field.
06:40Lee watches this one go out of here.
06:42Pete Alonzo gets the Mets on the board with career home run number 249.
06:47And his first home run since the Angels series.
06:51And number 249 lifetime for Pete.
06:55Strawberry minus 3.
06:57Three more to tie Darryl Strawberry's all-time Mets franchise home run record.
07:03Giants 3, Mets 1.
07:04The pitch from Robbie Ray.
07:05Swing and a pop-up.
07:07The first base side foul ground.
07:09Up the line goes Bailey.
07:11And he almost overruns it.
07:13That's why I think there is some wind on that side and then he abruptly stops and then Bailey kind of bent over backwards as he caught it.
07:22He fell over on his backside ends up being an outstanding play.
07:26Here comes Wilmer Flores now.
07:28Wilmer has singled a right center and scored a run.
07:31He has walked and then he hit a fly ball to right.
07:33This one a dribbler.
07:35Can he beat it out?
07:37He can.
07:38And it's an infield hit for Wilmer Flores.
07:41Looking a little gingerly after that.
07:44Taking the helmet off.
07:45It's a little bit scary.
07:47Meanwhile, Wilmer is looking as if he might have injured himself racing up that first baseline.
07:55So Wilmer gets the infield a hit.
07:57But he hurt himself doing it.
08:00We'll bring in Christian Koss to run for him.
08:03Koss was just activated off the injured list today.
08:06Coming off a hamstring injury.
08:072-2 to Lee.
08:09Swing and a little chopper up the first baseline.
08:11Hugging the grass.
08:12It comes right to Alonzo who steps on the bag.
08:15Side retires.
08:16The Mets will get the tying run to bat in the eighth inning.
08:19One-out walk to Nimmo.
08:21And Lindor will come to the plate against Lucchesis.
08:24Swing and a liner the other way.
08:25Base hit going into right field.
08:27Nimmo hits second.
08:28He'll put the brakes on there as it's fired in by Matos.
08:31And now the Mets have the tying runs aboard.
08:34Juan Soto.
08:35The potential go-ahead run comes to the plate.
08:39Soto bangs one off Lucchesis.
08:41It goes past Adamas.
08:43Here comes Nimmo to score.
08:45Lindor to third.
08:46Soto will stop at first.
08:47It's 3-2.
08:49And Pete Alonzo will bat.
08:51But not against Lucchesis.
08:53Here comes Bob Melvin.
08:54How about this?
08:55The former man, Jose Buto, will make his debut for the Giants against Pete Alonzo.
09:02Alonzo gets one of the air to center field.
09:04That'll get the run in.
09:05Lee is there.
09:07Lindor tags a third.
09:09Lindor comes down the line to score the tying run.
09:12And the Mets have gotten even in the eighth inning.
09:14Alonzo's second RBI of the night is 83rd of the year on the sacrifice fly to tie the game.
09:20Now Ronnie Mauricio bats for Starling Marte.
09:242-1.
09:24Soto heads for second.
09:25The pitch taken low.
09:27Throw to second by Bailey.
09:28Not nearly in time.
09:29Soto steals the bag standing.
09:32So, it's now three balls and one strike on Mauricio.
09:36And Soto is in scoring position.
09:39So, Mauricio, the switch hitter who batted left-handed, gets the walk.
09:43First base had been open.
09:45So, Soto at second.
09:47Mauricio at first.
09:49Brett Beatty is windmilling a bat.
09:51In the on-deck circle, Beatty will hit for Vientos.
09:55On the ground to Chapman, who's going to run to third, and he'll get there.
09:59So, Buteau, in the end, he did a good job.
10:02But now the Giants have to play tied going to the ninth.
10:05New reliever, new entrance music.
10:07Ryan Helsley comes into Hell's Bells, which for years was Trevor Hoffman's theme in San Diego.
10:13And the 0-2 coming, swung on and missed strike three.
10:16Good morning, good afternoon, and good night at 101 miles an hour.
10:23So, Patrick Bailey has his second head of the game.
10:26There's Elliot Ramos, who has a single and a walk tonight.
10:29Struck him out.
10:30Got him with the slider.
10:31Two men down.
10:32And that's the second out.
10:34And so, now, you talk about power against power.
10:37Here is Hellsley to face Raphael Devers.
10:40On the ground in the right field base hit.
10:42A hundred mile an hour fastball.
10:44And Devers was ready for this one.
10:47Game on the line here.
10:49Now, Adamus.
10:50The 0-2 coming.
10:51Struck him out.
10:53Got him with the slider in the dirt.
10:55Ryan Helsley strikes out three in his first inning as a net.
10:58Right now, Cedric Mullins has a chance to be a hero in his first at bat as a net.
11:04And Mullins pops it up right in front of the plate.
11:09Chapman comes in and almost runs over Bailey and makes the catch.
11:14And we're going to extra innings.
11:16And Edwin Diaz is on to pitch for the Mets after Ryan Helsley struck out three in the ninth in his Mets debut.
11:23Adamus is the automatic runner, so he starts at second.
11:27And 3-2 coming to Chapman on the ground.
11:31Now, that will get Adamus over.
11:32That's good base running by Adamus.
11:35The former Mets, Dom Smith, to get the left-on-right matchup against Diaz.
11:40Swing and a line drive up the middle.
11:42Into center field.
11:43Base hit.
11:44And the Giants go back ahead four to three.
11:47So they get their automatic runner home.
11:52Smith got it done right away.
11:54And for Randy Rodriguez, a look at the numbers of 1.2 OERA, 45 innings, 62 strikeouts, the nine walks.
12:01It's the four-seamer slider mix, high spin.
12:04And now it's your ball.
12:06It's your team.
12:07It's your role.
12:09Go get him young fella.
12:10Runner in second.
12:11Nobody out.
12:12Cedric Mullins.
12:15Nemo, Lindor, and Juan Soto.
12:17And then if you, if it's still going, Pete Alonzo after that, he pops it up on the infield.
12:25Casey Schmidt out number one.
12:29And now he gets hit by the pitch.
12:31And the Mets will have the tying and potential winning runs on base.
12:36With Soto coming up.
12:38Soto, that one popped up.
12:40Are they going to call the infield fly?
12:43At the last minute they did.
12:45Two down.
12:46And Alonzo checks his swing.
12:47He stopped it in time and the bases are loaded.
12:50So that pushes the winning run Lindor to second base.
12:53And brings up Ronnie Mauricio with a chance to win it.
12:57Ronnie Mauricio, the chance of having a hard time getting him out.
13:01He struck him out swinging 100 mile an hour fastball to finish off the game.
13:10And Randy Rodriguez and the Giants beat the Mets here in New York 4-3.
