00:02:05Grazie.
00:02:06Grazie.
00:02:07Do I know Katie?
00:02:08Probably not.
00:02:09I don't think many people really know Katie Taylor.
00:02:20Grazie.
00:02:22Grazie.
00:02:23Grazie.
00:02:24Grazie.
00:02:25Grazie.
00:02:26She got punched.
00:03:32Alla start in a place like this, actually.
00:03:34She had a sony back garden.
00:03:36That's where he did all the training, wasn't it?
00:03:38Yeah.
00:03:45You know, the very first time she walked into a boxing club,
00:03:49it seemed natural to her.
00:03:52Just seemed like she'd done it her whole life.
00:03:55I was watching my dad and my brother's box
00:03:58and I thought I'd like to have a go.
00:03:59I'm going to go all the way to the very top.
00:04:03We had no babysitter, so I took Katie up
00:04:05just to hang around the boxing gym while I was up there training.
00:04:08I looked around and she was inspiring with the boys.
00:04:10She just seemed to be born to boxing.
00:04:14You know, I never looked for Barbie dolls or prams
00:04:17or anything Christmas time.
00:04:18I always looked for a pair of boxing gloves
00:04:20and a pair of football boots.
00:04:22It was like pulling teeth, trying to get a conversation out of Katie.
00:04:25And it used to worry me sometimes, you know.
00:04:26I used to think, like, she's so shy.
00:04:27And I think sport was a way for her to express herself.
00:04:31She was great at athletics.
00:04:32She was a great soccer player, a great basketball player.
00:04:35She had a table tennis tournament in her school.
00:04:37She won that.
00:04:39Her competitive streak is borderline unhealthy.
00:04:43Katie Taylor calling for it.
00:04:45She looks up.
00:04:45Oh, she's hit one.
00:04:46Oh, what a goal!
00:04:47Republic of Ireland!
00:04:49And Katie Taylor!
00:04:50They were brought up in an area that had a bad name.
00:04:52There was a lot of drugs.
00:04:54And sport was an escape, if you like, for them.
00:04:58When I put the gloves on in the ring,
00:05:00that's where I felt most alive.
00:05:02This is what I was born to do.
00:05:07When Katie was 12,
00:05:09her parents, Bridget and Pete,
00:05:10tried to get her into shows.
00:05:11They said, no, you can't fight here.
00:05:13You're a girl.
00:05:13Women's boxing at the time
00:05:18wasn't even allowed in the country.
00:05:21Our amateur boxing association
00:05:23wouldn't sanction her fights.
00:05:25There's a lot of old guys there,
00:05:27and they would just,
00:05:28what, women boxing?
00:05:29What?
00:05:30You caught me?
00:05:31You know, we're not going to have that here.
00:05:33These are men telling women
00:05:35what they should and shouldn't do with their bodies.
00:05:37I had to pretend to be a boy
00:05:39to get these actual fights
00:05:41and to have a chance to box them
00:05:42in front of crowds.
00:05:43We would put her name down on a program
00:05:48as Kay Taylor.
00:05:49As she was coming out to the ring,
00:05:51we would make sure
00:05:52that her hair was up in a hairnet
00:05:53and she already had the headgear on her.
00:05:56And she got into the ring and boxed
00:05:58and obviously left her headgear on
00:06:00after the fight as well.
00:06:03What do you say to this idea
00:06:05that it's not really for girls?
00:06:07I find it very insulting.
00:06:08I shall be given the opportunity to box.
00:06:10It's a minority sport,
00:06:11and that's for a reason.
00:06:12Girls take up these sports.
00:06:13There has to be a line drawn somewhere.
00:06:16My parents used to always say
00:06:17that every child is born for greatness.
00:06:19You can be whatever you want to be.
00:06:21You have to believe in yourself
00:06:22and don't be afraid.
00:06:25Don't let these people get you down.
00:06:26You're going to be a superstar.
00:06:27You're going to get...
00:06:28You know, these are things that I grew up listening to, really.
00:06:32They kept knocking doors,
00:06:34and so there were Crusaders.
00:06:39It was in the National Stadium in Halloween 2001.
00:06:42I think there were two other women's fights on the bill.
00:06:44Katie's with the first on.
00:06:46That would have been the first sanctioned fight
00:06:47for one in Ireland.
00:06:49I just remember being so excited,
00:06:52and things just went from there.
00:06:55To us it felt significant.
00:06:57I think for Katie it was just a recognition
00:06:59that, oh, I can do this now.
00:07:01We didn't know how good she was
00:07:11because it was just Ireland that didn't sanction it.
00:07:14Other countries were way ahead.
00:07:18One of our first international competitions,
00:07:21it was in Italy,
00:07:22and she was up against the world champion in the final.
00:07:26In 2002, I became the world champion.
00:07:28It was 2004.
00:07:30I hadn't lost since I had won the world championship.
00:07:34So I was 33, and she was 17.
00:07:38I remember seeing Jennifer Ogg's name on the list.
00:07:41That's the girl I want to box.
00:07:42She's the current world champion.
00:07:43I remember watching her doing hand pads with her dad
00:07:47and thinking,
00:07:48oh, she's maybe a little different.
00:07:52Her hand speed was really the thing
00:07:54that I was shocked at.
00:07:56She was just so perfectly balanced.
00:07:58She was hitting me with a combination
00:08:00that I had not been hit with before.
00:08:02What is happening?
00:08:03This is a nightmare.
00:08:05I knew I didn't win.
00:08:07We met in the center of the ring,
00:08:08and I said, you're going to be the next world champion.
00:08:11I guess it was like the change in underguard
00:08:13when I actually went in and I beat her.
00:08:15Women's boxing was struggling
00:08:20and world boxing just didn't want it.
00:08:24There was deserted arenas.
00:08:26Most of the myth of rock has it over
00:08:27and glitchy streams on YouTube.
00:08:28Beautiful left, beautiful right cross.
00:08:31We had to earn the respect.
00:08:34A new European show,
00:08:35Panshee Taylor.
00:08:38Another amazing performance by Taylor.
00:08:41We're only back today,
00:08:42and the phone's been popping.
00:08:44Katie has the chance to write herself
00:08:45into the record books.
00:08:46This will be her third world title on the trot.
00:08:48She has been brilliant.
00:08:50She's been beautiful.
00:08:52Speechless at the moment.
00:08:53It's been the best two weeks of my life, Radian.
00:08:55Taylor, up to now,
00:08:57unbeaten and unbeatable in Europe and the world.
00:08:59She's been so persistent in the last few years,
00:09:02and, yeah, I'm so proud of her.
00:09:04She is the world champion again.
00:09:06It's unbelievable.
00:09:07Her high speed is phenomenal.
00:09:09Her movements, her speed,
00:09:11her technical ability,
00:09:12freakishly good.
00:09:14When you have that kind of talent,
00:09:17you're going to earn the respect.
00:09:19She's had the biggest impact of any female ever.
00:09:23Oh, that's a crack and right hand she has there.
00:09:25Women's boxing is alive.
00:09:27Taylor has brought the place to life.
00:09:31That was as good as watching two top-class men fighting.
00:09:36This is what I've always wanted to do,
00:09:38and I'm just so privileged to be able to, you know,
00:09:40live a life like this.
00:09:42Is there any coach at Boxwood that know each other as well?
00:09:45What a happy man.
00:09:46What a great coach.
00:09:49Me and my dad have an amazing relationship.
00:09:51He's a very honest man, I think,
00:09:52and he's a man full of integrity as well,
00:09:54so that's what makes us the great team that we are.
00:10:00Her dad organised the training,
00:10:03told her the tactics.
00:10:04Katie would only think about what she needs to do
00:10:06for those three three-minute rounds.
00:10:08I think he was a very well-rounded coach.
00:10:11He understood boxing.
00:10:12He was a very good tactician.
00:10:14But he also had a really in-depth knowledge
00:10:16of strength and conditioning.
00:10:19It's your dad in the corner,
00:10:20so no matter what he says,
00:10:21you're going to trust it.
00:10:23If things weren't kind of going too well,
00:10:25he was always able to kind of talk her around,
00:10:27just encourage her,
00:10:28let her know it was going to be okay.
00:10:29It certainly built a very strong relationship.
00:10:32Mutual dependence.
00:10:34Katie and her dad are dying on Katie.
00:10:36You know, I was able to say to me before,
00:10:37fighting in between rounds,
00:10:39to give me that extra bit of self-belief.
00:10:41We get on great now.
00:10:43We're like best friends, to tell you the truth.
00:10:50Like Pete said,
00:10:50it's like a rollercoaster of emotion.
00:10:52It's not the same when you get the phone call home,
00:10:55you know, to say that she's won.
00:10:56It's nice to be there to share the moment, I think.
00:10:59On my mum's side,
00:11:00I think she was kind of more of the guiding light
00:11:03in terms of wisdom in the household.
00:11:05I think she was great at instilling
00:11:06a spiritual integrity,
00:11:08a strength of character.
00:11:10I just remember thinking,
00:11:12you know, I need to be here for my kids.
00:11:14Give them the best chance of your life.
00:11:16Instill something good in them.
00:11:19These things did come together
00:11:20in a kind of a perfect marriage
00:11:21and create an environment
00:11:23where somebody like Katie could kind of raise up.
00:11:29So we're going back to where I grew up,
00:11:43in Old Court.
00:11:45My sister lives in the house.
00:11:46My eldest brother is still in the estate as well.
00:11:49So I just loved growing up there.
00:11:51I think they're the most genuine people
00:11:53who are living there.
00:11:54And the support that I got from everyone there
00:11:56as well was just incredible.
00:11:58So this is where it all started for me.
00:12:00It was always very natural for us
00:12:15to know how to throw a punch.
00:12:16Myself and Lee
00:12:17would have been messing around in the kitchen.
00:12:19I think one of us was Rocky Marciano,
00:12:21your one was Jack Dempsey.
00:12:22And we come in here
00:12:23and I'd be on my knees like this
00:12:24and I'd be on my knees like this,
00:12:24and Katie would be about that height there, you know?
00:12:26Yeah.
00:12:26And I'd be like, come on,
00:12:27I'd be jabbing,
00:12:28and I'll just be coming in like this.
00:12:30Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
00:12:31So I used to just cover up like this.
00:12:33Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba.
00:12:34I know what I mean?
00:12:35The life used to have.
00:12:35Six or seven years of age.
00:12:37And we used to have a shed out the back here.
00:12:39It's gone now,
00:12:40but there's like just a bag hanging up out there
00:12:44and a few weights.
00:12:46Goodbye, goodbye.
00:12:48So yeah, we used to just have the shed
00:12:49kind of around here.
00:12:51And the chenobarra is actually still there, lookit.
00:12:53Oh, it is still there.
00:12:54Come on, Katie.
00:12:55Go over it.
00:12:55Yeah.
00:12:56Right, how many can you do?
00:12:57Anche a mea?
00:13:01One.
00:13:02Two.
00:13:09That's enough for me.
00:13:14This bank here would have been our football pitch, our golf, little par 3 golf course, our boarding pitch.
00:13:22And believe it or not our boxing ring. We used to do boxing here years ago, didn't we?
00:13:25Yeah.
00:13:25We used to bring the gloves out and there'd be about five or six, maybe starting off, seven or eight, and we'd be picking out little spars here and there, and all of a sudden the kids around Lockhart would see everything.
00:13:34So in about an hour then, there was just, you know what I mean, about a hundred kids around the big circle, and the ring used to move around the whole green as we were spars, and it used to be about four or five hours down.
00:13:42And during the Olympics, you had a TV here, didn't you? During the Olympics.
00:13:46Yeah, I think you had it down in the Maloney's down there, yeah.
00:13:48They had a TV out in the Maloney's garden just here, and the whole estate was out to watch it.
00:13:53It's only when I was around six or seven years of age, that's when the dream to become an Olympic champion came about, like.
00:14:00But this is where the seed was planted.
00:14:02What about you, Katie? I mean, this cannot go on forever, as with all sports. What do you think you'll do?
00:14:12I'm not sure. Hopefully, if I win an Olympic gold medal, I'll be a millionaire, but then I won't have to worry about anything else.
00:14:17I'd say she was six. She used to climb up on the chairs in the kitchen, and she had hands raised, and she was getting a medal for something.
00:14:32Just pretending that the gold medal was going on me, I was nearly practising my time on the podium, really.
00:14:45It seemed to me, throughout my whole childhood, all I thought about was one of that Olympic gold medal.
00:14:54You know, my whole life revolved around this dream that I had.
00:14:58It doesn't make sense for a person to have a dream to be an Olympian in a sport that doesn't exist in the Olympics.
00:15:10Boxing wasn't represented at the Olympics purely because men had stopped women from getting into boxing.
00:15:21If the ladies get put into the Olympics, then the numbers have to be cut for the men, and a lot of the countries don't want the men to be cut.
00:15:28You know, it's devastating.
00:15:30I was so down about the whole thing, and I was questioning everything, you know, about my life at that stage.
00:15:36She was invited to go to Chicago in 2007 to basically make a presentation of how good or bad women's boxing is.
00:15:50She was under the microscope in Chicago.
00:15:53I'm boxing in front of the Olympic Committee, and hopefully then they'll put it into the Olympics in 2012.
00:15:57I remember talking to one of the officials beforehand, saying that women's boxing depends on how you girls perform.
00:16:08Cater again goes in with that left and the right. The pace that she has.
00:16:14It stopped a girl in the first round, actually.
00:16:16The International Boxing Association attributed the inclusion of female boxing in the Olympics to Katie and to that moment.
00:16:29It's a dream come true for me, really, and I just want to...
00:16:37This is something that I drowned off since I was seven years of age.
00:16:40I just felt this is my time, this is my destiny.
00:16:50Casey, we love you! We love you, Casey!
00:16:52I saw the nods on fear between the gold medal in the Olympics. This has to be it.
00:16:56Can't wait for Katie to win gold for Ireland.
00:16:58The sense of expectation was phenomenal.
00:17:00I remember thinking the pressure, like...
00:17:01100% confidence. She's going to fight it back out of this recession.
00:17:09And the chant around the place is Katie Grady.
00:17:12So much said about her, but all the pressure can she produce?
00:17:22Both hands going, one at the body, one at the head.
00:17:23Now Jonas has got a left-hand away.
00:17:26And Jonas has come alive.
00:17:28What a scrap. What a fight.
00:17:30And this magical woman from Bray is now showing the world how good she is.
00:17:36The winner, Katie Grady.
00:17:42Fabulous, Katie.
00:17:44What was it like? I mean, we've never experienced anything like this.
00:17:47Yeah, either have I.
00:17:49We have to win a competition, and that's it.
00:17:50One step at a time, one round at a time, one minute at a time.
00:17:52That's how we're taking it, you know.
00:17:54Katie Taylor boosts her place in the gold medal bout
00:17:58after another masterful performance.
00:18:00The wait is almost over.
00:18:02The entire country is behind her.
00:18:04We are ready to watch Katie fight for gold.
00:18:15Okay, Chavis going to give her a hard, hard tough fight.
00:18:18This is far from a kickoff.
00:18:19Achigava may be the only other boxer who's actually beaten Katie in an amateur fight.
00:18:32Look at that right hand of Taylor. It's ready to go at any moment.
00:18:35We knew it was going to be decided by a point or two.
00:18:39Almost fencing match between the two of them.
00:18:41Good left hand by the Russian.
00:18:44That's a great right hand from Taylor.
00:18:47Everyone here throw out for one as well.
00:18:50If you come to the end of the first round.
00:18:52Oh, right hand from Taylor.
00:18:53Nothing really in him at all.
00:18:57Anybody's contest.
00:19:03It's a rip-roaring fight.
00:19:04So straight tactical.
00:19:06And at the end of that round the Russian is a point ahead.
00:19:09One point ahead.
00:19:11And leading by four points to three.
00:19:12You know, after losing the second, going down into the third round in the Olympic final, she was under so much pressure.
00:19:26Neither of them can take a breath.
00:19:29Neither of them can blink in concentration.
00:19:31Someone leaves the rush and Taylor scores in the left hand.
00:19:34And the bell ends.
00:19:36That round.
00:19:38And Taylor.
00:19:40Won the round by four points to one.
00:19:42Here is ahead.
00:19:43She's caught there with her right hand.
00:19:44This fourth round was very tight.
00:19:58Anytime she throws a punch, I'll throw a splatter of punches at the same time.
00:20:03And hoping in the mix of it all, no clear points come true.
00:20:09And after the bell, it's all over.
00:20:11Is it me, kid? He's asking.
00:20:12Pete giving her reassurance. It's good. It's good.
00:20:15But I was looking at Pete.
00:20:17Nobody in the Xcel Arena knew who had won that fight.
00:20:19Absolutely nobody.
00:20:21Two great fighters. And they must wait. They must wait.
00:20:24The butterflies are working on Katie's stomach now.
00:20:32Katie is a chance around the Xcel Arena.
00:20:34But everybody is nervous.
00:20:38Did she hold on to her two-point lead in the last round?
00:20:40Before the decision was announced, we were in tears.
00:20:43It just seemed to go on forever.
00:20:47What a nerve-wracking time it is here in London.
00:20:49The winner by a score of ten points to eight, and the Olympic champion, in the ring, Katie Taylor, is the champions ladies of the games.
00:21:01Fabulous kid.
00:21:02A moment to remember, for the Taylor family, for every Irish family.
00:21:03The winner by a score of ten points to eight, and the Olympic champion, the ring, Katie Taylor, is the champions ladies of the games.
00:21:16The great thing about that moment is, it was special for everybody. Everybody got to share that.
00:21:20That was an Irish moment.
00:21:22A moment to remember, for the Taylor family, for every Irish family.
00:21:27The great thing about that moment is, it was special for everybody. Everybody got to share that. That was an Irish moment.
00:21:46There was just a release of emotion in Katie that we just, we've never seen before. Even she knew that this was a culmination of life, of dreaming and working hard.
00:22:01I was a special day today, and I knew that Katie's destiny was to win a gold medal. I just knew she was going to pull through, you know.
00:22:16Definitely not plan on retiring. Sorry about that.
00:22:22Ten or fifteen years after me, maybe.
00:22:24I haven't. I haven't.
00:22:31Without the sport, I'd be nothing. I just want to thank everyone for all the prayers of the last week.
00:22:46Complete joy. Absolute relief. The words can't express how happy I was during that moment.
00:22:55Yeah, for the whole family as well.
00:23:01She just looks so young in some of theirs, like...
00:23:28Sometimes it's nice just to see where it all started and just looking back over them. With fondness, really.
00:23:36I find the Olympics very emotional. We did more laughing than crying together, I think, during those couple of weeks.
00:23:43Seriously.
00:23:44I do remember after her winning the gold, I remember her saying, I'm going to go for a second Olympics the very next day.
00:23:52And we all... Her face was just dropped.
00:23:56Just give us a week or two to soak all the supers before going back into this journey again.
00:24:02But yeah, I do remember the blood straining from my face that day when she said that.
00:24:06You would think after achieving as much as Katie has achieved, some of that hunger would dwindle away. No chance.
00:24:18No chance.
00:24:20Ladies and gentlemen, Katie Taylor, our sportsperson of the year.
00:24:25Katie Taylor's win in Bucharest saw her secure her successive European Championship.
00:24:31I can't actually put into words what I feel about her. She's unbelievable.
00:24:36Katie broke the record. She was over a decade number one on the pound-for-pound list. That's how dominant she was.
00:24:42What a pleasure it is to welcome Katie and Pete Taylor, ladies and gentlemen.
00:24:46It's great now and every time I step into the ring that I have my biological fatter. How many happen to be a fatter in the corner with me?
00:24:52Is Olympic gold on the horizon for you?
00:24:55That's the main goal since London after, yeah.
00:24:59A six-time European champion, an Olympic gold medalist and now a fifth successive world title, this Irish sporting legend still has plenty of good days ahead.
00:25:07There came a point where the relationship between Katie and my dad started to become a bit more fractured.
00:25:26There was a bit of tension starting to creep in there.
00:25:30And at the time we didn't really understand fully what the tension was.
00:25:34So I think that was probably the start of some cracks in the wall.
00:25:42I think for the first time I seen kind of a getting emotional.
00:25:57There was definitely a shift, something not right going on.
00:26:04My dad decided to step away from the family and do a life with this other girl.
00:26:13I was going from seeing my dad every day to not seeing him at all.
00:26:16To Katie this is the most heartbreaking news.
00:26:21I mean to all of us this is, in the family this was really heartbreaking.
00:26:26It was a complete shock.
00:26:29For me I think I described it as feeling like I was hit with a train.
00:26:34It's hard enough when you're going through something yourself but when you're watching people you love struggling with this as well.
00:26:41Obviously just the emotional turmoil was huge.
00:26:44It's something that you would never think that's going to happen to your family.
00:26:49You're nearly grave for somebody because that person's gone.
00:26:52I felt like my dad was no longer someone who I could work with really.
00:27:01She couldn't look at him in the corner anymore.
00:27:10The trust was broken.
00:27:13My success in the ring doesn't mean as much to me as my integrity really.
00:27:18And that's definitely the most important thing to me.
00:27:22In the blue corner, Yana Alex Sivna has beaten Katie Taylor.
00:27:40She had known nothing else all her life, you know, going down and training in the club.
00:27:45No club to train in, no coach and getting ready for an Olympic Games.
00:27:54The first time I had to go training without him, I was driving in by myself and the tears were rolling out my face.
00:28:01I was thinking this is actually, you know, a reality for me.
00:28:10I never thought I'd have to do this without him.
00:28:12Taylor now is backing off a bit and she's getting picked off here.
00:28:19Mossadie takes it!
00:28:23Planned to come over by becoming a sixth time world champion.
00:28:27Unfortunately, it'll happen for you.
00:28:31I wouldn't write Katie Taylor off when it comes to the Olympic Games now.
00:28:35I wouldn't write her off at all.
00:28:37You know, she's of course disappointed now.
00:28:39We all expect so much of her.
00:28:42But the fact that she had qualified, I thought, okay, this is going to be the start of something good now.
00:28:47This is the end of maybe that hardship that she's had to go through.
00:28:51I knew at that point I wasn't boxing my best and I was going in still as a favour for the competition.
00:29:05I still felt like I was good enough to come back with a gold medal.
00:29:09I would have been hopeful.
00:29:10She wasn't the type of person that would shrink back from it.
00:29:11I do remember her walking for her first fight thinking to myself, she doesn't really have any definition in her shoulders.
00:29:23You could actually see she wasn't in the same shape that she was in when she went to London.
00:29:28She was basically trying to do it on her own at that point.
00:29:32It was still hopeful.
00:29:33Another good shot from Pat Conant.
00:29:34She is powerful.
00:29:35Another right straight down the throat.
00:29:36Katie Taylor needs to up the performance levels here.
00:29:37Better right and a left from Katie Taylor there.
00:29:38Good left hand to the chin.
00:29:39But this is better from Taylor.
00:29:40Beautiful shot.
00:29:41Right and then a left.
00:29:42Boys are ready to strike it.
00:29:43Another beautiful left over the side.
00:29:44Very close to call.
00:29:45Taylor certainly the fizzier here.
00:29:46Has she done enough to get the judges in the last round?
00:30:02I think she feels like she's done enough.
00:30:07Too tight to call.
00:30:09Ladies and gentlemen, the winner in the blue corner.
00:30:19She's beaten.
00:30:20Katie Taylor is beaten and out of the Olympic Games.
00:30:28Katie, give me your reaction.
00:30:39I knew when I made a decision to step away from my dad that was going to cost me a lot.
00:31:02It was hard.
00:31:07It was hard for us to watch.
00:31:09It was hard for us to watch.
00:31:15That was a tough day.
00:31:17You know, there's this weight of disappointment that I would have given anything just to take it away from her.
00:31:34I just felt like every time I stepped into the ring without my dad during that time, I was missing my right arm.
00:31:51How are we going to get through this?
00:32:01I actually was fearful.
00:32:03I just thought this is it now.
00:32:05She's just floored.
00:32:12For the first time ever, there's doubt setting into her mind.
00:32:15The Katie Taylor that we've seen in the ring is not the same Katie Taylor I know.
00:32:18Perhaps a 30 of Katie's reflexes are just not what they used to be.
00:32:28I knew that wasn't the end of my career.
00:32:31But I also know that a lot of changes needed to happen as well.
00:32:37And that's when I made the decision actually to go over to Ross for a few weeks.
00:32:48with a big failo.
00:32:49The people because the 80s are effinginental.
00:32:50It is a great deal.
00:32:51It is a great deal.
00:32:52It's about the most.
00:32:53You need to know that a lot of changes in the room.
00:32:54There are many men.
00:32:55I just want to get a big deal.
00:32:56But you need to make sure that a lot of changes went on.
00:32:57All the changes in the room.
00:32:58I don't know that a lot of changes.
00:32:59They're all all the changes.
00:33:00I mean, remember this.
00:33:01I'm getting to get into the room.
00:33:02I theme the planning.
00:33:0330 seconds.
00:33:04Just want them to steal the round now.
00:33:05Be smart.
00:33:06The story is a big deal.
00:33:07On the other hand, it's about to keep it in trouble.
00:33:08I'm going to try to get into this in the room.
00:33:0930 secondes, just go and let them steal the round now, be smart
00:33:17you're in a tough fight, you need the last round
00:33:21your legs are tired, you gotta sit and fight now
00:33:23bite down your mouthpiece and you gotta fight
00:33:25all the way to the bell, all the way to the bell
00:33:28good, good, good
00:33:30good shit
00:33:31now in between rounds, just like
00:33:33you know, practice is controlling your breath
00:33:36you know, so if someone walked in off the street
00:33:37they'd be like, oh she's fresh, you know
00:33:39poker face, no matter how you feel, it's how you look, right
00:33:42I knew about Ross
00:33:45he's obviously a well-known coach
00:33:47I used to have these books around the house
00:33:49and asked him to come over for a few weeks
00:33:51for a bit of training, I just needed a big
00:33:53big change
00:33:54you know, it's not something I typically
00:33:59follow, I have never really been involved with the women's
00:34:01boxing, she wasn't someone that I
00:34:03followed regularly and knew a whole lot about
00:34:05I didn't really know where it was going to lead
00:34:07I didn't know if she was coming here just for a few weeks to get
00:34:09in shape
00:34:10you kind of like buy yourself some time in one hand
00:34:12you know, like this errand's resting
00:34:14you know, and then you're kind of like
00:34:15alright, let me switch it up
00:34:16you know, like, buy yourself a little bit of time
00:34:18you know, like, you don't have to be all like
00:34:19you know, it's just
00:34:21a little rhythm
00:34:24and calm that inner soul
00:34:28I challenged her from the first day
00:34:47I know she had flown over
00:34:49she's dealing with jet lag
00:34:50but we went hard on that Monday morning
00:34:52you're a controlled pro, you're picking your spots
00:34:55not a frenzied pace like in an amateur fight league
00:34:58pick your spots
00:34:59move
00:35:00faint
00:35:00I still think there's a lot of people that don't recognize
00:35:05the talent that exists there
00:35:07I mean, I honestly didn't previously as well
00:35:10between an athlete and a coach
00:35:11trust is obviously the most important thing
00:35:13and I just needed a big, big change
00:35:16they just had an instant bond there
00:35:19and it was the first time in a long time
00:35:21where I actually really enjoyed me boxing
00:35:22it's only when I was over here with Ross
00:35:25I was just feeling so good about myself
00:35:28it was during that time I made a decision to turn pro
00:35:30to switch over to the professional side
00:35:33it was just, it's like a whole new beginning
00:35:34Katie Taylor has signed a professional contract
00:35:37with Matchroom Boxing
00:35:38and will make her debut in the paid ranks
00:35:41later on this month
00:35:42she's a wonderful athlete
00:35:43and I think this is a huge moment
00:35:45for women's sport, women's boxing
00:35:47she set herself along a path
00:35:50fraught with danger
00:35:51in amateur boxing we're a point scoring exercise
00:35:54whereas in professional boxing
00:35:56they're really trying to knock you out
00:35:57they're trying to hurt you with every punch
00:35:59I shouldn't want it more than the fighter wants it
00:36:03you know, she wants it more than anybody
00:36:04my goal right from the start
00:36:07the minute I signed that contract
00:36:08was to have the belts and to win world titles
00:36:11and to make history in the sport
00:36:24in boxing every day
00:36:31we're battling with egos
00:36:33and politics
00:36:34and here was someone
00:36:36that really showed me the purity of the sport
00:36:39the fact that it was just about winning
00:36:41and Katie Taylor is obsessed with winning
00:36:44the real pressure for Katie Taylor
00:36:48comes from entertaining
00:36:50because the amateur game
00:36:52is not about entertainment
00:36:53and to be honest
00:36:54the pressure for Saturday
00:36:57is huge
00:36:58you only get a couple of craps
00:37:00to the non-believers
00:37:02not interested in watching a winning fight
00:37:03shouldn't even be in the ring
00:37:05does all that talk put more pressure on you
00:37:08to really go out there
00:37:09and stamp your authority
00:37:10people might think I'm on a decline
00:37:12or whatever
00:37:12but that's not the case at all
00:37:14I can't wait for that
00:37:15kind of around the game
00:37:33long time
00:37:34with Brian Peter's promotions
00:37:35had a good run
00:37:36quit while you're ahead
00:37:37I was out of boxing
00:37:38I was finished
00:37:39gone
00:37:40then I got a phone call
00:37:42it always starts
00:37:43Bridget, Katie's mother
00:37:45look, I have no interest getting involved
00:37:48best of luck
00:37:49she was going completely into the unknown
00:37:51before the sit down with Katie
00:37:55I wasn't sure it could be done
00:37:56and
00:37:57you know
00:37:59ten minutes
00:38:00with Katie
00:38:01I believed
00:38:02it could definitely be done
00:38:04just something kind of clicks
00:38:08and all of a sudden
00:38:09you're no, no
00:38:10hold on a second
00:38:11yes
00:38:12I suppose my job
00:38:16is to get the whole world
00:38:18to believe really
00:38:19exactly that same thing
00:38:20isn't it
00:38:20that she is special
00:38:21which I believe they will
00:38:22she now makes her professional debut
00:38:26Katie Taylor
00:38:27the TV exposure is crucial
00:38:35to get her the good billing
00:38:36on the bills
00:38:37we got this first show coming up
00:38:39after getting this
00:38:40you have the pressure of performing
00:38:41and it's to meet expectations
00:38:43which
00:38:43Katie's pretty good at that
00:38:45now you've got to say
00:38:46Katie performs
00:38:49that's really the key
00:38:50there's a few scriptures
00:39:01I don't want to give you a scripture overload
00:39:02but I just felt as if there was a few
00:39:04that I didn't want to leave
00:39:04I need them out
00:39:05and I know you're struggling with sleep
00:39:07and that's yours in the week
00:39:09God says
00:39:10God says come to me
00:39:11all you who are weary
00:39:12and heavy laden
00:39:13and I will give you rest
00:39:14and also to cast
00:39:16all your anxiety on him
00:39:17because he cares for you
00:39:18and just to meditate
00:39:21on them scriptures
00:39:22okay
00:39:23before you
00:39:23get down to the arena
00:39:24again
00:39:27again just lift those burdens
00:39:28that are for Father God
00:39:29and whatever the reason
00:39:30of the lack of sleep
00:39:31that you'll feel your presence
00:39:33tonight Lord
00:39:33in Jesus Christ's name
00:39:35Amen
00:39:35let's go
00:40:05she has dominated
00:40:07and went into amateur boxing
00:40:08for over a decade
00:40:10making her professional debut
00:40:12Katie Saylor
00:40:15she's getting through to Kapinski here
00:40:23she can fire
00:40:25she's a monster
00:40:26she's a fighter
00:40:27look at the way she puts her shots together
00:40:29that's boy punching
00:40:31there's not much coming back
00:40:35he's going to jump in any time now
00:40:38and there he goes
00:40:40and that's a good start
00:40:41the wider boxing public
00:40:45maybe haven't seen her
00:40:46and if they haven't seen her before
00:40:47they've seen her now
00:40:49we needed a good start tonight
00:40:51forget women's boxing
00:40:52forget men's boxing
00:40:53it's just boxing
00:40:54and Katie Saylor can fight
00:40:56she's tough as fuck too
00:41:00she went
00:41:01she's very good
00:41:03that's what she said
00:41:04and the great thing was
00:41:06three rounds
00:41:07I was thinking in a second
00:41:08I was thinking in a second
00:41:08but just one more round
00:41:10third round stopping
00:41:11I think we're going to go nuts
00:41:13with that
00:41:14wow
00:41:14with all this everyone slapping you on the back
00:41:16feet on your ground dear lady
00:41:18long way to go

00:41:30that was
00:41:31I enjoyed it
00:41:33well yeah
00:41:34but I enjoyed it
00:41:35because I'm sending all these
00:41:36noughts in the distance
00:41:37and they're getting closer
00:41:38and that at the end of the day
00:41:39is what boxing's all about
00:41:40it's a great sport
00:41:41but you look at that house
00:41:43on a hill
00:41:44and you say
00:41:44I've got six more like this
00:41:46somewhere
00:41:46and then you know
00:41:47you've been successful
00:41:48you'll make you the money
00:41:49I'm sure of that
00:41:50because he's a mercenary bastard

00:42:00yeah I think it wasn't much
00:42:05to be honest
00:42:05but
00:42:05it's only a third place
00:42:07to get the first line out
00:42:08the pressure that you got to this week
00:42:10yeah
00:42:11it was a lot of pressure
00:42:13but it definitely did a while
00:42:14yeah
00:42:14it's only a third
00:42:17yeah
00:42:18oh that's brilliant

00:42:52as a pro boxer
00:42:53so she's going out to the states
00:42:54now again for the weekend
00:42:55so she won't be back for a while
00:42:57so it'll be the last time
00:42:58we'll be together
00:42:59it's a big house
00:43:00to be rattling around
00:43:01on your own
00:43:01so
00:43:01sad
00:43:02sad
00:43:03but I'll be okay
00:43:05home alone
00:43:07I'm actually not very good
00:43:09at keeping in touch with people
00:43:10have I?
00:43:11you do keep in touch
00:43:12that's the worst way though
00:43:16because you always get the worst version
00:43:18oh yeah
00:43:18oh yeah
00:43:19how's Katie?
00:43:23oh I'm not sure now
00:43:25she's very quiet
00:43:26and then you ask Katie
00:43:29how are you
00:43:29and she's like
00:43:30yeah great
00:43:30everything's going great
00:43:31you weren't enjoying it as much
00:43:37as you used to
00:43:38the amateur
00:43:39so it was
00:43:40definitely lost my passion for it
00:43:42yeah
00:43:42and that's when you know
00:43:43it's fine
00:43:44but obviously
00:43:45from a
00:43:46taking big shots point of view
00:43:49the stakes are higher
00:43:51and do you like watching the fights
00:43:52nanny?
00:43:53love watching the fights
00:43:55get so overjoyed
00:43:57yeah so this is a trophy room
00:44:21but here's a more
00:44:22as a storage room really
00:44:24we actually never come into this room
00:44:26I actually don't know
00:44:27what half of this stuff here is really
00:44:29the one thing that is missing
00:44:32that Olympic gold medal from Rio
00:44:34that's all I think about really
00:44:35that's why I just
00:44:36I don't know what it is
00:44:38I guess it's eating away at my mind
00:44:39like
00:44:40I don't know how to get over
00:44:42it's such a big disappointment really
00:44:44yeah I don't know what's wrong
00:44:46there was a lot going on during that time
00:44:51and a lot of obviously family problems and stuff
00:44:53having that belt around me race
00:44:55as a world champion would definitely
00:44:56I definitely feel like that would
00:45:00maybe ease the pain of Rio
00:45:04but we'll see
00:45:06it's probably the worst part about being over here on my own
00:45:25not having my mommy here to cook for me
00:45:27she actually wrote a lot of it down for me
00:45:29in this little book here
00:45:31so it's embarrassing really
00:45:33I'm not very domesticated
00:45:35I think cooking's very overrated
00:45:37to be quiet on us
00:45:38my mom actually put that up before she left
00:45:42because I kept forgetting to lock the door
00:45:44how much garlic do I have to put in
00:45:49I think that's enough of it
00:45:51now what do I do
00:45:54am I supposed to see
00:45:56that's what I'm supposed to do
00:45:58every Sunday I just go to one of the local churches
00:46:12it's the only thing really I have on the Sunday really at the moment
00:46:15I'm not very good at like going up and talking to people
00:46:18like I probably should have just forced yourself to
00:46:21to be a bit more sociable
00:46:24I just usually go in and just go back out again after the service
00:46:28so
00:46:28yeah
00:46:31I have to start making a few friends
00:46:34jam through the right hand
00:46:39loop it around the side of my head
00:46:40bigger hurt her with it
00:46:42stop her with it
00:46:44do it again we're fighting now
00:46:47come on
00:46:49here in a 10 round fight
00:46:53sometimes first couple rounds
00:46:55it's more about just winning and getting a feel for the fight
00:46:58you know
00:46:58but even sometimes it's bar
00:47:00like you know you do come out
00:47:01you know like you're real aggressive
00:47:02you know or sometimes it's like
00:47:03you gotta just kind of navigate to the round a little bit
00:47:06you know like you know fuck the crowd
00:47:07you know
00:47:07promoter wants wars
00:47:11like you know
00:47:11you just gotta win
00:47:13sometimes I mean you know
00:47:15you want to be exciting
00:47:16but at the end of the day
00:47:16you fucking win and you move on
00:47:18bye sweetheart
00:47:21good seeing you again
00:47:22her move to the states was traumatic in some way
00:47:52it's like the loneliness
00:47:53maybe was a worry for me
00:47:55just not having anybody around
00:47:56yeah I haven't got any family around
00:48:06or friends around
00:48:07and I think just the emotions from over the last year as well
00:48:10in tough days it is difficult
00:48:12I know that this is where I need to be
00:48:34and I know that this is what I have to do to get to where I want to be really
00:48:39no rest for the wicked at the moment
00:48:41no rest for the wicked at the moment eh
00:48:42no rest for the wicked at the moment eh
00:48:46no rest for the wicked at the moment eh
00:48:51no I know yeah it's great
00:48:53it's a step up this one
00:48:55yeah it's a big step up again
00:48:57what's the beim be on this Wembley hopefully
00:49:00Wembley and then probably a wee bit stateside
00:49:02Eddie wants it sooner but like there's still there's a lot of clever fighters out there a lot of experience
00:49:06Sì, è stato un grande step up.
00:49:08Quale è la parola di questo?
00:49:10Wembley, spero?
00:49:11Wembley e poi magari un po' di state side.
00:49:14Eddie vuole più tardi.
00:49:15Ma c'è ancora un po' di esperienza.
00:49:19E hanno un po' di combattere.
00:49:21Perché quando si muove up to that fast lane,
00:49:23non puoi stare off.
00:49:26È il tuo grande momento.
00:49:27Si stanno chiedendo per me,
00:49:28ma non c'è nessun modo.
00:49:30Quindi, per te stesso, Ross.
00:49:32Non ti vuoi fare, Ross?
00:49:34We'll just go abroad, you and me, come on with you. Best of luck.
00:49:40Ahead of this huge night of boxing is card stacked from top to bottom with heavyweight grudge matches, with world championship fights, with I believe one of the most exciting young fighters in world boxing.
00:49:50We had the debut a couple of weeks ago and then every promoter from around the world is saying, can we get Katie Taylor on our show?
00:49:55And the punches were reigning in, the variety, the power, the speed.
00:50:08Two wins out for two in the paid ranks, the future shines very brightly indeed for Katie Taylor.
00:50:15You find such a gone pro that the old issues are coming back. People say, no, sure, everyone goes to the bar who are in a box, you know, that nobody has any interest in.
00:50:22We can't afford fights that aren't entertaining.
00:50:28Now, there's careers at stake. The pressure's on.
00:50:31Oh, beautiful shot there with a left hand. It's Katie Taylor who oozes class.
00:50:37Wow.
00:50:38And she is marching towards a world title shot.
00:50:43The fighting part is obviously the fun part. It's just getting used to all these press conferences. I'm still not too comfortable with it, I don't think.
00:50:49You can't rush into a world title fight, obviously. You know, it takes time. There's women out there who have 30-plus pro fights, you know, where they're sitting down in the trenches with no head here and fighting for 10 rounds.
00:51:00Yeah, you want to be exciting, but we want to be smart, too.
00:51:03Got to keep with it. Snakes and ladders. You lose.
00:51:05Ooh.
00:51:08And this is a bloody shot. What a lovely shot there. She really is something very, very special.
00:51:16That was a legit knockdown. I hurt her bad. You know, like, that's all I was out. You see, that's nice. It's better.
00:51:23Introverted, media shy. Her preference would be to keep in the shadows.
00:51:28Your opponent is undefeated like yourself. What can the fans expect?
00:51:32There is pressure there. You have to sell yourself.
00:51:34Ever since I've learned from each time, the OK just seems to be getting bigger and better.
00:51:38I just want that world title and that belt around your waist. I'm willing and ready to fight whoever, really.
00:51:43They've got to get bums on seat. They've got to track TV. And without that, they're not going to get paid.
00:51:48This is tougher than a five.
00:51:50Katie's great playing. Pressure is a privilege, but, like, she's got to perform tonight.
00:51:55Get that girl out of there is what we're looking in the later rounds.
00:51:57I want her going back to the corner, not where she's going to fight.
00:52:00Sharp, sharp, sharp.
00:52:02Thanks for jazz when you're coming forward.
00:52:03Make her think about something.
00:52:06There you go.
00:52:08Yeah. Nice shot.
00:52:16Fantastic foot, young laddie.
00:52:17Good deep breath. Good deep breath.
00:52:19This is a perfect step up. America is next. You must box out there.
00:52:23You've got the American networks here. I can see them sitting over there, and they're all over me to get.
00:52:27Katie Tyler on board.
00:52:31So what did you give yourself out of ten?
00:52:35No, no, no. Come on. Don't be so hard on yourself.
00:52:38You're too hard. I mean, it's good to be critical, but not...
00:52:42No.
00:52:42That's...
00:52:43A bit and a half?
00:52:44No.
00:52:45Shut up.
00:52:45I don't know.
00:52:46Big win on a big stage.
00:52:48All things considered now, real good performance.
00:52:50The fifth pro fight, there's still so much more to come.
00:52:54What do we get to? We got to a six out of ten. Which fight was six out of ten?
00:52:58You said six for one of them.
00:52:59All right, well, let's do a cheers.
00:53:07All right, cheers to the champs.
00:53:08Well done, Katie.
00:53:09Well done, Katie.
00:53:10Well done, Katie.
00:53:10Woo-hoo.
00:53:11Yeah, we all go to the fights.
00:53:15Susan and Anna were at the fight at the weekend.
00:53:18Laura was as well.
00:53:20And Eve usually goes to all the fights because she had a wedding to go to.
00:53:22Being with me through tickets and I think...
00:53:24Oh, it's not.
00:53:25Oh, it's not.
00:53:26Oh, it's not.
00:53:27Seriously, like, you's actually kept it going for me that week.
00:53:32Honestly, like, I wouldn't have got through the week in Rio if you was having me in there.
00:53:36Like, I think we met with you straight away after the final.
00:53:41It was just, I think we just cried together, didn't we, for, like, an hour or so.
00:53:45And then we were thinking, oh, my God, we're here.
00:53:47We're here for the next eight nights.
00:53:48We've got our semi-final and our final tickets.
00:53:50What have we got to do?
00:53:51Yeah.
00:53:52That's all you were worried about.
00:53:53I was like, mid-team's here.
00:53:54I was like, it's up.
00:53:55Yeah.
00:53:57The bronze medal champ.
00:53:58Wow.
00:53:59Yeah, I went through it the whole year last year being called the bronze medal champ.
00:54:03Oh, you're back on top now.
00:54:05You're all right.
00:54:05Back on top, thank God.
00:54:07There's a lot of room for improvement, which is great as well.
00:54:10There is chicken, there is.
00:54:13There is.
00:54:15Yeah.
00:54:17Seriously.
00:54:18Ben, over our hand.
00:54:41Shoot it.
00:54:42Up.
00:54:43Right to the chest.
00:54:44You're good, Kitty.
00:54:45Good.
00:54:46Good.
00:54:49Well, I find a very tough train in this heat, because I'm just not used to it.
00:54:54I actually missed the snow at this stage.
00:54:56You know, every fight, I think she's, you know, growing as a professional.
00:55:04It's like this fight, we don't know who we're fighting, so it's kind of hard to prepare for
00:55:07anything specifically, so you just kind of got to work on everything.
00:55:09You know, the longer they wait, the harder it is to find somebody.
00:55:14It's like happened a couple of times already.
00:55:17It's becoming the norm.
00:55:19They make a big deal about fighting in America.
00:55:23They're not even putting it on TV in America.
00:55:24They don't have a fucking opponent.
00:55:26It's like, what was the point?
00:55:27Could I already have a fight?
00:55:28I don't think I've ever gone through a small camp, really, before a big fight.
00:55:38There's always some battle that you have to go through.
00:55:42In the last few months, I've had a wrist injury and had to get a cortisol injection.
00:55:46It just hurts on the impact, and it's just been an ongoing problem for the last few years.
00:55:53Wear and tear, you say it?
00:55:54We're old age.
00:55:58She just doesn't like having to take time off, so if she has to miss a session, to her, it's a big deal,
00:56:05because you're building towards your fight, and every training session counts.
00:56:11Mentally, that's the most important thing to her, is our preparation.
00:56:24When she said she was going pro, I was surprised.
00:56:27I didn't think there was enough out there for her to make a living as a professional boxer.
00:56:32But I'm still not persuaded.
00:56:36She's struggling to get opponents.
00:56:40You know, so you're not, like, doing this.
00:56:42It's more like, bah, bah.
00:56:44So the right hand's kind of bringing you closer.
00:56:45There's still a road to go worldwide to get it accepted as a pro sport, even in terms of earning potential.
00:56:54Like, Katie, while she was still an amateur, was in the top ten all-time earners of women boxers.
00:56:58A lot of the sponsors, it's the Olympic dream that they believe in, and it kind of starts and finishes with the Olympics.
00:57:06So a lot of her sponsors actually dropped off.
00:57:08It's just another challenge for her, you know?
00:57:16It's just another one of these things that she has to fight against.
00:57:20She has to fight for a position in professional boxing.
00:57:23She's still fighting to get recognition.
00:57:26She's still fighting for the same things that she was fighting for as an 11-year-old when she started out boxing.
00:57:39The fans and you seem to have found out your opponent on the same day.
00:57:42Yeah, I think there's a lot of great girls out there.
00:57:44They just need to obviously make the fights happen, and I'm not interested in any, you know, kind of padded records.
00:57:49I want to get in and box the best and fight the best.
00:57:53Thank you!
00:57:56I love to get to a point where I'm a household name worldwide, and I'd love to be inspired, you know, young girls coming up as well.
00:58:19Well done, Jess, thank you.
00:58:21Well done, Jess.
00:58:23Well done.
00:58:23Very good.
00:58:30First media workout.
00:58:32Yeah, first media workout.
00:58:33She was going to act for it.
00:58:36She was going to act for it.
00:58:39From Cedar Hill, Texas, please welcome Jasmine Clarkson.
00:58:44Jasmine Clarkson.
00:58:45This was crazy to get an opponent.
00:58:47They don't want to fight her.
00:58:48They got excuses.
00:58:49Not enough time.
00:58:50You know, a lot of female fighters, I think they're happy to be trudging along.
00:58:54Katie wants to fight everyone.
00:58:55Anyone.
00:58:56Anyone around her weight division.
00:58:57She will fight them.
00:58:58This fight isn't about positioning ourselves for a well-dark fight.
00:59:03This fight is about getting some USA time.
00:59:05Even though Katie's opponent tonight should be rooting for her, I guarantee you, everyone watching will still say, wow.
00:59:12And that's the difference.
00:59:13The problem is with Katie, she wants to constantly be challenged.
00:59:16These trading water fights, these run-out fights don't necessarily infuse her.
00:59:20It's over, Katie, well done.
00:59:43Let's go, Katie.
00:59:45Let's go.
00:59:45Good job, Katie.
00:59:50Good job, Katie.
00:59:53Good job, Katie.
00:59:57Good job, Katie.
00:59:57How are you tickets when you go on, right?
00:59:59Yeah.
00:59:59Good?
01:00:00Good.
01:00:00Beautiful link there, ladies.
01:00:02They look good.
01:00:03Thank you.
01:00:04Thank you.
01:00:05Thank you very much.
01:00:09You have to give me the check for the flight.
01:00:12I can't find them.
01:00:13Oh, yeah.
01:00:15What I make of it, we're all just a little bit, I suppose, disappointed.
01:00:24You obviously would like to have a little more opposition just to keep advancing.
01:00:29Like, they're all bitching.
01:00:30They don't get a break.
01:00:31They're not getting fights.
01:00:32They're not getting treated equal because they're not fucking fighting.
01:00:34The girls are always saying they're not getting the opportunities, and when the opportunities
01:00:37do come along, they should be jumping at those opportunities.
01:00:40It seems like with the win, there's a huge gap.
01:00:42It's like you've got lower level, and then all of a sudden, it's like they're up here.
01:00:46There's not much middle ground.
01:00:47Have bigger challenges to get ready for the title fights.
01:00:50I think it'll be great to box in America again.
01:01:03Definitely.
01:01:04No, I think it was super.
01:01:05And the way, you know, you were received, and they get higher up the card, and obviously
01:01:10they get on the main TV, the mainstream TV.
01:01:12But the opponent has to be good for that, which the last one wasn't.
01:01:15You were nearly willing to fight for free to get a proper opponent, which people wouldn't
01:01:19understand.
01:01:21Do you know?
01:01:21Do you remember saying that?
01:01:22I do remember that.
01:01:24Oh, that's a surprise.
01:01:25I got a check out for the fight.
01:01:27Did you see this other Michaela one?
01:01:28She's doing, like, they're all...
01:01:31Vision.
01:01:31Yeah.
01:01:32There's another fighter by the name of Katie Taylor.
01:01:34Oh, yeah, we know each other.
01:01:36And he trained her for years, so people wanted to see us match up in the amateur's,
01:01:41never happened, so it's going to happen in the first place.
01:01:42Did she ever spot her or anything like that?
01:01:44But it's great, though, isn't it?
01:01:46Fantastic.
01:01:47Like, there was none of this, Katie.
01:01:49So this is the lovely Jessica McCaskill.
01:01:55We're looking for one Katie Taylor, missing persons.
01:01:59If you know the whereabouts, please contact Team McCaskill.
01:02:04We are looking to make the fight that people will not forget.
01:02:07Let's make it happen.
01:02:09What is she?
01:02:10Five in one at the moment?
01:02:11The biggest thing she's done is call you out.
01:02:12She's only six fights in, like, in two years.
01:02:14I know.
01:02:15What the hell?
01:02:15Yeah.
01:02:16You know, what's...
01:02:17The other she thinks she is, so...
01:02:18Exactly.
01:02:18Yeah, so...
01:02:20They call anyone out.
01:02:21Exactly, yeah.
01:02:22I'll get word to her anyway.
01:02:23Yeah.
01:02:24You know, just keep winning, pick up a few wins, don't get feckin' beat,
01:02:27and there's certainly a good payday and a good hiding there for you down the road.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:31Yeah.
01:02:31Yeah.
01:02:31Yeah.
01:02:31Yeah.
01:02:31Yeah.
01:02:32Yeah.
01:02:33Yeah.
01:02:33Yeah.
01:02:34Yeah.
01:02:35Yeah.
01:02:35Yeah.
01:02:36Yeah.
01:02:37Brian, Eddie, how are you?
01:02:47Edward, I have Katie with me, so please mind your language.
01:02:50Oh.
01:02:51Oh, blimey.
01:02:53Hey, Eddie.
01:02:54Hi, Katie.
01:02:55How are you?
01:02:56Are you sitting down?
01:02:58We've done it.
01:02:59We've got the deal.
01:03:00WBA world title, October 28th, Millennium Stadium, on the AJ card.
01:03:04That option is very much available as something that I want to do.
01:03:08Super.
01:03:09Super.
01:03:09That can be a world title for you if you want it, which I think it should be.
01:03:14That'll be perfect.
01:03:15That's great.
01:03:16Yeah.
01:03:16You see how much do you get to fight for a world title?
01:03:19It's got to be a nice big chunk of money.
01:03:21How much do you get after that?
01:03:22Yeah.
01:03:22And where do we box?
01:03:24You ready for that?
01:03:26Good.
01:03:26Let's go and win this belt.
01:03:27Yeah.
01:03:28Thanks a lot.
01:03:28Thanks a lot, Eddie.
01:03:29Bye.
01:03:29Bye.
01:03:30Bye.
01:03:30Bye-bye.
01:03:31Bye-bye.
01:03:31Why in the name of fuck would you need me talking?
01:03:34I don't talk as good as that man.
01:03:35I don't look as good as that man.
01:03:37And my words don't carry as much weight.
01:03:39So how can you beat that man for talking?
01:03:40That's great, isn't it?
01:03:41Great.
01:03:41It's exciting.
01:03:42Yeah, it is exciting.
01:03:44When promoters put a show together, you've got the main event.
01:03:46And then underneath that, you have fight number two, three.
01:03:48Sometimes even 90% of the money is spent on them three fights.
01:03:51Oh, yeah.
01:03:51So we have to be in that magic little three fights, you know?
01:03:56I just want to get us up to a nice, comfortable six-figure sum regularly.
01:04:01And no, don't be smiling like that.
01:04:03I couldn't have you sitting there with Eddie like that.
01:04:07You have gray hairs there, is there?
01:04:08I don't know.
01:04:09I actually have a lot of gray hairs.
01:04:11It's already there.
01:04:12It's from the stressful year since I turned pro.
01:04:15It's 31 hours today, man.
01:04:16This kind of lifestyle suits me.
01:04:35I think nice and quiet and peaceful.
01:04:39That's a good question, actually.
01:04:41What am I going to do after?
01:04:42I probably should start thinking about it a bit more, but sometimes I think I'm a bit
01:04:53too single-minded where I only kind of think about the next fight.
01:04:57I'm not too sure whether I want to get married, whether I want to have kids, whether I don't
01:05:02think I'd be able for that.
01:05:05I can hardly look after myself.
01:05:06I mean, I've definitely had opportunities where I've been in relationships with guys
01:05:13and stuff, but it's never really worked out.
01:05:16They just weren't the right guy, I guess.
01:05:18And I always felt like life was a lot easier as a single person when I am training so much.
01:05:24And I'm very, very happy as a single person as well, and I don't regret any decisions that
01:05:29I've made.
01:05:29Definitely in a good spot.
01:05:43Still got a month to go.
01:05:44I feel like she could fight right now.
01:05:47I think when she first turned pro, everyone was talking about what happened in Rio, where
01:05:51now we've moved on from the amateurs fighting for a world title, so everything's on the up.
01:05:55The first time we held the pads together, she was kind of like, touch and go, touch and
01:05:59go.
01:06:00She's definitely sitting down, her punch is better, plants her feet, she's trying to land
01:06:04big shots.
01:06:08Ever since I turned pro, this is where I wanted to be.
01:06:11Big title fights, and I feel good about me boxing at the moment, which is a huge thing
01:06:15for me.
01:06:16This girl's a world champion, she just won the world title.
01:06:21She's not going to come over and just hand it away.
01:06:24You know, see, you can see she's going forward, she's pressing the attack.
01:06:27She's game, she's going to fight until the referee says she can't.
01:06:31She's a world champion, she's got a full camp, and she's coming to win.
01:06:33She's a world champion, she's a world champion, she's a world champion, she's a world champion.
01:06:49You all right?
01:06:50How are you?
01:06:50Good.
01:06:51You all right?
01:06:51Yeah, not too bad.
01:06:56You don't want to look like something's not right.
01:06:59Face yourself, like, I put the gloves on.
01:07:02We do a round and a half, they tell us to get out, we're done.
01:07:09Two weeks ago, she picked up some form of flu.
01:07:12She hasn't trained in, done very little training in 10 days.
01:07:18Which, for Katie, that's unimaginable.
01:07:20One of the best, for the right, in the right, Kennedy, Lerner!
01:07:32Deep down, she feels that, you know, not to fight on a card like this, it's just too big an opportunity, too much on the line.
01:07:40She's really third on the bill, which is massive.
01:07:44Everyone's here, Showtime here, HBO are here, there's massive press.
01:07:47Potentially, what Katie does could change the face of women's professional boxing forever.
01:07:54This is quite a poor title show.
01:07:56Yeah.
01:07:57You guys are talking a year, year and a half.
01:07:59Yeah.
01:08:01That's great.
01:08:02These opportunities come, you've got to take them, too, you know.
01:08:05We're definitely giving this fight exposure.
01:08:07Yeah.
01:08:07All right, good to see you.
01:08:08Good luck.
01:08:08See you later.
01:08:09All right, good luck.
01:08:09Thank you very much.
01:08:10Thank you.
01:08:11All right, good luck.
01:08:12Are you still a couple of minutes with Coogan?
01:08:13Is that all right?
01:08:14I just want to talk to him in there to be real quick.
01:08:16I'll be down.
01:08:17Okay.
01:08:19Hey, yeah.
01:08:20You know we haven't trained in, like, a week.
01:08:22Like, we haven't trained in a fucking week.
01:08:24If we go all night here, this shit's not going to fucking matter.
01:08:28Yeah.
01:08:28Well, I know you like it, but keep going.
01:08:33Fuck training.
01:08:38Katie, she isn't trained in 10 days.
01:08:43She isn't trained in 10 days.
01:08:45Well, it's just revealing us.
01:08:47Yeah.
01:08:49Everybody's thinking that she come to lift the bell, and everybody, I can tell you, is wrong.
01:08:57I believe that this time, honestly, I believe she's not prepared for what is coming on Saturday.
01:09:03It'd be a dark night for Katie.
01:09:06So be prepared.
01:09:08She has all the tools that it takes to win this fight.
01:09:15Trust me in that one.
01:09:16And the best tool is the experience that Katie doesn't have.
01:09:24The day before the huge event and a huge amount of expectation surrounding Katie Taylor.
01:09:29How is the woman herself 24 hours before her huge fight?
01:09:32She's as cool, calm, and collective as ever.
01:09:35She's great.
01:09:35She's a consummate pro, you know, and just looking forward to getting on with it, really, now.
01:09:39I have said to work time and time again.
01:09:48There's no point in forwarding your health for one fight.
01:09:51From a mother's perspective, I'm more concerned about her well-being.
01:09:57She is prepared for a good 10 hard rounds, you know, and you need to be in good health for that kind of a fight.
01:10:05Oh, Lord, I pray now for Katie tonight, Lord God, from this moment, Father God, before she even leaves this room, that your angels, Lord God, will be summoned, Lord God.
01:10:16That they will be posted around our Lord God, you will guard and protect her now in all our ways, Lord God.
01:10:24She has to win this world out of the fight because she's staked so much on it.
01:10:29If she loses this, she is on the trajectory of Rio.
01:10:34Oh, Lord, I pray for supernatural strength for her.
01:10:36I pray for accuracy in our punching, Father God.
01:10:38I pray that she will rise up.
01:10:40You know, a Katie at 70% in against a world champion makes it a lot, lot riskier fight.
01:10:51What percentage of the real Katie Taylor is going to turn up?
01:11:02Thank you, I'm trying to cry in there.
01:11:05Oh, again, oh, again.
01:11:09Thank you.
01:11:09That's great, son.
01:11:11Jesus, thank you, Lord.
01:11:12Thank you.
01:11:14Thank you.
01:11:14Thank you.
01:11:17What does it say?
01:11:18Destiny for greatness.
01:11:20Destiny for greatness.
01:11:22Yes, you are.
01:11:22Thank you.
01:11:39Be well tonight.
01:12:01You'll be winning this easy if you just do what you're supposed to do, right?
01:12:04I just got to, you know, get that respect early.
01:12:13You know, make her go back to the corner.
01:12:14Why the fuck am I here, you know?
01:12:16Best thing you want to do is go into the corner.
01:12:18Like, okay, you know, I can hang here.
01:12:19I belong.
01:12:20Ireland's heroine and women's sporting icon Katie Taylor with her first acid test as a pro.
01:12:35Can she win a world title less than a year since turning professional?
01:12:52Good luck, baby.
01:12:57This is where we find out a lot about Katie Taylor.
01:13:00Is this the moment?
01:13:01Good boy shot from Katie Taylor, downgun Sanchez, and she really fell down.
01:13:17What a perfectly placed punch from the Irish star.
01:13:22And Katie Taylor with a massive breakthrough here.
01:13:25And Taylor going for it, and she's on the very verge of being coronated.
01:13:30And Katie Taylor, there's a score for her.
01:13:32Oh, beautiful right hand.
01:13:34She nearly went.
01:13:38You hurt her for the body.
01:13:39If you keep touching the liver, do not get into the fight.
01:13:45There's a couple of nice countercultures coming back there from Sanchez.
01:13:51Sanchez and another right hand.
01:13:53And Taylor's chin just exposed there.
01:13:56This really is give and take.
01:14:00Sanchez very much in this, don't get me wrong.
01:14:04It's Ayla knows that she's in a fight here.
01:14:10You're getting a little wide with the body step.
01:14:11You've got to tighten it up a little back.
01:14:13No more going straight back, though.
01:14:14You're giving it to make it.
01:14:15When you're done, I want you turning it, or I want you stepping off.
01:14:18Every time.
01:14:19This is where we're sucking up, like we're running on the mountain.
01:14:21We've got to put our foot on the gas, all right?
01:14:23We're too strong, we can stop.
01:14:24We're too strong.
01:14:42We're too strong.
01:14:43Full Keep point from Taylor.
01:14:46Grazie a tutti.

01:19:12Yeah.
01:19:13Yeah.
01:19:14Yeah.
01:19:15I don't know what her life after boxing looks like, it's quite a scary thought, because with the void of boxing, what will she do?
01:19:31Like she's probably quite disappointed now that she's going to have a month off, I just get the impression after three or four days she's bored and she wants to go back into camp.
01:19:45In terms of your dad and so on, is that something you see, recognising?
01:19:52I met up with my dad a few weeks ago actually and it was a great meeting, it was the first time I've seen him in over a year I think.
01:20:04It was just great to be able to kind of sit down and talk with him.
01:20:08But everything I know is a boxer paying for my dad.
01:20:13He might not be on my team, but he's obviously a huge part of who I am today.
01:20:22You know, he was definitely a hero to myself.
01:20:29And I think that is the start of restoration, but it is definitely a process.
01:20:35I mean, I'm always very hopeful that things are going to turn out well and I think it's so important to have the hope and we will see how it goes.
01:20:49It's a great time, for me so much for me with my family!
01:20:51That's what I do.
01:20:53I think it's good to have the way to marry my dad.
01:20:56It doesn't matter I think it's so important to have the way I go.
01:20:58But my friend, I've been on my house.
01:21:00I must feel a bit, I need to have the idea of my dad when he came to dinner and me.
01:21:02I know, that's what I do.
01:21:03I wish I had a little bit of work.
01:21:05I mean, I think it's just great.
01:21:06Grazie a tutti.
01:21:36Grazie a tutti.
