Akaal (2025) is a grand-scale historical action-drama directed, written, and led by Gippy Grewal, presenting a thrilling tale of Sikh warrior valor and unity in dual Punjabi-Hindi versions. Set in post-1840s Punjab following Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s passing, the film follows Sardar Akaal Singh (Gippy Grewal) as he defends his homeland when tyranny and marauders threaten to overwhelm his village. Led by the ruthless Jangi Jahan (Nikitin Dheer), the enemy breaks treaties and descends upon the brave villagers.

Supporting the protagonist are Sahej Kaur (Nimrat Khaira), a formidable warrior wife; Bhai Sukha Singh (Gurpreet Ghuggi), the moral anchor; and Akaal’s loyal sons Zora/Charat (Shinda Grewal) and Balbir (Ekom Grewal). They collectively embody Sikh principles of faith, courage, sacrifice, and justice. Mita Vashisht shines as Jangi’s strategic sister Khatroo, with Prince Kanwaljit Singh, Jaggi Singh, and a cameo by Raj Hundal adding to the narrative depth.

Combining breathtaking battle sequences and sweeping visuals by Baljit Singh Deo, the film is elevated by a resonant and stirring soundtrack by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. Cinematic action choreography and evocative songs fuse to create a culturally rich, immersive experience grounded in Sikh heritage.

Released worldwide on April 10, 2025, during Vaisakhi, Akaal has garnered acclaim for its technical brilliance, emotional gravitas, and powerful lead performances. Critics noted the strong direction, dynamic action scenes, and visual storytelling; some felt the storyline leaned familiar, but most praised its representation of Sikh unity and valor
