00:00Marcus Rashford's loan deal to Barcelona actually makes sense.
00:04Well, kind of.
00:05I'm Matt from 442, and here's what's on our feed.
00:10Right then, Marcus Rashford to Barcelona.
00:12It has been dominating our social media pages in the last few days,
00:16so it only seems right that we talk about it.
00:18And who would have seen this coming?
00:19Because I'll be honest, when I saw, maybe it was even in December,
00:22that he was offering himself to Barcelona,
00:25I was thinking, well, yeah, isn't everybody?
00:28Wouldn't everyone love to play for Barcelona?
00:31It seemed like a bit of a mismatch.
00:32And now that he's effectively burned bridges with Manchester United,
00:36I can't really see him putting together any sort of career back there.
00:38And his performances at Aston Villa were a mixed bag, let's say.
00:42A couple of goals, a couple of good performances here and there,
00:44but overall not really what you'd expect.
00:46How on earth is he ending up at Barcelona?
00:48Well, let's take a look at what the internet has had to say about it.
00:51First off, we'll turn 2X for Britsio Romano on X.
00:55And under his post, Daniel Adjimax has commented saying,
01:00Rashford, inconsistent form, isn't what Barcelona need right now
01:02with their financial struggles, which is a bit odd,
01:05because I think it's a loan.
01:07And financially, Barcelona are in a bit of trouble.
01:09Well, they were, actually.
01:10They're getting a little bit better.
01:12And the loan doesn't seem too bad.
01:13It's definitely cheaper than spending big money
01:15on the likes of Luis Diaz or Nico Williams.
01:18He's also said, for United, letting go of a homegrown talent in his prime
01:20feels like poor planning yet again.
01:22Both clubs seem more reactive and strategic.
01:25I'm actually going to disagree.
01:28I think whether or not it's a smart move for Manchester United
01:30is yet to be seen.
01:31We'll have to come back to this video
01:32and look at things in 12 months' time.
01:35The obvious plan from them is that he does well.
01:37At the end of the season,
01:39if he's starting or contributing regularly to Barcelona,
01:43you're going to have fans saying,
01:44that's the Rashford we needed.
01:46We never should have sold him, this, that and the other.
01:47But the truth is,
01:49Manchester United are putting him out there on loan
01:51with a purpose, and that is to, if he plays well,
01:54get some money for him.
01:56They obviously want to move him on,
01:57and they're going to get absolutely nothing for him
01:59in the current form that he's in.
02:01So it makes sense to get him out there.
02:02And actually, when you look at it,
02:04putting him in the shop window at a club as big as Barcelona
02:07is going to actually be pretty good for them.
02:09Like, if he does well there,
02:11there's, let's call it a proof of concept
02:13that he's still got it at the highest level,
02:16that he can still play in the Champions League
02:17and still deliver on the biggest stage in Europe.
02:20And arguably,
02:21that's going to get Manchester United
02:22a fair chunk of money.
02:24I mean, it's why players are loaned out in general.
02:27That's nothing new.
02:28You know, rediscover form, showcase themselves.
02:30But I actually do think it is a fairly decent plan
02:32for Manchester United.
02:34Although not everyone agrees,
02:36someone on Reddit has said,
02:37in another year,
02:38his contract will be worth even less
02:40because he'll only have 12 months to go,
02:42and United will be low-balled.
02:44That is another option.
02:45That is another option, to be fair.
02:48But I just think at this point,
02:50if he doesn't have a good season,
02:51if he stays at United,
02:53there's going to be even lower.
02:54Obviously, this is all dependent on him doing well at Barcelona.
02:57But the fact of the matter is,
02:58this loan deal,
02:59in an attempt to get even a little bit more money,
03:01is still going to be better off
03:03than him not doing anything at Manchester United
03:05if Ruben Amarim and the club don't want him there.
03:07What I would say, though,
03:08when it comes to Manchester United
03:10and this attempt to, you know,
03:12put Rashford in the shop window for a bit more money,
03:14is they do need to get better at selling players.
03:17100% Manchester United need to get better at selling players.
03:21I think in the last five or six years,
03:23the most they got,
03:24their top two sales were,
03:26Romelu Lukaku went to Inter in 2019
03:28for like 70 million, 75 million,
03:30something like that,
03:31which is a very good amount of money.
03:32And the second highest is Scott McTominay,
03:35last summer for 30 million to Napoli.
03:37Every single player in the last five or six years
03:39has gone for under 30 million.
03:41Now, when you're at Manchester United,
03:43I get it,
03:43and when they are back in the Champions League
03:45or in European football,
03:46there aren't too many clubs that you can go to
03:48or make a step up.
03:49But even so,
03:50they've got to make a little bit of money,
03:52like at least something out there
03:54to, you know,
03:54try and make their bigger gambles
03:57not seem so bad.
03:58When you look at the likes of Anthony,
04:00basically,
04:01and Jadon Sancho,
04:02they've lost a phenomenal amount of money.
04:04Jadon Sancho is reportedly moving on this summer,
04:06looks like he won't be spending any more time at the club.
04:09Juventus,
04:09as of the recording of this video,
04:11with the latest club linked with Sancho
04:12for around 21 million pounds.
04:14Considering he signs for 73 million,
04:16they're losing 52 million.
04:18That's 52 million
04:19just on the transfer fees.
04:22That doesn't then include
04:23the fact that they paid,
04:24what is it,
04:24300,
04:25350 grand a week
04:26for the last few years for him.
04:27Yes,
04:28they made a tiny bit of money
04:29back on that loan to Chelsea.
04:30I think Chelsea paid 5 million
04:31for the privilege of
04:33not having to buy him
04:34for like 25.
04:36I can't quite remember
04:37if they made some money
04:38off sending him back to Dortmund,
04:39but it's going to be a minuscule amount.
04:40The fact is,
04:41they lost a lot of money
04:42on these players,
04:43so they need to be making
04:44a little bit elsewhere.
04:46Maybe they should look at
04:46what Frankfurt are doing,
04:47because the Hugo Eketike deal
04:49to Liverpool
04:49is almost done,
04:50and it means that
04:51selling Eketike to Liverpool,
04:54selling Kolo Mouane to PSG
04:55and selling Marmouche
04:56to Manchester City
04:57has brought them in
04:59£265 million
05:01and all three of those together
05:03cost Frankfurt £16 million.
05:06I mean,
05:07to be fair,
05:07Marmouche and Kolo Mouane
05:08won a free.
05:09That's outrageous.
05:10That is unbelievably good.
05:12That's like £250 million profit
05:14in the space of a couple of years.
05:16And to be fair,
05:17can I just say at this point,
05:18not just Manchester United
05:19should be following that.
05:20Pretty much every team
05:21could do with doing that.
05:23I was checking if you read it,
05:23because you see the same
05:24negativity everywhere.
05:26I kind of was thinking
05:28that maybe Reddit
05:28had something else to offer,
05:30but it didn't.
05:31This comment says,
05:31he'll be back in two years
05:32with his tail between his legs
05:33playing for West Ham
05:34or Brentford.
05:35He's nowhere near as good
05:36as he thinks he is.
05:38It's pretty harsh on West Ham
05:40and Brentford,
05:40to be honest.
05:41If anything,
05:42the last Manchester United player
05:43who left the club
05:45for West Ham
05:45was Wan-Bissaka,
05:46and he's been doing
05:46really well at West Ham.
05:48So maybe that could be worth it
05:49for Marcus Rashford.
05:50And playing for Brentford
05:50isn't so bad.
05:52Finishing higher on the table
05:53than Manchester United are.
05:55Oh, this one's really helpful,
05:56though.
05:57It just says,
05:57Rashford has nothing to offer.
05:58He's done.
06:00Well, maybe Barcelona
06:01don't see it the same way.
06:02Maybe Hansi Flick
06:03doesn't see it the same way,
06:04because now we're going
06:05to flip the script.
06:06From all the negativity,
06:07for all the reasons
06:08that it won't work,
06:09there's a few reasons
06:10why it might work.
06:11And I've actually come across
06:12this interesting post
06:12from School90,
06:14who have basically set out
06:15three different midfield
06:16and striking options
06:17for Barcelona.
06:18The first one you can see here,
06:20A, it's cool,
06:21there's A, B, and C,
06:22doesn't have Rashford in it,
06:23and I think it's actually
06:24the most likely.
06:25It's him being on the bench.
06:26Basically,
06:26going to come off the bench,
06:27be a super sub,
06:29or play in, I don't know,
06:30cup games
06:30where they can give
06:32other players a rest.
06:32It's got Rafinha Lewandowski
06:33and Jamal as the front three,
06:35with Olmo de Jong
06:35and Pedri in behind.
06:37C is also interesting.
06:38It's got Rashford
06:39on the left wing,
06:40Jamal on the right wing,
06:41but Rafinha in the middle
06:42with Olmo de Jong
06:43and Pedri.
06:45Not having Lewandowski
06:46in the starting line-up
06:47seems a bit off to me.
06:48Like, I know he's 36,
06:49I get it,
06:50and they're not going to play
06:50him every single game.
06:53But,
06:53I think in an ideal Barcelona
06:55starting 11,
06:57Lewandowski starts.
06:58So,
06:58this leaves option B.
07:01And I think it's quite good.
07:02And this is where I'm starting
07:03to see that actually
07:04Rashford maybe,
07:06not a certainty,
07:07but maybe
07:08will be able to provide something.
07:09And it's the fact
07:10that the front three
07:11looks very,
07:12very balanced
07:12with him and Lamin-Yamal
07:14either side of Lewandowski.
07:16And it's because
07:16Rashford sort of
07:18has similar traits to Jamal.
07:20I don't think he's as good.
07:21To be honest,
07:21I think Jamal's season
07:22last season was better
07:23than any season
07:23in Rashford's career.
07:24But that's besides the point.
07:25The fact is,
07:27they're both very good
07:27jubblers.
07:28They carry the ball
07:29very well.
07:30They're both cut inside
07:31to either shoot
07:31or link up with Lewandowski
07:33or link up with the likes
07:34of Rafinha,
07:34who also,
07:35by the way,
07:35in this B option
07:36is in,
07:37well,
07:38he's in the midfield role,
07:39but you'd think
07:40he's a bit further forward
07:41than the likes of Pedri
07:41and De Jong.
07:43Rashford really mirrors
07:44what Jamal brings
07:45to the team.
07:46And I think that's really,
07:47really important
07:48for Barcelona.
07:50Jamal,
07:50obviously,
07:50the better he gets,
07:51the more teams
07:51are going to double up,
07:52the more teams
07:53are going to stop him
07:53on one side.
07:54So,
07:54if you've got someone
07:55who can also
07:56bring some real
07:57threatening attack
07:58to the team
07:59on the left-hand side,
08:00it gives the opposition
08:00something to think about
08:01rather than being
08:02too focused
08:03on just the right-hand side.
08:04Look,
08:05it is a third-tier option.
08:06There's no doubt about it.
08:07I know that Deca
08:08was saying the other day
08:09they were never really
08:09that close to Nico Williams,
08:11but I think we can say
08:12at this point,
08:13in terms of the hierarchy
08:15or the priority
08:16of the transfer window,
08:17Nico Williams was number one.
08:19Then Luis Diaz
08:20was number two.
08:20It looks like
08:21they're not going to pay
08:22the amount of money
08:22that Liverpool won
08:23and he's really got his heart
08:24set on a move
08:25to Bayern Munich.
08:26So,
08:26the third option
08:26is Rashford.
08:27I don't think
08:27he's as good
08:28as the other two,
08:29but it's more
08:29the style of player
08:30that Barcelona
08:31have clearly identified
08:32that they want to have
08:34on the left wing.
08:35We're talking
08:35a high volume of dribbles,
08:37a high volume of shots
08:38off,
08:39a lot of goals,
08:40and Rashford will need
08:40to live up to this.
08:41It's not a given
08:42that he's going to do it,
08:43but it's the player profile
08:44that I think is really,
08:45really interesting
08:46for Barcelona.
08:47And someone said,
08:48with Flick
08:48getting the best
08:49out of every player,
08:50we're going to witness
08:51Rashford's prime
08:52very soon.
08:54Prime?
08:55Okay,
08:56maybe not too sure
08:56about that.
08:57However,
08:58Hansi Flick
08:58getting the best
08:59out of players
08:59who maybe didn't seem
09:00that they were
09:01at their best
09:01or maybe not past
09:02their peak,
09:03but on a downward trajectory,
09:04I can see this happening.
09:06I mean,
09:07look at Rafinha,
09:08first off.
09:09Struggled at Barcelona,
09:10early career,
09:11actually came close
09:12to leaving the club
09:12when Xavi was also there,
09:15but now he's a
09:16Ballon d'Or contender.
09:17An unbelievable season.
09:18Lewandowski's back
09:19at ridiculous levels
09:20at age 36.
09:21Pedri and Koundé
09:22have spoken about
09:23how well Hansi Flick
09:24has not only tactically
09:25changed the team,
09:26but helped them as well.
09:28And yeah,
09:28with Laminia Mal's
09:29ridiculous breakout season,
09:30it's fair to say
09:31that Hansi Flick
09:32has had a fairly,
09:32fairly big impact
09:33on him as well.
09:34So maybe there are
09:35the coaching qualities
09:36suggest he could get
09:37something out of
09:38Marcus Rashford.
09:39But yeah,
09:39there's a few of you
09:40also on our YouTube,
09:42on our YouTube post page
09:44that have said
09:45for some reason
09:46he doesn't run very much.
09:48Now,
09:48this is definitely
09:49something that Hansi Flick
09:50has to be aware of
09:51and probably doesn't agree with.
09:52There's a few people
09:53saying he'll shine
09:54in short intervals,
09:55the rest will be crap
09:56due to his unwillingness
09:56to run for 90 minutes.
09:58He'll be benched
09:59by the end of the year,
10:00a lazy player
10:00who doesn't press
10:01or defend.
10:02I don't know,
10:03if you guys in the comments
10:04are seeing something different
10:04to what Barcelona are seeing,
10:06but I'm pretty certain
10:07with the levels
10:07that Barca reached last year
10:09and given how good
10:10of a coach Hansi Flick is,
10:11he's not just going to go out there,
10:13see that someone
10:13clearly can't be arsed
10:14and then still bring them in anyway.
10:17That seems like
10:18a bit of an odd one.
10:19I mean,
10:20as the saying goes,
10:21when you make someone
10:21feel appreciated and wanted,
10:23they actually will run
10:24through brick walls for you
10:25and maybe we'll see
10:26Marcus Rashford doing that.
10:27Of course,
10:28with all that said and done,
10:28he could be absolute crap.
10:30So you could be laughing at this
10:31in a couple of months' time
10:31when he's dropping stinker
10:32after stinker
10:33and isn't even training
10:33with the first team.
10:35But who knows?
10:35It's a loan.
10:36It's probably going to be worth it
10:37in the end,
10:38even if he doesn't hit
10:39ridiculous numbers for Barcelona,
10:41much like absolutely everybody else
10:42in the footballing world.
10:43There's a crazy schedule going on
10:44and they will need more
10:45than just the first 11.
10:47Personally,
10:48is he going to be a hit or a miss?
10:50I can see some good performances.
10:52Better than we've seen
10:53in the Premier League.
10:53Not consistent enough
10:54to suggest he's quite
10:55a top-level player
10:56for Barcelona.
10:57But all in all,
10:58a fairly decent loan spell
10:59and he'll get a good move elsewhere
11:01at the end of the season.
11:02But that is everything
11:03that we've seen on our feed
11:04concerning Marcus Rashford
11:06and Barcelona.
11:07Arguably one of the biggest deals
11:08of the summer.
11:09Let us know in the comments section
11:10what you think will happen
11:11in the next 12 months,
