00:06I grew up as an only child, and it was pretty lonely, because my single mom was always busy.

00:12She'd mostly forget my birthdays, or any promises she made.

00:17Mom, you promised you'd take me to the beach for a birthday picnic!

00:20The sea and the beach will still be there next weekend, Lorna, but without my job, I won't be able to raise you.

00:26Mom worked as a chef at a big restaurant, and I enjoyed watching her cook whenever I tagged along with her to work.

00:32Mmm, that soup looks tasty.

00:34I need to use the bathroom. Don't touch anything.

00:38As soon as Mom left, I picked up a ladle and leaned over to scoop up some soup.

00:42Oh, it was so good.

00:44As I went in for another spoonful, suddenly, my removable braces fell into the pot.

11:05As I walked away, Mason grabbed my hand and I screamed.

11:09But just then, Brad pounced on him.

11:13While they rolled on the floor wrestling, I ran straight to the principal for help.

11:17The principal called the police, and Mason was arrested for trespassing on school property and attempted theft.

11:24Turned out, it wasn't the first car he and his gang had stolen.

11:27Brad, what happened to you?

11:29Lorna, you don't know what I had to live with.

11:32Mason's mom is so evil.

11:34If I didn't listen to Mason, then he would tell his mom, and I won't get to go to college.

11:38Did you talk to Dad?

11:40Did you tell him that Mason is making you steal cars?

11:43I tried, but he never believes me.

11:45I hugged him as he cried.

11:50I told mom everything that happened, and she was so mad at Dad.

11:54She insisted that Brad come and live with us, and he was really happy to.

11:58Soon after, my college application replies came back, and to my delight, I'd gotten in on a full scholarship.

12:07My scholarship applications never got accepted, but at least you get to go.

12:11I have enough money saved by now, and I'll pay for your studies, Brad.

12:15You don't have to worry about that ever again, because you are also my child.

12:20As we celebrated in the living room, Grandma suddenly appeared.

12:24Lorna, Brad, when did you get here?

12:26I'm so happy to see you.

12:28Grandma remembered us, even if it was for just a little while, and it was a moment to cherish.
