The exchequer secretary to the Treasury has said Diane Abbott's Labour suspension should be resolved as swiftly as possible. 00:00What's happened is that Diane has been administratively suspended whilst there is an
00:04investigation into comments that she's made that have been broadcast in recent days. Now
00:08the Labour Party has processes for handling issues like this and whilst matters are being
00:13looked into the relevant person is administratively suspended whoever they are. That's what's happened
00:19in this case and what we all want I think is for this matter to conclude swiftly. This is a matter
00:25for the Chief Whip and for the process which is now underway to look at the comments that Diane made
00:30and that process needs to play out and actually you know it's really important for Ministers like
00:34myself and other MPs not to pass their own comment on what Diane Abbott said because there is a process
00:40underway now which we need to respect and let it come to its own conclusion.
