Dresden wants to stay on the prestigious list of world cultural heritage sites. On June 23rd UNESCO's World Heritage Committee will meet in Seville and decide whether or not to strike Dresden's Elbe Valley from the list. The status might be revoked because of the erection of a bridge that critics claim say will destroy the pastoral landscape and obstruct the view of Dresden's old town. What is it worth to remain on the list, along with Stonehenge, the pyramids of Gizeh and Cologne Cathedral? In Cologne, plans for high-rise buildings were scrapped so as not to jeopardize its World Heritage status.
