00:00In troubled times, God always raises up reformers.
00:06It was in 16th-century Italy, shaken by moral decadence and religious tensions, that a fiery man emerged, Antoine-Marie Zacharia.
00:20Born in Cremona in 1502, he lost his father very young.
00:24His mother, a pious and educated woman, lovingly raised him in the Christian faith.
00:33Gifted and sensitive, Antoine began studying medicine.
00:39But deep down, another vocation already inhabits him.
00:44To care for souls even more than bodies.
00:49Ordained a priest at the age of 26, he settled in Milan, a city then plagued by moral laxity and clericalism.
01:01Antoine-Marie, driven by an inner fire, does not just preach.
01:08He wants to transform the church from within.
01:11In a few years, they create a new order.
01:16The regular clerics of Saint Paul, called the Barnabites from the name of the Milanese church where they settled.
01:24Their mission is to return to the pure gospel, train exemplary priests and rekindle faith in hearts.
01:32Antoine-Marie Zacharia innovates.
01:36He encourages adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, spiritual retreats, and public readings from Saint Paul.
01:45His zeal is such that some find him too radical.
01:50But the love of Christ drives him forward, tirelessly.
01:55He writes
01:57“If you want to progress, start by consuming yourself.”
02:03And that's what he does.
02:05His body is exhausted in the service of God and the poor.
02:09He died young, at thirty-six, in a good one hundred and thirty-nine,
02:15but leaves behind an immense body of work.
02:17Today, his disciples, the Barnabites, the Angelic Sisters and the Laity of Saint Paul,
02:26continue their mission on several continents.
02:30Canonized in 1897,
02:33Saint Anthony Mary Zacharias is a model of interior reform,
02:39of Eucharistic fervor and active charity.
02:44May his example inspire us
02:47in these times which are in such need of renewal,
02:52of truth and inner fire.
