Did man invite dangerous peoples in the room !!! Judge judy episode
Transcript
00:00Mr. Bass, it appears that you were unfortunately displaced by a fire that was here in California
00:06and found a room in the defendant's home where he was renting two rooms in his house.
00:13The other tenant that was living there turned out to be a little nutty.
00:17Would that be a fair statement?
00:18Yes, he was actually a very good...
00:21I didn't ask.
00:22Oh, excuse me.
00:22Okay, sorry.
00:23As a result of him being a little nutty, either or both of you got a restraining order against him
00:29and he was gone.
00:30Then it is your claim that after this person was gone, this was in January, by the way,
00:36of 2018, that you moved in to his house.
00:39The person who left after the restraining order left in what month and year?
00:44Madam, the original tenant was another wonderful roommate who moved because of the hostility
00:50of Mr. Miller.
00:51That's not true.
00:51The second roommate who came in was invited in by Mr. Miller.
00:56He was arrested on the driveway.
00:57Would you just answer my question?
01:01I'm confused as to which one we're speaking about because there subsequently was another
01:05man who violently attacked us and was arrested inside the home.
01:08Just a second.
01:09It's a very simple question.
01:11You moved in in January of 2018.
01:14There was a roommate who turned out to be difficult enough for the landlord.
01:22And I don't know whether you joined with the landlord in seeking a protective order to have
01:27him removed.
01:27Did you join with the landlord?
01:29I did.
01:29I was.
01:30That's either a yes or a no.
01:33You joined with the landlord in getting rid of this other tenant.
01:37Now, my question is, when did that take place?
01:40I believe that was April of this year.
01:42Now, after that, was another roommate admitted to your home?
01:47Yes.
01:47That moved in to take his room.
01:50In what month?
01:51That was in August 1st of this year.
01:54Is that correct?
01:56Yes, ma'am.
01:56And you moved out in what month and year?
02:00Ten days ago.
02:01You moved out in?
02:02I moved most of my things weeks before.
02:05In October.
02:06Yeah, technically.
02:07He's still there.
02:08He still has stuff in his room.
02:10He still has stuff in the kitchen.
02:11But you physically yourself moved out.
02:14Yes, ma'am.
02:15And you understand, Mr. Bassett, if you have property, I assume you did not pay rent after
02:21you moved out.
02:22No, ma'am.
02:22What day in October did you physically move out?
02:25My new rental agreement is dated the 27th of October, so that would have been 10 days
02:29ago.
02:30So you were there the whole month of October?
02:32I wasn't, but some of my property was, and I was coming and going.
02:35Then you lived there.
02:37Did you pay October's rent?
02:38No.
02:39What was your rent?
02:40700.
02:41Did you pay August's rent?
02:42Yes.
02:43So the only rent that you didn't pay was the month of October?
02:47September, ma'am.
02:48You didn't pay September either?
02:50No.
02:50And you were there in September?
02:51Yes.
02:52After filing the action and sending several letters certified to him, asking to be relocated
02:57and to be compensated for the damage, including violent attacks against me, destruction of
03:01my property, an overall hostile environment.
03:04The one man you mentioned that was taken to jail, that was the second man who was arrested
03:08on the property.
03:09He had previously invited another man, a known schizophrenic that Mr. Miller knew had been
03:15arrested for violent acts and was indeed arrested on the driveway while fighting with
03:19the police and screaming and cussing at the neighbors.
03:21That was before the man that you just mentioned was arrested inside the house for violently
03:26attacking me, saying he was going to kill me repeatedly and to kill my family repeatedly,
03:30even while in custody of the police.
03:32He did, in fact, return and stole my property, vandalized my property to the tune of thousands
03:37of dollars and vandalized his car, let the air out of my tires, this sort of thing, with
03:42some sort of large knife that he used to destroy trees of Mr. Miller and do this to his
03:50car door, this sort of thing.
03:51Are you finished?
03:52Yes, ma'am.
03:53Good.
03:53There's no counterclaim here for the two months rent that you owe the defendant, $1,400,
03:59which you did not pay.
04:00You chose to leave.
04:01You moved there in January of 2018 and you lived there a year and a half.
04:05If you were unhappy with the fact that Mr. Miller was not wiser in his selection of roommates,
04:12then you had plenty of time to move.
04:14You had plenty of time to find, I assume, since you are an intelligent man, I assume that you
04:19have a job, then find someplace else to live.
04:22If you feel as if the landlord is not exercising good judgment in the selection of roommates,
04:28because he certainly wouldn't purposely invite somebody that would vandalize his car and rip
04:35his furniture, he wouldn't say, oh, I think I would like that person to come and live with
04:39me, because that's stupid.
04:42He doesn't look like a stupid man.
04:43He may have exercised poor judgment.
04:45You're not getting $5,000.
04:47That's not happening.
04:48You owe him $1,400 in rent, but he doesn't have a counterclaim.
04:52Your case is dismissed.
04:53We're finished.
04:53I wouldn't pay him a cent.
04:55Bodies are excused.
04:56You may step out.
