Esquire Developments consulting on 750 home scheme in Rainham

Residents fear Rainham could become a "concrete jungle".  Local Democracy Reporter Ollie Leader reports.

00:00A slice of rural Kent that could soon see a whole new neighbourhood with

00:06proposals underway for 750 new homes. The fields where I'm stood right now is

00:14where the developer Esquire wants to build all of this new housing and that's

00:20kind of why people aren't happy because these fields are used for farming for

00:26growing things like apples and some say that this will be the final nail in the

00:32coffin for the Raynham they once knew. I lived in Raynham 40 years, 41 years and

00:39I've just moved to Herne Bay because I do not like how Raynham is becoming. Too

00:45many houses, too many cars, too many going trying to go somewhere and you can't

00:50because it's good luck. No one wants them in their backyard but I think we've got

00:54plenty here we've got far too many. So every field they seem to be filling up

00:58with making it into a complete jungle you know. It would be good to build the

01:04amenities first and build the airs afterwards. The developers say the new

01:08developments would have green spaces, primary and secondary schools as well as

01:14healthcare and a care home with Esquire planning to host consultation events

01:19later this month. But while nothing has been submitted to Medway Council just yet

01:26fears for the future of Lower Raynham aren't going anywhere.
