Transcript
00:00In the fall of 1978, a small film crew gathered in Covington, Georgia, to shoot the first
00:08episode of a new television show called The Dukes of Hazzard.
00:12Crazy good or talking turkey coming right down my alley.
00:16When it came on the air on January 26, 1979, the television critic for the Los Angeles
00:22Times wrote, quote, this show will not last past the first commercial break, unquote.
00:28Y'all, that was 40 years ago.
00:31Man, was he ever wrong.
00:49There's Russia.
00:50Oh, big cold train, we say it.
00:51Keep your gown down and the pedal to the metal.
00:54I'm gone.
00:55I love hot shoes.
00:56One reason that the show has been carried forward so long so well is because of the
01:02audience, because of the fans.
01:04They recognize in this show a period of time when you did the right thing, when there were
01:10strong family values, and when there was a sense of everybody's okay.
01:16The producers were saying, we don't know what makes this show tick.
01:20It's huge.
01:21And if we touch it, we might mess it up.
01:24Who's your favorite character on the show?
01:26Oh, no.
01:27Daisy.
01:28Roscoe.
01:29Probably I had to think about it.
01:31Flash.
01:31I like the General Lee car.
01:33The car was the star.
01:35The General Lee has got to be the number one character on the show.
01:40It was the car that never got destroyed.
01:42It could jump several hundred feet through the air, land on its nose, and drive away.
01:47Not even a cracked windshield.
01:48The car was indestructible.
01:49It was a superhero.
01:56What do you like about that show?
01:59Everything.
02:00You know, the comedy, the action, just good country fun.
02:06You take this, and then you cut to this.
02:14Yeah!
02:14Yeah!
02:14Yeah!
02:19It's very hard to tell people about these events and these people and this family.
02:33You almost have to be there, and then you catch it.
02:37And then you just start smiling, and just get right in there with it, because you realize,
02:41wow, this is special.
02:43Now there's a new film that sets the record straight, and shows what has happened in those
02:4840 years, and what keeps on happening.
02:51Welcome to Hazard Nation.
