00:00When the mind is angry, jealous or unhappy, negative thoughts first start to arise in the mind, why is that?
00:11No, but first tell me, why does the mind get angry? It is because...
00:15When we have a desire that a person should behave in a certain way and they don't, then we get angry.
00:29Then we get angry. We should have a different mindset and should reflect on how our own behavior should be.
00:36When my children are not behaving properly, when my wife is behaving unfavorably, then how should I behave?
00:43I should not get angry. We should not get angry and deal with every situation with a lot of patience, seriousness and a lot of love.
00:51Getting angry only makes the situation worse. It does not remedy anything.
00:56When we get angry, then instead of coming to a resolution, things get worse and we may do something that gets us embroiled in more complexity or legal trouble.
01:05So at that time, we should be chanting the holy name to correct our mindset.
01:09Unless we correct our mindset, things can go very wrong.
01:13And you can see that prisons are filled with people who acted on their rage and committed violence or acted out of lust or committed theft out of greed and then end up in jail.
01:23This is what happens when you are unable to control your anger and commit actions which harm you.
01:28Therefore, to be able to have the strength to control our mind in such instances, we have to have the power of devotion, bhajan.
01:35Practicing devotion has a lot of potency.
01:38We will not be able to change anybody with our anger.
01:42We can only change them with our humility, patience and love.
01:46One time, Swami Eknarji from Maharashtra took a bath in Gangaji.
01:51Upon his return, he passed by a match and belonged to a person from another religion.
01:55He saw a devotee coming and he spit on the devotee.
01:59Eknarji took a bath again.
02:01He spit again.
02:02This was the only route Eknarji could take.
02:05This happened a hundred times and he took a bath a hundred times.
02:10After a hundred times, this person who was misbehaving gave up, came down with folded hands and asked for forgiveness.
02:17And Eknarji said, why are you asking for forgiveness?
02:20He said, I spit on you a hundred times.
02:22It is an offense.
02:23Eknarji said, no, you were very merciful to me.
02:26I would have taken a bath from Gangaji once in a day, but because of you, I took a bath a hundred times.
02:31This is your mercy.
02:33That person fell to Eknarji's feet and said from today onwards, I will not disrespect any devotees, any great souls.
02:39Humility and patience transformed this person.
02:42If the devotee had gotten angry, he may have misbehaved more or done something even worse.
02:49But he did not say anything and the person was transformed with humility and patience.
02:54If we control our mindset, then we can improve anybody.
02:58We cannot change anybody by anger, it just causes more harm.
03:02For example, if you keep scolding or beating young children, then they will develop resentment towards you.
03:10And when they grow up, they will disrespect you.
03:12They will remember this person was very mean to me.
03:15Therefore, I think we should try and teach our children with love and adoration.
03:19We should not get angry too much.
03:22If we get angry every time, it will only cause more harm.
03:27Nobody has benefited because of anger to take.
03:31If we are more thoughtful and connect with God, then if another person is misbehaving or getting angry with us,
03:40we should think seriously about how we should approach the situation.
03:45And if we are not able to figure out, then we should get away from that situation.
03:49Go away somewhere.
03:50After some time, we will regain our intelligence.
03:53And we will realize we are not in the right mindset before we were angry.
03:57In such a situation, we should walk away from the triggering situations.
04:01In such a situation, we are not in the right mindset.
