Vertigo Releasing will be releasing the post-apocalyptic thriller 40 Acres in UK and Irish cinemas from 1st August.
Hailey Freeman (Danielle Deadwyler) and her family are the last descendants of African American farmers who settled in 1875 in rural Canada after the first Civil War. In a famine-decimated future they struggle to make their last stand against those intent on taking their home.
Starring Danielle Deadwyler (Till, I Saw The TV Glow, Carry-On), Kataem O'Connor (Murdoch Mysteries, Time Cut, Heartland), and Michael Greyeyes (The King Tide, 1923, Wild Indian), the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. 40 Acres is certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 91% critic score*.
40 Acres was directed by R.T. Thorne (Blindspot, The Porter), who brought over 20 years experience in directing to the production. 40 Acres is his feature debut, with a script he co-wrote with Glenn Taylor, and a story by Thorne and Lora Campbell (#Interns, Yoga 101).
