Sails of iconic Paris club the Moulin Rouge turn again

The sails of the windmill on top of Paris’ iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret club began to turn again on July 10, 2025 for the first time since they fell off in 2024. Dancers performed in front of the venue in the Montmartre district, in the north of the French capital to celebrate the re-start of the sails' rotation, while others held sparklers behind the lettering of the club's sign. Crowds of tourists and Paris residents came to watch the display. The Moulin Rouge, founded in 1889, became a global symbol of end-of-the-century Parisian culture, its famed can-can dancers widely depicted in paintings by avant-garde artists of the era such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Georges Seurat. Nowadays the audience is largely made up of tourist groups.

00:00I actually couldn't be happier for our windmill to turn again. It's so exciting that we get to
00:17perform out the front of the windmill to make it turn again and it's really special to us because
00:22it's so iconic for the Moulin Rouge and just to see it spin again brings back the magic I think
00:27to the theatre and to Paris. We were really sad when the wings fell off and then we got our windmill
00:33back up just before the Olympics which was a really exciting time but they still weren't spinning
00:37so we've been waiting patiently for them to spin again so we've all been so excited and tonight the
00:43energy backstage in first show with everyone just couldn't wait to come out and see the windmill spin
00:47again and I'm sure the public are here to see the windmill spin so it's just really exciting for all
00:51of us
01:21so it's it's for us a very important moment because we're getting back to normal with the
01:29Moulin Rouge and its sails in motion as we knew it forever I mean the Moulin Rouge is 135 years old
01:37and the sails has always been in motion so it's for us you know giving back to Paris it's symbolic
01:44Moulin Rouge as it was and since the beginning of the year we rebuilt everything inside you know to
01:51to get the rotation as it used to be and of course we renew everything it's lighter than before and
01:58the whole thing has been you know strengthened to avoid any further problem
