Taiwan's Fisheries Agency says it is committed to protecting the rights of migrant fishers, in response to a CNN report on abuses on Taiwanese distant-water fishing boats.

00:05That's in response to a recent CNN report on abuses against those employed on Taiwanese distant water fishing boats.
00:13The report cited a case of a fisher who was denied timely medical care and lost two fingers.
00:19Other cases included a death at sea where the captain refused to return to port,
00:24and examples of wages going unpaid for well over a year.
00:28The agency expressed concern over the cases raised by CNN and said further investigations may be needed.
00:35Since 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor has blacklisted Taiwan's distant water fishing industry for showing signs of forced labor.
