00:27So, while a scorching heat dome takes over Europe, how is India not as hot as one would expect?

00:32While India is hot and always will be, a Harvard study bizarrely attributes a cooler-than-usual summer to pollution.

00:39The presence of aerosol particles in the atmosphere reflects sunlight.

00:43Extensive irrigation in India's northern plains, thanks to agriculture, also leads to higher humidity.

00:49The evaporation of this water absorbs heat, resulting in a cooling effect.

00:53Despite extreme and lethal heat waves at times, India's warming trend amounts to half the global average.

01:00And scientists still don't fully understand how India is a global warming hole.

01:09Air pollution is the leading hypothesis to explain the slow warming.

01:12So, while India badly needs to clear air quality, doing this might also accelerate temperatures.
