Today, we can’t imagine a normal life without using a phone. From emails and texting to phone calls, learning, or watching videos on social media, our daily routines are deeply tied to these devices.
Back in the day, social media interfaces were simple, but as time passed, they became highly addictive and problematic.
According to a report published by Exploding Topics:
“On average, people spend about 4 hours and 37 minutes on their phones each day. This translates to roughly 70 days of phone usage per year. The amount of time spent on phones varies by age, with younger generations spending more time on their devices than older ones.”
As more people recognize the negative effects of excessive phone use on mental health, many are now turning to dumb phones (yes, you heard that right!).
In some parts of the world, individuals have even created phone-free clubs where people can hang out without their devices to reconnect with others. The purpose of these clubs or events is to create an atmosphere where people can experience what it feels like to live—even briefly—without a phone.
At a time when excessive social media use has been linked to rising anxiety and depression, initiatives like these have become a welcome change.
