00:00In 1812, Napoleon Bonaparte launched his most ambitious military campaign, the invasion of
00:08Russia. With over 600,000 soldiers, the Grand Army marched into the vast Russian lands expecting a
00:17quick victory. But the Russians had a deadly strategy, scorched earth. They burned their
00:24own villages and crops, leaving nothing for the French to eat or use. When Napoleon's army
00:31reached Moscow, they found it abandoned and engulfed in flames, destroyed by the Russians
00:38themselves. Then came the brutal Russian winter. Thousands of soldiers froze, starved, and collapsed
00:46from exhaustion. Constant attacks by Russian forces turned the retreat into a nightmare.
00:53In the end, only about 100,000 men made it back. The invasion was a disaster, and it marked
01:02the beginning of Napoleon's downfall.
