00:00You were able to match pace with Jett Lawrence. Now you made a mistake. That's not what you want to do, but that second session this morning, as Jason Wigandt mentioned, you showed us a little more. You need continuation, but to do anything with Jett Lawrence, it has to happen right here. You cannot start 10th and expect to battle Jett Lawrence today.
00:17Another guy who would like to be up there battling Jett Lawrence is Justin Cooper, third in points. He's had one whole shot this year, but earlier today he had a pretty big crash on the high side on that first section here. I saw his shoulder and shoulder blade getting massaged. The team wasn't sure if he was going to be getting back out today. He actually just told me here on the line that he took some rest in between qualifying and here. He thought his body was going to stiffen up a whole lot more than it did. He's actually feeling better than he ever anticipated after a crash like that.
00:47And your Jett Lawrence. Well, last time I was here, I went 1-1, which ain't saying much because I used to go 1-1 a lot of places, but in Jett Lawrence fashion, it was a dominant 1-1. 12 seconds first moto, almost 17 the second one. So you got the vibes, and it was pretty dominant. Got to get it done again.
01:05Give me some vibes here. Going to hook up Lorenzo Licurcio, the veteran of Venezuela. He's going to pick up $2,000 from Rocky Mountain ATV MC with their Privateer Award.
01:17So congrats to him on the Wildcat Racing Team that he operates. And in the third season, we've gotten him back with his own team and usually run it up in the top 20 of the 450 division.
01:27And we'll see how the Privateer does today on the 74. And mechanics now clear the line.
01:37So Jett Lawrence did not race here last year, and he said that caught him off a little off guard in qualifying. Track a little different than he remembered it, just the way the prep is today.
01:48So we'll see if that has any effect. Other riders, like we said, going really fast in the second qualifying session. Can they hang with him?
01:5730-second card is up. It's brought to you by Fly Racing.
02:0230 minutes and two laps. 40 riders.
02:11Time to lock in, boys.
02:14Heart rate's up.
02:16Rebs up.
02:18Gates down.
02:26Shed Lawrence, another good start.
02:27There's Aaron Plesinger.
02:29And guess who's with him?
02:30Hunter Lawrence right there.
02:32It's a 1-2 for the Hondas again.
02:34No surprise.
02:35I thought Chase Exxon was a little bit farther up, but the problem is, just like they do at home, these boys, they get out front.
02:42And, man, they bend deadly when they do that tandem.
02:44Prado, I believe, fourth.
02:50Fifth hole shot of the year for the 18. There is Prado in that fourth-place spot.
02:54Now they put a little bit of water down to keep some of this dust, and because this track is hard.
03:00Oh, no!
03:00Jet goes down very similar to last moto at Redbug.
03:04But as I was just saying, the guy's going to have to be very careful, and really, towards Chase Exxon, it's going to be hard to be able to push up.
03:11But a huge mistake by Jet Lawrence, actually a simple mistake, but costly.
03:16The last time he was here, he was in this position last weekend, so he should have felt pretty confident.
03:20But this is a whole different day.
03:21And because the track is drier faster, it's not that hot, these guys are going to be very intense in the first part of this race.
03:27That's Bryce Shelley in 14th place, so Jet is 15th, first to 15th, just like that.
03:39Right about where he was a week ago, he was able to still win that moto.
03:44Yeah, you can see they put that water down, and it's going to be slippery, and I was just mentioning that.
03:49Then he loses the front end, so Jet's got to be careful as well.
03:52I mean, the track's still going to be slippery.
03:53He's going to have to take a couple laps, and it's an easy mistake to happen, but costly one,
03:59and one that we usually don't see by the eighth team, especially when he's out front.
04:03Honestly, it was very similar to last week.
04:04The difference was last week was a left-hander.
04:07This one was a right.
04:09There's Eli Tomac.
04:11Again, the Yamahas are white this week, and the 70th anniversary color is right behind Prado.
04:16So not only did Sexton get a reprieve here,
04:21several others that would like to upset Jett Lawrence.
04:24Tomac, Prado, Hunter Lawrence, Plessinger, pretty much all the fast guys.
04:29Hampshire are up front.
04:31Yeah, you can see Jorge losing their rear end right there,
04:33and it just showed you how slippery this racetrack is,
04:35especially coming into this section where we saw Seth Handmaker go down in that 250 class.
04:39But the only difference between now, this year, and last year, last weekend for Jet,
04:44all the guys were still behind him once he got back up.
04:47Eli had a bad start.
04:48This time they are in front of him.
04:50But, yeah, you can see him going through these sand rollers.
04:52Looks like he decides to go on the outside right here.
04:54Goes in between those jumps, and he just loses the front end.
04:58Right there, simple fall, but costly one.
05:01And this is Tony Corolli getting caught up.
05:03This is what happens when you don't get a good start.
05:05Gets bunched up.
05:06Looks like he's got a little help there.
05:10And, yeah, everybody's trying to funnel for that one line.
05:13You hate to see that Corolli getting the Ducati on the track in pro motocross for the first time,
05:18the nine-time MXGP champion, JT.
05:22You see Marshall Welton there turn around.
05:24Somebody was stuck underneath their motorcycle there.
05:26Marshall Welton actually did a U-turn, went back to try to lift the motorcycle off of somebody.
05:30So you love to see that type of sportsmanship amongst these guys in the middle of the race.
05:34Yeah, it's good.
05:34Yeah, go ahead, Jake.
05:35Yeah, I believe that was Tony right there that was stuck under the bike.
05:38So I was wondering, did something happen because he was down there a long time.
05:41So, yes, good sportsmanship.
05:43But now Eli Tomac seeing that Jet Lawrence going down.
05:48I don't know if he was able to get around Chase Sexton, but Eli's starting to move forward.
05:53And this is what we want to see.
05:54We know how this guy is.
05:55He gets that motivation and the excitement.
05:58Man, you see him running these outside.
06:00It's good to see that happen for the number three, JT.
06:05Yeah, Eli Tomac looks fantastic here.
06:07And you just want to see that intensity that's been missing the last couple of rounds.
06:11He gets around Jorge Prado here.
06:13He needs to get to the rear of Hunter Lawrence.
06:15You don't want anything to disrupt the forward movement that we have not seen the last couple of rounds.
06:20Yeah, and those last couple of rounds, JT, a lot of that has to do with that engine
06:23and the conversation that we were having at Red Bud last week, what was going on with it.
06:26I talked to the team, and they said actually the engine just got caught.
06:30They went through a lot of field.
06:31They changed the engine for all three of those Yamahas.
06:34I talked to him last week and just to make sure to safeguard everything.
06:37But you guys know this.
06:38Eli has been known to get the bike really hot.
06:41He uses the clutch a lot.
06:42And so that was something that the team was keeping an eye on, especially under these really hot conditions.
06:48Thank you, Katie.
06:49Now the number one of Sexton putting the press on Prado.
06:53Yeah, Chase wanted to go up the inside and talking to Chase this weekend.
06:57He said his thing, Chris, goal is not to get ahead of himself.
07:00So what we're seeing is exactly what he told me.
07:04He's not going to try to push it.
07:05He doesn't want to go down.
07:06He knows he's out of the championship.
07:08He wants to build.
07:09And he can't beat Jet if he's on the ground.
07:12But that being said, it's going to take him a little bit longer to get going.
07:15And right now he's starting to lose that time to Eli Tomac.
07:18And Jet Lawrence is catching him up as well.
07:20So Sexton almost went down.
07:22But still is going to try to make the pass on the downhill.
07:26Not enough.
07:27Yeah, and what you can't see on the camera angle, that actually corner goes back where he almost went down.
07:32They actually start going back towards the start.
07:34So it looked like Chase could just drop down straight.
07:36But they're turning still.
07:37So that's why he wasn't able to get it.
07:40And Lawrence has made up a ton of ground.
07:42Now bottom box, you can see Sexton, Hampshire, Prado are right in front of him.
07:49Yeah, I mean, I understand what Chase is doing.
07:51You know, it's smart, especially when you're not in a title.
07:54But you're making it difficult because you see Eli Tomac.
07:58He knows that sense of urgency.
07:59He doesn't want to see that 18.
08:01Now Chase makes the pass.
08:02But the damage is done.
08:03He's got to run down Eli Tomac.
08:05Hunter Lawrence is ahead of him, six seconds.
08:07And Jet Lawrence is only two seconds behind him, a few seconds.
08:10And Prado gave Sexton all he could handle, trying to get him back.
08:13Couldn't get it done.
08:14There's Hampshire.
08:15There is Jet Lawrence.
08:17And Hampshire shoots by.
08:19It's frustrating for Jorge.
08:22You know, these guys are starting to go.
08:23Good start and things are happening really quick.
08:25Now, I believe if I'm Jet Lawrence and knowing how good Chase Sexton is,
08:30I'm worried about my brother, of course, being out front.
08:32And, of course, with Eli Tomac, we know how he is.
08:35But I think the real person that I'd be worried about is Chase Sexton.
08:38So to be able to close in and see him in front of me,
08:40I still feel pretty calm in what this race is.
08:42If I can get him, then I know I can continue moving forward.
08:45But I don't want to see that number one out front.
08:48He's going to make short work of Jorge right here.
08:50And he does.
08:54Lawrence looks over, makes the pass.
08:56So Lawrence is now up to seventh.
09:00Katie.
09:01The number 18.
09:02I was talking to the team about it.
09:04Christian Deschamps, his mechanic.
09:05And I was asking about when he goes down.
09:07How different of a rider is he?
09:09And Christian was saying they have seen such a difference in him as a rider within these last two years.
09:13In former years, when Jett would go down and had to play catch-up, he'd go more into, like, the panic mode style.
09:19Now his head's on a lot straighter.
09:21He's been working on his mental strength.
09:23And you can see that in his riding.
09:24He's more cool, calm, and collected.
09:26And he's riding his own race.
09:27Well, you talked about that last week, James, not turning one mistake into two.
09:33Yeah, and it comes with age.
09:35I mean, even the year, the last year, the 250 class, we saw that same thing happen to Jett.
09:40And it was one of those situations where kind of what we saw with Hayden Deacon last week.
09:44We were shocked because he normally doesn't do that.
09:46But, you know, I think when you just win everything, you know eventually, if it keeps happening, you're eventually going to get up there.
09:53So you've got to be up, JT.
09:55Yeah, and I think it just comes down to just trusting the map.
09:58You know if you can turn in your best laps.
10:00You know what you're capable of.
10:02And you have, what, I don't know, 13, 14 laps to work with if you're crashing the first lap.
10:06Just do the math.
10:07If you're, you know, 20 seconds down, it's doable when Jett's flat out.
10:12And he was only down maybe 12.
10:13So he's got a long way to go to catch his brother.
10:16He's only made up a second or two big picture.
10:18But I think for Jett, staying calm is just learning to trust what he's truly capable of.
10:23Yeah, and JT, that's a great point.
10:25And I know when I was racing, when I was in this position, and you'll see Jett do this,
10:30and a lot of the guys when they're moving forward, they'll look up.
10:33You know, they'll hit the jump.
10:34They'll just look ahead.
10:35And he's not looking at Chase Sexton or RJ.
10:37He's looking at where Hunter is.
10:39And that allows him to trust that map, you know, that eventually he'll get here.
10:43Because I believe if he was losing time to Hunter, then, yeah, he might be in more of a desperation.
10:47But just checking the map, seeing where Hunter is.
10:50And if he's not losing that time, then just trust the process.
10:52You'll get there.
10:54Tomac now closing on Plessinger.
10:56Tomac is still the only rider this year to have won a moto besides Jett Lawrence.
11:01As for Plessinger, how that illness last week, he was catching Hunter and Jett.
11:05And then he told me he put in two good laps, he got to them, and then all of a sudden his energy was just gone.
11:11He was actually running a fever.
11:13Couldn't even race moto two.
11:14He said he thinks he'll be better today.
11:18But hard to really know until you're pushing into the motos.
11:20Yeah, but I can look at Aaron's body position right there.
11:23You can tell him when he went down that hill, something's not right.
11:26I mean, even when he was hitting those bumps, I saw his body collapsing.
11:28So I don't know if he's tight or maybe that illness is not there.
11:32But that's not the Aaron Plessinger that we normally see.
11:35He's holding on at the moment.
11:37Uh-oh.
11:37So Tomac is by.
11:39Here comes Sexton.
11:40And Jett Lawrence is on Sexton's rear fender.
11:43Yeah, Chase Sexton's going to get around Aaron if he doesn't figure it out.
11:52We're hearing it's Jett made up a second just in the whips alone last time around.
11:58Sexton's got traffic on both sides.
12:00Yeah, it's a good position to be where Jett, because you're closing in on the number one.
12:04Chase is letting his race come to him.
12:06Aaron's.
12:06Look at this.
12:07He's two for one.
12:08Bogo special.
12:10Jett Lawrence are on both KTNs.
12:13Yeah, that was a, that's tough for Chase because where Aaron was, Aaron was kind of fading back,
12:18like I was saying, and he popped out of that rut and pushed his teammate out.
12:21Jett snuck around, but that's just heads up rotting.
12:24He just knows what was going to happen before it happened, and he was able to go.
12:28Now you're going to watch him try to pull away, and I think he's going to do the same thing to Eli
12:32and then try to go after his brother.
12:36Nine seconds.
12:37He'll have to make up to get to the lead.
12:38Here's the double pass.
12:40Now what's happening?
12:40He scrubbed right here.
12:41Now Chase is in a weird spot.
12:43He goes on the outside.
12:44Now watch what happened to Aaron.
12:46Aaron's just going to fade out, makes a little mistake.
12:48Chase should have went towards the inside.
12:49He should have known better, but that's Bogo lightning spell.
12:53It was prime day.
12:54Well, it's still prime day for Jett Lawrence because you find it all the specials getting around this guy,
12:58and if Beast Mode don't catch up, he's going to happen to him as well.
13:02Sexton trying to hang with it.
13:05And here's the attack from Lawrence on towback.
13:07Now we saw this same scenario happen last weekend when Jett Lawrence went around Chase.
13:14Kind of the same faction, really blew around him.
13:16Chase picked up the pace.
13:18I'm sure he probably realized that I don't want to have to deal with this,
13:21and he was able to stay with Jett.
13:22Oh, look at this.
13:23Oh, Lawrence had so much speed.
13:25He almost went down.
13:26Yeah, that was the respect out of Eli.
13:29He wanted to go in, and he wasn't really sure if Eli saw him,
13:32and he kind of backed up and almost went down himself,
13:34but he still makes the pass.
13:37It's unbelievable.
13:41And you want to know how good a pace Hunter Lawrence is running.
13:43Jett Lawrence is catching and passing all these guys,
13:46and even though he's not losing time, he's not gaining on his brother out front,
13:49and it's still about nine seconds.
13:51Well, thanks, Jett.
13:51Just cut that to an eight now.
13:53Yeah, yeah.
13:54And Sexton now attacking towback for second and third.
13:57There's the leader.
13:59Hunter Lawrence hasn't won a moto since Bud's Creek last year.
14:04Now, where Hunter is, it's a tough spot to be at
14:07because you know Jett is coming, and he has that pace,
14:10and it's going to be hard for Hunter to really pick up the pace
14:13because Jett's found the flow, so either Hunter's pace is good enough
14:17or he's going to be having a hard time trying to pick it up
14:20when you have no one to chase and you know the 18 is coming.
14:26Towback and Sexton, third and fourth.
14:28What can you say about this charge?
14:33Two motos in a row from Jett, but still a long way to go.
14:37Still has nearly ten seconds to make up on Hunter.
14:40Hunter riding very well out front.
14:43And you've got to wonder how Eli feels about this
14:46because unlike Chase at this moment, Eli was fighting for this title.
14:50It's got to be demoralizing, especially after that,
14:52and you can kind of see it in his body language,
14:54what he saw, how he was when he passed Aaron.
14:56This is not what you'd expect from Eli.
14:59Towback, he has backed him way down, and Sexton goes by with ease.
15:02Yeah, you've got to believe that's all just mentally.
15:05It is hard for him to be in this spot
15:07because it's still too early to have any issues.
15:09I think this is a combination of what happened over the last few weeks, JT.
15:13I agree with you 100%, James.
15:14I echo that wholeheartedly.
15:16Think about both of these guys.
15:18You know, Sexton's dealing with it a little bit better.
15:19He makes the pass, but for both of them,
15:21they felt like they were moving forward.
15:22They felt like they were trying to go chase down Hunter Lawrence,
15:25who's gotten away, and then Jett Lawrence comes out of nowhere
15:28and is absolutely checked out on this pack.
15:31They surely saw him on the ground on that first lap.
15:33You just see somebody you saw on the ground 10 minutes before,
15:36blow past you and check out.
15:37It's really hard to wrap your head around.
15:40Yeah, it is.
15:42And like you said, they saw him go down,
15:44and they saw what he did last weekend.
15:46So it is really frustrating.
15:48I think the only thing for Chase Sexton, like his whole mindset, again,
15:52as I mentioned earlier, he's trying to just let things come to him
15:55and not rushing it.
15:56So in his mind, he's probably trying to keep himself from chasing Jett
16:01in order of maybe making the mistake.
16:03I know it's going to be hard, but it's a little bit different where Eli Tomac.
16:06You saw when Jett went down how aggressive Eli was.
16:09This is a whole different router right now.
16:11It's just frustrating for him.
16:12If he doesn't watch out, the number 24 is going to get around him as well.
16:16RJ Hampshire really putting it together piece by piece, week by week,
16:21on this 450 in his first summer on this bike.
16:25And he got the podium in the first moto last week going after Tomac right now.
16:29There's an update on the riders.
16:31Where are the Oakleys?
16:32It's Sexton 3rd, Tomac 4th, Hampshire Fitz's battle right now.
16:36And then just behind them, you also have Plessinger and Cooper, 6th and 7th.
16:40Justin Cooper again at that big crash in practice.
16:44And by the way, Cooper Webb not here today.
16:48Tore his meniscus.
16:49I know he's back home watching.
16:50And if Justin Cooper can finish in this 7th place spot,
16:54looking at a near tie for the point lead in the SMX standings.
16:58That's combining motocross and supercross together.
17:02Cooper Webb the leader right now, but out.
17:03Justin Cooper is right second.
17:07Yeah, if RJ can get up a little bit closer to Eli, I don't think Eli would fight him.
17:12You know, Eli's still a champion, and he's still fast.
17:15So, RJ is making a few mistakes as his track, as all these guys are.
17:19But I don't think if he gets to him, he'll be able to get around him.
17:22Because Eli's not happy right now.
17:23He's not out here to ride around in 4th place.
17:26He's trying to win.
17:27And so, I don't think he would fight RJ as much as RJ wants that position.
17:31Eli doesn't really care about that if he can't win the race.
17:35All right, past the 15-minute mark, halfway through.
17:37Reminder, Monster Energy available at Quick Trip.
17:41As Hampshire grind, keep, towback in sight, look for passing room.
17:47And again, up front, Hunter Lawrence matching the pace of his brother.
17:53Jet still 9 seconds down.
17:55Yeah, and then the last, the fastest rider on the track was Chase Sexton.
17:59You know, just only a few hundredths of a second over Jet Lawrence.
18:03They both was in the 57s, and Hunter was in the last lap 57 as well.
18:07But Chase has figured out that pace.
18:11Katie?
18:12Yeah, we know that Hunter is looking for that illustrious overall win in the 450 class.
18:16They made some shock changes in between practices today,
18:18and actually made another shock change here before Moto 1.
18:22They said they definitely swung a little too hard in the first go-around.
18:25So they're trying to level the bike back out and make him more comfortable.
18:28It obviously looks like it's paying off for him.
18:31You know, this is one of those times that Hunter Lawrence,
18:33his tenacity mixed with his calm, cool, collected self,
18:38the guy that kind of everybody looks up to, this is where it's paying off.
18:41And there's a lot of people out here crossing fingers.
18:43He finally is going to take home that first overall.
18:45Yeah.
18:46Thanks, Katie.
18:46You watch Hampshire attacking Tomek again.
18:49Oh, Hampshire's up the inside.
18:51Not quite enough.
18:53He's going to mention last week when Jet went down, Hunter was asked about that,
18:57and Hampshire just made the pass again.
18:59Yeah, as I was just saying, I don't think Eli would fight him once he got up there.
19:03But you can tell how difficult this track is getting,
19:07especially entering those sand rollers.
19:09I like the 100 line just being a little bit slower going to the inside.
19:12Not that it was faster, but it was safer.
19:14And you can see RJ made a mistake that last lap,
19:16and all these guys are because the base is so hard.
19:18They're sliding into it.
19:20Good ride by RJ.
19:21Yeah, I thought he had the pass, and he didn't.
19:24I didn't think he'd get it right back, but he did.
19:27So Hampshire really becoming a player now after that moto podium last week.
19:32Starts have improved.
19:34Said he had a bad habit he had developed with the start map of the bike
19:36where he was gassing it.
19:37The bike with the start map, you can explain what that is,
19:41doesn't want you to do that.
19:42It's said to be a perfect RPM.
19:44He was trying to override that, and he was messing up his starts.
19:47Clearly, he's got that fixed.
19:48He's been better the last two weeks,
19:50and now you're seeing the result.
19:52Yeah, no, I know exactly because when I was racing,
19:55I had the same thing, and I actually wouldn't run it
19:57because I like to be able to adjust the way the bike sounds
20:00and more RPM depending on the track soil and all that.
20:04So, yeah, if you're not used to riding it, it can affect you,
20:07and it's set up to do one thing, and that's what that bike's going to do.
20:11So if you don't allow it, it can mess your starts up.
20:13Yep.
20:14We've got Cody Schock back here on the 37.
20:16The Muckoff Club of X FXR Yamaha.
20:22Schock's been right around that top ten with a couple hole shots this year.
20:24We asked him about his goals back half of the season.
20:29Yes, absolutely.
20:30For me, I'd like to try to score, you know, more top tens,
20:33just keep adding that to my career and just keep climbing the ladder.
20:39And as long as I'm having fun, throwing whips, and just being Cody,
20:43I don't see why that would be an issue.
20:45So we just got to, you know, finish the races.
20:48That's pretty crucial.
20:49As we can see, last weekend at Red Bud,
20:51it was a lot on a lot of the teams.
20:55And unfortunately, we were one of them for the second moto,
20:59so scoring no points second moto definitely hurt a little bit.
21:02But that's why we do this thing called racing.
21:05We've got to accept the lows and accept the highs
21:07and just keep moving forward.
21:10Well, he's doing that, James.
21:11He's caught Plessinger.
21:12He's dropped way off the pace.
21:14And then ahead of them is this battle.
21:15That's your boy, Malcolm Stewart.
21:17Barsha and then Prado.
21:20Yeah, well, you need to get that fishing pole and throw a hook.
21:23Hook around them, you know.
21:25They rod together, so you know how difficult Justin is.
21:29Oh, he's not easy to pass.
21:31Yeah.
21:32Out of all the people.
21:34Left to right, right to left.
21:36You don't want to wake up the beast out here.
21:38There are certain people you ain't about that life,
21:40and Justin, he ain't about that life for my brother.
21:44He's too big for that.
21:45No, they've had their run-ins for sure.
21:47Right now they've been cool.
21:48Now they're riding and trading together.
21:49Malcolm makes the pass on that rock star Husqvarna.
21:52It's the rock star Gas Gas for Marsha.
21:55And I was talking to Marsha this morning.
21:56I say, hey, coming back from a knee injury,
21:58I feel like you're doing really well.
22:00And he had to tell himself that.
22:03He said he put too much pressure on himself
22:04at Southwick in the comeback.
22:06And he's had to step back and remind himself
22:09to just build every week.
22:11He knows where he wants to be.
22:12He's got goals.
22:14Trying to let it come to him here on the 51.
22:16Yeah, I mean, anytime you go to a place
22:17where you have success at,
22:19no matter if you're coming off injury,
22:20you want to get out there and have it.
22:22So, yeah, Justin had to tell himself that.
22:24You can see my brother losing the rear end.
22:26You know, talking to him,
22:27I know they've been working on the bike a lot this year.
22:31So this was another week of that.
22:33So they're still trying to figure it out.
22:35And hopefully they continue to do it
22:36as that was a nice scrub right there.
22:38But that scrub right there
22:39was more of a frustration scrub.
22:41I can tell you that.
22:42Trying to go speed is like,
22:44sometimes you get so mad at what's going on,
22:46you just scrub that thing.
22:47But look good on TV, bro.
22:51You're the only one qualified
22:52to give us judgment on scrubs
22:53and the interpretation of the scrubs.
22:56Hey, we mentioned SMX playoffs coming up.
22:58The Fan Fest is awesome.
23:00You get the camp trackside
23:01and the fan experience.
23:03Probably the most unique opportunities
23:05in all sports.
23:06To learn more, go to smxexperiences.com
23:08and get inside and be part of the action.
23:12Those are actual fans right there
23:13near the podium at those SMX rounds.
23:16Wow, Jorge Prado.
23:17They're catching him in a hurry.
23:18And now Plessinger is out.
23:20I've got to imagine that's the illness right there.
23:22Yeah, that's the illness.
23:23And we saw that happen early in the race
23:25and said the way his body was,
23:26his position was.
23:28But we give my brother a shout out.
23:29He has the best line to enter
23:31in that whoop section than anyone.
23:32And that's why he was able to catch on Jorge Prado.
23:35What he's doing is just going outside,
23:37banking off that corner
23:38and is shooting across that hard pack.
23:41So Malcolm's really got those rollers figured out.
23:45And that has drawn him up to Prado,
23:47who is in seventh.
23:48As for Plessinger, let's go back to Katie.
23:50Yeah, you guys can tell he's really hurting.
23:52And when he actually lined up before this moto,
23:54I had asked him how he was feeling.
23:56He's like, I'm here.
23:57I'm on the bike.
23:58We'll see how this goes.
23:58So they knew that he was on an uphill battle.
24:01And talking to Ian Harris, the team manager over there,
24:04he said, you've got to imagine this.
24:05He's one of the only guys in the top of the class
24:08with Justin Cooper that have really been out
24:10for almost every single race,
24:13even through supercross here and outdoors.
24:15He's been putting week after week body
24:17through a whole lot of different things.
24:19And that, Stu, has to take a toll
24:22on the big picture of the body.
24:23There's not many of them who have successfully been out
24:26almost every single one of these race weekends
24:28in the last year or two.
24:29No, absolutely not.
24:31I mean, we hear every weekend,
24:33you know, God's getting sick,
24:34and Aaron has been out here.
24:36And the hard part is there's no time to recover.
24:39So it's like you're being sick,
24:40but you're working just as hard.
24:41The body's going to eventually break down.
24:43So I know Aaron, I know if he could,
24:46he would be out there.
24:47He's really struggling right now.
24:49And so he's got to do the right thing
24:50and try to get healthy.
24:53And he's headed back to the pits.
24:56And Malcolm Stewart is headed around Jorge Prado.
24:59Malcolm getting the Jorge Prado experience.
25:01He is tough to pass.
25:03I'll just put it that way.
25:05Malcolm able to finally clear him.
25:07Yeah, well, he was going to clear him either way.
25:10Jorge realized you can have it.
25:12It looked like me and Trey Canard back in 2013.
25:15Sometimes you just got to realize,
25:17look, man, if you want it that bad,
25:18it's all you and my brother did.
25:20So looking good.
25:22But you can see how much time he was able to make up on Jorge
25:24entered that whoop section.
25:26And as quickly as he's there, he's gone.
25:30Hey, he's driving well.
25:31Yeah.
25:32Yeah, and all that.
25:33So he's figuring out these lines.
25:34So really good, JT.
25:37Malcolm does look good.
25:39But you can just see how frustrated Jorge Prado is.
25:41As soon as Malcolm went by, he completely let up.
25:44You can just see his body language.
25:46I would not be shocked if Justin Barsha passes him in the next corner or two.
25:49It has completely come apart here for Prado.
25:51Yeah, there's Barsha challenging him.
25:54It's kind of an alarming trend.
25:56Remember, Prado led quite a bit of the previous moto in this championship last week at Redwood.
26:01But then he faded back.
26:03And kind of the same thing happening now as Barsha revs it to let him know he's there.
26:09This will be a fun little tangle.
26:10Let's see what happens here.
26:11But, yeah, just a little bit of what Jorge is doing the same thing as Eli.
26:17What?
26:19I told you it would be fun to watch.
26:20He relapsed.
26:21He's going out.
26:22But, no, that's Barsha making a Barsha pass.
26:25Clean pass.
26:26He wanted to just make sure Jorge wasn't going to be able to cut back underneath.
26:29And that's all that was.
26:32One of the tougher riders to pass versus one of the more aggressive passers.
26:36And that's what you get.
26:38Prado and Barsha.
26:41Oh, it's Cornelius Pondel going to check in with him.
26:44He is getting a little bit of help from Honda.
26:46Honda, rider out of Norway, visiting.
26:48And also the Swiss native Valentin Guillo.
26:51Great to see him.
26:52He's really been fun to have in America full time for the first time this summer.
26:56Hangs around the pits pretty late after the races.
26:58Just taking it all in.
27:00So, Tondel and Guillo certainly probably know each other from a lot of racing over in Europe.
27:07And having fun here in America this summer.
27:08Yeah, and you know that just like Jorge and Tony Corolli when he's here, there's those inner battles.
27:14It's kind of like a teammate battle.
27:16You just don't want to get beat by the guy.
27:17And these guys, they want to beat each other.
27:19So, really cool to watch.
27:20And there's always something to race for.
27:22That's what I love about this new playoff system.
27:24There's always points to race because they know how important that is.
27:27Once you get down to Vegas, if you can make it there and get those points, how big a life-changing it could be.
27:32So, always incentives.
27:34Yeah, Guillo has said if he qualifies for SMX, he will race it.
27:38And you can pile up a lot of points doing what he's doing.
27:41He's always around that 10 to 15 spot every moto.
27:46And starting to move up the ranks.
27:48A little bit of help.
27:49Rock River Yamaha team carrying his bike around.
27:52And look at how many riders and how many countries are represented in the field today.
27:56That's wild.
27:57Yeah, look how much time he was able to gain as well once he made that path.
28:04So, good stuff for these guys.
28:06And, you know, looking at the lead right now is looking at Jet Lawrence kind of cheating, looking at the times.
28:11And there was a point in this race where he was starting to close in on Hunter.
28:15And just what we talked about, Joe Shimoda and Hayden Deegan, Hunter picked up that pace.
28:19And Jet eventually just said, you know what, I'm just going to take second.
28:23And it was all within a couple laps because if Hunter would have not, Jet would have been in this race.
28:28So, how quickly things can change on here and how quickly, like, these lap times, they matter.
28:34Hunter Lawrence has been riding really good.
28:35And he made it Jet Lawrence to decide to take second.
28:38JT.
28:39I'm just going to go ahead and say this is the best I've ever seen Hunter Lawrence ride.
28:43He withstood the charge that Jet Lawrence is putting in, as Jay mentioned.
28:47He got the lead down to six seconds.
28:49And Hunter picked the pace back up, got back into the 158.
28:53And think about this.
28:54He's put almost 19 seconds into Sexton.
28:57He's put over 40 seconds into Tomac.
29:01He's obviously not having a good moto.
29:02But regardless of what he's done to Jet, he has absolutely decimated the rest of this field.
29:07Thanks, JT.
29:08I'm going to go back to the story I was going to tell earlier.
29:10Katie mentioned that calm demeanor that he has.
29:13So, he's still waiting to get that first ever overall win on a 450.
29:17Last week, Jet goes down early.
29:19You think that opens the door.
29:21Hunter was asked in the press conference, what was your reaction when he saw Jet in the ground?
29:24And he's like, nothing.
29:26I just thought, oh, Jet's down.
29:28Didn't at least elude to being overly excited.
29:32This is my chance.
29:33He has eradicated all that.
29:35It is just full focus on myself and my riding and my motorcycle and not the circumstances all the time.
29:42At least, that's what he portrays outwardly.
29:44No, and that's the way he is.
29:47Being a little bit older, he's the older brother, having these injuries, it gets you a different perspective in life.
29:51But, you know, I think a little bit what he had, that moto, the same thing I used to have with Ricky when I see him go down in the opening, especially the opening laps.
30:00You're like, oh, all right.
30:00Well, I'm not going to get excited because this dude is eventually going to come back.
30:04He knows how good Jet is.
30:05It's too early in the race to get excited.
30:08And if you go back a couple weeks before that, I mean, he was literally a lightning strike away from getting his first overall victory.
30:13So, you know, when those things open up, opportunities, these guys know if they can hold on and how early the race is.
30:21And Hunter knows how good his brother is because he rides with him every day.
30:26And remember, he'll have to tangle with him again because even though he looks to be handing a defeat to Jet, they'll be back for Moto2.
30:33And a 2-1 beats a 1-2.
30:34So, he'll have to do it again to get that overall win so close so many times last year, second the last couple of weeks this year.
30:44Yeah, and with the track being a little bit hard pack and how slippery it is, we see how easy it is to make mistakes.
30:50Because Hunter was smart and got that gap and pulled on him, it's hard for Jet to make that time up because there's not a lot of traction out here.
30:58So, this gap that he has is a lot bigger on this racetrack compared to maybe last weekend where the track was softer, you can really push and make time up.
31:07Here, Jet was going to hit the ground if he tried doing it and that's just smart racing by Hunter.
31:12He knew how important those opening laps were.
31:14So, he's riding really good, but he's also a smart racer who knows when to attack and anytime you hold that 18 off and make him say no mas, he can hold on another three laps.
31:24Very impressive by the 96.
31:28Now, in the 450 class, only one time has Hunter got the moto win with Jet second.
31:32That was at Thunder Valley last year.
31:34Jet was coming back from that big crash at Hangtown now, to be fair, though, they haven't raced each other much.
31:39450 motocross, it was Hunter's rookie year last year, and then Jet missed a lot of the races with injury.
31:46But, man, this guy just keeps getting better and better.
31:5130 seconds before the two laps to go, Signs, so it should be three to go here.
31:55Back to Katie.
31:56Now, the pit boards over here for Hunter Lawrence are a whole lot of numbers.
31:59It's time.
32:00It's letting him know where he's sitting versus any kind of words encouragement.
32:04In talking to Lars Lindstrom yesterday about Hunter Lawrence, he said that he really does need to capitalize when moments like Jet going down happen.
32:12And he did that today, right?
32:13Lars continued to say one thing that's really unusually great about Hunter as a person is his emotional intelligence is so strong.
32:22So he has the ability to adapt both in his mind, on the bike, off the bike, and it's something that is being shown as a skill set that is different than a lot of other guys.
32:31Yeah, and like you said, that's his personality, and that's his riding as well.
32:37You know, he kind of lets things come to him, and when he's comfortable, he can beat anybody in the world, including his brother.
32:42But, you know, being older and really seeing where Jet every day, seeing how good he is and all that, you learn.
32:49You know, no matter how old you are, you always learn something, and it's really cool to watch Hunter come out here and have the success that he has.
32:55But I can tell you what, man, if I was getting beat by my younger brother like that, there would be some family violence on here.
33:00So it's impressive for him not to just walk up to his brother and just sock him in the mouth.
33:05He can do that.
33:07He can do it with anything.
33:09It is actually impressive when you think they're starting to square off.
33:13They're one-two in the series.
33:14They're battling each other for wins.
33:15But it has had zero effect on the relationship.
33:19In fact, I heard Jet was on the Justin Brayton-Adams-Seeing Sir Loan podcast this week, and he said, they said, you know, when you win so much, how do you keep your career going?
33:28And he's like, as long as Hunter is there, I'm going to have fun at the races.
33:32That's what makes it fun for him, having his brother there.
33:34They are not rivals that you think they would be, considering they're one-two a lot of weeks.
33:41Yeah, no, and I can't attest to it on this level, but I had the chance to ride with my brother, you know, doing the outdoors here to promote.
33:49And there was a feeling that it was a different one, racing him.
33:54I was so happy for him when he got his podium.
33:57I wanted to be second.
33:58If he got third, I wanted to beat him.
34:00But there is a different level to it and an excitement and care for each other, you know, having your brother out there.
34:06And I can only imagine being at this level, how cool it is.
34:10But, yeah, at the end of the day, I think that's where their dad, Darren, and their whole family, mom, and really preaching family first, no matter what.
34:18And I've had a chance to spend time with both these boys out here.
34:21That's really how they are.
34:22And the only time I've seen Jet really frustrated, if something happens to Hunter, then he attacks the rest of the field out there.
34:29But these two love each other.
34:31And I'm sure the happiest person on this racetrack is going to be Jet Lawrence if his brother holds on and wins this race,
34:36because he's happy for his brother any time he has success.
34:39Yeah, their dad has said many times, look, boys, you're going to be not racers for a much longer period of life than you're going to be racers.
34:46Maybe the professional career is a dozen years or so.
34:50Don't burn the relationship, you know, in that heat.
34:55And then have trouble for the rest of your life.
34:57So they are keeping a family first, like you said.
34:59If you go over to the Honda truck, they come into the race together.
35:01They leave the race together.
35:03They're eating lunch together.
35:04Last week, heck, they even switched bikes on Pred State to try some different settings.
35:09Which is another huge advantage to have teammates that get along that well.
35:14There's usually a little something between teammates, but there is no heat like that between these two Honda runners.
35:21Yeah, well, Darren's telling them to keep family first.
35:24Well, they've taken it to a whole different level because they are family first.
35:28Both of them are runner one and two in this.
35:29Yeah, yeah, first and second.
35:30Yeah, first and second.
35:31Family is truly first out here for these two boys.
35:35Okay, so Jet not able to replicate last week's run.
35:37And I got to ask the question.
35:40He got the second.
35:41We saw that eight to nine second gap.
35:42He looked over.
35:44Is there part of him that said, I gave it a run.
35:46We'll wait for Moto2?
35:48Yeah, I mean, I think he obviously made that decision.
35:52And you see Chase Sexton ten seconds behind him.
35:55I think the decision was made because of how good Hunter was riding.
35:58You know, I don't know if it was a decision rather than I can't catch him.
36:02I'm not going to get it.
36:02Yeah, I'm not going to be able to get him.
36:04So I'm ten seconds ahead of Chase.
36:06I can get this overall victory, which is ultimately what I want.
36:09I'm happy to have my brother win.
36:11But he also knows first is good as, second is just as good as the first in these first motos, especially outdoors.
36:17So he'll let him have one.
36:19We'll see about that relationship in this next moto.
36:23Last lap for Hunter Lawrence looking for his first moto win of 20-25.
36:29Yeah, that was a respectful way of describing it.
36:31Is Jet hustling all the way down to the checkered flag?
36:33No.
36:34But it was partially because Hunter was riding so well.
36:37He didn't give it to him.
36:38He couldn't get him.
36:39And we saw that graphic where that gap got down to six seconds.
36:43And that's where JT was talking about.
36:45Like I saw Jet making that run.
36:47So he wanted to get there, but Hunter picked that pace up.
36:50And again, Jet knew I'm probably going to hit the ground given away how difficult this racetrack is.
36:57It only gives you so much.
36:59He's already on the line.
37:00He decided to take second.
37:03Hey, remember at the beginning of the show, we mentioned the $2,000 that Rocky Mountain ATV MC got to give to Lorenzo LaCurcio.
37:11We'll update him.
37:12He just actually passed Jorge Prado, who is now back to 12th.
37:16This is Lorenzo LaCurcio on that wildcat, Gascas.
37:20So he is up to 11th.
37:22Good run for him.
37:23Guillaume is 10th.
37:25Shot 9th.
37:25Barsha 8th.
37:27Malcolm Stewart 7th.
37:28White flag now for LaCurcio.
37:31Yeah, good run by Malcolm.
37:35Like he said, figuring some stuff out.
37:37Best moto of the year, 7th.
37:39And closing in on Eli.
37:40He's going to run out of time, but nobody's better than this guy.
37:44This moto.
37:44And a couple fans pointed out to me last week.
37:46We do have the Marquez brothers running 1-2 in MotoGP.
37:51So we do have some brothers doing this in other forms, but I don't know.
37:55This might be the highest level of all.
37:56Another 1-2.
37:58First moto at Millville goes to Hunter Lawrence.
38:04Yeah, absolutely.
38:05What they're doing is just as impressive.
38:07And look for the rematch in Moto2.
38:12The overall win streak on the line for Jett, who takes second.
38:16That is the fourth career 450 moto win for Hunter.
38:21And Chase Sexton looking to bring it across to the Red Bull KTM in third.
38:25See, with my personality, I will go up to Hunter, but I do a good job.
38:29But you know you only won because I crashed, right?
38:31Just wanted to point that out.
38:32But good job.
38:33Great job.
