00:00Happy 4th of July from the Expedition 73 crew currently aboard the International Space Station.

00:16We are orbiting 250 miles above you, orbiting the Earth every 90 minutes, and we wanted to take this

00:23opportunity to wish a happy 4th of July to everybody and tell you a little bit about what

00:28this holiday means to each one of us.

00:31I'm NASA astronaut Anne McClain, and for me, the 4th of July represents the responsibilities

00:36that we each have.

00:38To whom much is given, much is expected.

00:40Our forefathers gave us the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and

00:47every generation must protect that for future generations.

00:54I'm NASA astronaut Nicole Ayers, and happy 4th of July to all of you.

00:58This is a special holiday.

00:59For me, it just reminds us of the freedom that we get to enjoy and that we have enjoyed for

01:03so many years.

01:05And like Anne said, you know, protecting that freedom is important to all of us here as military

01:09officers, but also NASA astronauts, and we are proud to serve our country both on Earth

01:14and in space.

01:15And I'm NASA astronaut Johnny Kim, and when I think of the 4th of July, our American independence,

01:30it's a deep day of reflection for me.

01:32It's about remembering so many of our important American ideals of freedom and democracy and

01:39unity.

01:40And it's about honoring those who came before us, who gave so much thought and sacrifice

01:47to be part of something greater than themselves.

01:51And I just want to say a message to all of our loved ones.

01:55We couldn't do this mission without your love and support.

01:59And to those following our mission, the spirit of exploration, just like the spirit of freedom

02:06and democracy is what has made our country so great.
