00:00We've got Marcus Treskothic, cameras all good, yes? Excellent. Go ahead, please.
00:04Marcus, where's the balance of power line in this game after T-Day?
00:08It's pretty evenly poised, I would guess, at the moment.
00:11You know, plenty of wickets, obviously, in the course of today,
00:13but the game is moving forward pretty quickly.
00:17And who knows what tomorrow will bring?
00:19I think you'll see, you know, the pitch probably continuing to be lively
00:24and more sea movement as the day goes on.
00:26And who knows, whoever bowls well or whoever bats well from this sort of period,
00:31I think, will come out on top.
00:33But I think it's evenly matched at the moment.
00:35What was your assessment of having them batted?
00:37Obviously, you opened up the blocks, but then you can take back in that middle session.
00:42Yeah, again, we're trying to work out why.
00:44Is it the heavy role or is it the new ball that sort of skids on
00:47when it's at a good time to bat?
00:48You can see Jaiswell's come out tonight and played positively.
00:53And we'll see as it goes on.
00:55But, you know, I thought we played really nicely.
00:56I thought that opening partnership was great to watch.
00:59Obviously, the entertainment of it was superb.
01:02Very different in terms of the traditional style of test cricket.
01:05But the Indian bowlers fought back quite nicely and had good momentum.
01:10And we weren't able to really then carry on and sort of dominate
01:12in the fashion that we wanted to because we were just not getting partnerships together
01:16and we kept losing wickets.
01:17So it was quite tricky at that point.
01:19When you see three catches go down like we just had,
01:21is that a frustrating mini-session there?
01:23Oh, it's always, yeah, you're always frustrated when you miss opportunities, of course.
01:28You know, we pride ourselves on being very good in those sort of areas.
01:31So it just didn't happen.
01:33We all know how important they are and we all know how tough catches can be,
01:37especially in the slips.
01:37So I'm disappointed, but, you know, it is what it is.
01:42And just a word for Chris Wokes, he's out of this game.
01:44Sounds like he's facing a decent period on the sidelines.
01:48Potentially, yeah.
01:48I think, you know, I don't know at this stage.
01:51I think more scans will be needed, more specialist opinions.
01:54As with all these major sort of injuries as what, you know, potentially what it might be,
01:59it's like who knows what, you know, how it lies ahead.
02:03But, you know, specialists will work that out and they'll, you know, plan accordingly.
02:07We'll go Paul and Matt, please.
02:08Marcus, there was a little bit of a bad feeling out there again today.
02:11Can I ask you about a couple of the incidents?
02:13Firstly, we've rarely seen Joe as angry as that when Krishna said something to him.
02:19Do you know what was said there?
02:20Oh, it was nothing that you wouldn't hear on a normal sort of game day or anything like that.
02:27I think just Joe reacted potentially differently than what you've seen him before.
02:32Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't.
02:35But it was nothing, nothing serious to worry about, no.
02:38And the other one was it was quite unusual to see a bowler putting his arm around a batsman after dismissing him.
02:43I think the camera's panned to you sort of jokingly saying you'd give him the elbow.
02:47I was just saying that many in my time, a lot of players would have just dropped the elbow on him or something quite different.
02:54But, yeah, of course, I don't think I've ever seen a bowler do that after getting someone out.
02:59You see him obviously have many words and we've seen it within the series on both sides.
03:04But it was just different, wasn't it?
03:05And I was just laughing and joking about it.
03:06But, yeah, not more else to say there.
03:10Do you think Ben did well to not react in any way in that situation?
03:12Yeah, of course.
03:15I think, as again, we've already seen it in the series, that Ben's, you know, he doesn't really do a great deal.
03:21And I'm sure there'll be occasions in the future to come where he may well do.
03:25But this time around, it is what it is, isn't it?
03:27He, you know, put your head down and walk off.
03:30Your job is done at that point.
03:32There's probably no need to sort of walk him off in that fashion.
03:35But, you know, the game has been fought in good spirits, although, you know, there's been many words and arguments across the way.
03:44I think two teams are still getting on well enough and will continue to do so once the game is done.
03:51Mark, it's obviously been a long, tough series.
03:54Do you think that's sort of played into the drop catches towards the end of the day, maybe concentration and just hardness?
03:59No, I don't think that'll be anything to do with it.
04:01I think that's just, that happens over the course of some days, some games.
04:06It's just the game as we see it.
04:10Any more questions?
04:12Yeah, go on, Mike, and then we'll go to the podium.
04:14Look forward to this one.
04:17You've got a double hundred here 22 years ago.
04:20You're dead right, you will like it.
04:22On the day when Thorpey made a comeback and got a tremendous hundred as well,
04:27today's been a great day for Thorpey.
04:29Lots of people wearing white Thorpe headbands and Root wearing one at first slip all day.
04:35He's obviously still held in very high regard in your dressing room, isn't he?
04:40And do you think he would have enjoyed his view from the celestial dressing upstairs
04:44that the entertainment served up today?
04:47Well, for sure.
04:49Yeah, it's still deeply missed and massively highly regarded in our changing room
04:53by so many that he would have coached, a few of us that played with him,
05:00and many of the youngsters who would have watched him on TV.
05:04A sad day, of course it is, obviously, but it's still nice to look back on his amazing time,
05:10his amazing career, and see how much he's touched this club in Surrey
05:14and also England cricket itself.
05:16So, hopefully it's been a nice day for the family
05:18and everybody that's sort of helped him or supported him along the way.
05:23Coach, of course, Ben Stokes was asked the same question a couple of days back
05:30about injury replacements.
05:32Do you align with the same idea that, you know, this conversation should stop
05:36or in case of a clear-cut injury like what happened to Chris Vokes
05:40or Shoaib Bashir in the Lord's test or Rishabh Pant in Old Trafford,
05:44should there be a consideration that in case of a fractured bone or a dislocation
05:49there should be an injury replacement?
05:51That's a good question, and I know there's been lots of media around it,
05:56but I think we tinker too much with the game
05:59and we've got so many opportunities in different areas.
06:02Test matches is test matches, and I think, you know,
06:04you don't really need to adjust too much.
06:07I think we're, you know, it's starting to grow, I like to think,
06:11you know, and we're producing some good cricket around the world
06:13in every test-playing nation.
06:15I don't think we should try and mess with it too much.
06:18The rules have been in place for many, many years.
06:21And they've done just fine in the past, so I wouldn't be changing anything at the moment.
06:26Last one, please.
06:27Coach, there has been some talks about the pitch in the previous games
06:31that it's more likely behaving like the subcontinent pitches.
06:34Could you please describe a bit more how you enjoyed this pitch
06:37being proper English conditions?
06:39Well, there's more life in it for a start.
06:43You know, there's more pace, there's more sea movement,
06:45and we're kind of at the extreme version of what we, you know,
06:50what we see in those type of pitches.
06:53But it's definitely, you know, kind of what we like.
06:55You know, we want pace on the ball, we want the ball to bounce,
06:58and we want the ball to carry through.
07:00So when we're batting, you know, we can be aggressive,
07:03we can attack, and we can put pressure back on bowlers.
07:07And when we're bowling, if we get opportunities and we catch the edge,
07:10hopefully it will carry through.
07:12You know, this pitch has been challenging, there's no doubt about it,
07:15with the rain around yesterday and the way that the pitch was prepared
07:18to obviously be a little bit greener.
07:19I think it's been, you know, at the top end of what you want it to be.
07:24But nonetheless, we're very happy at how it's performed so far.
07:27Okay. Cheers, Chris.
07:29Okay.
