Benvenuto, innanzitutto
00:45welcome, thank you for being here. Thank you for having me. Let's start from the first
00:51question. So, you came here in Rome because of two conferences about Iranian resistance.
01:03One at the Chamber of Deputies and the other at the Palazzo dei Congressi in Rome. So, my
01:07question is, what is the situation in Iran today? Well, first of all, thank you very much and
01:14it's a great pleasure to be here. I'm in Rome. I have been here for a few weeks with regards
01:21to the major, two major international conferences, as you mentioned, because in addition to very
01:27prominent Italian personalities, members of parliament and senators, you know, there were
01:34very high ranking figures like Charles Michel, the former President of the Council, European
01:41Council, as well as Linda Chavez, who was in charge of, under Reagan administration, she
01:46was in charge of the, you know, in the White House, the Bureau. And, well, the situation in
01:53Iran is very volatile at present. We all know that there are four major concerns regarding
01:58Iran. First is the appalling human rights situation, which is getting worse, especially after the
02:0412-day war between Iran and Israel. The regime, fearful of its opposition, they have
02:10intensified the crackdown on Iranian opponents. And there have been many executions under Masoud
02:18Pezeshgian, the so-called more liberal. They tried to portray him president. 1450 people
02:27have already been executed. And according to Amnesty International and Human Rights Organizations,
02:33the number of executions has at least doubled compared even with last year. Last year, the
02:39number of executions was incredible. In the past 30 years was the biggest number. So the
02:45first is the human rights situation. Two prominent political prisoners, members of the PMI, mainly
02:50Iranian opposition movement, were executed for their beliefs in the resistance on 27th of July. And 14 others are
03:03on a death row and they could be executed any minute. So the situation in that regard is very concerning.
03:15Second issue is the terrorism of the regime, which is getting worse internally. The Iranian dissidents
03:22as well as the foreign nationals are being targeted by the regime. Third is the meddling of the regime in
03:28and the affairs of other Middle East countries, Islamic countries, you know. And fourth is the weapons of
03:35mass destruction, nuclear issue, which everybody knows Iran is a big, you know, headache for the
03:43international community. So these are the four major concerns. But the reason these conferences are
03:50happening and the reason that the president-elect of the Iranian resistance, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, is in Rome.
03:56She was actually the keynote speaker yesterday and today she's going to be also the keynote speaker,
04:03speaking mainly about, you know, what is the viable solution vis-a-vis this situation. Because everybody
04:09knows that the regime is on a slippery slope toward its demise, you know. This regime is going to collapse.
04:18There is no doubt about that. In the near future, it's going to be overthrown. But what is important is
04:25how to deal with this regime and what is the solution with regards to this situation. So that is,
04:32just put it in a nutshell, this is the situation. So you were in your person persecuted by the regime,
04:40which even organized several attempts on your life. So my question is, what is the greatest fear for a regime
04:49like that? Well, I was, as you say, unfortunately, I have been witness and I have been with people who
04:57have been killed extrajudicially by this regime, have been assassinated in Rome. Here in Rome, in Italy,
05:04the representative of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Mohamed Hussein Nagvi, a former diplomat,
05:10former Iran's Sharjit Affair to Italy, who then joined the resistance, was assassinated in 1993 near his office
05:18in Rome. He was killed. And also Professor Kazem Rajavi, another ambassador, Iran's ambassador to the
05:26United Nations after the revolution. And then he joined the resistance movement. He was killed in Geneva,
05:32in the European heart of the United Nations, by 13 Iranian so-called diplomats.
05:37So this regime has been behind nearly 500 terrorist operations. More than 300 Iranian dissidents have
05:47been killed in the hands of this regime throughout Europe, as well as, you know, very massive terrorist
05:54attacks, you know, like the leveling to ground in Buenos Aires, the Jewish community center in Amiya center,
06:01killing hundreds of people and maiming them. And also the Marine headquarters, American Marines, French
06:06Marines in Khobar Tower in Saudi Arabia, and very, very massive terrorist operations. I myself, you know,
06:13was targeted and I was very lucky to survive because I was shot in the chest and in the abdomen.
06:19I had to go through many, many surgeries and I was in a coma condition for nearly 50 days. And even when
06:25I was in hospital, they tried twice to come and finish me off. But anyhow, miraculously, I survived
06:31every time and I have written about this in the major world press. The reason the regime is so fearful
06:39of its opposition is clear. This regime from its inception has been based on a set up on two pillars,
06:46internal repression and external suppression. And after, you know, the regime tried to keep the problem
06:56away from Iran. So it's after they started in all this crisis mongering and warmongering in the region.
07:03But but even after the 12 day war, it clearly showed that the regime is not frightened to be overthrown
07:09from the air by bombardment, by Americans or Israelis. They know that the enemy is inside Iran, enemy of
07:15the regime. I mean, it's the Iranian people. And this is why they are so fearful and frightened. And they want
07:22to make sure that they either execute people inside Iran or assassinate, you know, the Iranian
07:28decisions outside of the country. So you mentioned the 12 day war just briefly, just in one sentence.
07:35Do you which are you are an expert of the Iranian nuclear program? So in your opinion, which are the real
07:46effects of Israeli and then U.S. attacks? I think the attack, unfortunately, this is the result of a
07:55wrong policy adopted by many Western countries for decades, the policy of appeasement, as we call it.
08:02We have been against this policy. We have always asked, you know, for supporting the Iranian people
08:08and the just resistance movement instead of, you know, banking on the Iranian regime. So the war
08:16the 12 day war was the result of this policy. As I said, you know, you cannot overthrow a dictatorship
08:22from the air by bombardment or whatever reason. This regime has to be dealt with strongly by the
08:29international community. And the Western countries must must stand on the side of the Iranian people,
08:36not on the side of the mullahs. They should stand on the side of millions, not the mullahs.
08:40So this should be the goal or the objective of the international community, in your opinion?
08:46Yes. As Mrs. Rajavi, our president-elect yesterday, elaborated on this situation,
08:52the Iranian resistance has already presented, and Maryam Rajavi spoke about this, a third option.
08:59This third option says no to appeasement, no to war. Support the Iranian people and the Iranian resistance
09:05movement to get rid of this brutal dictatorship. We are not asking for money or for weapons from the
09:13Western countries. We are just asking them to be robust, strong toward this regime, stop this
09:20appeasement policy which they have, you know, adopted during all these four decades. They've given
09:26different names at different junctures under different pretexts. But just very briefly put it,
09:35it's been a very counterproductive policy which has only made the regime more brazen and more aggressive
09:41in its, you know, aggressive efforts outside of Iran trying to acquire a nuclear bomb as well as,
09:47you know, all these proxy forces throughout the region. And also the murderous policies inside Iran,
09:54executions. 120,000 members and supporters of the People's Mujahideen Organization of Iran,
10:00the main opposition movement, have been executed by this regime over the past four decades.
10:07So we are speaking not about the numbers, about human beings, those who had chosen, you know,
10:12to the path of the resistance, and they've been executed by this regime. Very young children,
10:19as well as, you know, entire families have been murdered by this brutal dictatorship. So the West
10:25must now choose the right policy, support the Iranian people and their democratic resistance movement
10:32to topple this regime, and to establish a democratic republic which, you know, as it is in the 10-point plan
10:42of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for a free democratic Iran, is talking about, you know, Iran free of any nuclear
10:49or any weapons of mass destruction, there is no capital punishment, no to execution, and Iran that
10:56where men and women can, you know, be free and absolutely equal, and we live in coexistence with all
11:04our neighbors in the region. Thank you very much Mr. Abedini for being here and for telling us all these
11:11things. Ringraziamo Hossein Abedini per essere stato con noi. Noi ci diamo appuntamento alla prossima
11:17intervista con Italpress.
