00:00Hi, how you doing?
00:02I'm Arlo Guthrie, and you've probably listened to or heard about a thing called Alice's Restaurant.
00:07Now as you know, Alice's Restaurant is about some friends of mine, Alice and Ray, who live in a church in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
00:16Where Alice ran her restaurant.
00:18Alice's Restaurant is not the name of the restaurant, it was the name of my song about the restaurant.
00:24You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant.
00:30And now, it's the name of a movie based on my song about Alice's Restaurant.
00:38You hippie perversion!
00:40What's that funny smell?
00:41What funny smell?
00:42It's all about that beautiful Thanksgiving dinner, which produced an incredible, amazing isle of garbage, which we tried real hard to dump at the dump.
01:00And which we ended up dumping off the side of a road, where we were caught red-handed by some local citizens and eventually confronted by none other than Officer Obie himself.
01:18Kid, we found your name on an envelope with the bottom of a half a ton of garbage.
01:21Just want to know if you have any information about it.
01:23Well, yes sir, Officer Obie, I cannot tell a lie.
01:27I put that envelope under that garbage.
01:30Well, it's under arrest.
01:33It's all about the subsequent full-scale police investigation, complete with five police officers, three police cars, one police dog, and 27 8x10 colored glossy photographs with a paragraph on the back of each one, used as evidence at the subsequent trial, which resulted in my conviction.
01:52A black mark on my record, which eventually led me to my problems with the draft.
01:58Turn your hat and cough.
01:59That ain't enough.
02:00That's all I have.
02:01I mean, I'm sitting here on the group W bench, cause you wanna know if I'm moral enough to join the army, burn women, kids, houses, children and villages
