00:00God, I miss you so much!
00:03Oh, how you been?
00:05My man! Come here!
00:07Come!
00:09How you doing?
00:11Wow, that's a powerful handshake.
00:13You Harvard or MIT?
00:15Harvard, I bet.
00:16Uh, no, I dropped out.
00:19Haha, you were right, Vic.
00:21He is funny.
00:24Um, right.
00:26Bags at the front, thank you.
00:28So, are you doing everything to keep my daughter happy?
00:32Daddy.
00:33Just having a little fun, but honestly, Darius.
00:37Dad.
00:39Oh, right, Cash. Yes, of course.
00:41How much do I owe you?
00:42This is Darius.
00:44Uh, your boyfriend's...
00:47Darius.
00:48But you're...
00:49Darius. Darius White.
00:52But who are you?
00:53I'm just a driver, man.
00:55Uh...
00:56Sweetheart!
00:57You made it!
00:58Come in! Come in!
00:59Oh my God!
01:00White...
01:01White!
01:24You've got grease all over your fingernails.
01:26fingernails. Oh, sorry. Darius, let me take your jacket. It's a pleasure to meet you,
01:36Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel. Please call me Jenna. Jenna. And Mr. Gabriel. Dinner is going to
01:47be ready soon. I will be right back. So, Mr. Gabriel, Victoria's told me a lot about you.
01:57It's really impressive what you've accomplished. I hope to be as successful an entrepreneur as you
02:03one day. Not dressed and looking like that, you won't. Dad. What kind of a man presents himself
02:11looking like this? We left right after my shift. I didn't get a chance to get changed.
02:17So, where did you guys meet? We met at university. Oh, are you in Victoria's class?
02:26Uh, no. We met while I was working there. Well, you were a teacher. Actually, um, I was detailing
02:32a client's car. Oh, is that a business that you run? Right now, I'm just working for someone,
02:39but I do hope to own my own business one day. I send you to Harvard and you come back with
02:46a car detailer. Dad, stop. You don't even know him.
02:51Darius White. Yeah, that's his last name. It's a bit of an odd name for a...
02:56You know, there are many black Americans with the last name White. You know, you're being
02:59really close-minded. Just saying. One would think that, uh, with a name like White...
03:07Is that why you're being so hard on him? Don't be foolish. That's not what this is
03:12about. My concern is you're dating a car detailer who doesn't even own a car.
03:17Well, that's actually why I'm in town. My parents live out here and my dad's giving me his old
03:23SUV. It's got some mechanical issues, but I can fix it up.
03:28Hmm. With what? A buffer and some turl wax?
03:33He's moving home to study mechanics. Oh, so you're still relying on your parents.
03:40Dad, you know what? Stop. You know, he treats me really well and...
03:45I love him. What do you know about love? He doesn't even have a degree.
03:54I'm sorry, Darius, but my daughter cannot date a car detailer.
03:58Dad, you don't even know him. No. He's right. I get it.
04:06You shouldn't be dating someone like me. You can do better, Vic.
04:15I can't believe you would say something like that.
04:23You know, I never thought you'd behave this way.
04:30Where did they go? He's a car detailer, Jenna. Did you know?
04:36What did you say to him? I said the truth. What truth?
04:40That he's just not good enough for Victoria. She deserves more.
04:44Who are you to stand in judgment? I didn't break my back for this family
04:49so that we can have a better life only to have my daughter throw it all away
04:53on someone who isn't going anywhere. How could you do that to her?
04:58She'll be fine. She'll get over it. She's too young to understand right now,
05:01but someday when she does, she'll thank me. Oh, really?
05:05Well, and I guess you're lucky that I didn't follow my father's advice after I met you.
05:10Meaning?
05:12Do you remember where you came from? Because I do.
05:17I remember the gas station uniform and the smell of fuel on your hands
05:21and the determined look in your eye. You came from nothing.
05:26And people doubted you, but you believed in yourself.
05:30It's one of the things I admired most about you.
05:32You worked hard, pumping gas and changing oil and fixing flats.
05:38But you had bigger aspirations.
05:40Now look at you. You're a respected leader,
05:43running your own successful business with a suit to match.
05:48But somewhere along the way, you seem to have forgotten where you came from.
05:53You were just like Darius when you started, chasing a big dream from a small start.
05:57Don't forget that.
06:01You're right.
06:03I'm sorry.
06:06I just...
06:08I don't remember what it's like to struggle.
06:10I don't want our daughter to have to go through the same thing we did to fight as hard as we did.
06:16I want her to have an easier path, a better start in life.
06:19We struggled and we managed.
06:21They will too.
06:25I gotta fix this.
06:27I really messed up.
06:28There's the man I know.
06:31Looks like you could use a hand.
06:48Mr. Gabriel?
06:50What brings you here?
06:51Victoria gave me your address.
06:53You mind if I take a look?
06:54No.
06:55Really, you don't want to get dirty.
06:57Why not?
06:58Besides, we'll get it fixed faster if we work together.
07:00Mr. Gabriel, seriously, it's okay.
07:03My grandpa taught me a lot about fixing cars.
07:06Max, please, call me Max.
07:08I was just like you when I met Victoria's mom.
07:10I wanted to do everything by myself.
07:13That's what drove me to start my own business.
07:15Wow.
07:17I had no idea you started out like that.
07:19I guess we do have a lot in common.
07:22More than you realize.
07:24Listen, I'm really sorry about doubting you.
07:28It was wrong of me to question your worth like that.
07:32I completely forgot what it's like to be in your position.
07:35You think we can just wipe the slate clean?
07:38Oh, my hands are grasp-blind.
07:41It'll match my personality.
07:42Come on.
07:42Looks like your serpentine is worn out.
07:49Yeah, you've got a keen eye.
07:51Yeah, it looks like it's jumping off the pulleys and most probably overheating your engine.
07:56Yeah, I think the tensioner is going out.
08:00Wait, how did you know that?
08:04So tell me about this business you'd like to own someday.
08:07Of course.
08:12Well, so maybe you can come along.
