00:41into a giant, joyous water park. Absolutely everyone joins in on the fun starting with the kids.
00:47All the way to the elders, embracing the spirit of the festival with open arms. It's all about
00:52splashing away the misfortunes of the past year and joyfully welcoming renewal and fresh starts.
00:58Water is seen as a symbol of purification and cleansing but Songkran is not just about the
01:03fun and games, there's a deep sense of tradition woven into every aspect of the celebration.
01:08One beautiful example is the pouring of scented water over the hands of elders,
01:13a gesture of respect and reverence. Beyond the water fights, the streets come alive with the
01:18aromas and flavors of incredible food. The air is filled with music creating an infectious energy
01:24that's impossible to resist. And everywhere you look, you'll see smiles and hear laughter,
01:29a testament to the pure joy of Songkran. Indulge in the sweet delight of mango sticky rice,

01:40tantalize your taste buds. These culinary delights provide the perfect fuel for all the festivities,
01:46keeping everyone energized and ready to celebrate. Songkran is more than just a water fight,
01:51its pure, unadulterated joy, a vibrant celebration of community-cherished traditions,
01:56and the most delicious food imaginable. Next, China's Lunar New Year, a multi-week festival
02:02of red lanterns, fireworks, and dragon dances. The color red and loud celebrations ward off bad luck,
02:09rooted in ancient legend. But at its heart, it's about family millions travel home for reunion
02:14dinners and dumpling making. It's the world's largest annual migration all for one meal together.
02:19Chinese New Year is a spectacular blend of tradition, family, and hope.
02:25Journey with us to Ethiopia, a land of ancient traditions and vibrant celebrations.
02:30Here, as the calendar turns, Enkutatash marks the New Year in September,
02:34a time of profound cultural significance and joyous festivities. It's a moment eagerly
02:39anticipated throughout the country. The arrival of Enkutatash is beautifully synchronized with nature,
02:45as golden mescal daisies burst into bloom across the Ethiopian hillsides, painting the landscape in
02:51hues of yellow and gold after the refreshing rains. These flowers symbolize the end of the rainy season
02:57and the promise of a bright future. As the celebrations begin, families dress in pristine white
03:03traditional attire, and they attend church services, offering prayers for blessings and prosperity in
03:09the year ahead. The air is filled with the sounds of hymns, and the spirit of reverence. Adding to the
03:14festive atmosphere, children joyfully sing door-to-door, carrying colorful bouquets of flowers,
03:20and they are rewarded for their cheerful carols by receiving small gifts and tokens of appreciation.
03:26No Ethiopian celebration is complete without a feast, and the centerpiece is often the spicy
03:31dorowat, accompanied by a traditional coffee ceremony. A slow, meaningful, and shared ritual
03:37that embodies hospitality and connection. It's a gentle, hopeful celebration filled with laughter,
03:43music, and the warmth of human connection. Enkutatash is a time of renewal and togetherness,
03:48strengthening bonds between family and community. As the sun rises on the new year, Enkutatash reminds
03:54us that new beginnings, much like the blooming mescal daisies, can be as simple and beautiful as
03:59sunshine after rain, bringing hope and joy to all. In Iran, as the snow melts and the first blossoms
04:05appear, Noruz welcomes spring with open arms. It's a time of renewal, a fresh start, and a
04:11celebration of nature's awakening after a long winter slumber. Noruz also marks the Persian New
04:16Year at the spring equinox, a precise astronomical moment signifying balance and harmony. This ancient
04:22tradition is deeply rooted in Persian culture, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness.
04:27In preparation for the new year, families engage in a thorough deep clean of their homes,
04:32a symbolic act of cleansing and purification. This tradition known as Kane Takani, is all about
04:38getting rid of the old to make way for the new. Central to Noruz is the setting of the half-scene
04:43table, a beautiful display of symbolic items. This table features seven symbolic items, each starting
04:50with the Persian letter scene, S, carefully chosen for their significance. These items represent renewal,
04:56health, prosperity, and joy, setting the stage for a year filled with blessings. As the precise moment of
05:03the equinox arrives, families and loved ones gather together, often around the half-scene table, to share in
05:09the joy of the new year. It's a time for heartfelt connections where people exchange gifts, offer blessings,
05:15and wish each other a happy and prosperous new year. The Noruz celebration extends beyond the home, culminating
05:21in outdoor picnics and gatherings in parks and gardens. These picnics are a joyful way of casting
05:27away bad luck, embracing the beauty of nature, and celebrating the arrival of new life and new
05:32beginnings. Noruz is more than just a new year, it's a poetic and ancient celebration, steeped in tradition
05:39and symbolism. It's a time for rebirth, renewal, and a strong sense of community, connecting generations
05:45through shared customs and heartfelt festivities. India's new year isn't just one day. It's a
05:52kaleidoscope of festivals across regions and religions. From Diwali's lights in the west, to
05:57Ugadi's six-flavor chutney in the south, to Punjab's Baisaki harvest dances in the north, each celebration
06:03is unique. Every festival reflects local culture, faith, and history. Experiencing India's new years is to
06:10witness unity and diversity. In Israel, Rosh Hashanah is a time for reflection and prayer, and hope. The
06:16Shafar's ancient call signals a fresh start, while apples dipped in honey wish for a sweet year ahead.
06:22Families gather for festive meals with round shala and pomegranates, symbols of life and abundance.
06:28It's a balance of introspection and joyful celebration. Rosh Hashanah is about starting anew,
06:33in the calendar and the heart. In Nepal, Navavarsha arrives in April with vibrant festivals like
06:39Bhaktapur's Biscuit Jatra. Teams tug a massive chariot through ancient streets, uniting the
06:45community in energetic celebration. Families reunite, visit temples, and share feasts, surrounded by music
06:52and dance. The spirit is optimistic, joyful, and deeply rooted in tradition. Nepal's new year is a
06:58celebration of unity, heritage, and hope. That's our whirlwind tour of new years around the world. No
07:04matter the date, every celebration is about hope, family, and new beginnings. Which tradition would you
07:09love to experience? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for joining me. Don't forget to like,
