Slowly, Emily lowers the telephone, cutting off the voice. The handle of the door begins to turn. Emily looks helpless, staring. Barnaby and Troy head back to Badger's Drift from Brighton. Barnaby surmises that Emily must have seen Michael and Katherine in the woods. That's what shocked her. First she phoned the helpline and then Mary Sharpe. Barnaby says Katherine Lacey did the killing. Michael was at home and he had the dog. Judith Lessiter spoke to him through the door. Katherine Lacey set it up to look like an accident. And if it hadn't have been for an observant neighbor and an unlocked tricycle, we'd never have been any the wiser.
