00:06Taiwan's top artistic gymnasts are gearing up for the World University Games,
00:10the biggest multi-sport event for university students,
00:14formerly known as the Universiade.
00:17The Games get underway on July 16 and will be held in several cities in Germany.
00:22This year, a total of 10 gymnasts, 5 men and 5 women,
00:26are representing the country in artistic gymnastics under the name Chinese Taipei.
00:49One member of the team is 21-year-old Tonya Paulson,
00:52born in Sweden and known locally by her Chinese name, Chen Rui-an.
00:57She just officially joined Taiwan's national team earlier this year,
01:00having previously competed for the country of her birth.
01:03I've competed for the Swedish national team since I was 12 years old,
01:07so for a very long time, and we've had some problems in the Federation.
01:11Also, my mom is from Taiwan, she's 100% Taiwanese,
01:15so I would just feel very proud to represent her country and my heritage.
01:20The addition of Paulson is seen as a valuable asset for the team,
01:24helping younger athletes to grow and learn from her experience,
01:28especially Liao Yichun, who just graduated from senior high school
01:32and is competing in the World University Games for the first time.
01:36In the training and the competition,
01:40it's very strong, and the difficulty of the movement is very high.
01:45There are some of the things I'm doing, but it's like two movements,
01:51it's not a lot.
01:52So I just hope I can learn more with her.
01:55Now, with fresh faces on Taiwan's artistic gymnastics team,
01:59the country hopes to bag its first women's artistic gymnastics medal
02:03at the World University Games,
02:05when this year's edition kicks off in Germany in the coming week.
