00:00A desperate surge for more than 20 missing girls from a summer camp after deadly flash floods in central Texas.
00:07Torrential rains flooded the Guadalupe River near San Antonio.
00:11Camp Mystic is a sleepaway camp for girls along that river.
00:14State officials say without warning, the river rose 26 feet in 45 minutes.
00:21First responders rescued more than 200 people from the catastrophic flooding.
00:25They recovered at least 24 bodies yesterday.
00:28Jason Allen is in Kerr, Texas, where search and rescue operations are underway.
00:34Jason, good morning.
00:37Good morning, Michelle. Yes, they are underway.
00:39And this is still being called an active rescue mission this morning.
00:45There have been helicopter teams and boat teams going up the Guadalupe River.
00:48They're having to sort through work around these huge piles of debris.
00:53And they have even been scanning the treetops looking for people who may still be waiting to be rescued.
01:01Rescues and reunifications.
01:03More than 160 people were evacuated from the flood zone by helicopter.
01:07While some of these families have been reunited, others are desperately waiting this morning.
01:12We remain in a search and rescue posture right now.
01:16They will continue in the darkness of night.
01:20They will be taking place when the sun rises in the morning.
01:23They will be nonstop.
01:26Twelve inches of rain fell within an hour, turning Kerr County into a catastrophic flood zone.
01:32First responders launched dozens of rescues along the swollen Guadalupe River, flooding several children's summer camps.
01:38Out of the over 700, we have a number of about 23 not accounted for.
01:44This helicopter swooped in and rescued a young camper from the top of a tree.
01:49Photos from inside one of the camps showed children being evacuated.
01:53We will do everything humanly possible 24-7.
01:59Torrents of flood water ripped away homes and cars.
02:03We do not have a morning system.

02:07We had no reason to believe that this was going to be anything like what's happened here.

02:12This concrete pad was part of an RV park.
02:16And the owner told me they were lined up along the riverbank for the 4th of July holiday.
02:20But there was no warning for them to get out in time.
02:23And all of them washed down the river.
02:25It was raging water, not this calm.

02:30Lorena Guillen owns a restaurant right next to the RV park.
02:33She describes a terrifying scene as the river quickly began to flood.
02:37You could also see vehicles coming from up the river with the lights on.
02:43And you can hear somebody honking.
02:45And they were washing away.
02:47They kept going.
02:49Honking as they were washing down the river to try to get somebody's attention.
02:54Yeah, but it was impossible.
02:55This is part of a campground here along the river.
03:00It was full of RVs and people in cabins.
03:03They were all staying here for the 4th of July holiday weekend.
03:06And so we talked about how many girls are missing from that camp upriver.
03:09Dana, they don't know exactly how many other people are still missing this morning.
03:15Jason, absolutely devastating to hear those stories.
03:17And I think the entire country has its thoughts and prayers there,
03:20especially in hearing about those missing children right now.
