00:00Saint Thierry, one of the great hermits and abbot of northern France in the 6th century, is a figure of peace, humility and devotion.
00:14Born around the year 485 into a noble family in the Reims region, he chose very early on a life turned towards God, far from worldly honors.
00:26At a very young age, Thierry felt called to prayer and solitude.
00:31Against the wishes of his parents, who wanted him to have an honorable marriage and a life of lordship, he fled the world to live in poverty.
00:41He then met Saint Rémy, the famous bishop of Reims, the same one who baptized Clovis and placed himself under his spiritual direction.
00:52Rémy quickly recognized in Thierry a pure heart and a strong faith.
00:58He encourages him to follow his monastic vocation.
01:01Around the year 500, Thierry founded, with the support of Saint Rémy, a monastery in a remote location north of Reims, Mont d'Or.
01:10This place, still wild and covered in forest, quickly became a high place of prayer and silence.
01:21Thierry imposed on himself a rule of austere life, continuous prayer, frequent fasting, manual work and hospitality.
01:29His example attracts many disciples.
01:33The monastery prospers, not through wealth, but through holiness.
01:38Saint Thierry, although a hermit by nature, became a true father to his brothers.
01:45He teaches by example more than by words.
01:48He is credited with gifts of healing and his reputation extends beyond the borders of the diocese.
01:55He is consulted by bishops, abbots and even lay people in search of wisdom.
02:02His spiritual influence is profound, although he remains humble and discreet throughout his life.
02:09Saint Thierry died around the year 533.
02:13He was buried in his abbey, which henceforth bore his name, Saint Thierry.
02:19Very quickly, miracles were reported at his tomb.
02:23A local cult developed and persisted over the centuries.
02:28Even today, the town of Saint Thierry, near Reims, keeps the memory of this man of God alive.
02:36Although its abbey was destroyed during the Revolution, the place remains inhabited by prayer,
02:43notably by the monastic community that lives there today.
02:47Saint Thierry reminds us that true greatness does not come from titles or possessions,
02:54but humility, prayer and love of God.
02:59A model of silence and fidelity, he continues to inspire seekers of God, 16 centuries later.
