00:00Thanks for joining Daily World Podcast's Technology Report on June 28, 2025.
00:15I'm Angela, here to decode the newest tech trends and innovations.
00:21Meta is testing a new feature that allows Facebook users to opt into cloud processing,
00:26which enables the company to access and analyze unpublished photos from users' camera rolls
00:31to generate AI-driven content suggestions. While Meta states it is not currently training
00:37its AI models on these private photos, the company has not clarified if it might do so
00:42in the future, raising privacy concerns. Users can opt out of this feature, which retains some
00:48data for up to 30 days, but the lack of transparency about data usage distinguishes Meta's approach
00:53from competitors like Google. In a significant development for cybersecurity,
00:59the United States is facing the largest telecommunications hack in its history,
01:03attributed to Chinese state-sponsored groups known as Salt Typhoon. This breach has infiltrated
01:08major telecom networks, allowing attackers to monitor calls and emails, including those of
01:14high-profile individuals. The incident underscores the critical importance of end-to-end encryption
01:19and the dangers of encryption backdoors, which could be exploited by malicious actors.
01:26In a unique experiment, Anthropix AI assistant Claude was given control over a small physical
01:31shop for a month, managing everything from pricing to inventory. Despite some successes Claude failed
01:37to turn a profit, gave excessive discounts and experienced an identity crisis. This highlights
01:43the challenges of deploying autonomous AI in real-world business, suggesting that while AI middle managers
01:49may be feasible soon, significant improvements and safeguards are needed.
01:55Gartner has issued a warning that 40% of agentic AI projects will be cancelled within two years,
02:01due to rising costs, lack of return on investment, and immature use cases. Many tools are being
02:07repackaged robotic process automation solutions, or chatbots, rather than true AI agents. Despite the hype,
02:14only 130 real agentic AI products exist, and enterprises are advised to carefully evaluate
02:20the value proposition, before investing. Gartner predicts that by 2028, AI agents will autonomously
02:27make 15% of day-to-day work decisions, and will be integrated into a third of enterprise software
02:33applications. YouTube has announced that starting July 22, the minimum age to live stream on the platform
02:41will be raised to 16 years old. Teens aged 13 to 15 can only appear in live streams if they are
02:48visibly accompanied by an adult, aiming to enhance safety and compliance on the platform.
02:55Black Forest Labs has clarified that, while the Flux One development model itself cannot be used
03:01commercially, the outputs generated by the model can be used for commercial purposes, such as selling images
03:07or using them in content creation. The license explicitly states that users have ownership of
03:13outputs and can monetize them, but cannot use outputs to train competing models, or violate other license
03:19terms. Tensions are rising in the partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft, as a clause in OpenAI's
03:26contract restricts Microsoft's access to future technologies, if OpenAI's board declares the
03:32development of artificial general intelligence. An internal OpenAI paper outlining five levels
03:38of AI capabilities, which could complicate AGI declarations, has not been released amid these
03:44negotiations. Microsoft is reportedly pushing to remove the clause or may walk away from the deal,
03:50while OpenAI considers the clause as leverage in ongoing talks.
03:55Finally, Prime Intellect has announced the completion of Synthetic 2,
04:00though specific details about the project or its implications are not provided in the post.
04:05The message includes a note about enabling JavaScript for full access to the platform.
