Kent football fans join celebrations at Buckingham palace

An open-top bus carried the team through the capital, before they appeared on stage with some surprise guests to celebrate a landmark moment in football history. Abby Hook reports.

00:46And we repeatedly did it the hard way.

00:49But I think that you can see how much we care about playing for England, how much we love it.

01:21Well they were certainly on the road to European back to back championships.

01:33And today arrived to celebrate a moment in football history.

01:39One kilometre of tears and cheers from both loyal and new fans.

01:45It was a parade to the Palace fit for a pride of lionesses.

01:50I just think it's really inspirational for young children.

01:55It's showing them that resilience is really good.

01:59If you keep trying and trying you will succeed.

02:02Absolutely buzzing. This is a moment we've been waiting for for a very long time.

02:08Super excited. So proud of the lionesses. I just think it's amazing.

02:12It just shows you can do anything.

02:14And you know, especially now with football, girls are better than the boys, let's face it.

02:18So I think it just shows what amazing role models, they're all brilliant, so fantastic.

02:24It has been a massive thing for women. I am so happy. It's boosted so much.

02:30Like the amount of people that have showed up today is crazy.

02:32I think I've had about seven heart attacks, but I think we'll be alright.

02:36As a footballer myself, it gives you hope that one day that you might be able to do that.

02:40And seeing like the young ones coming on, I think playing at a top level, being able to do that, it's just like a dream.

02:47It's just amazing watching football with her, make some long memories.

02:51She plays football herself, plays academy football.

02:54So all the other parents who have gone out and supported their girls in the Lioness,

02:59I can sympathise all the journey and all the money they put in travelling around to play football.

03:03Amazing time. Yeah, I came up with my daughter. She's a huge, huge Lioness fan.

03:08Watched all the games on TV, had heart attacks in the semi-finals, the finals.

03:12Yeah, nerve-wracking, but great to come up here. See them come past on the bus. Yeah, amazing.

03:16Such a great atmosphere. We had to come up. The atmosphere is so different to the men's game.

03:20It's just such a nice family feeling. Everyone's happy. Everyone's here for the same reason.

03:24It's good intentions. Yeah.

03:26It's been so good, especially with women's football as well. It's like how far it's come with all these people here.

03:31Much better. Much better than the men.

03:34I think they should do a men v women. Men v women.

03:37Who would win? Probably the women.

03:39Yay!

03:40They've changed minds and perceptions of women in sport and just what's possible when you never give up.

03:48They're champions of Europe in 2025, but they'll be champions of fans' hearts forever.
