M. K. Muthu (born January 14, 1948 – died July 19, 2025) was the eldest son of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. He was introduced to Tamil cinema in the early 1970s with films like Pillaiyo Pillai, Anaiya Vilakku, and Pookkari, and was once groomed as a rival to actor‑politician M.G. Ramachandran (MGR). After a strained relationship and a brief association with the AIADMK, he reconciled with his father in 2009. Muthu passed away in Chennai at the age of 77 this morning, reportedly due to age-related health issues. He is survived by his wife, son Arulnithi, and daughter Thenmozhi, and his body is being kept in Injambakkam, Chennai, for public homage.
