00:00Yeah, and you're right to point out that we're not talking about numbers, we're talking about human beings.

00:04It even helps sometimes to give them an identity.

00:07I was reading about a 17-year-old boy, his name is Taisir Mansour, living in constant pain.

00:14He's been in pain for a year.

00:16He suffered severe burns when an Israeli missile struck his home, destroyed his home, killed his mother, injured his siblings.

00:25His situation is now getting worse every day, we're told, because he hasn't got adequate access to medical care.

00:32Both his hands might now need to be amputated, and at the same time, he's got limited access to food and medicine.

00:38I mean, it's a horrific series of events.

00:43How common is that kind of a story, do you think?

00:46You know, sadly, this story isn't just heart-wrenching by itself.

00:52The sad reality is that this is not a unique case, it is not an exception.

00:58I have interviewed dozens of children myself inside Gaza, children who are severely ill, children who have been severely injured in bombardments,

01:07who have been lucky enough to survive the airstrike, but then are unable to access the medical care that they need,

01:16because of the stress that the health system is under, hospitals themselves have been turned into battle zones.

01:24They face very severe shortages of medicines, and there's just this constant flow of severely injured people day in, day out.

01:34I also want to point out that we're talking about injured children, injured civilians,

01:40but the reality is that injured doesn't really cover the extent of the injuries that people have very often.

01:50I've seen children who've had their limbs amputated.

01:53I've seen children who've been burned on very large parts of their bodies.

01:57We're not just talking about a couple of scratches.

02:00We're talking about children who will likely have to cope for the rest of their lives with their injuries.

02:06So, sadly, this is a common reality for children and their parents in Gaza.

02:13It's the daily struggle of the doctors and the nurses who try to save people's lives without having the means to do so, really.

02:22This is also why it's important that more countries in the world take in severely injured patients from Gaza

02:33and severely ill patients with pre-existing medical conditions.

02:38The hospital system needs to be rehabilitated, but until that's the case, people risk dying right now.

02:46They're dying in waiting.

02:47They can't afford to wait.

02:50So, it's important that more people from the Gaza Strip, especially child patients, can get medically evacuated.
