00:03:28okay here we are uh no introductions needed but i'm delighted to be joined by scott moyer
00:03:38um delighted to be here thank you and here's a coach yeah not a skater hope not i'm a little
00:03:45old i think now i don't know come back is the well for the next gen team that's not a possibility
00:03:50but uh yeah there's enough comebacks this year i think i would just enjoy yeah never know
00:03:55you heard it here first um okay i'd like to talk to you um because i've had singles coaches on
00:04:02so now for a dance coach because i think there's a bit of a different perspective
00:04:06yeah you mean that ice dance coaches are more fun well we did talk about doing this
00:04:11the patio oh yes yeah a post game patio yeah that would be better that would be more um no the it's
00:04:17the longevity of the dancer and the dance teams and you were in a different situation you had
00:04:23a partner all the way through but i think that's not the norm yeah it's it's pretty it's a nice
00:04:30luxury um for for skaters uh obviously the sport is um much more athletic than it than it was when it
00:04:37was originated um with the new judging system and all the technical elements being very difficult and
00:04:43the lifts being a little bit more freedom than even when we we started in the sport so that helps but it
00:04:48does it is great to be able to grow into yourself as an athlete as a performer and a lot of people
00:04:53now hitting their stride around 30 years old and and uh that's kind of exciting i think for for the
00:04:58sport of ice dance to be able to have that longevity do you feel ice dancers start later now
00:05:04or are they still starting earlier well i think that's the best thing i think a lot of people look
00:05:09at our journey and model um you know what what works after that tessa and i but the best thing that
00:05:15i've learned in coaching is that there's so many different formulas and because you have that time
00:05:19uh ice dance can be experienced in many different ways and we've seen successes in in multiple different
00:05:24avenues people go on junior grand prix or don't or on next-gen team or they come out of nowhere and
00:05:28partner up later and i think that's really great it creates a lot of different storylines different
00:05:32journeys and then ultimately at the end really great ice dancing when we talk about those journeys
00:05:38because some take longer than others what is the motivation or does the motivation become difficult to can
00:05:45keep teams like training year after year yeah it can be difficult i think especially for um young
00:05:53female skaters when you know if there's a breakup i still find that it's a little bit more vulnerable
00:05:58that's why i love the same sack ice dancing idea getting people able to participate in our awesome sport
00:06:05both female female male male however you can it's better than sitting on the couch at home so
00:06:09it can be vulnerable for for those athletes while they're in that part of the journey
00:06:13uh but what i found if people really love it really stick to it um usually the the right situation
00:06:19comes around so your motivation to become a coach was that always your plan well i'm very fortunate
00:06:27um i i didn't want i didn't think i was going to be a coach because that was so obvious um after being
00:06:33in the rink for so many years that there was probably time for something new but my mom brought me in to
00:06:37work with her teams and it didn't take me long before i realized um that that was in me it was
00:06:42in my blood uh my mom would obviously coach for 40 plus years and was fortunate to be able to inherit
00:06:48some athletes and kind of get running and then with my affiliation with montreal and the way that i am
00:06:53kind of changed my approach to the sport i wanted to be a part of it i wanted to pass that on and make
00:06:58the footprint bigger so i've been very blessed with my journey and i still i'm pretty shocked in the morning when i leave my
00:07:04beautiful family and i'm excited to go to the rink you know after after so many years it's still like
00:07:09wow i really do love being in a grubby skating rink um because i love the sport so much well that's
00:07:15when you know skating is in your genes definitely in your family genes so that's no surprise um
00:07:21and you're doing an amazing job with your coaching and your athletes in your development do you get
00:07:26nervous when you watch them compete that depends uh early in the year we're learning so much like
00:07:31it's a different type of nerves i get very excited um i think that my athletes prepare very well
00:07:37certainly when they're more prepared i get a little bit more nervous because i there's there's
00:07:41expectation i want them to do well because they deserve to do well but early in the year there's
00:07:45so much to learn as they go out and perform for the first time an event like this is super important
00:07:50they go out and they've trained really hard all summer they're ready to go but to compete is a
00:07:54different energy you learn so much and both athletes and coaches so there's there's so much to learn at
00:07:59these events that i'm not really nervous i'm more taking notes and always i'm kind of annoying
00:08:04that's why i bring brought cara i need a teammate here to continue to bounce ideas off of well we're
00:08:09going to cut off because we're going to start the pairs event but thank you so much for joining us
00:08:12and good luck with the rest of the season thank you
