00:00On the first day of the month I was in my house alone, and was resting on my bed and slept.

00:05And there appeared to me two men, exceeding big, so that I never saw such on earth.

00:11Their faces were shining like the sun, their eyes, too, were like a burning light,

00:16and from their lips was fire coming forth, with clothing and singing of various kinds,

00:22in appearance purple, their wings brighter than gold, and their hands whiter than snow.

00:28They were standing at the head of my bed, and began to call me by my name.

00:34And I rose from my sleep, and saw clearly those two men standing in front of me.

00:39And I saluted them, and was seized with fear, and the appearance of my face was changed from terror.

00:45And those men said to me, Have courage, Enoch, do not fear.

00:51The eternal God sent us to you, and lo, you shall today ascend with us into heaven,

00:58And you shall tell your sons, and all your household, all that they shall do without you on earth in your house.

01:05And let no one seek you, till the Lord return you to them.

01:10And I made haste to obey them, and went out from my house, and made it to the doors as it was ordered me,

01:17and summoned my sons, Methusel, and Regim, and Gidat,

01:22and made known to them all the marvels those men had told me.

01:26It came to pass, when Enoch had told his sons, that the angels took him onto their wings,

01:33and bore him up onto the first heaven, and placed him on the clouds.

01:38And there I looked, and again I looked higher, and saw the ether,

01:43and they placed me on the first heaven, and showed me a very great sea, greater than the earthly sea.

01:51They brought before my face, the elders and rulers of the stellar orders,

01:57and showed me two hundred angels, who rule the stars, and their services to the heavens,

02:04and fly with their wings, and come round all those who sail.

02:10And here I looked down, and saw the treasure houses of the snow,

02:14and the angels who keep their terrible storehouses, and the clouds, whence they come out, and into which they go.

02:23They showed me the treasure house of the dew, like oil of the olive,

02:28and the appearance of its form, as of all the flowers of the earth.

02:33Further, many angels guarding the treasure houses of these things,

02:38and how they are made to shut and open.

02:41And those men took me, and led me up onto the second heaven,

02:45and showed me darkness, greater than earthly darkness.

02:50And there I saw prisoners hanging, watched, awaiting the great and boundless judgment.

02:58And these angels were dark-looking, more than earthly darkness,

03:02and incessantly making weeping through all hours.

03:06And I said to the men who were with me,

03:09Wherefore are these incessantly tortured?

03:13They answered me,

03:14These are God's apostates,

03:16who obeyed not God's commands,

03:19but took counsel with their own will,

03:21and turned away with their prince,

03:24who also is fastened on the fifth heaven.

03:28And those men took me thence,

03:30and led me up onto the third heaven,

03:33and placed me there.

03:34And I looked downwards,

03:36and saw the produce of these places,

03:39such as never been known for goodness.

03:42And I saw all the sweet-flowering trees,

03:45and beheld their fruits,

03:47which were sweet-smelling,

03:48and all the foods borne by them,

03:51bubbling with fragrant exhalation.

03:55And in the midst of it,

03:56the trees of life,

03:58in that place whereon the Lord rests,

04:01when He goes up into paradise.

04:03And this tree is of ineffable goodness and fragrance,

04:09and adorned more than every existing thing.

04:12And on all sides it is in form gold-looking,

04:16and vermilion,

04:17and fire-like,

04:18and covers all,

04:20and it has produce from all fruits.

04:23Its root is in the garden at the earth's end,

04:26and paradise is between corruptibility and incorruptibility.

04:32And two springs come out,

04:35which send forth honey and milk,

04:37and their springs send forth oil and wine,

04:41and they separate into four parts,

04:43and go round with quiet course,

04:46and go down into the paradise of Eden,

04:49between corruptibility and incorruptibility.

04:52And thence they go forth along the earth,

04:56and have a revolution to their circle,

04:59even as other elements.

05:01And here there is no unfruitful tree,

05:04and every place is blessed.

05:07And there are three hundred angels,

05:09very bright,

05:10who keep the garden,

05:12and with incessant sweet singing,

05:14and never silent voices,

05:17serve the Lord throughout all days and hours.

05:20And those two men led me up onto the northern side,

05:25and showed me there a very terrible place.

05:28And there were all manner of tortures in that place,

05:32cruel darkness and unillumined gloom.

05:36And there is no light there,

05:38but murky fire constantly flaming aloft.

05:42And there is a fiery river coming forth,

05:45and that whole place is everywhere fire,

05:48and everywhere there is frost and ice,

05:51thirst and shivering,

05:53while the bonds are very cruel,

05:56and the angels fearful and merciless,

05:59bearing angry weapons,

06:02merciless torture.

06:03And I said,

06:04Whoa!

06:05Whoa!

06:06How very terrible is this place!

06:09And those men said to me,

06:12This place, O Enoch,

06:13is prepared for those who dishonor God,

06:16who on earth practice sin against nature,

06:20which is child corruption,

06:22after the sodomitic fashion,

06:24magic-making,

06:25enchantments,

06:26and devilish witchcrafts,

06:28and who boast of their wicked deeds,

06:31stealing, lies,

06:32calumnies,

06:33envy,

06:34rancor,

06:35fornication,

06:36murder,

06:36and who,

06:37accursed,

06:38steal the souls of men,

06:40who,

06:41seeing the poor,

06:42take away their goods,

06:44and themselves wax rich,

06:46injuring them for other men's goods,

06:49who,

06:50being able to satisfy the empty,

06:52made the hungering to die,

06:54being able to clothe,

06:56stripped the naked,

06:57and who knew not their creator,

07:00and bowed to the soulless and lifeless gods,

07:04who cannot see nor hear,

07:07vain gods,

07:09who also built hewn images,

07:12and bowed down to unclean handiwork.

07:15For all these is prepared,

07:17this place among these,

07:20for eternal inheritance.

07:23Those men took me,

07:25and led me up onto the fourth heaven,

07:28and showed me all the successive goings,

07:30all the rays of the light of sun and moon.

07:35And I measured their goings,

07:36and compared their light,

07:38and saw that the sun's light is greater than the moon's,

07:42its circle,

07:44and the wheels on which it goes always,

07:46like wind going past with very marvelous speed,

07:51and day and night it has no rest.

07:54Its passage and return are accompanied by four great stars,

07:59and each star hath under it a thousand stars,

08:03to the right of the sun's wheel,

08:05and by four to the left,

08:08and having under it a thousand stars,

08:11altogether eight thousand,

08:14issuing with the sun continually,

08:17and by day fifteen myriads of angels attend it,

08:21and by night a thousand,

08:24and six winged ones issue with the angels

08:28before the sun's wheel into the fiery flames,

08:32and a hundred angels kindle the sun and set it alight.

08:38The men took me onto the fifth heaven and placed me,

08:42and there I saw many and countless soldiers

08:46called Grigori of human appearance,

08:50and their size was greater than that of great giants,

08:54and their faces withered,

08:57and the silence of their mouths perpetual,

09:00and there was no service on the fifth heaven.

09:03I said to the men who were with me,

09:05Wherefore are these very withered,

09:08and their faces melancholy,

09:09and their mouths silent,

09:11and wherefore is there no service on this heaven?

09:14And they said to me,

09:17These are the Grigori,

09:19who with their prince Satanael

09:21rejected the Lord of light,

09:24and after them are those who are held

09:26in great darkness on the second heaven.

09:29And three of them went down onto the earth

09:32from the Lord's throne to the place Ehrman,

09:36and broke through their vows

09:37on the shoulder of the hill Ehrman,

09:39and saw the daughters of men,

09:42how good they are,

09:44and took to themselves wives,

09:46and befouled the earth with their deeds,

09:49who in all times of their age

09:51made lawlessness and mixing,

09:54and giants are born,

09:56and marvelous men,

09:58and great enmity.

10:00And therefore God judged them

10:02with great judgment,

10:04and they weep for their brethren,

10:06and they will be punished

10:08on the Lord's great day.

10:11And thence those men took me up,

10:13and bore me up onto the sixth heaven,

10:16and there I saw seven bands of angels,

10:20very bright and very glorious,

10:23and their faces shining more

10:25than the sun shining, glistening,

10:28and there is no difference in their faces

10:30or behavior or manner of dress.

10:32And these make the orders,

10:35and learn the goings of the stars,

10:38and the alteration of the moon,

10:40or revolution of the sun,

10:42and the good government of the world.

10:45And when they see evil doing,

10:47they make commandments and instruction,

10:50and sweet and loud singing,

10:54and all songs of praise.

10:56These are the archangels

10:58who are above angels.

11:01Measure all life in heaven and on earth,

11:04and the angels who are appointed

11:06over seasons and years,

11:08and angels who are over rivers and sea,

11:11and who are over the fruits of the earth,

11:14and the angels who are over every grass,

11:16giving food to all,

11:18to every living thing,

11:20and the angels who write

11:21all the souls of men

11:23and all their deeds

11:24and their lives

11:25before the Lord's face.

11:27In their midst are six phoenixes,

11:30and six cherubim,

11:32and six six-winged ones,

11:35continually with one voice singing,

11:38and it is not possible

11:40to describe their singing,

11:42and they rejoice before the Lord

11:44at his footstool.

11:46And those two men lifted me up thence

11:48onto the seventh heaven,

11:50and I saw there a very great light,

11:53and fiery troops of great archangels,

11:56in corporal forces and dominions,

11:59orders and governments,

12:01cherubim and seraphim,

12:03thrones,

12:04and many eyed ones,

12:06nine regiments,

12:08the Ionite stations of light.

12:11I became afraid,

12:12and began to tremble with great terror.

12:15And those men took me,

12:16and led me after them,

12:18and said to me,

12:19Have courage, Enoch,

12:21do not fear.

12:23And showed me the Lord from afar,

12:26sitting on his very high throne.

12:28For what is there on the tenth heaven,

12:31since the Lord dwells there?

12:33On the tenth heaven is God.

12:36In the Hebrew tongue,

12:37he is called Aravat.

12:39And the heavenly troops would come

12:41and stand on the ten steps

12:43according to their rank,

12:44and would bow down to the Lord,

12:47and would again go to their places

12:49in joy and felicity,

12:51singing songs in the boundless light

12:55with small and tender voices,

12:58gloriously serving him.

13:01And I saw the eighth heaven,

13:03which is called in the Hebrew tongue,

13:06Muzaloth,

13:07changer of the seasons,

13:09of drought and of wet,

13:10and of the twelve constellations,

13:12of the circle of the firmament,

13:15which are above the seventh heaven.

13:17And I saw the ninth heaven,

13:19which is called in Hebrew,

13:21Kuchavim,

13:22where are the heavenly homes

13:24of the twelve constellations

13:26of the circle of the firmament.

13:29On the tenth heaven,

13:30which is called Aravat,

13:32I saw the appearance of the Lord's face,

13:35like iron made to glow in fire,

13:39and brought out,

13:41emitting sparks,

13:43and it burns.

13:44Thus I saw the Lord's face,

13:46but the Lord's face is ineffable,

13:49marvellous,

13:50and very awful,

13:51and very, very terrible.

13:54And who am I to tell

13:55of the Lord's unspeakable being,

13:58and of his very wonderful face?

14:01And I cannot tell the quantity

14:02of his many instructions,

14:05and various voices.

14:06The Lord's throne is very great,

14:10and not made with hands,

14:12nor the quantity of those

14:13standing around him,

14:15troops of cherubim and seraphim,

14:17nor their incessant singing,

14:20nor his immutable beauty.

14:23And who shall tell

14:25of the ineffable greatness

14:27of his glory?

14:29And I fell prone,

14:31and bowed down to the Lord.

14:32And the Lord with his lips

14:34said to me,

14:36Have courage, Enoch.

14:38Do not fear.

14:39Arise and stand

14:40before my face

14:42into eternity.

14:44And the archangel Michael

14:45lifted me up

14:46and led me

14:47to before the Lord's face.

14:49And the Lord said

14:51to his servants,

14:52tempting them,

14:53Let Enoch stand

14:54before my face

14:55into eternity.

14:57And the glorious ones

14:59bowed down to the Lord

15:00and said,

15:01Let Enoch go

15:02according to your word.

15:04And the Lord said to Michael,

15:06Go and take Enoch

15:07from out of his earthly garments

15:09and anoint him

15:11with my sweet ointment

15:12and put him

15:13into the garments

15:14of my glory.

15:17And Michael did thus

15:18as the Lord told him.

15:19He anointed me

15:20and dressed me,

15:22and the appearance

15:22of that ointment

15:24is more than the great light,

15:26and his ointment

15:27is like sweet dew,

15:29and its smell mild,

15:31shining like the sun's ray.

15:33And I looked at myself,

15:35and I was like

15:36one of his glorious ones.
