00:00If you want to become an illustrator, you've got to learn about perspective.
00:03So perspective is how artists show depth and space on a flat surface like this.
00:08The way we do it is by creating an illusion of three dimensions using lines, shapes, and colors.
00:12For example, if I wanted to draw a really quick sketch of a building, I would start with a basic shape like this.
00:17Then I'm going to add some lines to give the illusion of height.
00:20Notice how the lines are getting closer together as they approach the horizon line.
00:23This is a basic one-point perspective.
00:25Now let's add some color.
00:26I am gone now. Use a light source coming from above to cast shadows below and make the top of the building darker than the bottom.
00:33Now let's take it up a notch.
00:34We're going to add some trees in the foreground and background.
00:37And just like the building, the trees will also get smaller as they approach the horizon line.
00:41Now you've got some depth, but we can still add more.
00:44Try adding a little detail here and there.
00:45Use different line weights to create the illusion of overlapping trees.
00:49And don't forget to add some nice little finishing touches like these birds.
00:52There you go.
00:53You just created a one-point perspective with me.
