00:00Hello, my friends and friends.
00:02See you again with me.
00:04And today we are going to talk directly with a vocal vocalist
00:07that is very popular in the 90s and 2000s.
00:10Don't worry about it.
00:12You probably know if you listen to this song.
00:14But if I let you go, I will never know.
00:19I will never know what my life would be holding you close to me.
00:26Will I ever see you smiling back at me?
00:31Oh, yeah.
00:32How will I know if I let you go?
00:39Thank you so much, guys.
00:41Oh, my God. Shane, Marky and Nick, what an honor to have you here with us here in SJTV Studio.
00:47How is everything going?
00:49It's very nice to be here. Thanks for having us, first of all.
00:52We're very excited to chat to you.
00:54Everything's going great.
00:56We're back in full swing.
00:57The band is back together.
00:58We've been recording music.
01:00Our album is about to come out.
01:01We've just announced a new tour.
01:03It's all called Wild Dreams.
01:06Our album is called Wild Dreams.
01:07The tour is called Wild Dreams.
01:08And we're all back together.
01:10Yeah, I heard and I can see that.
01:13Well, it's been a while and your friends have been waiting for a new release.
01:17How does it feel to finally come back?
01:19Yeah, it's pretty exciting, to be honest.
01:22You know, I think after a few years that we've all had through the pandemic, it's been quite a nervous time, you know, in the world for everybody, no matter what job we do.
01:32And I think for us, we were trying to figure out a way of still existing as a band and trying to find a way of, you know, making new music for our fans.
01:43We were supposed to go on tour just before the pandemic hit.
01:46So obviously that got taken away.
01:49But everything for a reason in one way.
01:52You know, we tried to make the best of the situation.
01:55We've made this album now Wild Dreams.
01:57And, you know, we're very excited for our audience and our fans to hear it.
02:01But even more so, we're excited to hopefully get on tour and, you know, come out to places like Indonesia again.
02:08Hopefully in 2022, we are planning a world tour.
02:12We can't announce any dates just yet because we're still waiting for all the government guidelines to come into place.
02:19But hopefully we will see you guys definitely in 2022 on tour.
02:22Oh, my God. I'm so excited to hear that.
02:25Fingers crossed. I really hope I can see you here in Indonesia.
02:28But about your newest album here, Wild Dreams. Why Wild Dreams? What is it about?
02:35I think the title actually came from, it was actually marking up the idea of that song.
02:40And it was about, you know, what was going on in the world at the time.
02:44There were so many, the whole thing was like a wild dream.
02:46You know, the last two years has been such a crazy time for everybody and a very scary time.
02:50And Mark was having a lot of crazy dreams and a lot of panicky kind of weird dreams, you know.
02:56So he said, watching that title of a song, I thought it was really good.
03:00And let's make it upbeat. Let's make it fun.
03:02And it kind of kicked off the album process in general for us.
03:06So fast forward 12 months now for the song and the tour and album to be called that.
03:11It's pretty cool, you know, and this album really came from the four of us as a band
03:17and probably more so than any other album before.
03:19We had a lot of time.
03:21One thing we had as a band was a lot of time, obviously, with the pandemic.
03:25And to be able to kind of spend time making the album and taking our time making it
03:30was a kind of a novelty that was new to us.
03:33Because usually albums are not made very quickly, but they could be made in two or three months.
03:37You know, this album took over a year.
03:39So yeah, we're very proud of it and we're very excited to finally bring it out next week
03:43and see what the fans, obviously the most important, the fans think of our songs
03:47and our new album. We're really excited about it all.
03:49Yeah, I'm so excited too for your new album.
03:52And I'm so happy to see that you take this whole pandemic situation
03:55and can turn it into a fun thing.
03:57And seeing you product this album during the COVID-19 pandemic,
04:02is there any challenges that you face along the way?
04:05Yeah, of course. A couple.
04:09Like, I mean, I guess like the whole world, the challenges are, you know, very out there
04:16from, you know, being at home and having to record this album in our houses, in our living rooms,
04:22in our, you know, little corners, little pockets of where we've all been, you know.
04:28And just like the rest of the world, we've had to try and find a way of making it work.
04:32You know, we've had to try and work from home.
04:34How do you do that as a band? You have to just work it out.
04:37So we wrote on Zoom with people. We, I guess, you know, put the songs together to decide which ones we're going to record.
04:46And then had to put them into reality recording them.
04:50So all the interruptions, whether it's our dogs barking or Wi-Fi dropping out or, you know,
04:56we'd be in the middle of a car going, Starlight. Sorry, can you close that door, please? Just one second.
05:03That happened too, a lot.
05:05Yeah. So, and also, the interesting one, there's a song on there called My Hero, which is a really poignant song
05:11because it really captures heroes around the world at the moment, whether it's, you know, family or friends
05:17or frontline workers that are doing and are continuously doing a great, great job.
05:22But that's the first song we ever recorded in Sligo in the west coast of Ireland, which is where Shane and Keaton Mark are from.
05:32And that was all done there in a little studio that Shane had created during lockdown as well.
05:38So this album stands apart from the rest of our albums for many reasons.
05:43We've written most of it. We've recorded it in lockdown.
05:47There's some really clever songs on there that represent the pandemic.
05:51You know, a song called Alone Together, which is us being alone, but together.
05:56Also a song called Alive, which is about the world coming alive again and everyone will dance again.
06:02So we'll definitely look back on this album and go, that was our lockdown album.
06:07And as good as it is, and I know the fans will love it, hopefully we never had to record one like that again.
06:12I hope so.
06:13Of course.
06:14Yeah, it must have been an unforgettable experience, especially you call it a lockdown album.
06:20But about the hero, I saw your performance in the Pride of Britain Awards.
06:25That was the first time in a while since you performed live, right?
06:29How did it feel? What did you miss most about performing live?
06:32Amazing.
06:33Amazing.
06:34Yeah, it felt amazing.
06:35Genuinely, and we've done that show a couple of times, but every time I'm there, I kind of feel starstruck because you sit back and you hear the stories of all of these extraordinary individuals.
06:46And then it's like, you feel like you're lucky to be meeting them, you know, and you feel like, do you know what? These are really what life is about.
06:54You know, this is whatever we've achieved, you know, we're still able to take huge example of these little kids who everything in their life has gone against them.
07:04Yet somehow they've managed to be brave, they've managed to be positive, and they don't complain.
07:09And sometimes, you know, as humans, we all complain about everyday stuff when we're far much better off than a lot of other people out there.
07:16So you learn a lot from being on a show like that.
07:19Capture the emotion of My Hero. Because remember, My Hero can be your mom or dad, it can be your brother or sister, your dog, your wife, your husband, your best friend, the doctors, anybody.
07:32And I think it sits lovely on this album amongst some brilliant songs.
07:37And we're just so proud of this World of Dreams album. So much so, as Keane said earlier, we're hoping to go back on tour to Asia late in 2022.
07:46So you better come down and enjoy the concert and get everybody to come along.
07:50I will have to. Right. But the tickets for the August show is already sold out.
07:56How did that happen? Like, I really want to see you guys.
07:59That's in England and in Ireland.
08:01That is one of the concerts that we had to postpone due to the pandemic for Wembley Stadium and also for a stadium in Ireland.
08:09We had to postpone both of those concerts. So we are going to do those concerts in August.
08:15And on the side of the world and then hopefully come to Asia in September.
08:19That is our plan at the moment.
08:21And like we said earlier, we are just waiting for government approvals and all of those things to come into place.
08:27So that we can let all our Indonesian fans know exactly when we're coming and exactly what night we will be playing.
08:32But let me tell you this. It's going to be a concert like we have never done in Indonesia before.
08:36It's a special one. It's a very special one. It is one that we have pushed very, very hard to make happen with our promoters out there.
08:43So stay tuned. That news will be coming very soon.
08:46I will make sure I get the front row ticket and pre-order it as long as it's already out.
08:52Let's talk about Starlight now. It's the first music video released in the whole album. Why?
08:57And will there be any other music videos from this album?
09:01Yeah, Starlight is the first single. And we felt like this song again, because of the pandemic, because of everything, it was very positive.
09:09It was very upbeat. It gave everybody, I think it gave us anyway, a lot of hope about the future.
09:15It's a great song to sing. And we found after the last album, when we released Hello My Love, it was such a big song for us and we wanted to keep it upbeat.
09:23We didn't want to come straight away, straight away with a ballad. And Starlight is one of those songs that makes you just feel good.
09:29It makes you feel happy. You know, we performed it in London on a big TV show last night.
09:33And it's such a great song to sing. It's going to be such a great song on tour.
09:36And again, we wanted to write songs for this album that were positive, that were, you know, hopeful, that were happy, that, you know, you could see in a big stadium or in a big show that our fans would love.
09:47And this is definitely one of them. And I think it got the album off to a great start.
09:51Yeah. And there's more songs like that. Obviously, this album is actually quite upbeat in general.
09:56There's only like two or three ballads on there, but it's a it's a very positive, hopeful, you know, album.
10:03It's actually quite a difficult song to sing. Would you agree? Like it's so high. It's very high.
10:07There's some notes on there that are higher than high. You know, Mark has a couple of notes at the end that are crazy high.
10:13The highest you've ever sang on a Westlife song, Mark, would you say?
10:15Yes. And he's going to do it right now. Go, Mark!
10:18Go, Mark! Go, Mark!
10:21Can you show us? Yeah. It's very early here in England. We're still, we're still half asleep. We can't sing there.
10:27Okay. Then we'll see it in the videos and the concerts. But one of those countries you're going to visit on your tour is Indonesia. Why?
10:35What makes you want to come back here again?
10:38We're fans. We have so many fans. We have so much support over there. You know, Indonesia is like, you know, Indonesia, like our first album went 20 times platinum in Indonesia.
10:48You know, 20 times platinum, which was a record at the time. So that really gave us a good feeling for Indonesia and how many fans.
10:56We were like, this place goes good. This place goes good. And the second album went 22 times platinum.
11:01So, you know, when you remember them kind of stats and look back at it, it was a very special country for us.
11:07You know, we have a lot of fans there and it's somewhere we want to come back to all the time.
11:11You know, you want to go over your loves and we are very much loved in Indonesia and a lot of fans there.
11:16Plus, nasa goreng is my favorite dish. So I hope I pronounced that right.
11:21But it is my favorite Indonesian dish, my favorite Asian dish in the world. So I cannot wait to get back and try it again.
11:26Okay. What is the one thing that you remember most from Indonesia? Is it the city, the food, the ladies?
11:33I have a good story. I have a good story. One of the first times we ever went to Indonesia, we did a performance just to showcase of our first album.
11:43But it was more like a concert.
11:4510,000 people came.
11:46There was 10,000 people there.
11:47Do you remember?
11:48And we were on stage and, you know, all the girls were in the front row and they were screaming up at us and a few of them were fainting.
11:56And the security guards were lifting them out. But this one girl, she got lifted out from the front row and she got brought over to like the first aid area to the side of the stage.
12:06And I was watching her singing the songs and she was just lying there and then she just jumped up and ran on the stage and she jumped on Mark.
12:13And like she was just attached to Mark and Mark was singing the song and like she was probably on you for like 30 seconds.
12:20She pretended she fainted.
12:22She pretended she fainted.
12:23It was brilliant.
12:24It took like four or five security guards.
12:26At the time I wasn't used to getting attacked from behind at the time.
12:28I didn't know what was going on.
12:30But it took like four or five security guards to get her off.
12:34So that was a moment that I don't think we would ever forget.
12:38Wow. How did you handle it, Mark? It wasn't a traumatic experience for you, right?
12:43Yeah, I mean, it was my first time that that happened and I think that I was just very unaware of it.
12:50But you know, these days I just embrace it.
12:52Because it might happen again remembering that your fans here couldn't wait for you to have a concert in Indonesia.
13:00It really could.
13:01Well, we'd have to have eyes in the back of our heads.
13:03Yeah.
13:04On the reunion tour, we went to Indonesia and we did six shows.
13:08We did Jakarta, we did Palembang, we did Surabaya.
13:11Yeah, we did a couple of shows.
13:13Yeah, so there were three.
13:14And that was our first time for West Ham.
13:16I think Shane might have been to other cities.
13:18But as a band, that was our first time to visit outside of Jakarta.
13:23So maybe there's more cities that we can visit on this upcoming tour.
13:27Bali, I'd love to go to Bali.
13:28Bali, yeah.
13:29That would be amazing.
13:30We're showing Bali and we go surfing then after.
13:32Boom.
13:33A flavor to God.
13:34Not good.
13:35And a few different parts of the island.
13:38I'm pretty sure in whatever city you perform...
13:40We can't wait to come back, guys.
13:41We really can't.
13:42Yeah, in whatever city you perform in Indonesia, I'm sure it will always be sold out.
13:47Okay, back to the album.
13:50There's 15 songs in the album.
13:52For each of you, can you tell me what's your favorite song in the whole album and why?
13:57That's a tough one.
13:58Okay, we'll have to pick one song each.
14:00I'm going to go with Starlight because I feel like that song, as Nicky is singing, I feel like that song is a very uplifting song.
14:09And it's a song that brings a lot of joy and a lot of hope, especially in the times that we are living in at the moment.
14:16Okay.
14:17I'm going to go with Always With Me.
14:20It's the last song, well, number 11 on the album, obviously, for the Westlife old songs.
14:25But it's, yeah, Always With Me.
14:27It's a beautiful ballad.
14:28It's about my mom and dad.
14:30Unfortunately, my mom and dad passed away in the last couple of years.
14:33So it was a bit of a difficult time.
14:35But I wanted to try and write a song that was quite positive about their love story.
14:39And that song is about their love story.
14:41So I'm very proud of that song.
14:43And yeah, can't wait to sing it.
14:45Wow, so sweet. Mark?
14:46For me, yeah, there's a song on the album called Lifeline, which was, it's actually probably one of the more Westlife-y ballad-y style songs on there.
14:55And the song was really inspired by, you know, like...
