04:29Maharashtra's slapstick politics.
04:36Top focus on Five Life.
04:38One week can be a long time in politics and for Maharashtra, we've seen what happened in the past seven days.
04:48I just want to take you through and jog your memory about what Maharashtra, especially Mumbai city, has seen.
04:53MNS Kada slapping a shopkeeper a week ago.
04:56Now a sitting MLA seen slapping, thrashing, beating a canteen staffer because there were complaints against him for alleged adulteration in the dal that was served at the MLA hostel.
05:08Now let's assume for a minute if all these issues that have been mentioned or shown here recorded on camera are significant.
05:15Whether it's Marathi pride to food security concerns.
05:19But a question I ask on Five Life this evening.
05:23Is violence becoming the new rule book ahead of Brihan Mumbai municipal elections?
05:28Will this become now a competitive sport in politics in Maharashtra?
05:32Who thrashes more?
05:33Who records it better on camera?
05:35And is this what the Maharashtra leadership intends to support?
05:39What happened in the latest on your screens?
05:42This is ground report.
05:43This is Shiv Sena MLA, Sanjay Gaikwad caught on camera.
05:54Maharashtra's netas are not pulling their punches these days.
06:00Here you can see Shiv Sena MLA, Sanjay Gaikwad assaulting the contractor of the Akashwani MLA canteen in Mumbai on Tuesday.
06:09The MLA claimed the food delivered to his room was substandard and he started feeling sick.
06:16He marched to the canteen downstairs right away to address the issue.
06:21According to the MLA, multiple complaints about food quality were ignored and he was simply serving the cause of justice.
06:29While no action was against the ruling party MLA, food safety officers were sent to raid the canteen on Wednesday.
06:51According to canteen staff, this isn't the first time.
06:52This is the first time.
06:53This is the first time.
06:54This is the first time.
06:55This is the first time.
06:56such an incident has taken place.
06:57According to canteen staff, this isn't the first time such an incident has taken place.
06:59According to canteen staff, this isn't the first time such an incident has taken place.
07:20Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the MLA Sanjay Gaikwad's action unacceptable and directed Deputy CM Eknath Shinde to take action.
07:43The opposition demanded Gaikwad's arrest.
07:50My maharaj chakhe, Manani Mukhya Mantriji ko binti karti hoon ki aise jho unke vicharon mein kaam karne waale ya kooi bhi MLA ho, agar aise harakate karay to usko polis station laake andre ndra ndra ndra chahi hai.
08:04There has been a series of incidents involving politicians and party workers in Maharashtra in recent times.
08:19In Vashim, MNS workers were caught on camera vandalizing a toll plaza on Tuesday.
08:25And on July 7th, the drunk son of an MNS leader was seen abusing and assaulting a woman influenza.
08:33Earlier on July 3rd, a street vendor in Thane was slapped by MNS workers just because he could not speak Marathi.
08:41In all these cases, what stands out is the lack of action by the Mahayuti government.
08:48The big question remains, how long will political hooliganism go unchecked in Maharashtra?
08:55With Vidya, Om Karwable and Harshita Parab, EuroReport, India Today.
09:02So if in Maharashtra someone's offended with you, a slap is coming your way, at least from a politician or their carder.
09:10Mustafa Sheikh is joining me live from Mumbai.
09:12This MLA, Sanjay Gaikwar is an MLA from the Ekna Chinde Sena.
09:16Mustafa, has Ekna Chinde said anything we believe?
09:19The Chief Minister, Farnabas, has said a lot.
09:22In fact, this MLA also says no regrets.
09:26Did it for a reason.
09:27My question is, if there were complaints, couldn't there have been other options explored?
09:32Is this now becoming Maharashtra politics?
09:38Well, yes, Puja.
09:39If you see what's happening in the last few days, especially, that's why Sanjay Gaikwar's incident is a shocking incident.
09:44Yes.
09:45Remember, if he was complaining for food or if he had assaulted someone, he has went ahead and made sure that one of his colleagues record this entire video.
09:53Maybe it was a publicity stunt.
09:55Maybe something else is something which has to be said.
09:58But the Chief Minister has taken a stringent, strict line on this entire issue.
10:01It said that the MLAs of the state are being put in bedline due to this incident.
10:06He has went on to say that if the Speaker of the House thinks appropriate and any action should be taken, then the action should be taken.
10:12That's what he has said against an MLA in the alliance.
10:15Ekna Shinde's official version or comment is yet to come out on this issue.
10:20But the language, Rao, which was taking place in Maharashtra, people being assaulted or beaten up.
10:26After that, this video comes up of the MLA complaining about bad quality of food and assaulting a person, even punching and slapping him on video.
10:34So this is something which is not sending out a good message about public representatives in the people's, in the arena of public life.
10:42And hence, you can say that there is been this feeling in Maharashtra about lawlessness and the state and whether the law enforcement agencies are doing enough.
10:52Because what we are told in this incident also is that the contractor of the canteen who was beaten up is not ready to file a police complaint against the MLA even after the incident being on record.
11:02So it's known that the politicians...
11:04There's fear. It's understandable. He's a canteen staffer.
11:06There would be this political pressure on him and just the fear if he'll get a job again.
11:11But this is what's turning out to be a good point made by Mustafa here.
11:14Remember, in earlier instances, there were either MNS carder, workers.
11:19Because this time, it's a sitting MLA, an elected representative who's resorting to violence.
11:24I request you to please stay on with me.
11:26Now remember, the defence here is of the leader that there were complaints against him.
11:30That he was not serving good quality dal.
11:33And what was the solution to him?
11:35Go, punch him, slap him.
11:37That's the language that a sitting MLA believes is needed to be done.
11:41We have more news coming in from Maharashtra.
11:43While there's this language war, a Marathi versus non-Marathi speaking,
11:48MNS chief Raj Thakre, amid the backlash and criticism that has come in
11:52with the behaviour against the shopkeeper,
11:54has prohibited his party workers and members from directly interacting with the media
11:59or to post personal reactions on social media platforms.
12:03Is there a gag order that's come in?
12:05He's even asked the party's official spokesperson not to speak to the media directly,
12:09that is, without his prior approval.
12:12Is it turning out to be more troublesome?
12:16A headache for Raj Thakre than he expected ahead of BMC elections, expected later this year.
12:21Mustafa, this is interesting because earlier we believed that Raj Thakre was defiant on this issue
12:26and he stood by his cadre and workers as well.
12:29What are you picking up about this restraint?
12:31Well, you can say that there was a protest which happened in Meera Road yesterday.
12:41In that protest there was some misbehaviour with TV news channel reporters
12:46because some workers just refused to speak in Marathi.
12:53So, be it the political leaders who say that they don't have anything against Hindi,
12:57but they will not allow Hindi imposition.
12:59But on ground, whenever there are such language protests taking place,
13:03people just refuse to speak in Hindi or any other languages.
13:07If you are reporting for any other medium, then you will need the responses in that medium.
13:13That's why the clash had happened.
13:14That is one of the reasons.
13:16And maybe the issue which had took place in the case of MNS functionary's son, Javed Sheik,
13:21who was drunk in one of the incidences, which in the case was listed in Ambuli Police.
13:28So, these are things which have made Raj Thakre think that there is some wrong messaging going on in public
13:35about this entire issue, about how this should be communicated.
13:39Hence, he has come out a gag order.
13:41The gag order is not only for the party workers to not speak with media.
13:45It's the official appointed spokesperson too.
13:48They have to take permission from Raj Thakre as to what they have to say on this issue and then speak.
13:53So, clearly there is a messaging of that clear message of communication should happen
13:58and people should not have any misunderstanding about any issue.
14:01Especially the language issue, if you see, it became a national issue.
14:05It became an issue of concern.
14:08Many even people, Marathi speaking people said coming out that people of Maharashtra
14:13going outside of Maharashtra and not able to speak the local language will also be given the same treatment.
14:18So, these are things which have been considered by the MNS and the MNS chief has said that only after discussing with him...
14:23But sadly there has been a start and there was defence to it as well.
14:26Perhaps there has been a step back on this, but we will see how this goes for now.
14:30MNS workers and their leaders, members will not be speaking directly to the media persons.
14:35They will have to now go through their top leader for what to say and when.
14:40But you watched all of this slapstick politics for days now.
14:43But what are the real issues for Maharashtra?
14:46Let me take you through a reality check.
14:49This is the latest from Nagpur, for example.
14:52Incessant rainfall has disrupted life in Nagpur, exposing civic vulnerabilities.
14:57The city recorded 55mm rainfall by the MED department.
15:00People are struggling through knee-deep water.
15:03There is also Vidharba, where Vidharba, when is not facing drought or farmer suicide,
15:08is facing rain fury this time.
15:10MED department has marked Vidharba as an area of concern in the National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin.
15:15Then there is always the Mumbai city, the big financial hub, film industry,
15:20the business hub of the country.
15:22And we have seen that even more than the usual rainfall when it happens,
15:25even if a few millimetre here or there, there are dangerous situations
15:29that emerge for local residents, whether it's open potholes,
15:32whether it's waterlogging and whether that's inconvenience.
15:36These should be the real issues, isn't it?
15:38Instead, we have sitting MLAs and workers and CADAs going around slapping people
15:43because they believe they can get away.
15:46And how?
15:47Think about it.
15:48So these are some of the details that are coming in from Maharashtra
15:51and we'll continue to track.
15:52Is it just a coincidence that BMC elections are coming up
15:56or perhaps the new normal for Maharashtra politics?
15:59Let me now take you to Uttar Pradesh.
16:01There's a huge controversy that's erupted.
16:03There's an alleged conversion racket and how?
16:06A kingpin by the name of Changur Baba.
16:09As he's known, it's escalating.
16:11But it's unearthed a sinister mix of religion, riches and outrage.
16:16There's a three-biga mansion in Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh
16:20which is over three crore rupees of that man on your screen.
16:23It's now been reduced to rubble though after two days of relentless bulldozer action that has come in.
16:29Now the man's name is Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba.
16:33He kept a humble public image, so to say, but there was a deep underground network.
16:38His aides have been wife Neetu, there's one Naveen Vora as well.
16:42Now this is very interesting.
16:44This family, these three individuals, actually converted in Dubai about a decade ago.
16:50He renamed the woman who was Neetu as Nasreen.
16:54And they were all working now with this new self-discovered, self-found Baba.
16:59Then there was a network that started.
17:01Finally, a CJM court clerk in Balrampur has been removed as well after links to the property surfaced with the Baba.
17:08Why are we talking about this Baba and the conversion racket right now?
17:12There was a high-tech fortress disguised as an ashram in Balrampur.
17:16Look at that.
17:17CCTV grids, solar panels, foreign breed animals, a powerhouse, a private power plant inside his mansion to keep surveillance uninterrupted.
17:27Investigators have found muscle enhancers, imported oils from Spain, Dubai labelled items.
17:33Secret rooms allegedly used to run a massive religious conversion racket, specifically targeting young Hindu girls.
17:41As Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called the crime anti-national, the state is now widening the net against this empire built on faith and fraud.
17:48And importantly, for every conversion done, there was a massive reward in place.
17:54I want you to take a look at this ground report from inside this mansion in Balrampur.

19:24Apparently it was the police.
19:26I'm sorry.
19:27It's the house of the house.
19:29That's the house of jhangur baba used to be in this house.
19:34You see, the house of the house has 4-4 weeks.
19:39The house of the house is running the house.
19:44This is a store room.
19:46We see, there are some medicines that have brought.
19:50This is the medicine that has been received.
19:57This is the medicine that has been said in a clear way.
20:03This is the medicine that has been used for the body.
20:09This is the Spanish oil.

21:56Thank you very much.
22:26This is an incredible
22:56story that has now been unearthed.
22:58Who is this Shangur Baba
23:00alias Jalaluddin? We have the details
23:02that are coming in. Now, his
23:04original name, in fact, is one Ghanshiam.
23:07He, with two others,
23:08reportedly converted to Islam in
23:10Dubai. Barely a decade ago,
23:12about 2015, was when they went
23:14to Dubai and converted. Then
23:16they returned to Uttar Pradesh and set up
23:18shop in Balrampur. He's being
23:20seen as an alleged mastermind of
23:22the UP mass conversion racket.
23:24He's about 70 years of age.
23:26How did he manage to lure and convert,
23:28especially young Hindu girls?
23:30Money, wedding promises
23:32and then there was threat
23:34and coercion as well for conversions.
23:37The specific target were,
23:38expectedly, because of the money and rewards,
23:41poor women,
23:42widows and minors.
23:45100 plus
23:46crore rupees have been tracked in 40
23:48bank accounts connected to the fund
23:50conversions. Was there
23:52foreign funding coming to this man
23:54and his family to be able to convert
23:56more? All of this happening in
23:58Balrampur, in Uttar Pradesh,
24:00till complaints started to be filed.
24:02A scam was unearthed.
24:04But what happened with regard to
24:06his own property? How did he become
24:08a millionaire barely in
24:1010 years since this conversion
24:12racket was unraveling?
24:14There were foreign breed animals,
24:16horses and dogs that were found at his mansion.
24:18White marble
24:20horse stable. So even the stable
24:22for the horses, made of foreign
24:24material of white marble.
24:25There were solar panels.
24:27Fully equipped powerhouse.
24:28There's a reason for it.
24:30He tried to be off the grid and
24:31possibly off surveillance as well.
24:34Stone electric pillars were found
24:36from that mansion, that huge
24:38house in Balrampur.
24:39Batteries, MCBs,
24:41muscle boosters as well
24:43for his strength.
24:44Strengthening pills allegedly
24:46have been found as well.
24:47Imported oil, specifically from
24:49the Gulf nations and other
24:50countries, including from Spain.
24:53Items that were found
24:54for himself possibly
24:55and others as well.
24:57This is very concerning, remember?
24:58That for 10 years,
25:00with the serious charges against him,
25:02he managed to get away.
25:03How did he become a millionaire
25:04in 10 years?
25:06Was it because of the funding
25:07he was getting
25:08through conversions?
25:10My colleague Ashish Srivastav
25:11joins me for the latest on that.
25:14Ashish, you tell me,
25:15what did you find around you
25:17and what existed earlier?
25:19I can see you behind you,
25:20you have to do a bulldozer action
25:21and politics has escalated.
25:24What did you see
25:26inside that mansion
25:27of this man?
25:28Why is it suspicious?
25:29Pooja, yes, you can see
25:35this bulldozer action
25:37which is running on here
25:38and that's how
25:39the biggest conversion racket
25:41was running
25:42behind this
25:43Jhangir Baba.
25:44And that's why
25:45it was a reason
25:46that more than
25:47six bulldozers
25:48which you can see
25:49through this visual
25:49was running continuously
25:51to demolish this
25:52structure,
25:53this building
25:53which was
25:54constructed by
25:55Jhangir Baba.
25:56And this time
25:57it is not just a case
25:58of the typical
25:58religious conversion racket
26:00but also one of the
26:00alleged fraud
26:01worth crores
26:02and conspiracies
26:03carried out
26:04under the guise
26:05of so-called
26:06scent.
26:06Police are investigating
26:07how Jhangir Baba
26:08who once sold rings
26:10on the street
26:11eventually become
26:12the owner of
26:13property's worth crores.
26:14During the investigation
26:15police have identified
26:17the mastermind
26:18behind the
26:18Jaluruddin
26:19operation.
26:20according to
26:22evidence

26:36but he was
26:37from
26:37this

26:45In investigation
26:46have found
26:46that the

27:54elevator
27:54in a
27:55lift
27:55in

28:24to bite
28:25this little

33:24This bridge is about two years ago, but there was nothing to happen.
33:35The team and people have a lot of people.
33:40It was about two years ago, but there was nothing to happen.
33:47Today, this is a big deal.
33:49As shock and horror turned into anger, a predictable script of apathy and negligence emerged.
34:10The bridge was reportedly repaired just last year.
34:13And only three months ago, a Rs.212 crore replacement was greenlit by the Chief Minister.
34:19Clearly, it was too late to prevent this devastation.
34:24An investigation into this tragedy has also been ordered by the Chief Minister.
34:39Prime Minister Modi called the incident deeply saddening, announcing Rs.2 lakh compensation for the families of the diseased and Rs.50,000 for the injured.
35:00A routine crossing turned into a nightmare.
35:05Now, while Gujarat mourns, it also waits for answers and hopefully accountability.
35:11With Digvijay Pathak in Vadodara, Bureau Report, India Today.
35:20Remember that this is while as much about infrastructure development and if there was already a certain repair done about a year ago, project was being sanctioned for later as well.
35:30How and why did this bridge collapse?
35:32But this is about human lives also that I am talking about.
35:35A woman and a child fell into the river because when the bridge collapsed, they were on that bridge.
35:41And just listening now to this mother wailing and crying, she managed to save herself but watched her little child drown in the river.
35:51Who will take accountability?
35:52Who will come and answer this mother?
36:08Just remember now raises a question.
36:10If there has already been a certain repair that was done about over crores of rupees were being sanctioned for further development as well and not the first time for Gujarat.
36:19What are the local authorities going to say to the people who have lost their loved ones?
36:24And it raises an issue that a few hours of rainfall, of monsoon, that does make some of these areas sketchy.
36:32But isn't it the responsibility of as much the administration to ensure such incidents do not happen?
36:38Atul Tiwari joins me for the latest on that.
36:40He's been tracking and getting us all the updates as well.
36:44Tell us about where this bridge is, Atul.
36:47How important is it?
36:48What is the rescue operation looking like?
36:50How many dead?
36:51How many have been rescued alive?
36:53How many those drivers locally left now?
36:58What happens here?
36:59This bridge is broken down from Varodra to Anand and Saurastra and Madhya Gujarat
37:04is very important to recognize this bridge.
37:07I will show you the picture of my back to you.
37:10The bridge is broken down from the span.
37:14The vehicles of this bridge are broken down from 5 times.
37:18They are broken down from the bridge.
37:21There is also a truck that is in the morning.
37:24It is broken down from the bridge.
37:27It is broken down from the bridge.
37:30It is broken down from the bridge.
37:32The truck is broken down from the bridge.
37:34This is a bridge.
38:04It was the last year, but it was the place that the people of Congress and the Congress
38:08were doing it and one of them was asking that this bridge to see the city of heavy vehicles
38:13has been stopped, but the government of the government has been stopped by any kind of
38:18the government of the government and the government of the government has not stopped.
38:23Finally, this is a dangerous situation in which 10 people have been killed, but if
38:27the government of Gujarat has been talking about 5 years, this is a situation where
38:31Taksila Kannd was born in Morbi Bridge.
38:34Then in Banas Kanta, a factory in the Pataak
38:37in the factory, and in Varodra,
38:41a burning card also.
38:42In the past five years, there were
38:44five to six big big events.
38:45The Raja Kota is also a big event.
38:48Now this is another big event.
38:50The bridge was 40 years ago.
38:54The bridge was broken.
38:55The bridge was built by the government.
38:57The team was built by the government,
38:59which was made a report.
39:00and why the bridge is in a second wiped off.
39:14But with this bridge, there were complaints that the bridge didn't seem to be in the best
39:21situation, because in the monsoon season there is a situation that is dangerous.
39:28And they didn't have complaints in the account.
39:58This bridge was the same as the stability report.
40:00The most important part of this bridge was the same as the stability report.
40:05The stability report was the same as the road and building department.
40:11The bridge was the same as the road and building department.
40:18The bridge was the same as the road and building department.
40:25The bridge had no to pass on.
40:26While the bridge were on, there were also some walls, the walls, the doors were
40:34revealed.
40:35The bridge was on, when people were however lost, so the bridge was still going
40:40completely vibrate.
40:41which also makes a lot of vibration in the front of the bridge.
40:48When there is a lot of vibration in the front of the bridge,
40:51but for some months, there is a lot of vibration in the front of the bridge.
40:56If you can see the bridge and location of our viewers,
41:00how long the bridge was being crucial,
41:03this was connected to Vadoodra and Anand.
41:06So, let's see how the situation is.
41:11I will try to get the bridge in the front of the bridge.
41:13I will try to get the bridge through the bridge.
41:16I will try to get the bridge through the bridge.
41:20My left hand side,
41:22there is a crane,
41:25is a 23-span bridge.
41:27It was a very long bridge.
41:291981, this bridge was started to build.
41:321985, this bridge was opened.
41:34It was a very long bridge.
41:38And the bridge was in the front of the bridge.
41:41The bridge was almost there.
41:43When it came from the bridge,
41:44the bridge was already on the front of the bridge.
41:47This bridge was the same way.
41:48Which could also be an image of a tanker,
41:50which is still on the top of the bridge.
41:53But it was only a tanker to remove
41:55the bridge.
41:57The truck is down to the bridge.
41:59which is going to get out of the way,
42:01and this is the river,
42:03the river, the river,
42:05and the river,
42:07if someone tries to go inside,
42:09then the river is going to the river.
42:11So, NDRFO, SDRFO,
42:13the police or the fire brigade
42:15team, they also have to face
42:17a lot of pain.
42:19But, for example,
42:21this bridge,
42:23and in the 40 years,
42:25the bridge has been set up
42:27and the bridge has been set up.
42:29If this bridge has been set up,
42:31and if this happens,
42:33then the bridge has been set up.
42:35I cannot help but think about that mother
42:37who managed to survive but watched her little child drown.
42:39It would be a scar
42:41she'll have to live with forever,
42:43and that perhaps, I hope,
42:45is what the authorities and the administration,
42:47those responsible for the maintenance of this bridge,
42:49are forced to watch as well
42:51to remember what people have to deal with
42:53in case of any callousness.
42:55Appreciate you joining us, Atul.
42:57Thank you very much for now.
42:59Remember that there is a monsoon season right now,
43:01which has wreaked havoc in parts of the country.
43:03Let's go through some of the images that are coming in,
43:05especially from our hill states.
43:07Himachal Pradesh.
43:09The death toll in the state has risen to 80.
43:11Rescue operations are underway to rescue people
43:13in the flood-hit area, especially in Mandi.
43:15BJP chief JP Nadda has also reached Mandi,
43:17where the BJP MP, Kangana Ranaut,
43:19was there a few days ago.
43:21He met the people of the area as well.
43:27Himachal Pradesh especially is reeling from
43:29the fury of incessant rainfall,
43:31flash flood, cloudbursts, several roads are blocked,
43:33rivers are in full spade.
43:35Mandi has been the first worst hit.
43:37Extensive damage caused to homes and infrastructure.
43:39Amid the crisis, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu
43:41visited flood-affected areas,
43:43especially in Mandi, to take stock of the situation.
43:47Even in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur,
43:49look at this.
43:50Area has been put on a high alert
43:51due to the continuous rise of the water level
43:53in the Ganga River.
43:59Heavy rainfall in Garcharoli district
44:01has led to the closure of 15 major and minor roads.
44:04Incessant rainfall has also caused overflowing
44:06of the rivers and drains.
44:08Release of water from the Goskut Dam
44:10has worsened the situation.
44:14Let me take you to the northeast.
44:16Assam also is reeling with heavy rainfall
44:18and flood situation.
44:19Look at this.
44:20Heavy flooding in the Morangi-Mauza area.
44:22Several villages have been submerged,
44:24including those in the Khumtai constituency.
44:27300 people at least forced to take shelter
44:30and relief camps.
44:31More than 20 villages have been submerged.
44:34The situation still tense in Assam.
44:37Now a special report that's coming in from Goa.
44:4420 corruption cases, countless complaints,
44:46but no one to act.
44:48We're talking about the state of Goa
44:50where there's been no Loka Yukta now for a year.
44:53Is there no sign of urgency to fill the vacancy?
44:56Opposition has jumped on this.
44:57They're mounting pressure.
44:58Public is also demanding questions.
45:00Here's a special report from Goa.
45:02Six months.
45:05That's how long Goa's anti-corruption ombudsman,
45:09the Loka Yukta, has remained headless.
45:16Since December 2024,
45:18when Justice Ambadas Joshi's term ended,
45:21the state has failed to appoint a successor.
45:24The result?
45:2620 pending complaints.
45:28Zero progress.
45:30The process to appoint a new Loka Yukta
45:35was set in motion in February this year
45:38when the Directorate of Vigilance
45:40asked the Chief Secretary to begin shortlisting names.
45:44But five months on,
45:46there's been no forward movement,
45:48no shortlist,
45:50no consultations,
45:51no appointment.
45:55This inaction basically proves
45:57that the BJP is scared of the exposure of corruption.
46:02Purposely the BJP is trying to hide their corrupt sins,
46:07the way they are looting Goa,
46:09nothing but corruption,
46:11and this is why the simple reason
46:14they are not appointing the Goa.
46:15The government on its part has offered no explanation.
46:21Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was directly asked about the delay,
46:26but refused to respond.
46:28In 2021, the state amended the Loka Yukta Act,
46:45removing key provisions that previously allowed the body
46:48to investigate nepotism,
46:51maladministration,
46:52and actions driven by improper motives.
46:55Legal observers argue this has diluted the Ombudsman's powers
47:00and made accountability harder to enforce.
47:03The non-appointment of a Loka Yukta is an indicator
47:12that the BJP does not want its corruption to be exposed.
47:17It is unfortunate that Goa government has failed to appoint a Loka Yukta
47:20for the last more than six months.
47:22Before that also the office was dysfunctional,
47:25the matters were getting adjourned.
47:27There are matters which are pending for the last four years or five years
47:30because of inefficiency of the office of Loka Yukta.
47:33We will raise this issue in the Legislative Assembly for the upcoming session.
47:38If there is a post under the Act available,
47:42the post should be filled in,
47:45but at the same time amend the Act to make it something
47:51that becomes an effective instrument of fighting corruption,
47:56of fighting nepotism,
47:59and all other things which are wrong in our system.
48:05As the weight drags on,
48:07public trust in the state's anti-corruption mechanism continues to erode.
48:11Justice delayed may well become justice denied.
48:15Bureau Report, India Today.
48:18Now here's one report coming up that concerns most of us,
48:25especially if you have a child at home.
48:27We all know too much screen time is bad, especially for children,
48:31but there's a study now revealing that Indian children under five years of age
48:35are clocking double the safe limit.
48:37Brain development, social skills are getting impacted.
48:40In this report, find out why screen time could be too much
48:44without you realising the impact on your child.
48:49We all know that screen time is bad and we are having too much of it.
48:53But how bad can it get for our kids?
48:56A study says that Indian kids are getting way more screen time
49:00than they should be getting.
49:02Way above the safety limit.
49:05Twice the safety limit.
49:07An average child under the age of five spends 2.2 hours in front of the screen
49:13on a daily basis.
49:15What should be the consumption?
49:18Experts say no screen time before the age of seven.
49:24Parents say it's impossible to keep the child away from the screen.
49:27I know that it's problematic nowadays.
49:29It's difficult.
49:30How does one navigate through this challenge about screen time?
49:33First of all, I'd also like both of you to reiterate to our viewers,
49:37why no screen time?
49:39And it's absolutely unbelievable and unrealistic to think of it like that.
49:43No screen time should be given to children,
49:46at least up until the age of seven is what you say, isn't it?
49:49Aparajita.
49:50Yes.
49:51So why no screen time for children up to the age of seven?
49:56Well, the first seven years are a time of very rapid physical development.
50:03In fact, this time doesn't come back.
50:05The child continues to grow and in fact, well into their twenties and even beyond.
50:10But in the first seven years, it's not just growth,
50:13but the development of all of the organs.
50:16We usually talk about brain development a lot,
50:19but all of the organs are forming in these first seven years.
50:22And the way that the child goes through this physical development is by having physical experiences,
50:30by engaging with the real world around them.
50:34It harms our kids in ways that we can't even imagine.
50:37When they are put in front of a screen, not only are they getting an influx of an overload of these audio visual stimulus,
50:52but they are also missing out on the time that they could have been engaging with the real world.
50:59This will affect the child for the rest of their life.
51:04So that's why we recommend zero screen time in the early years.
51:09A meta-analysis done of 10 studies of 2,857 kids shows it has been linked to slow cognitive development,
51:19language development and poor social skills.
51:23Creating tech-free zones in the house and creating offline play times with kids are now being offered as solutions.
51:32You've also spoken about limiting screen use in front of your children to set an example.
51:37When you're around your young child, the first step is to really limit your screen use.
51:43If you have work to do, step into another room.
51:46If you want to watch a movie, wait till your child falls asleep.
51:51If a child is throwing a tantrum when you pull away their screen, they're already addicted.
51:56So to know that this is a habit and to make, to form a habit or to sort of wean away from a habit, it takes time.
52:06So be patient.
52:07What is worrying and needs urgent redressal is addiction in kids.
52:12In New Delhi, Sneha Murdani for India Today Television.
52:16On that note, I'm wrapping up Five Live.
52:20Thank you very much for watching.
