00:00Trades became official.
00:01We also had the second day of the California Classic.
00:04Welcome to Game Time.
00:05Chris Miles here with Dennis Scott, also known as 3DE.
00:08And when we're together, we're doing it
00:09like we're doing it to do it for TV.
00:10Let's go.
00:11Bronny James set out the first summer league game on Saturday,
00:14but did take the court on Sunday against the Miami Heat.
00:17We start with LA and Miami Sunday afternoon.
00:20Oh, cookies.
00:21We start with Bronny James.
00:23Oh, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:25Did you see the hang time?
00:26Wait a minute.
00:27I knew he had hockey.
00:27At the end.
00:28Pause the video right there, it seemed like.
00:30Ooh, float, float.
00:31But hold on.
00:32Duncan's one thing.
00:34Hitting corner threes, cashing out.
00:36Ah, now that's going to be important.
00:37You got to make those open shots.
00:39What about Khalil Ware, the all-rookies selection?
00:41Oh, watch your head.
00:42Oh, my goodness, Khalil.
00:4412 points from last year's lottery pick for Miami.
00:48That's go-go gadget on that one.
00:49LA up 12 at the half.
00:51Connect four with only four points in the game.
00:54More on him in a second.
00:56High off the glass on that one.
00:58Cole Swider, though.
00:59Back-to-back 20-point games for him.
01:02Shot seven for 10 from the field in both games in the California Classic.
01:08Swider with 20.
01:09And the Lakers win 103-83.
01:12That is your final score.
01:14But Bronny James, 10 points in 11 minutes.
01:173D looked more comfortable today than we saw all of last season and all of last summer league.
01:23What do you make of what we saw from him in his debut this year in the summer league?
01:26I'm going to add more confident.
01:28You can watch him running up and down the floor.
01:29His instincts, that steal to go down and get that dunk.
01:32He's just happy for the young man because he knows he's on that microscope.
01:36So you thought he was lost there for a second.
01:38You see the instincts.
01:39You get the steal.
01:40You're out and running.
01:40And, yes, I knew he had hops, Chris.
01:42But this right here lets me know this young man has been in the gym, been in the weight room, been working on his body.
01:47Now, big picture, you have to knock down this shot because now this is your dad.
01:52This is Luka.
01:53This is someone else throwing and kicking.
01:54Can you make this shot consistently?
01:57Guess what?
01:57You can help stretch the floor for your team.
01:59Now, transition-wise, I mean, you're just super athletic.
02:02You get out and run.
02:02But this is drawing and kick.
02:04Connect.
02:05Yes.
02:05Love the pass.
02:07Guys running at you and knocking down shots.
02:09Confidence.
02:10Understanding what the NBA game is, the physicality, the pace of the game.
02:13It lets me know he learned a lot from last year.
02:15He's also a good start here in the Summer League.
02:17And a lot of times when we see these second-year players, there's a leap you want to see.
02:20Correct.
02:20Dalton connect in two games.
02:22You ready for the stats?
02:2314 points.
02:245 for 20 from the field.
02:260 for 6 from three-point range.
02:28Are you surprised that he's struggling in his first two games in California Classic?
02:32I wouldn't say surprised.
02:33I would say concerned, Chris.
02:34Because most guys, when you go into your second year, you're like, I really don't want to be here.
02:38What do I need to do to prove to the general manager and coaching staff that I'm a part of the big picture?
02:43With all those first two or three games, you dominate.
02:45You let the rest of the world know, like, why is he playing?
02:48So his first couple games, he hasn't shot the ball particularly well.
02:51I like to play making a draw and kick to the brine for the threes.
02:54He's rebounding the ball pretty well.
02:55So somehow, these next couple days, show that you can score the ball better, be more aggressive, attack the paint, get to the free throw line,
03:02and then have the coaching staff say, you know what?
03:04Let's go ahead and shut him down.
03:05We've seen enough for the big picture.
03:07I mean, we can't talk about Dalton Connect and forget about what happened to him at the trade deadline, right?
03:12Thought he was going to Charlotte.
03:14He also spoke about the fact that that did affect him.
03:17Do you think that that's affecting his game in L.A.
03:20and that he kind of needs to move on in order to get his groove back?
03:23Oh, no question about it.
03:24You have to move on.
03:25When it first happened, yes, young fella, I give it to you.
03:27I don't know too many of us could handle that.
03:29Now you turn the page.
03:30You're still with the team.
03:31Now it's a new summer league to prove that you're worth of being part of the big picture.
03:35Because when you're playing with LeBron and Luke, you've got to make open shots
03:38because they have the ball in their hands most of the time.
03:41Defensively, can you guard your yard?
03:42That keeps coaching staff saying we can keep them on the court.
03:45But more importantly, stay aggressive, get to the free throw line,
03:47and now you're a part of the big picture.
03:49This week and actually on Saturday night, we got to see the fifth pick in the draft
03:52and the third pick in the draft go head-to-head.
03:55Ace Bailey, the fifth pick.
03:57Vijay Edgecombe, the third pick for the Philadelphia 76ers.
04:02You know, he had the highest vertical at the NBA Draft Combine.
04:06You see it here.
04:08That's ridiculous.
04:09The speed and the elevation.
04:11Isaiah Collier and Keev Aluma get into it underneath the basket.
04:17Oh.
04:18It's not often we see that in some of them.
04:20Well, they both push him.
04:21He pushed him back.
04:23His arm got caught in his shirt.
04:24Now he's trying to get his arm out.
04:26And he grabbed him back.
04:28Now we're just pushing.
04:29We're going to go to dinner tonight after the game.
04:30You sound like you have a future as a ringside play-by-play boxing expert.
04:36Utah by nine and a half.
04:38Bryce Sinzabaugh having himself a good season and a good summer league so far.
04:43Kyle Filipowski, second-round pick last year.
04:47Watch him following up the miss, cleaning it up.
04:50You know, one of those guys, Chris, second-year guys,
04:51has to go out there and have a great summer league.
04:53V.J. Edgecombe, balling out all over the place for the 76ers in his debut.
05:04So, V.J. missed the potential game-tying three.
05:08But look at the stats.
05:10Third pick in the draft, 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks,
05:13and a steal.
05:143-D.
05:14He jumped off the screen, jumped out of the gym, just electric.
05:18What you looking for when you draft the guy third overall?
05:20Well, I look for a bright future.
05:22I go back to draft night, being in Brooklyn,
05:23and just understanding this young man is living his dream,
05:26sharing the story of his family, you know,
05:28living off a generator for many years.
05:30And now his first couple games, he's just playing like what you saw in college,
05:34getting to your spot, rising up, shooting with confidence,
05:37attacking the paint, the athleticism and transition.
05:40Defensively, I think that's going to be the brightest spot
05:43because he's going to be able to step right in and guard his yard,
05:46defend one, two, three, the physicality.
05:48That's what the brightest spot for me for him.
05:49Yeah, and Ace Bailey, the fifth pick in the draft,
05:528.7 rebounds, three for 13 from the field, though.
05:56What did you deduce from his struggles shooting in his first game?
06:00Well, I think he's pressing a little bit.
06:01I think the excitement is there.
06:03You're part of the NBA now.
06:04Your dream has come true.
06:05So now just settle down a little bit.
06:07Listen to the coaching staff.
06:09Understand this is summer league,
06:10and you're working on the small things that may not show up in the statutes.
06:13So, right, he's not shooting the ball particularly well,
06:15but we know he's a walking bucket.
06:17Some of the shots he missed, yes, they look a little old school.
06:20I'm talking about those step backs.
06:21Slow down a little bit.
06:22Understand the system you're trying to run here in the summer league
06:24and play hard, rebound, run the floor hard,
06:27little things like that you can control.
06:29Everything else falls into place.
06:30Yeah, and there was a report that Will Hardy,
06:32head coach of the Utah Jazz, said,
06:35hey, the things I did like about Ace Bailey,
06:37that he had seven rebounds,
06:38that he had the block towards the end of the game,
06:40that he grabbed the rebound to seal the win.
06:42And all of the things that he needs to work on,
06:45he focused on in that debut.
06:47When you hear the head coach say that, what do you take away?
06:49Well, once again, Will, that's great leadership
06:50because you know this young man has gone through a lot,
06:52draft night, his age and all that stuff, even his history.
06:55So now you have a coach that understands what you're going through.
06:58Listen to your coach.
07:00Slow down a little bit.
07:01But the effort never lies on the screen.
07:03The shooting percentage will get better
07:04as you learn the system and learn the NBA better.
07:06Well, you get to see Ace Bailey, Walter Clayton Jr. for the Jazz.
07:10Town in a different country, as you will, for the first time.
07:14Does it take you down memory lane
07:16to when you got drafted, you went to Orlando for the first time?
07:18It does, Chris.
07:19Every year, watching these young men live their dreams
07:22and seeing the opportunity present itself,
07:24you're saying, man, this is real.
07:26So for me, growing up in the DMV area,
07:28I had Kings Dominion, and then my mom and grandma
07:30took me to Hershey Park.
07:32And not realizing that building right behind me
07:34is the place Will Chambers scored 100 points in.
07:37So knowing that you go to these amusement parks,
07:39you see these cities, you read about them,
07:41you're trying to learn the history,
07:42you're trying to learn the culture.
07:43I had no idea as a kid that Hershey Park
07:46was right down the street, and it was basketball history.
07:48So now to be here at NBA TV all these years
07:50and talk about it and understanding that
07:51the history of the game was only an hour and a half
07:54from our small town in Hagerstown, Maryland,
07:55which I'm going back in January 17th,
07:58where we did our Boys and Girls Club,
07:59it's just fun to see the kids of today
08:02live their dreams, go to Chicago,
08:04go to L.A., go to Toronto,
08:06you know, different places like that
08:07and learn new cultures.
08:08Had you been to Orlando before you were drafted there?
08:10I had never been there.
08:11My mom couldn't afford to take me down to Disney World,
08:13so that's why you went to all those places,
08:15like, you know, Kings and Ming was only an hour and a half away,
08:18Kennywood, I think maybe another hour and 15 minutes away.
08:21So then, when I get off the plane,
08:24may the Pat Williams rest in peace,
08:25you go get your meal, you go deal with the media,
08:28and then you go to Disney World, baby!
08:30I was like, the happiest place in the world.
08:32You drop some, next thing you know,
08:34they're cleaning up for you.
08:35Good day, how are you?
08:36It's like, wait a minute, this is Southern hospitality?
08:38I just come from Atlanta.
08:39So this is so much fun for me,
08:41watch these young men live their dreams
08:42and learn new cultures in new cities.
08:43It's just amazing to see you with hair back then,
08:45my friend.
08:46A little flat top, landed in the rock.
08:48All right, the NBA 2K.
08:50All right, the NBA 2K.
